I was really looking forward to visiting this market for the first time since it's in my neighborhood and I had a very specific item that I knew they would have - shirataki noodles. Of course, their noodle aisle is jam packed with every type of noodle you can imagine, most of the packages written in a foreign language, so after a few trips up-and-down said aisle with no luck, I decided to visit the 'Information' booth for a little help. Keep in mind, that it was about 20 minutes to closing time so they weren't exactly overwhelmed with business at this time. I went and asked the guy working the 'Information' booth if he knew where I could find the shirataki noodles. He just waved me off and told me to go check on aisle 7 (where I just came from) and when I started to ask if he could be a little more specific, he totally disregarded me and started talking to a cashier at the nearest check-out line. Rude. I decided to ask someone else. I did find another employee who tried to help me out but had no idea what a shirataki noodle was. He thought shirataki was the brand name. Seriously? I mean they carry these things are freaking Wal-Mart for heaven's sakes. How can you not know what these are? It's like going to Fiesta and them never having heard of a corn tortilla. Anyhow, this poor guy tried his best to help me to no avail. He even typed it in his phone and looked at a picture of them so he could get an idea of what he was looking for. Nope. Oh well. The store was about to close and I was absolutely dumbfounded that the one store that I KNEW would have this item treated me dismissively at first and then didn't seem to have any knowledge of something that should have been found so easily. I love this Asian Grocery store more than Hmart, Hana World, and MT Supermarket. I love how clean the meat and seafood departments are (no weird smell), the fresh and neatly packaged produce, and the white spaciousness of the food court area. Finally!!! Another asian market in the ATX!!! Also in mid-town instead of up north which is nice for us south side Austinites. Has everything you need. The seafood section is fantastic including sushi grade fish and endless selections of fish and seafood balls for hot pot or soups! It's surprisingly super clean for an Asian market and I hope they maintain that standard. Also includes a small fast food court with trashy dim sum in case you want a quick fix. I always love Ranch99. Whole or half duck (not the roast kind) at the deli is very good. But this location has one star off because of the parking. If you have a larger size car (ours is only a minivan), do not attempt to park at the rows in the middle of parking lot unless this place is less crowded. Instead park on the side! Beautiful and nice selection of Asian groceries! I went here for the bubble tea initially; I hadn't realized the bubble tea was inside the market. Having previously dealt with MT, I was prepared for anything, I was impressed. This place is clean bright and modern. Many items are written in non-English. But the staff will not hound you unless you specifically ask for help. The only thing which was unusual was getting through the checkout terminal. Haven't been to 99 ranch in a while so I decided to go today. Go out of the car walked over to the shopping carts and it is disgusting. They don't even bother cleaning it, I know it's customers that use it but you guys own the shopping carts at least clean them once in a while. Went inside without a shopping cart. The store looked pretty clean. Nice selection of fruits and veggies. Looked for a bottle of soy sauce and it was 28 dollars wtf???. It's 15-16 dollars in MT supermarket. Went to pay for my fruits. I see her wiping down the conveyor belt. The cashier said don't put grocery bags on the conveyer belt.... okay. Moved it to the end to bag my groceries. She tells me no grocery bags anywhere on the register. What the F? Why don't you wipe the spot where the grocery bags go? You aren't touching my grocery bags or bagging my things. Annoyed had to bag my groceries on the floor. Wasn't even allowed to use the sliding board to support the bag. read more

I enjoy having a 99 in Austin, with all the asian super markets popping up I'm sure competition is rising H mart, 99 ranch and the OG MT supermarket. I want to support this business because it has a lot to offer but the one thing that keeps me from coming here is the parking. Yes PARKING. It's ridiculously small, which makes parking not just hard but it leads to a higher chance of people denting your vehicle. This month of August alone I spend more money on fixing my car dents then on groceries. Thanks 99! I decided I would not return to this plaza and establishment after getting ding twice this month alone and once last month. It might cost some money to redo the lines for parking but it's definitely worth the investment bc I'm not the only one getting ding up in the parking lot. I would suggest parking two spots if you do come here or pay 120 per a dent. I hope the 99 ranch gods hear this bc this is outrages. Pick me up from the floor because today I died - Ranch 99 in Austin is here in Highland Village! The day has finally come where I don't need to drive more than 10 minutes to procure my fresh Asian greens, dried goods, seafood, and meat. Clean, central, with a hot deli, bakery, juice bar. I am especially looking forward to cooking with lotus root, watercress, daikon, Chinese cabbage (bai cai), bok choy, long green beans, Chinese broccoli (gai lan) and Chinese green chives (pungent but delish if you can handle it). The freshly cut spices in the fridge section are a steal at around $1 a bunch - basil, dill, parsley etc. Meat aisle has the goods for my fave beef noodle soup (beef shank) and beef flat rice noodles (beef flank). Good on ground pork for dumplings. Seafood aisle has live fish and shellfish (my kids favorite part, less stinky than other places), and the fish laying out while on ice look fresh as well - ask the fishmonger to check that the meat springs back quickly and the eyes are clear. The dried good aisles had my go to's - Thai and Japanese curry, coconut milk, pork floss (dried flaked pork jerky) and fermented tofu for my breakfast congee. Frozen section also had the typical scallion pancakes and lumpia wrappers. