99 Ranch doesn't get enough good reviews these days. My favorite store is still here, the one on Wolfe Rd. Cupertino plaza. The store's sales deals and item selections are huge. Yes, they always put sales prices up in most visible areas and the new year products are always tempting to buy. Good tasting snacks/chocolates/gummies/biscuits/cookies and more. I never had any problems checking out on weekdays. Staffs are always busy and helpful. Good management onsite. This location has much more varieties of foods and snacks to offer. I can find stuff here that are unavailable elsewhere. Note, the BBQ wonton and noodle soup area is still one of the best tasting ones that I have visited. I feel good coming here to shop each time. Good food vibes. I ended up buying a large red bag of rice crackers $8.88, orange/tangerine gummy candy in an orange container (best flavor not authentic), plum candy, seaweed crackers, and small snacks. Satisfied. You really need to browse around at the good 99 Ranch locations these days. Milpitas location and Warm Springs Fremont are more expensive locations. read more

Came by for half a roasted duck the other day and it was a decent experience. Parking is plentiful on the surface lot in front of the grocery store. Parking spaces are extremely tight though. Half roast duck is $17.75 half. There was a special for $27 for an entire roast duck at the time of my visit. Staff did their best upselling. Some staff wore a mask along with tight nitrile gloves. Out of all the 99 Ranch Markets, this location is my favorite as it is the one I grew up going to with my parents almost every weekend. Plus I know the layout of this 99 ranch the best. They have Asian vegetables, fruit, carbs (noodles, bread, rice), herbs, tea, candy, etc... you name it ! I don't really eat meat so I can't say much on the meat/deli/fish section of the store... my mother used to like getting a pound of ground pork at 99 ranch though growing up and it would turn into delicious 肉燥飯 growing up. I also really like their hot deli food ! In the grocery store area, for every $10 range you spend over $20, you get a $1 coupon for the bakery/hot deli area. So if you spend $26 for example, you get a $1 voucher and if you spend $35 for example, you would get $2, etc... Anyways, this is not a Trader Joe's where the employees greet and try to have small talk with you, they're just trying get their job done. The servers in the hot deli area are also helpful with questions. Overall this store has an abundance of Asian food products that you won't find easily elsewhere ! read more

Quality/Quantity - This was my 1 star 99 Ranch Market, actually because of them, I STOPPED becoming a customer. I only shop with the brand when I do not have another option. Over 23 years ago, I tried to do an exchange with a bag of rice that had bugs in it. The manager refused. So I wrote to the district manager. I gave them my credit card # so they can look up how much $$ we spend with them, and I shared that I did NOT want a refund but only an exchange. They refused again. That was the last time I shopped here until today. And I only came today because I wanted another beer, and was too lazy to go out of my way to 7/11. Tried the Haidilao Beer today, and it was way better than I expected. My wife told me that it was a Chinese beer. Nice to see the Chinese get into the craft beer business, industry. Atmosphere - Consistent. Parking is a challenge, too many poor drivers. And in their defense, I am not sure if the parking lot is user friendly??? Tight spaces, tight aisles, etc. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 10pm. Service - Okay. Price - Above average, but I did not care today. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1984 with your 54 locations. Again, if it was NOT for this one location, I would probably be a regular customer. This 99 ranch location is very convenient, right off 280 & Wolf. However, this location is an older location, store is also very small comparing to other locations. There's only two isles of frozen freezers ranch available and frozen stuff are limited compared to other locations. In addition, some of the item prices are slightly higher. For example, the live crabs at this location I purchased was $5.99/lb, the same product at SJ Hostetter was $4.99/lb. I don't understand, they are a chain, their prices are very different. This location is also busy all the time. Isles are very narrow, I have hard time getting by with two carts. But I like their deli here, seems like they have a couple of items that they don't have elsewhere. This is one of the reason I like to come here. Parking is a bit more competitive compared to other locations like De Anza or Grant, but nowhere near as bad as any Bay Area Costco. They have a great variety of Chinese and pan-Asian groceries, and a weekly flyer with sales. You can get a $1 deli/bakery coupon for every $20 you spend, or $2 per $20 if you hit $60 on weekdays / $80 on weekends. The selection is mostly the same as other locations, but I find that this one tends to have a greater selection of pastries like fancy pineapple cake or various Japanese biscuits. read more

