In short, lots of food for the price, but bland and greasy. I've passed by this place a few times and thought I'd stop in for once. I love Hawaiian food and have my favorite spots for legit grindz on four of the islands (5 if you count Las Vegas!), not to mention all the places sprinkled throughout the mainland. I'm not a snob but I appreciate fresh ingredients made with aloha. Unfortunately, da kine here had neither. The place is easy enough to find, just off Tustin in a plaza, right next to a Subway. The inside was dim and quiet. There was only one other couple in there, who walked in just before us. My +1 ordered the loco moco. She got overcooked patties, runny eggs and prepackaged gravy in a separate container. I ordered the combo with short rib, barbecue beef and chicken. It tasted like it was cooked in old grease and was bland despite the teriyaki sauce. My keiki (mini +1) got the teriyaki chicken with macaroni salad and didn't want to eat it. It didn't sit right with any of us. As some other reviewers mentioned, I don't think it was made fresh. I came hoping for 'ono but all I found was "oh no." The plates were full, but what's the point of choke portions if you just gonna choke on it? No thanks. I ordered for a pick up 3 Hawaiian fried rice. Very generous on the portions it is $20 a piece I'm spending. Just walking into the building was nice clean and smells great. Service was straight to the point. I do like the fact they have to cook order by order it definitely maintains its freshness. read more

Kind of a sad looking place, no music, no people, dim lighting, but the lunch special is pretty decent considering how expensive everything in the area is. Absolutely hit the spot! We ordered the chicken katsu and the barbecue chicken & beef combo, and everything was fantastic. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and paired so well with the sauce. The BBQ chicken was tender and full of that sweet, smoky flavor, and the beef was just as delicious - super flavorful and cooked just right. Portions were generous, the food came out hot and fresh, and it really felt like comfort food done right. Definitely coming back next time we're craving Hawaiian barbecue! read more

I toggled back and forth between 3 stars and 4 stars (I wish there was a half star) but I'm going with 3 because although there was only one thing that wasn't great, it's one pretty important thing... the meat (chicken) and veggies in my bowl was not hot. I wouldn't even say it was fully warm. There was definitely warm spots but there were also cool (almost cold) spots. When the food isn't hot it always makes me wonder how long it's been sitting out AND how long it's been sitting out at the incorrect temperature. I took a couple of bites (from the bottom which was closest to the rice, which was hot) and will say the taste was great, I'd definitely go back and give it another try. My 1st time having their food today. My friends catered with them for their child's party. Today's order: 2 trays of white rice, 1 tray of Hawaiian macaroni salad and a half tray of BBQ beef. Firstly, I appreciated the aloha spirit. The staff was warm and welcoming. Their service/order was prompt. The rice was nice and fluffy and tasty. Yes, you can get bad rice. The Mac salad had enough mayo and sweet balance. Lastly, the beef had good flavor but was tough. The sauce came on the side. That was a pain TBH. DO NOT EAT HERE, for several reasons. I've been eating here since 2012. Pre-pandemic, the place was still above average in food quality and kind of expensive. Service was OK. I supported this place during the pandemic when they raised their prices. I always get the "seafood mix" and have watched as the pricing has got absolutely out of control. 2017: $12.25 2020: $14.75 2022: $18.75 I swore to stop coming here after they raised it to $14.75 because spending $18 for lunch (after buying a drink) was absurd. Today, I tried it again and it was $23 for lunch ordering the seafood mix and an island tea. They also use the absolute lowest quality EVERYTHING. The utensils are microthin, thimsy plastic. The food comes in a very cheap styrofoam container. Even the napkins (which you have to ask for) are single sheet, so thin they're see-through. It's so absolutely clear the owner has reduces his costs as low as possible with everything. I also noticed the portions have shrunk since 2022. The place is trash, in every way. Avoid. read more

I've tried the place a half dozen times. Idiots making the food, idiots at the register, sadly no idiots to clean the place. Long wait, 20 to over 30 minutes, for so called fast food. There is ample parking and pretty easy access in and out. The food is decent. They have some good lunch specials. I can't believe i didn't check yelp and walked inside this place and ordered something. wow, shame on me. i thought this place has high ranks, so that's why i didn't check it first... i hope i don't get food poisoning. if i do, i'll come back and edit this review...lol... while i was eating, i was reading the reviews simultaneously. and every bite, i was worried i'd get sick. i ate here this afternoon after shopping in the plaza. there was like 1 of two people inside watching football. i walked here, since they had a lunch special for chicken katsu for 6.99 or something. the lunch special came with some shredded lettuces, more breading than chicken katsu, rice and hawaiian mac and cheese. Other hawaiian places i've been too, the chicken is thick and juicy... not this place, it was dry and had too much breading. the cashier was friendly and nice. they also have a fountain machine with some hawaiian specific drinks in the small refrigerator right next to it.
