I've anticipated 99 Ranch's opening in Austin for a long time! I would eat here twice a week if I could! The ready made food is easy and cheap. They stuff your box! My favorite thing to get is the fried fish entree and the pork congee (rice porridge) with duck egg. The dim sum is decent, and the only fast food style dim sum you can get in Austin (right now). This is like an Asian Market wonderland! Every time I go I am amazed at the amazing options! The meat is better priced than other markets and is good quality. I love finally having a place that sells sliced beef for bulgolgi. As a fanatic of anything beverage-related, the fruit vinegars and citron teas are a revelation. Plus, they have plenty of ready-to-drink coffees and teas in addition to Yakult, a pretty popular probiotic dairy drink. The bakery is awesome. I have tried a variety of the baked goods and everything is delicious. If you are looking for Asian beauty products, they have a small selection. I used to shop at Ranch 99 in California and it was great. The one in Austin,? Not so great. : 1. The fruit and veggies were definitely not fresh, they looked very sad and old. 2. The fresh tofu I got , was sour and not edible the next day. Had to throw away. Again, not fresh. 3. Their fridge is all fogged up and you can't see what is in it. Seems like the moisture level wasn't set right. I tried twice in different day, and now discouraged to go again, because of the selection and quality of the produce, especially there are many other stores that offers better and more. Shoppers Alert - There's always an excuse that 99 Ranch will have for charging for bags. I'm convinced of that. As you know, COVID-19 has changed everything about everything. So this place will charge you for bags but Because of the Coronavirus, they Do Not want you to use your own bags. So, if shop at 99 Ranch, you have no choice but to use their bags. That's not so bad. Bad is that they are charging for the bags that they insist that you to use. I was so taken by surprise. Walmart doesn't charge, CVS doesn't charge for bags, Whole Foods doesn't charge for bags, in other words, other business do not charge for bags, and yet others do allow you to use your own bags, even during this coronavirus. read more

It is a counterbalance for folks who don't live in Cedar Park and rather not make the long drive to Hmart. Prior to Ranch 99, this retail strip languished and faded into obscurity. Ranch 99 breathed life into this plaza and many businesses follow suit. This Ranch 99 is the company's conservative and cautious entry into Austin. It's not a full scale Ranch 99 analogous to a regular Target instead of a Super Target. Hmart, on the other hand, went all out with a big food court and fancy interior design. Ranch 99 doesn't have all the fanfare of Hmart. Its food court table is mismatched, some are cheap foldable plastic tables. The food vendor selection here is slim compared to Hmart but the prices are affordable and good for lunch. One thing that irks me is the parking lot, the width is narrow and the marking at certain spots is confusing. This is an easy fix and would make life easier for Ranch 99 cus. I have been coming to store for a while. I like their bread and BBQ. I also think that their seafood price is pretty good. I had one bad experiences there at the seafood section. It was just few days ago. I was at the seafood section and got 2 dungeness crabs. They were on sales for 11.99/lb (it was 14.99 according to the tag on the tank). The hispanic guy grabbed 2 and I was waiting for it to be steamed. I got my crabs and saw the sticker on my box said $15.99/lb. I talked to hispanic guy and told him that the crab on the tank stated as $11.99/lb. He went to the fish tank and looked at every single words on that tag. I guess he wanted to think that the offer has expired? At the same time, one Chinese guy showed up and this hispanic guy asked him to fix the price sticker for me. This Chinese guy tried to argue with me said that my crab was bigger so it is $15.99, not for the special price. I was a little mad, I did not see $15.99 anywhere, there was only one price for the crab, plus that hispanic guy took the crab from the same tank that have that $11.99 tag on, I don't even know why should I have to prove that I was right, if that wasn't 99, I thought that was a scam?!?! This Chinese guy did fix the price, put my box down with his heavy hand, and took off. Be honest, that kind of behavior wasn't expectable. read more