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the store. It's a bit smaller than the ranch 99's I've seen in southern California but that is of minor concern - this store has what I need to feed my family the food they want - it will be quick to buy, fresh, and pretty healthy. I wish Yelp could have separated review pages for different sections of a supermarket. I have mixed feelings for each department in this market. The two stars go to the variety of merchandise and good pricing. Quality of service is essential to food service industry. No matter how great the selection of the products are, most customers would not mind paying just for a little bit extra if they are treated with respect and courtesy. I was very excited when the news of this market coming to town. I even went to the test opening a week before the grand opening. The bakery store was so busy but the cashiers were too slow! I thought as time went by, managers would realize where the problems were. Yet today my experience was taken to another level of disappointment. The Spanish-speaking old female cashier was training a junior staff when I finished picking my bakery items. There was only one lady behind me at the line who I helped her by guiding her to put a piece of paper in between her bakery item and the tray. The trainer was talking in Spanish about one cup pudding dessert with the junior while I was waiting in the wrong lane, which I didn't realize. Then more customers got behind the lady waiting on line, but I thought they were waiting for a different register (I was waiting closer to another register). The senior cashier was still training the junior girl just on the price of that particular pudding item!!! It had been about 6 minutes already! At last she finally noticed I was at the wrong lane and told me in a very impatient tone: "the line starts over there!" I looked at her and asked: "so I would have to get to the end of the line even though I got here before her(pointing to the lady behind me at another line)?" That lady was helped by me earlier said "you can pay before me. I don't mind." But the senior cashier replied with a poker face "I am just telling you where the line starts!" I was fairly mad coz I am not paying for this type of rudeness and humiliation in front a full line of customers as if I tried to cut in their line!!! I immediately walked away but still tried to be nice and put the bakery items back instead of leaving them on the table. Again the senior cashier started yelling loud at me: "Mam'a! You can't put them back yourself! You have to bring them back to me!" That was the most embarrassing moment in my life!!! I really don't think this lady should have been working in this service industry!!!!!!!! Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When my friend came over later, we were talking at the table by the bakery section, my friend looked surprised aside. I asked him what happened. He said he saw the young bakery staff dropped a whole bunch of tongs on the ground and she just held them up and shuffled all into the cabinet below the display window! We decided to give them another chance at their food court. Big mistake AGAIN! All four of us had different foods. All agreed it was terrible. Food was good when they first open. Would never be back. Very weird place here. There was a guy wearing uniform at checkout. He was not helping the checkout nor packing the groceries. It seems his only work is to jumping in to quarrel with customers who were complaining about the the shopping experience. Had a short unpleasant conversation with him, stepped back bc I didn't want to be treated rudely and ruin my day. 99 ranch, if you don't want to hear your customers' opinion you can write it down and hang anywhere in your store. Got to the check out at the food court they bump me to check out other customers because they speak Chinese. My number is 95, and their number is 99. I was super excited when I got the chance to go check out the new 99 Ranch in Austin. After my visit, not so excited anymore. The store seemed to offer less variety than other 99 Ranch Markets I've been to. Some of the prices were higher on some products while other were way cheaper. Their produce selection was the best part but still could offer a wider variety in my opinion. The store is hard to navigate especially when it is mildly busy so I cannot imagine going on a super busy day. The layout of the store made no sense. Too many sections of frozen goods. I would much rather have it all in one area instead of playing hide n seek around the store. Lastly I have to comment on their glass freezers and refrigerators. They sweat A LOT and it isn't even hot yet! To the point where you can't see the products unless you open the doors and stand there looking for what you want. (Total waste of energy!) Hopefully they improve as time goes on but for now I'll hit up the other asian markets in the area. read more

My wife and I thought after 2 weeks of opening the chaotic crowd would be over but we were wrong. It was so busy by the bakery, smoothie, and food hall. For some reason, the foodhall area where dim sum was a total cluster"mess" ("!@#$") Lets just say it was disorganized and not orderly. We took a ticket #35 and the electronic display was #95. My advice for the food hall and bakery area at 99 ranch would be to setup a bankers line. Dont setup up yellow cones that say "floor is wet." Majority of the customers dont know where to go. You need a bankers line or tape the floor with bright duck tape and show the customers where to go. When calling #s by the waiting area say it in English and say it Mandarin. The people working there had no strong leadership. Its like the blind leading the blind. They need to communicate as a team. Train the team on customer service. People working there today was a Sunday and their attitude was just bad by the way they were throwing empty DIM SUM bins in the trash can. Customer service is very important if you want the business to thrive in Austin. Hoping when we return in 2 wks it is more organized. read more
