We came on a Wednesday and it was packed so we made reservations just in case. We ordered gor cocktail their signature Matcha Mezcal Sour. It was out of this world so light and refreshing. For food we ordered the Mushroom Gyoza, a few sashimis, Tiger Roll and 888 Roll and a Blue Crab Handroll. Everything was made so delicately and exquisite. Each bite melted in your mouth. Only high quality ingredients were used. Service was excellent but you have to be prepared to wait a bit for each dish. We came here on a Sunday night after making reservations the day of. There is 4 hour complementary valet parking at the JW Marriott. The entrance is kind of hidden & is not actually in the hotel. Walk to the left of the hotel & the restaurant entrance is located right on the corner of Clark & 8th Ave with a subtle red light above the door. We were checked in by the most friendly host & offered a coat check at the door. We arrived early for our 5:30 reservation but seated immediately. The ambiance is incredible. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the design of the space. Perfect date night vibes with a DJ playing in the background. Our waitress, Leah, was perfect the whole night. She was friendly, explained the menu, gave suggestions, & checked in on us all night. My only critique is the food was sort of a hit or miss. We ordered the okonomiyaki, tuna tartare, donabe fried rice, the 888 roll, & the Mille crepe cake. Okonomiyaki was on the smaller side & was slightly too underdone & mushy for my preference. The pork belly bits were great, though! The tuna tartare was our least favorite. We felt the flavors of salmon roe didn't really complement the tuna tartare very well, & the crispy rice that came with it was tooth-chipping crispy. It gave a more cheap poke bowl vibe than a casual-upscale tuna tartare dish. The fried rice was solid, but for $36, we expected there to be a little more than 4-5 small bites of chicken. The 888 roll was also good, but very average. Would love to see more traditional vs westernized roll options in the future, but also understand given the Nashville demographic. Absolutely incredible and sophisticated. The concept of this spot is unmatched and I overheard the bartender talking about how he wasn't sure if Nashville was ready for this type of place. Turns out it was! The entrance was hidden on the corner with no signs pointing in so we had trouble finding it. A dj is spinning vinyl records every night with an array of different music. The menu options are elevated and complex but also simple. They brought out a complimentary serving of seaweed crackers brushed with umami dust- they were so good we asked for seconds. Food * Cucumber Sunomono - Light, clean, and refreshing. One of the few highlights. * Kushiyaki - Solid. Our group agreed it was the best dish of the night. * Okonomiyaki - A miss. The griddle cake had a strange texture, the cabbage seemed borderline spoiled, and the pork lacked flavor. * Chicken Karaage - The presentation was not what we expected. The miso ranch was overwhelmingly strong and threw the dish off balance. * Yellowtail Jalapeño - Drenched in a thick sauce. The fish wasn't delicate and didn't shine. Oddly, the best part was the salmon roe. * Donabe Fried Rice - Decent but overpriced at $36. You could get a more satisfying version from a neighborhood spot for half the cost. Advance notice of a full-night themed music set would have been appreciated when confirming the reservation. Service Our server was friendly and upbeat, but the pacing was off. Empty glasses sat unnoticed, and we would've happily ordered another round if given the chance. At the end of the meal, we asked for a box to take home the nigiri (mostly untouched due to quality - to cook for the dog rather than throw it away - poor Tuna did die after all), and she disappeared for an uncomfortably long time. When she finally returned from the hotel next door with boxes, we felt terrible -- she clearly had no backup. The staff deserves more support and resources. 888 has an amazing aesthetic and a cool concept, but the food and execution don't justify the price point. This was not worthy of the $800 price tag. As locals, this felt like another Instagram-driven spot designed to attract tourists -- not retain regulars. The atmosphere is stylish, but no amount of mood lighting or cool records can make up for poor food quality and lackluster execution. We won't be returning. The food however if you're looking for Japanese food, you could do better elsewhere for the price. I would rate it 2 It's an interesting twist of sushi rolls and other dishes but know that it's a fusion/interpreted version of sushi. The friend chicken has too much breading and on the salty side. Not a problem if your generally palate is more southern, but for out of towners, this is more a TN style friend chicken than Japanese karaage. For the sushi interpretation, it was a cucumber wrap which was creative and thin. Due to the lack of flavoring in the crab, it was definitely a contrast from the salty fried chicken! After getting drinks elsewhere we walked over to 888 (or should it be eight eight eight like it is on the menu - who knows since the exterior doesn't have a sign!). An elegant house party vibe with the best food and sushi ! I ordered the premium Miyabi which was enough food for 2-3 people. I couldn't eat the last three courses due to being so full. If I could go again ( I live in California) I would have sushi and maybe the asparagus. Or share the miyabi. The music was varied and perfect. My sever was lovely and attentive. I had been trying to go to 888 since it opened and was very happy to have finally found the time (and an open reservation!) to do so this week. I had read a lot of reviews online before going, so I thought I knew what to expect, but in some ways I very surprised! The restaurant is on a quiet corner of the JW hotel, and honestly without the customer service text (which I loved) that I got the day before, I probably would have been wandering around the JW searching for the entrance. Valet parking at the hotel was free for the first 4 hours, which made my visit very easy. The restaurant itself was insanely dark - sorry about the lower quality photos but I couldn't be that girl with the big flash on during dinner!! I thought the menu was going to be mostly sushi, so I was surprised to see that it wasn't, and that most of their top recommended items were not fish! Our server was cheery and cute, but she was also a big forgetful. She didn't write down our order and had to check back 2x as to what we wanted. She also didn't stop by often enough and I had to flag someone else down just to get more water. My friend and I had the two non-alcoholic mocktails and both were fantastic. We got the asparagus tempura and it was my favorite dish of the night. The pork belly appetizer was weird - the bottom layer (not sure if it was rice?) was very mushy and almost didn't taste cooked. I expected it to be a fried sticky rice or have some kind of crunchier texture. The yellowtail jalapeños was good, but my friend really didn't like the sauce that it was drenched in. The nigiri was good, but as to be expected, expensive. We got the molten chocolate dessert and it was good and very rich. The dj area and vinyl was really cool - the dj was playing good music which helped with the vibe. All and all I'm glad I went, but I don't think I'll be returning back to dine again. read more

Once again I am absolutely BLOWN away from the exceptional staff service. Each and every time I have gathered up friends and family to join me on another experience to this establishment it is always 12/10. My favorite, all time favorite, place to go in Nashville. From the moment you walk in, to the amazing DJ Chip who knows EXACTLY what he is doing, to the wonderful bar staff curating the best drinks I am in love. Thank you for making a special place in town that transports you somewhere new! It's my go to staycation spot. Each and every person I have brought with me has been amazed! They share the love with me and can't get enough. Best dining experience in town, along with my new favorite New Years spot! (I had the honor of celebrating New Years with 888 and once again phenomenal) I am in love and morning can stop me!
