I enjoyed my visit to this bakery because the pastries and drinks tasted great. There is ample amount of parking just on the plaza side of this lot and there were tables you could sit down on. I know some 85 locations have forgone their seating availability but this location has a few table and chairs out for people to enjoy their food and drink. I visited the location about an hour ahead of lunch and they had quite a few patrons there. At least 10 people ahead of me and most people had trays full of pastries. With that said, everything was still very well stocked. My slush didn't take too long to come out and it tasted great. If I'm ever craving some bread I'll be sure to come back here. read more

This review is only for their teas. Their "fresh" hot oolong tea comes automatically sweetened to an undrinkable level of sweetness. I think the flavor of the tea was pretty good under all the sugar but hard to be sure. I've never heard of a place that sweetens hot tea as default. They really should warn people and give them the option to leave it out. read more

This place is amazing, I can't believe we missed it for so long. They had a long queue when we got there, but everything is individually packed and the queue moved very quickly. I got more than I planned to, I couldn't help myself. I got Blueberry muffin, Chocolate bun, French Garlic Cheese Bread, Multigrain bread, Mango Creme Brûlée, and Deluxe Chocolate Mousse. Note that this 85oC Bakery Cafe Location IS OPEN for TAKEOUT ONLY! My family had a gift card and so we picked out a few items to try. I've been to 85oC a few times before, but I've found that their pastries (especially the sweet ones) all taste similar. I've not had their drinks before, but I know that they are known for their Salted Caramel Cream Coffee. My family got a couple of custard pastries and also a couple slices of their mousse cake in mango and coffee. Our total came out to about $15. The coffee mousse cake was very good. It had a strong taste of coffee and the cake is very light and airy. The mango mousse cake, unfortunately, was very disappointing and was bland with an artificial mango aftertaste. I would not get the mango again. All employees were wearing masks and they have a plastic barrier installed between customers and employees. They also limit 10 people inside at a time and have social distance markings on the ground. The process is still self-serve, but every pastry is pre-wrapped in plastic and you box the pastries yourself. Another important thing to note is that the line can get very long. We stopped by at around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, and there were only a couple people in front of us waiting to get in. However, after we got our pastries, the line was at least 10 people out the door. You can't be in a rush at this place! This place offers thoroughly average and relatively underwhelming pastries. There are much better bakeries, almost none of which are in Bellevue. Specifically for Taiwanese pastries, Kiki Bakery in North Seattle is much better. For more broadly Asian-style western baked goods (cakes, etc.), go to Regent Bakery a few blocks away. The service is not bad per se, it's inadequate. If you go through the front door and there are more than four people in line, be prepared to wait, and possibly for a long time. More often than not, they have only one cashier; even though there may be three or four other people behind the counter, none of them would be allowed to run the cash register. I went there today and the line was seven or eight deep. I thought I might wait it out, but two people in a row bought 10 or more pastries, and both wanted to pay cash, and there wasn't enough change--first in bills, then in coins--in the register. Someone behind me in line asked one of the coworkers behind the counter if she could help people at the register; she could not because there was only person authorized to be cashier. That person left a few moments later. I left shortly thereafter. It's not the first time I've left when there was a long line. Currently, 85° has a max capacity of 10 people, so be prepared to wait if you decide to go. The employees are generally pretty good about managing how many customers are in at a time, but because of the layout of the store/bakery, they do not manage social distancing well. I stopped by a little later on in the day and I'm not sure if this location was sold out of products or if they normally lack variety, but it felt like I kept seeing the same items on multiple shelves (guava cheese streusel, chocolate croissant, etc), however, it didn't seem like there was an organized system. Since they have 6-foot markers on the floor, it would make more sense for them to section out the shelves into stations and have some of each product within a station where customers can look through everything, rather than customers wandering around everywhere trying to see what they missed (and not social distancing). read more