Awesome place to shop!!! Have all you need for Asian flavors from the cuts of meat to live swimming seafood just like they should be. They even have like all 99 Ranch market the fish cleaning service and will even fry your fresh fish if you like it. The grocery store itself is ok. But the checkout lines are constantly 10+ people deep. I've gone on a weekend when they only have 3 lanes open and the lines stretch all the way to the back of the store. Especially annoying when you are only purchasing a couple items as there are no express lanes. To be honest, this is the cleanest Asian Supermarket that I ever been to. I think obe of the reason is because this place is fairly new. I hope they will be able to keep it this way. Their bakery is tempting. I went to 85C bakery and bought 2 boxes of bread and I bought another box here since they look so delicious. It was worth the drive from San Antonio just to visit this area. I don't know who I spoke to in the seafood department but I called to ask if they carried vegan shrimp (btw MANY authentic Asian grocers do) and the man said the rudest WHAT?! in my ear. Wanted to get a few visits in before I wrote this review. I got to say, as an Asian grocery store/market, this one is hard to beat quality and price wise. Decent sized aisles, feels clean, different variety of different Asian groceries available. You can practically anything you're looking for here if you're looking to make you favorite Asian dish. The food court is great. They'll fill up your box packed with food every time. I will say that it does get frustrating sometimes when the servers there don't understand what you're saying so there has been quite a few mix-ups with orders. It does get hectic during peak hours. They have a ticket order system so don't expect a neat line and prepared to be a little flustered when ordering. The food itself is much better than the price suggests. My favorite is the salt and pepper fish fillet. Crispy and well seasoned. The offer Dim Sum as well. You've got your traditional Shu Mai and pork buns and chicken feet and many more. It's okay but it is probably the only Dim Sum you're going to find in that area. I can imagine myself coming here many more times for the relatively cheap food and for groceries I can't find in normal markets. read more

In fact, if you are in this section of town you should just take the time to drive up Laman and visit Chinatown.... it is much better. I came on a random week day around lunch time. There's a very small food court and it was really busy. I think I waited around 35 minutes to get my number called to pick some dim sum and there were limited options as well very limited seating. They have one standing table top that fits maybe 3-4 diners and some group dining tables but may just one table for solo diners and there were a lot of solo diners around this time. I don't think it will get any less busy, perhaps the store can have more seating outdoors in the future? Or more standing table tops or something. The duck was great and I picked up some already prepared steamed buns next to the food court area and everything was reasonably priced. The bakery is also really busy, but they are able to always churn out baked goods pretty quickly. I will say I was impressed with the selection of meats and fresh live seafood. The store was clean and there were some cashiers that were still training, but everyone was very nice. It's great to have this as another good asian grocery store here in Austin! read more

The best part is that it is less than five minutes from where I live. It's new, it's clean, and has almost everything I need for my cooking. Some things are a little pricey more than MT, but it beats having to drive all the way to North Lamar. Also the produce section is much better quality than MT. For those of you are afraid of MT because of the smell, atmosphere...etc. (you know who you are), this is the place for you. It's the Whole Foods of Asian markets, and it's up there with H-Mart. The bakery has a good selection. It changes every time I go. The duck is pretty good and it comes with a lot of white rice if you get the meal. Don't get the cafeteria style Chinese food. It's really bad. I wasn't expecting much to begin with, and it was much worse. You'd be happier with panda express, and still finish with a weird feeling in your stomach. Noodles were bland, orange chicken was bland, and the spicy chicken wasn't spicy at all. It tasted like what I imagine household cleaner to taste like... My favorite supermarket and one of my favorite places to eat a grab and go hot meal but their bakery counter is infuriatingly slow... Come to the bakery if you have lots of free time and patience! It's not the staff's fault. They just need to open at least two counters and not wrap each pastry at checkout. read more