I came in at 8 pm and it was so empty. Of course, the deli, bakery, and fish & meat department were closed. Nobody working them. But the store was wide open! They close at 10 pm. I was able to find my Thai tea mix and $80+ of groceries while walking up and down all the aisles on a Tuesday night. I'll have to come back to spend my deli dollars which is double on week day shopping, $2 for every $25. Super nice with no crowds. Last time I shopped on a weekend, every cashier line went half way down the aisles and near Thanksgiving, it wrapped around the aisle. So, I was very happy it wasn't crowded. read more

Parking here is pretty decent. Lots of carts but seems old, worn out and/or rusty. Ended up taking a cart with a loose wheel that spun continuously and made the loudest noise as I wheeled it down the aisles. I made it that far already, I didn't bother replacing it. I thought about it though.. Food here is well stocked and I was able to get majority of the things I came for. They seemed to have a glitch in their system.. they were about to charge me $42 for a 6-pack of coco rico soda. Shout out for Andrew who caught it and corrected it. read more

This 99 Ranch Market has been at this corner of Homestead and Wolfe for many decades. I used to come here with my parents. Now, I come for quick grabs. Not sure why all aisles were so narrow. Once someone standing in an aisle, there isn't anything space to walk pass them. The hot deli section really needs some TLC. I understand the staff shortage causing self serve meal combo. People just piling up the food in the takeout box. All menu prices were covered up. I felt rushed shopping here. However, there are plenty of parking spots. read more

Of all the nearby Asian supermarkets in the South Bay close to Sunnyvale/Santa Clara borders, this Ranch 99 would be the one to go to. It's located off HWY-280 near Wolfe Road exit inside the Cupertino Plaza right across from the Appe Spaceship HQ. Parking is plentiful but can turn challening near lunch/dinner or holidays. THIS location used to be my go-to place for Asian groceries or treats. However, things have turned me off post-COVID lockdown. Yes, recent high inflations have caused things to skyrocket, many items are twice as expensive. Nowadays, I find similar items much more affordable at Hankook Supermarket on El Camino, about ~1 mile away. 99 Ranch Market in Cupertino is your pretty standard Asian supermarket. The good news is that you can find almost any Chinese food item you need--whether it's produce, fruit, or shelf-stable goods. It's really convenient for stocking up on Chinese ingredients that can be harder to find elsewhere. That said, I've had some issues with the fresh noodles. On multiple occasions, I've come home to find they were already molding, which was so disappointing! If you're looking for better quality produce and fresh noodles, I recommend checking out Hankook Supermarket nearby. Their produce is top-notch, and I've never had a problem with their noodles. The only downside is that Hankook doesn't carry some of the Chinese-specific items I get at 99 Ranch, like pea sprouts. Overall, 99 Ranch is still great for certain essentials, but just be cautious with the fresh items. read more

Do not buy these items at their hot food counter. They are terrible beyond words. Last time I posted about their moldy castella cake and thry contacted me saying they would check on their baking goods. Yet, they continue to serve terrible food here. For a multi-million dollars chain supermarket, they sure lack quality control and integrity! How can they sell people such awful foods?? The char siu bao had mushy bread in some places and old tasting meat filling. Oddly, some spots were extremely dry at the same time. The vegetables bao had extremely dry skin outside, dry bread and weird mushy vegetables inside. The vegetables Eggroll had mushy filling, with very little inside and hard greasy uwrapping outside. I'm disgusted that they would sell this to unsuspecting customers who doesn't know any better about how these food should taste like. I happen to know and the entire box was chucked into the garbage after I tried a bite of each and couldn't swallow them. I tossed 1 char siu bao, 3 Vegetables and 4 eggrolls away. I bought some of the chow fun in the hot food section, and it is really tasty. You fill up the container yourself and then you bring it to the cashier nearby to pay. You're allowed to pack it to the brim and as long as the lid closes, you're all set! This supermarket has all the standard Chinese grocery items you may need, and it has a meat counter as well. This location seems very busy on the weekends. The plaza it's in seems pretty lively - there's boba spots, restaurants, etc. to check out. read more

