A fellow hiker recommended 98 Center to my husband and I, and I'm so glad they did because the food was amazing. This restaurant caters equally to meat eaters and vegan/vegetarian guests. I would venture to say that the Vegan Banh mi Sandwich was the best sandwich i have ever had!!! My husband also ate a banh mi sandwich but his was with steak. He also loved it. There were many options on the menu that looked delicious. Second time here and not impressed. Service was great but the food was not that great. Broth was very blah. The pork Pho was very boring. My wife's was as well which was chicken, very few ingredients in the pho. Something in my wife's pho made her severely sick when we got back home that night. Not sure it was really chicken either. It was some strange meat substance. Anyway, felt the Pho was missing a lot and just not very good the second time around. Not really impressed anymore especially after paying $13+ per Pho and an overall bill of $64.00 with two glasses of wine. Sorry but we will have to find some other place in the future. After my first experience at 98 Center, I had to go back for more. I was in Moab for a big BASE jumping event and after a full day of jumping off cliffs, I was so hungry--to 98 Center we went! This quaint little restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and lovely staff as well. Even the water they brought us had character with it's candy cane straw! The last time I was here, I made the mistake of ordering a small pho and a big salad. I mean, it wasn't really a mistake except that it was way too much food. This time, I wanted to try the large order of Vegan Pho and no salad. Loaded with shiitake mushrooms, lemongrass tofu, housemade roasted vegetable broth, and rice noodles and topped with green onions, bean sprouts, basil, serranos, and lime, this pho has so much good, rich, umami flavor. It was really good. My friend ordered the Bahn Mi Tofu Salad with lemongrass braised tofu, cilantro, pickled daikon and carrot, and serranos in a housemade vinaigrette. He loved it. Wow. Are you kidding me Moab, Utah? You are not New York City, yet you charge $17 for a salad and $8 to add a protein. That's $25 for a lunch salad. Add a teeny glass of wine for $10 (it's teeny, tiny because of Utah liquor laws, and you get two choices of wines to boot.) All of a sudden my lunch salad with a teeny glass of wine is almost $50 when you add the 20% tip! My husband and I wanted to have a salad for lunch and a glass of wine and it was literally $100 with tip! Really Moab! The salad was good but not worth the price. And the salad bowls are so awkward. They are slanted and tip easily. No wonder almost no one was in the restaurant at lunch time at peak season. Avoid 98 Center in Moab, unless you're a millionaire. We enjoyed the food... but were overcharged and not happy with the bill. Apparently there is a 15% charge on to-go orders... and they do not let you know at time of payment. They will not get our repeat business and they will be battling this charge with most to-go orders I'm sure. It is more expensive to take the food away than it is to stay in and take up space at a table. As a past food establishment owner this makes zero sense. I consulted Yelp for dinner options upon arriving in Moab, and I have to say Yelpers have got it wrong. I was on a girls' trip, and one of us is vegetarian. We all like pho, so this seemed like a good option. We had been driving for ten hours and were really hungry. We shared the bahn mi nachos, and those were amazing. Even though three of us are meat eaters, we got the tofu and we all enjoyed them. From there, the visit went downhill. It was busy when we came in, but several tables soon cleared out after we sat down. I guess the server needed some help catching up so the hostess took our order. She shouldn't have. I ordered a beer, which I had to reorder because it was forgotten. When our food was delivered, the pho seemed to have too many noodles and not enough broth. I had ordered a bahn mi, which should've had steak and pork. They brought out a tofu sandwich. Normally I'm not picky, but I'd already eaten my share of tofu and wanted what I ordered, so I sent it back. The hostess commented that was her fault and our server seemed really annoyed. Ravenous, I watched my friends eat until they finally brought my bahn mi, which had pork only and no steak. My sandwich was just okay. We should've each gotten our own nachos instead. Our tab was well over $80, and I was the only person who got a drink. This place is overpriced given the portion size. Also, they really did nothing about the messed-up order. I hate writing bad reviews but we had a terrible experience here. We came on a busy Friday night and got seated after ~30min wait. It seemed like a popular spot so we were excited to try it. We ordered the pork belly buns, a pork banh mi salad, 1 veggie pho, and 2 beef phos. The buns came our fairly quick and was a pretty nice mix of pork belly and kimchi. The banh mi salad seemed fresh and was generously portioned. The pho was the main let-down and the reason for the poor review. I'm not sure if that night was a fluke but it took OVER 45 