I'm so happy that 99 Ranch opened because I used to drive 3 hours to Houston location to get my asian groceries and good bread from the bakery. Although smaller than the Houston store but this location still has all the essential asian groceries. all the produce, meat, and seafood are fresh and good prices!!! This market looks new and clean, new refrigerators, good lighting. One problem is that there is always a very long line at the bakery area. On weekends, I have to wait 15-25 mins in line, On weekdays, I still have to wait 10-15 mins in line. Each time I shopped at 99 Ranch Market's sales item, 75% of the time I was scammed by their bait and switch tactic. For example, I purchased Leek Steam Bun that was on sales at $2.25 (instead of $2.99 original price) item #8087619 (promo ends 1/28/21).. upon checked out.. I was charged $2.99 original price. Basically, they marked their item down but "forget" to update their computer pricing?!? This happens 75% of the time at Austin 99 Ranch Market. I hope this is not a company's wide policy and only some lazy employee or local manager issue. I have pretty good experiences when I come through. I like the bakery and restaurant that are built into a mini food court within the supermarket. It makes the entire space feel more lively. The store itself had a decent selection of goods. The price is okay. I usually only grab a few things and don't do the majority of my shopping here. Staff is usually pretty friendly and helpful. Original post: This place sells frozen chicken dated back to 2015! Can you believe that? Those chicken lived in the refrigerator much much longer than they actually lived. Be careful if you are purchasing meat from there. Many years ago in another city, I noticed an Asian super market sold frozen meat (looks prehistory) to a person who apparently was purchasing not for self consumption. I also noticed the meat product in the asian stores tend to bear an expiration date in far far future, and from then on, I stay away from them. I bought a whole fish from 99 Ranch in Austin yesterday. When I got home, I found the smelly fish gut packed with the fish. In addition, both side of the body were torn apart. This is the cleanest and nicest 99 Ranch Store I have ever been to! It is like walking into a Whole Foods store. It is well lit and the staff was actually friendly too. I never thought I would bother reviewing a grocery store, but this one is quite noteworthy. Even the fish market didn't smell fishy at all. It has all the usual things you would find in a 99 ranch, but this one just really stands out. The food stall area is very clean too. I stopped and had a combo lunch with some sesame balls with the kiddos and we took home a fresh spiral sponge cake home from the bakery. They also have a points program like most grocery stores, so be sure to sign up. I am a super happy Happa to have found this 99 Ranch since I moved from California. So cool 99 Ranch, or Ranch 99, opened up here in Austin. A few years ago I email their corporate headquarters suggesting them to open a store in Austin. They said they would look into it. Then for awhile I just go to the stores in Houston. They have a bakery, Chinese food restaurant, and a boba place. Now either I should compare it to Hmart or not. Well Hmart has more restaurants for their food court and a K-pop store. Hmart is bigger than 99 Ranch and they have the food I need. 99 Ranch is just what I need to make my life complete. A centrally located, clean, organized, friendly Asian food market with all the essentials - seafood tanks, in-house bakery, meats cut for stir-fry, BBQ counter, dim sum, plenty of frozen dumpling choices, all my favorite Asian snacks, all the Asian veggie staples... the list goes on and on. The store is particularly strong in Taiwanese brands and foodstuffs, although there is plenty for you Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Japanese product fans too. I was surprised that there was a fair amount of American products/brands on the shelves too. My sense was that they were trying to appeal to people who want to do all their grocery shopping in one place, but my guess is that most people would prefer more shelf space dedicated to Asian products rather than peanut butter or orange juice, because they still need to run to HEB as well anyway. Prices seem quite reasonable to me, and they run lots of weekly specials, so sign-up online for their electronic flyer if you like to be informed of those sorts of things. This 99 Ranch is not huge, but it totally gets the job done, and in fact, I prefer it to the bigger places. Here the vibe isn't "drive in from 40 miles away and spend hours in the parking lot and crowds to stock up for the next month." This is more of an easy "pop in a few times a week to grab a few things" kind of place. So happy 99 Ranch has arrived!! read more