The service here is the worst supermarket I have ever been to. After getting some groceries, I went up to service desk to get some lotto tickets. After about 8 minutes of waiting. I was told by a server that I had to get in line with the cashier lane #3 or 4 in order to get lottery tickets. I got back in line and waited for another 10 minutes, only be told by a cashier named Eva that they do not sell lottery tickets today. Eva is very rude , only response I got from her is "I don't know who told you, we don't sell lotto ticket today. You not getting it." Dishonesty store. We go shopping 99 ranch market at different stores(Milpitas, San Jose, south Cupertino, cupertino) almost every week. This is worst 99 ranch market in the bay area by far. 1. They sometime discounted sale 'fresh seafood' items closed to the 'live seafood'. These item are not fresh in my options, they were dead body from the pool, not sure they are dead for how long. We have purchased fresh lobsters and fresh oyster, and end up diarrhea for couple days. 2. In the cooked food section, they put a paper saying discounted soy sauce cooked chicken for $4.8 lbs. But when you checked out, they used the yellow hair steam chicken price which is $10 lbs. I asked why? They explained to me that the soy sauce chicken is out of stock, and this is yellow hair chicken. I told her i never notice that steam yellow hair chicken is soy sauced and was told that this is soy sauce chicken made out of yellow hair chicken, so it is matching the price of $10. I was asked I should be flexible for the price/item name changed. LOL All in all, I would avoid this dishonest store based on bad experiences. The management is very likely messed up. If i could put 0 then ZERO stars. Went here and bought groceries, bought and PAID for a bunch of groceries. I wanted something from the bakery. They have this rule where you cant bring your grocery cart inside so they have a guard who watches and you get a number to hold onto and one on your cart. But when I came back, my cart was gone and the guard was too busy talking to his fellow guard to notice. He couldn't find my cart, another lady came to assist but they couldn't find it. The guard even went out to check outside and tried to show me a ticket that wasn't even my number? Make that make sense. They had me wait 30 minutes to check the footage. I just wanted to leave at this point and asked for a refund, but they were insistent on finding my cart. Eventually they came and told me a man took it and eventually just refunded me. It felt like a fat waste of my time. HEADS UP. If you shop here and want to go to the bakery, bring someone with you and be aware. That guard is useless. read more

This grocery is always a spot we hit up when we make the trek over the mountain to California. Gotta bring a large cooler for all the cold or frozen goods. They just have a great selection of Asian vegetables, fruit, fresh seafood, and other frozen delights you just can't find in Reno. Some markets are better than others, but most have a bakery to get delicious buns and breads for home. Most also have an in house restaurant to pick up some dim sum items and even a roast duck that they chop up for you! Truly an international market! read more

The Flagship 99 Ranch in SJ is still my favorite, but this one probably take second place. It is spacious, and everything is well organized. You can find many items for Chinese / Vietnamese cooking here, and there are always special deals for popular items. Some of my favorite include the dumplings, any of the Vitasoy products, Chi'mei (Taiwan) items, etc. Produce can be cheap, as long as it is not too exotic, like starfruit or fruits imported from Asia. The meats are usually more expensive compared with your usual grocery store (but you are likely here because this is the only place where you can obtain the cut you need for what ever dish you are making). If you spend more than $70, you are able to get some tickets that you can use to purchase items at the built-in Hong Kong style eatery. The more you spend, the more tickets you get. This means you can buy a roast duck, roast pork, etc. for free depending on your spending. read more

In general I feel this store is bigger, cleaner and has fresher produce compared to other markets. I finally found the tea I've been looking for here. I have been coming here ever since I was little and it seems like this place hasn't changed much. Before the late 2010s this was the only 99 Ranch in Cupertino and recently there are now a lot less people here thanks a new 99 ranch opening in the Oakridge/Almaden area. Back before the Almaden opening this was the premier 99 ranch where people who live in different areas would converge. Like every other 99 ranch market the price is very high for all items. The bento foods in the food court taste very bland and is hard to chew. Drawback: Parking here can be very troublesome on Saturdays or during lunar new year because people are always trying to buy things for their pantry or special dinner they may be preparing. On the weekends this place can be very noisy and crowded so please watch where you are going. read more

