I've been going to 99 Ranch Market located in Hostetter Rd San Jose CA many times. This was my first time buying their hot foods and i'm not impress or bothered to take any pictures. For a med compact plate togo cost around $17 with 3 bland grilled boneless chicken thighs, 6 fried shrimps and 2 small sweet and sour chicken drum-lets. For this much and the subpar mediocre flavor you're better off going to a AYCE buffet for this much. This is one and done. read more

The chaos is maddening! I parked far from the store in order to make an easy escape. You know what I mean. The stores along I-580 are more chaotic. This one is so busy and I found a few drinks that I wanted. I ended up looking for something else another person needed and they didn't seem to have. I didn't see the bigger containers of Yeo's Soy Milk that I got in Livermore, although they had refrigerated soy milk. I don't own a car, so I have to store things differently. Ordering online works, but it's often not the best way to find what's new. While I got something I wanted and the cashier was friendly and efficient, I'd rather go to the Fremont or West Dublin stores. My mother lives near this location (Mckinley ca) hence we are familiar with all the nice and polite staff here. So when we came across this person in the bakery department (Roy) we assumed the best, however we were surprised when he became unnecessarily chatty in our native language. I was itching to make some fried rice, so I stopped by 99 Ranch grocery store on Hostetter Road in San Jose. No lines and no crowds during weekday morning 9:30am-10:30am hour. Nice. Cashiers were all ready to ring customers up, but there weren't too many people inside yet. Took my time to browse around for meats and sauces. Wow, $0.99 per pack Indonesian cooking sauces/food marinades. Deal! I picked up a bit of everything. I usually pay $1.50-$2.99 for a pack of good Asian cooking sauces. I ended up making Indonesian Nasi Goreng fried rice and the sauce did not disappoint. Strong in flavor and yummy. I will cook the Rendang Beef tomorrow. Good red meats at 99 Ranch are always highest in prices. Tofu section has wide selections. I usually go with 5-spices tofu or extra firm tofu which is highest in nutrients. Inexpensive. Chicken breast was affordable, but you will notice that all meat packages have smaller sizes & quantities in them. For Asian groceries and ingredients, this location is convenient for sure. You can run errands at USPS/post office, Costco, restaurants, and more. I used to visit more often when working in the area. Not much has changed. Busy streets and intersections. 99 Ranch is a must for most Asian grocery shoppers who cook at home. They have everything here. Downside? Yes, it's always busy and crowded during peak hours plus lunch & dinner hours. Parking spaces are not easy to find on most days and it's easy to run into people wandering around who aren't looking, so be careful. Highly congested area at times. Old building hasn't been renovated and it's dark most of the time. High prices all around. Interior is always freezing cold. Front entrance area is a bit tight in spaces and lots of customers are waiting for BBQ meats/boxed hot food items, etc. It's still great to have a 99 Ranch here though. read more

I do feel the prices are slightly higher than most Asian grocery stores. The bakery at this location is not aesthetically as pleasing as the other 99 Ranch locations. It's crowded and cluttered. With that said, I did try some of the cheesecake flavors behind the glass and they were all right. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. Standard prices for baked goods. Stopped by 99 Ranch Supermarket last night for an evening grocery run. The store has plenty of parking, and the shopping carts are newer, which was a nice touch. They had a good selection of fresh vegetables, sliced meats, fish balls, and some solid sale items like kimchi and Korean tofu. The store itself is cleaner than other Asian markets I've been to, which was appreciated. However, I ran into an issue at checkout--two of the sale items rang up at full price. I had to show the ad to get the correct pricing, which was a bit frustrating. It would be better if they were more consistent with their advertised deals. Overall, a decent shopping experience, but double-check your receipt if you're buying sale items. read more

Be careful when you buy any food from the hot food section. When they weigh the food, they use a heavy metal pan and they charge you for the weight of the pan. The guy tried to tell me that they tare it and remove the weight of the pan, but they do not. I asked him to weigh it in front of me and of course the weight changed. Even if it's a small amount, it shows deceptive business practices. Both the old Chinese man cutting the meat and the Hispanic female at the cash register both lied about it. I didn't make a scene. I just paid the extra cost, but they get this bad review as a result. read more

I did not like giving a business 1 star. Very disappointed. I bought some quail eggs packs in a rush for crab soup. I went home opened the cases, realized one of the case got really bad spoiled eggs. Chalky shell and odor with mold. Why selling this to customers? This is ridiculous. Please see picture. This stuff is very easy get spoiled they must did a lousy checking. I wonder the quality of their other products in the store. Cashier and Butcher were nice except the old lady in bakery. We bought a milktea in 99 Ranch bakery and first lady gave us a small straw. We tried to ask the First Lady ( she is nice ) if they had a big straw because the milktea had boba. Everything was fine until the Second Lady, walked out from the back of bakery. She started to yelling at us that "We are bakery, BAKERY". She made a loud voice and said something in Mandarin. 1st: you're selling the "boba" milktea without big straw. 2nd: That's fine if you don't have the straw but PLEASE DO NOT YELLING AT CUSTOMERS. We are fine with no big straws but that's not with your ATTITUDE. This is the first time we're back to shopping in this supermarket. I think we would be back but I change my mind. Good selection but the trade off is poor customer service. This market is well known within the Asian community for all meat, seafood, produce, and cooking needs. Whether you're making hot pot, an authentic Chinese dish, or a Vietnamese cuisine classic -- you are likely able to find the ingredients you need here. As of December 23, 2020, these guys are limiting the number of customers into the market at any given time (capping it at 101 customers at max capacity). Masks are required. Social distancing is not really monitored or enforced. Cashiers, shelf stockers, and all other service workers will barely speak to you. They want you in and out. We witnessed him not just once but twice shouting on two separate occasions while working. He's mixed, wearing a black mask. First time witnessing a store clerk showing an outburst of anger. I had been shopping at 99 for almost 10 years. Came in just to get soy milk today. Couldn't find one carton that doesn't have expiration date labeling tomorrow. I spoke with 5 different staff that works there and none of them gave me good attitude. One didn't bother to face me nor look at me in the eye, just wanted me to walk away. One knew I was there, but also didn't want to engage. One didn't speak English but tried to find someone who does, but that person just said, the manufacture will take it back. Will take what back? When i first moved here and stepped into this 99 ranch, i remember thinking, this is SO small! parking can be a little crazy on weekends but if you can avoid the rush hours, it isn't so bad -- overall you're bound to get a spot because there are plenty of parking spots in this shopping center (just that you may have to do some walking). I haven't encounter rude employees here. in fact the people at the BBQ counter has always been pretty good. though no super friendly but they weren't rude. I frequent this location because it's the closest. And if i need any last minute items i can easily go get it (IF they have it). I always try to go to HMART for most things because i find HMart cleaner and more spacious and they open super early. This 99 Ranch is not so clean, sometimes don't have what I am looking for and sometimes their produce can be quite pricey. But for the basic, yes if you're in the area, this place will do. read more

But I asked an older man stocking the isle I was looking for if there were more brands available of an item, and he said they don't have any. Went super early in the morning to get some Peking Duck to take back to Fresno, let me tell you the line was long! Inside the store they have an area that sells duck, roasted pork, chicken, and also some heated food items where you can create your own plate. The duck was super good, nice a crispy and lots of flavor! Loved it. It's $26 for a whole duck. This establishment is a grocery store and you can get all kinds of Asian goods!