Self serve made it super easy, tho the folks in front of me were definitely picking up and then putting back the things they didn't want (even though the small sign at the front asks patrons not to do this). So not sure this model is great for Covid19 times. I was most interested in trying the Portuguese egg tart, and also grabbed a cinnamon twist, taro bun and chocolate croissant. Everything was fine, tho not great. The cinnamon twist was the best of the pastries I purchased. No longer are the days where I have to trek to Seattle or Tukwila for these yummy Taiwanese pastries at 85 Degrees Bakery Café! 85 has come to Bellevue, and boy do my sweat pants thank thee. Located in a small shopping strip around the Bel-Red area, parking is easy to find when it's not packed! Because of the many popular businesses around, parking can get full. However, I usually have luck finding parking on the other side of 85 that faces the street rather than the other business strip. On weekends I've seen a line out the door and was like, no thanks. Because I've been here during a weekday where it's chill. Just like its other locations, all of the baked goods are stacked on the shelves and are individually-wrapped. By the entrance is a tray and tongs that you can use to get your pastries, especially if planning to buy more than a couple. In addition to their pastries, they have cakes and other chilled desserts in the display case that staff can help take out for you, as well as a long menu of different drinks that you order when you check out. If you don't find what a particular item on the shelves, ask staff if they have any in the kitchen, as they bake breads throughout the day. I've never had anything from 85 that I didn't like. When you're at the store, each piece is individually bagged so you just grab a box and fill up. They are almost too pretty, so it's easy to want to grab them all! The bins are fairly close together, so it's almost one-direction only. Be sure to shop on both sides as you look at the bins. There are commonly repeats amongst the bins, though. When they bring freshly made products out, they yell "Fresh Bread!". It's hard to resist getting some. The quality is best for the first 24 hours, maybe 48 hours max; the quality goes down daily! For this visit, I purchased only buns and pastries. I like their light airy breads. The signs have ingredients and calorie information. Of the ones I bought, my favorites are Matcha Red Bean Roll, Mango Custard Bun, and Potato Croquette; the latter reminds me of a meatless potato ball from Porto's of LA fame. read more

I came here in search of a good chocolate croissant, and decided against getting the one in the display case because it looked like it had been there all day. All the breads that I tried were soft and chewy, and not too sweet nor oily. Pictured left to right, top to bottom are the following baked goods: - Coffee Milk Butter ($2.25) - Chocolate Chip Bowl ($2.50) - Chocolate Cream Cheese ($2.90) - Potato Croquettes ($2.10) - Rose Cheese Bread ($2.70) - Red Bean Bread ($1.90) - Taro Swirl ($2.50) My favorite was the Coffee Milk Butter with its rich coffee aroma. I also liked the incorporation of corn and veggie bacon filling in the Potato Croquettes. The Rose Cheese Bread is a relatively new addition that has pieces of cranberries inside. Its cream cheese filling was thicker than the Chocolate Cream Cheese, which I found its chocolatey flavor to taste a bit odd. The remainder of the breads were standard yet decent. The Red Bean Bread had the most filling proportionally and was the oiliest. For the Taro Swirl I had expected a more crispy and flaky exterior. The powdered sugar on top of the Chocolate Chip Bowl was surprisingly crunchy. The interior is spacious with several tables. Its checkout line was short for a Saturday afternoon. Oh boy, I'm so glad they opened up a location on the eastside. I come here at least twice a week now vs once every few month down to their Tukwila location. I love the pastries at 85c. Everything, and I mean everything tastes amazing, I love it, my spouse loves it, my kids love it. Their drinks are pretty on point as well, although it seems like they have a smaller selection compared to other locations? Location is pretty convenient as well in the Bellevue Marketplace plaza, parking does get a bit crowded during rush hour but you can still usually find a spot, might need to circle a bit, or go to a spot further away. They keep a max occupancy of 10 ppl right now, so there could be some lines, but most of the time I go pretty early when their freshly baked bread come out, and there's not a big wait. Don't forget they also have an app, it's not the easiest to use, but you do earn points towards some free items. This visit was a bit surprising as I noticed they've significantly cut down the drinks menu. My college fav sea salt jasmine green tea was one of the drinks that didn't make it. I think they're still running on a subset of their breads since I didn't see my usual fav taro bread either. I haven't started eating all my bread but it's still the expected 85c flavors and taste that I expect. 85C is Taiwan's largest chain bakery. Locations are franchised and quality varies greatly across locations. The Bellevue location unfortunately is one of the lower performers. Goods taste the same as other locations. There was one grumpy overworked cashier manning the counter at 8 PM. The line was 10 deep even when shelves were 95% empty. Come early if you want anything fresh. Parking is always tough in the center on weekends, especially around meal times. I wish they would stop using plastic wrap around all their breads like in 2019. COVID is over. The planet doesn't need you to generate a million pieces of non recyclable trash per day. read more

