As always, let's start with a good news. My wife had a wonderful fillet and our son enjoyed a delicious prime rib. I had the swordfish which was off the menu and it was delightful. I brought my own bottle of wine because I wanted the 2012 Camus anniversary and while 801 has a nice wine selection, it was special occasion and we wanted to celebrate with something top-notch. Secondly, the service was wonderful. I told our server we wanted a nice casual pace for dinner and she allowed us to take our time and enjoy our conversation without feeling rushed. When she was with us, she was completely attentive without being pushy or overbearing. The price point for the meal was what I expected, and it was reasonable. The only downside was the noise. If you're not sitting out on the patio, you're going to feel like you're shouting the entire meal if you're there on a busy night, which we were. Would love to see them try and address their terrible acoustics with the sound company. It might cost them a few bucks, but I think in the long run, it would pay off if they could bring the decibels down a bit. read more

Came here during happy hour and definitely is worth it. Most of their dishes on the happy hour menu were great. I enjoyed the ahi tuna, potstickers, and sliders. Cooked really well and great flavors and every single bite that you had. For my main I ordered the prime filet mignon. Cooked to my temperature and enjoyed the truffle with potatoes. Didn't really care too much for the béarnaise sauce but tasted fine. Overall really great ambience. It can get a little bit loud and noisy. If you're looking for some find dining with great food this is your spot. read more

Went to 801 Local for the first time! Lots of parking and great ambiance- higher end restaurant like the other 801 restaurants. It's a little loud inside so if you want to have dinners with lots of people, it's hard to hear the others. The service was a little slow but likely due to short staffing more than anything else. Everyone treated us so nicely and so well! The food was delicious- duck cassoulet was amazing. I would go back again. First time here and came for a girls night dinner with group of friends. Reservation is recommended although they had some tables open, would t hurt to be safe. It was during the holiday season and looked like their bar area was booked for maybe company holiday party/private event. We were seated next to the bar in a booth and although the restaurant wasn't full yet, it was very very loud and we couldn't have any decent conversations without yelling. It was one of the loudest places I've been in a while for a restaurant I was expecting it to be little more quiet. They even had some music in the background that did not help but only added to the noise level. I ordered beef short rib which was cooked perfectly but was not seasoned at all. It was blend... and I was incredibly sad. Took the leftover home but and added little salt but didn't improve the flavor much. I don't know if it was just that batch but would not order again. Wow, this place was a treat! Leanne ordered a cocktail and the bartender actually cautioned her against her selection based on Leanne's tastes, which is very welcome. Instead, we each ordered an old-fashioned and they were really good (thanks Angie) We ordered the duck confit potstickers for an appetizer, and we were sold on the first bite. Delish. We aren't even hungry, but we are still taking an entree to go. Our neighbor recommended the mussels, and clearly the steaks are a hit at this establishment. Great service, solid food, and proper cocktails. And, the bathrooms are clean and full of amenities. Come try it out! My only criticism (hence hurried at the end of the review) is that it is very loud - but, it's a bar/restaurant with high ceilings. read more