Wow! I don't know how they organize their food section... There is supposed to be a cashier at the Duck section, Dim Sum, and Fast Food Chinese. I know because I see a cash register at each section. I grab my chow fun, and no one is there to check me out, so I walk over to the Dim Sum section to check out. She's literally looks as if she doesn't even see me, I watch her pour water into a cup and drink it. Then, she realized I'm staring at her! She walks over very slowly, opens my food box, and then tells me how much it is. They're not friendly at all. Then, I went to get a sea bass fish, and I'm standing there but everyone behind the counter was helping other customers. And No one was taking orders...but I waited...until I was helped! For a whole sea bass fish to be washed and fried, it was about 10 dollars. Approximately 15 minutes. It's very oily! I walk back to the Dim Sum section and grab another box of food, it looks really bad because about 4 people in front of me were standing in the Dim Sum section waiting to pay for their food and no one is there. Everyone at the Dim Sum section walks over to the Duck section to check out. Which takes so much longer because I walked over to the Duck section to pay for my food, while I'm there, I look over at the Fast Food Chinese section and they were down to one customer. And I still have a whole bunch of people ahead of me. Because they take your duck order and you pay, instead of helping the next customer, they're cutting the Duck. So you're waiting to check out your food here and it is a messy system! The entire food section just seem so unorganized! It's like sometime there's a person to help you and sometime there's no one! Besides Costco, this is my go to grocery store. I've been going here for over 20 years. Their produce is hit and miss. Sometimes I find really good veggies and fruit and other times they are not so fresh. Their seafood section quality has gone down (not as fresh). It's a good place to buy pre-packaged Asian goods. On Sun, 1/28/24 I bought fish congee for the 2nd time this month and it was very overcooked fish, just like last time. I don't know if you changed your cook who always overcooks the fish in the congee now and it is no longer soft and tasty like it used to be. Please train your worker how to make fish congee. I saw her leaving a bunch of fish in the hot water even before it was ordered so adding it in from there produced overcooked hard fish. The person who used to make it would get the raw fish when ordered then add to hot water briefly, then add that into the congee. Leaving the fish soaking in hot water has ruined and overcooked the fish. Someone there should taste the fish congee that is being made there by that weekend Sunday worker to taste how overcooked the fish is now. read more

Came in today after my last visit over a year ago to pick up rice. The rice is up at the front of the store so the narrow aisles make it difficult to browse and pick up the large heavy bags. No one helps you so if you can't carry the 25 pound bag your out of luck. Fortunately I'm able to pick up the bag and wandered into the aisles. After browsing I made my way to the register and the lady rung up my rice and a bag of candy. The price of the 25 pound bag was $63 and with my candy $70. I asked her for a smaller bag of rice and she just laughed at me and called other people to the register in her language. Another lady came shock her head and said "no we don't have a smaller size". I told the cashier I wasn't going to take it and she laughed some more and continued talking to the other cashiers in her language. The cashier wanted me to put the rice back up at the front of the store. I told her I didn't want anything and left. After this interaction it's safe to say I will never be back. It's unfortunate that this place cannot appreciate the business of people who enjoy consuming their foods. This visit was uncomfortable and a waste of time. read more

Pretty decent Chinese market. 3 stars for typical Chinese market, 1 extra star for pretty good deli and bakery. Can always find the usual items here. Some items cheaper at other Asian markets, veggies and fruit are ok, don't expect high end organics. You can get most of your food items here, so convenience and closeness of the place make it a return place. Never had any issues with workers here. Don't expect anyone to be overly helpful, probably better to ask other customers if you need help. Will be back just because it's still here and has our staples for an ok price. Deli is usually pretty decent, hot, typical for an Asian deli. Bakery we have used for quite a few special occasion cakes. Pretty decent flavor/quality for the cost. Don't get your hot pot meat from here. Its frozen and meh. Some of the food here is not very fresh. Check expiration dates on EVERYTHING some of the ice cream looked SUPER sketch. We bought green tea ice cream here and it had freezer burn on it. It was frozen solid and icy and gummy when melted, not creamy at all. At the register, they give out $1 hot food/deli coupons for every $10 you spend. This place is also kind of expensive. So, don't buy anything here that you can buy somewhere else. (ie American/Western food) Only buy the Chinese/Asian stuff you can't find anywhere else. Their hot food section is MEH. The roasted duck is SOOOO salty. Bleh. Its inedible according to my mother.