It's very popular but waitress was downright rude: bought a $40+ birthday case. They included 5 candles. When I asked politely if I could get more candles, I got a very firm, even scary, "no". It's so offensive. If you want to be cheap, don't bother giving any candles. What can five candles do in most birthday celebrations? Been waiting for this cute bakery open up in Bellevue since 2020, lockdown maybe stopped it a bit. Went there to pick their variety of sweet puffs. I have loved how easy shopping at this place is. There's a box kept at the entrance and you can choose what you ll be needing and go up to the cash counter. I love the sweet pastries- I have picked the red bean, coconut cake, matcha cupcake, Mango delight (this was hands down the best one), chocolate mousse with Fererro Roach, marshmallow sugar puff, coconut and almond puff and coconut sweet tart (these were yum). Parking is next to impossible even with their dedicated spots. Also it's one way! Two ways! Bad drivers! Grandmas backing out. It's a hot mess and a half. To brace yourself of all that and then wait in line for a good half hour is just a little too much effort for taro bread and cream puffs. Huge empty space inside too. They don't have all the goodies but from what I found, it was fine. Same delicious treats! Just not very convenient spot. But it is in Bellevue so makes it easier than most location! This 85 spot is my new go to location despite being small...really small... compared to their Southcenter location. Most of their space seems dedicated to sit down (obviously not possible during these times), so the area with the bakery items is narrow and makes it tough to distance yourself. Their selection is more limited because of the space and I've noticed they don't have their usual full variety. Otherwise of course this place is known for their Asian inspired sweet and savory bakery breads, buns and pastries. During peak times expect a wait out the door due to COVID distancing. It would be a smart idea to post someone at the door to control volume. I can't tell how many times I've watched people try to enter and only to get yelled at to wait outside resulting in giant confusion. read more

The pastries were stale and lacked the freshness that I've come to expect from this chain. They were also missing some of my favorite items like the pork sung bun. It may have been because we visited towards the end of the day, but I still would have expected better quality. Staff was great and the place was clean as you'd expect. This bakery is one of my favorites. The egg custard tarts and green tea are my go to orders. Weekend foot and parking traffic is hectic! So much so that they run out of almost everything and they stop making drinks due to short staff. The cakes are all so light and delicious. The tiramisu with a slightly bitter but sweet mousse cushioned between the sponge like cakes are so addicting you cannot stop eating. The coffees and milk teas are a definite must try and a compliment to the desserts. Egg custard with the flakey crust is a staple must buy when visiting this bakery. I didn't hop on the bandwagon when they first opened down in Tukwila but recently I had to wait for some takeout at a restaurant near by and had time to kill so I decided to hop into this line. I'm so glad I did. Only 10 people are allowed in at a time right now to properly distance with COVID but it went quickly. They have such a great selection of pastries and desserts. I got 7 different things to eat for a few days and everything I got was delicious! I especially liked the breakfast ones with the little Hot Dog and the one with bacon. I think the pricing is average for what it is and worth what you pay.