We went for dinner on a Thursday at 6 pm. While the restaurant filled during our dining experience, we had a nice quieter booth in the back corner. This would be a great place for a post-work happy hour where you can sit on the patio in the fall or watch a game in inside in the winter. There aren't a ton of tables, so I can see this place getting crowded and loud quickly, but with a nice wine / beer / cocktail menu, it's definitely a top contender for a happy hour hotspot. The atmosphere is a little dimly lit, with a sailing theme (at least in our corner), cozy chairs, and not a bad seat for viewing a tv. I wouldn't come here for an intimate dinner as the sound carries and the room can get quite loud when there's a full house a few beers deep. That being said, do not count this place out for dinner. All three of us ordered the prime rib and all agreed it was one of the (if not THE) best prime ribs we've ever had. The chef cooked it to perfection and the accompanying truffle mash and broccolini were to die for. Our only suggestion would be to cut the prime rib a little thicker, but truly the flavor and temperature were spot on. You absolutely cannot forget to order their Parker House rolls with truffle butter. Frankly, I could have just eaten those and I would have given the restaurant five stars. That is truly the star of the menu. We could not decide between the three desserts, so we ordered all of them: the chocolate cake, the peach cobbler, and the lemon meringue. If any of those are on the dessert menu when you visit, you can't go wrong! The chocolate "cake" was similar to a flourless cake in terms of consistency, but it was super moist and decadent with a mousse topper. While the slice is small, it's very rich, so good for sharing. Our waiter was extremely attentive, knowledgeable of the menu, and helpful. Our meals were delivered in a timely manner and we did not have to sit around waiting for the bill at the end of the meal. Dinner party for a group of 7, we were kindly greeted and seated quickly. We ordered apps-duck pot stickers, shrimp cocktail, ahi tuna tacos and all were good. For entrees several filets were ordered and they were fabulous. I had the linguine shrimp pasta which had a light lemon flavor and was just what I imagined! Then came desserts-all we're fabulous!! We were seated promptly but our server was very slow and brought out the wrong wine. The rolls with truffle butter were delicious and my entree, butternut squash ravioli, was perfect. The 801 name is a hard one to uphold, but the Local location has done a great job! I had to compare their dirty martini's and I was not disappointed, they were delicious as always. It is always interesting to find potstickers on an American cuisine menu, but let me tell you... these were very fresh and authentic tasting pot stickers. I was very impressed. I decided to get the local burger, and swapped the two smash style Pattie's for the 8oz patty. It. Was. Delicious. If you go to a higher end eatery and they have a burger on the menu, chances are there's a good reason why! Out of this word!! My boyfriend opted for the prime rib which was packed with juicy flavor and accompanied by whipped truffle potatoes. It was a great experience! Lilian was the sweetest waitress. She had a smile from ear-to-ear throughout the night.

We had reservations and were seated exactly at the time we reserved. There were four people in our party. There was a birthday party next to us with 20 people and the restaurant was loud. Our table could have easily sat 6 but with 4 people we were far from one another. We had to shout to hear each other. This was the first time we had come to the restaurant and the waitress was nice and friendly. She helped us by offering her favorite pics. We ordered the onion soup which was enjoyed, a beet salad which was good and I ordered the duck pot stickers which were cold. I did send them back and they came back luke warm. It was not good at all. For dinner our friend ordered the Prime Rib cooked Medium. It came out so rare that it didn't seem cooked at all. His wife ordered the butternut squash ravioli and she seemed to enjoy it. My husband ordered the shrimp linguini and it had way too much garlic for his taste but it was hot and the shrimp were big and tasty. I ordered the roasted chicken which came cold with a gravy on it. I sent it back to the kitchen along with the truffle fries which were also cold. What the heck, all I wanted was to be served hot food. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The food came back luke warm. I was so unhappy with my choices. I would avoid the chicken with gravy. Yuck. It was tasteless and unpleasant. The truffle fries were hot the second time and needed salt. Easy remedy. I also ordered the Brussels sprouts which were over cooked and the maple glaze was watery which was not good. I won't go back but if you do, avoid the chicken and I hope your food comes out hot. I don't think I was asking too much from a table of four for dinner. read more

This is a major win for the 801 restaurant group. It's upscale but casual enough that you can go any day of the week. By far the best restaurant in Frontenac now. The interior reminds me of a yacht club with all the navy and bronze. We sat on the outdoor patio which was covered with a navy awning and gorgeous lights and detailed fans. Floors are herringbone wood inside and herringbone brick on the patio. The service was excellent and food was a stand out. Duck confit potstickers had many layers of flavors. Ahi tuna was very fresh and the short rib was super tender and goat cheese grits were generous. We will definitely be back. read more