MINUTES to get our 3 bowls of pho. If we're paying 14 bucks a bowl and waiting that long, we expect to be blown away. It tasted like someone mixed instant pho with water and microwaved it. So disappointed! Anyone who's had real Vietnamese pho will agree that this is subpar. My parents hated it. A good bowl of Pho is perfect after a hard day of hiking and we thought we had hit jackpot when we found this place. It had great reviews on Yelp and they had plenty of seating, seems like a no brainier right? First off: the food. The nachos were a mess of cilantro and carrots with occasional meat thrown in. I've honestly never had as much cilantro in a dish as I had in this one. Does not work. The Pho: holy crap the broth is the blandest thing I have ever tasted. I got the chicken and my friend got the beef and both of us were amazed with how not flavorful it was. I don't know how you can mess up pho broth, maybe they make it fresh daily instead of letting it stew? I don't know, either way it was terrible. Second: the service. I can't believe how slow everything was here. Appetizers came out fairly quickly but then we were stranded for an hour waiting for pho. An hour! At most restaurants, pho arrives 5 minutes after you order it...but not here. The hangry got worse and worse as time went on. The place wasn't even busy! I thought long and hard before deciding to post this review. I know how hard it is to run a restaurant and ill certainly give most places the benefit of the doubt. Excellent food with something for everyone. I had the salad with chicken and it was outstanding. Everything was very fresh of high quality. My wife had the veggie sandwich, which was unique and delicious. We can highly recommend this place. They have good cocktails and wine. We learned early on in our road trip that many restaurants in Utah do not offer wine, so if an adult beverage with your meal is important, always check the menu before being seated. The service here was friendly and quick. Ambience is good, thankfully there is mellow music and not the usual cruddy rock and roll. Prices are a little high, but so what? I was pretty excited to try the Vegan pho, but the soup was not very flavorful and consisted of basically just rice noodles and a tiny bit of tofu. The tofu was also very bland- it's supposed to be "lemongrass tofu" but they didn't really do much with it. I wish they had put more effort into this dish. We were so happy to discover 98 Center on a recent trip to Moab. This place just gets it and would fit in in any big city, the fact that they are this amazing off the beaten path is just that much more impressive. We ate here for lunch, dinner and brunch over three days and enjoyed every meal. The space has great atmosphere and super friendly service. We waited one night for a table but totally worth it. A clear warm night in Moab Utah that will never be forgotten is this one for me. This place makes every other place in Moab (just from this alone) look ridiculously amateur in every way. You feel at home, your body and mind are at total peace and you are relaxed from the moment you set foot in the place. Never have I raved so much about the atmosphere of a place before but this really did it for me tonight. But I only realized how this played a role after I had the best meal I have had all week. I have had really, and let me emphasize really good Pho, from very highly ranked restaurants in various parts of the country. This Pho is my favorite. The beef Pho that I had was mind blowing good. The beef was absolutely perfect, the delicately tender, moist slices of beef were made by artisans that crafted it into nothing short of a mouth watering delicacy. The noodles are imported made by some older Chinese man who must have invented them or something because I have never had noodles this good before, absolute master piece. (we did ask where the noodles came from and yes what I said is true) The broth, in this melodious harmony of flavor is what makes it all come together. It is unreal how perfectly seasoned and sensual it is on the tastebuds. I am seriously disappointed I did not have a bigger stomach and a bigger bowl. We ordered the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie with that ice cream (I am sad I cannot remember what it is called and its not on the menu!!!!!) This was a very sensual moment in my life eating this work of art. Artfully hand made by the best ingredients this cookie redefined cookies. I don't think I could be happy eating other cookies any more. Warm, with a delectable slight crunch of bits of peanut and a gooey sweet melted chocolate. Ladies and Gents forget what you think you know about deserts. If that was the only reason I went there it would have been more than worth it. Needed a bowl of pho really badly after hiking in super hot Moab and wound up here - there was no indication there was a patio for outdoor seating and I had to call to verify (we don't have space to eat in our hotel rooms!) and we got the beef and pork pho as well as a side salad. The broth was great but the portions too small - the containers are not optimal for eating out of! For $15 a bowl I'd expect a little more.