My expectations were off, I guess. Having eaten at the other two 801s I really was looking forward to perfection. We started with the duck confit pot stickers which were delicious, but then things just went downhill. I had the beet salad and the ravioli. The salad was meh and the ravioli was laid in a huge pool of butter. I love brown butter, but there was just TOO much! My husband had the short rib on grits and was not impressed. The atmosphere was confusing. On one hand it seemed they were going for "fine dining" but then it switched to "bar". Weird experience. read more

How long has 801 Local been open? Because I have been missing out this entire time! We peeked at the menu before we went in and honestly were intimidated by the menu options and...pricing. We came for lunch over the weekend; sadly, it was not very busy at all which made us skeptical. But, to our surprise, the food was so good! We were happy when we were provided with a lunch/brunch menu (i think we were looking a dinner menu before going in. The lunch menu has more options to choose from like soup and sandwiches and of course brunch options). We had a mahi mahi sandwich, the local burger and French toast. I liked the bread our sandwiches were made with and the fries were hot and crispy. I was so full yet I could not stop taking bites from my daughter's French toast; it was not overly sweet and was very well made (the bread was moist and soft and paired well with caramelized banana - all of the toppings were delicious, so I hope that never changes). I can't wait to go back. Will likely come again for brunch and maybe try a cocktail next time! read more

To begin with, when we arrived we were greeted with a warm and enthusiastic welcome that told us we about to have an enjoyable dining experience. The wood decor and marble accents are nicely appointed. The wait staff is friendly and has excellent recommendations that the chef executed perfectly. The pork potstickers and my wife's beet salad was tasty and I especially liked the broth of the French onion soup. My wife really enjoyed the linguini with shrimp and I loved the huge bone in pork chop and Brussels sprouts. For dessert I had the dark chocolate cake and my wife loved her bread pudding. read more

801 Local is the newest and the most casual of the restaurants in St. Louis by the 801 group. (the others being 801 Fish and 801 Steak). 801 Local is centrally located in Frontenac, however, the building itself feels more like your walking into an office building than a restaurant. Once you get into the restaurant itself you are met with an interior much like that of a country club with lots of dark stained wood and plaid, very Ralph Lauren. I first dined here for dinner with a group of four, everyone had something different and no one was particularly blown away by their meal. I do have to say this was not too long after they opened and with all new restaurants, there are some growing pains. I visited again a few months later for lunch and had a much better experience with my meal. I had a Caesar salad and french dip sandwich with french fries. All were great and I would gladly go back and order it all again. I'll have to try again for dinner and see if it has improved, but for me this is more of a lunch spot and a nice alternative to Brio and Bricktop. read more

The cocktails aren't mixed well, they serve whiskey drinks (e.g. old fashioned) over a glass full of small ice cubes, and the steak isn't cooked properly for the requested temperature.. nor is it seasoned... and it cuts/tastes like a lower quality steak than Texas Roadhouse - but at 2x or more the price. Only gets 2 stars instead of 1 because the server is awesome. read more

Food is great and ambience is great. We have been coming here since it opened and always had a great experience. However, the last visit was not good. I ordered a Ceasar salad with salmon. I was not told that I would get charged for an entire salmon dinner which was $25 more than the salad. I expect to have an up charge but not $25 for a piece of salmon! I order this at most restaurants and it is never this much! My friend had the same experience adding shrimp to her salad. When we asked the server she apologized for not letting us know and took $15 off my friend's bill. She then told me that she could only take $ off of one bill and gave me a $15 gift card that I couldn't use towards my bill that night! I have worked in a lot of restaurants and am not aware there is ever a rule that you can only take $ off one check per night!! We went for happy hour. Quickly seated and warmly welcomed. Our server Marquis was great. We had the Manhattan and margarita special (it is bs to up charge $2 for a rocks glass vs martini glass). We had the beef sliders and the French dip sliders. Beef sliders had zero blue cheese and was a bit dry. The French dip sliders were great. We then had the tuna tacos and they were excellent.
