Great atmosphere, good food, reasonable price. I have 99 problems and this ain't one.

Had not been to the 99 in years. Got the country fried chicken that was very over fried. So crispy it almost broke my teeth. Mashed potatoes pasty and not creamy. Served whole berry cranberry sauce with the meal. Also new to the menu were ribs. These seemed undercooked. Meat did not fall off the bone and were chewy. Will not be back any time soon. read more

For a regional chain restaurant that has been in business for over 50 years, you'd think that they could get the air conditioning right. Instead there is always a story about how they're "TRYING" to deal with it and satisfy everyone. Also, depending on which 99 you are at.....it is mandatory for all TV's to be on sports. No CNN, Fox or MSNBC or even local news. Way too much heavy metal music too....probably programming for the kitchen crew. This place needs to take a lesson from their competitor, T-Bones whose tag line is "the answer is always YES" read more

Although I don't normally visit this location it was by chance my party of two found ourselves here on a recent Friday evening. The 25 minute wait was well worth it. We found the dining room clean and well lit but not too noisy even at full capacity. As always, great meal selections at affordable prices. Our server Carly went "above & beyond " her duties to accommodate our requests. Overall a wonderful dining experience. We will definitely frequent again soon! read more

My significant other and I continually visit this 99 location and enjoy ourselves every time. It really has that 'New England' feel to it (it's hard to explain via words) and always feel lively/busy. Typically the staff are great, and seem far more down to earth than some other places who only seem to hire 'looks' over 'function'. The food is always delicious/warm, drinks are always 'just right' and the prices aren't bad at all. If you're looking for a good 'can't figure out where to go' spot, the 99 is totally the place to go! read more

On June 11 At 1:47pm we visited the dining room. , order appetizers and our usual king size steak tips. We ordered one medium and one medium well. We have been ordering them exactly like this for over a decade and they're always to our liking . The tips came out DRY , mine were downright burned . Way beyond even well done . We informed our waiter who then went to get the manager on duty . The manager was a young woman named Erin . We politely explained to Erin we did NOT wish to send back the over done tips as we never would feel comfortable eating food AFTER you complain. , doesnt take a genius to understand why . Erin simply said all she could do is remake them . That's it . We weren't necessarily looking for a free meal , a little enthusiasm about how poor the food they served us would've been sufficient. Maybe a discount card for future visit ?? Something to show yeah we messed up . NOTHING . She could've cared less , not going above and beyond an inch . If she isn't this way she certainly showed us this by her lack of actions . We've been 99 customers for over a decade , we've never had an issue here before always get same thing . My wife and I just went to the 99 in Salem, NH and purchased two large Bud Light Drafts ($11.18), a Wings & Potato Skins ($13.59) for my wife, and a Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($11.99) for me. When my meal came out, it had a large ant with wings walking around on my French Fries. I immediately complained to a waitress walking by and she took it away. The manager came out within 3 minutes with another plate. I told him I did not want to eat off the same plate that had a bug on it and he insisted that it was not the same plate, that people order Spicy Chicken Sandwiches all the time and it was someone else's and they would end up waiting longer. He then said that I would not have to pay for the sandwich he would take it off the bill. Like a fool, I believed him and ate my meal. When we were finished eating, the waitress brought the check (I gave her an $8 tip (20% of the full price)) and my wife told her that we shouldn't have to pay for anything because there was a bug in our meal. The manger then came out and said that he told the waitress not to charge us for either of the meals but we would have to pay for the alcholol. This was clearly a lie. He only said I wouldn't have to pay for my sandwich. If he lied about this, then he undoubtedly lied about bringing out a different plate for me. I feel sick. I will never go back to the Salem NH 99 again. This manager was a complete lier. Hello, the General Manager Daren called me just now (Monday 3/14 11:57 AM) He was very nice and assured me that it was not the same plate. I believe him, he was very sincere. He said that he was in the kitchen that night and knew for a fact it was a different plate. My wife and I like the 99 and were and are regular customers. We will go back again. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, not anymore. I had the chicken tender/steak tip combo. The tenders were anything but! They were dry and tasteless. The tips were tough and chewy. The mashed potatoes were a cold paste. My companion had the ribs. They were so fatty that he didn't eat half of them. To top it off, the AC was on so high it was freezing in there. Sadly, I don't think we'll be returning. Just want to update this review. Was pleasantly surprised that management at the 99 contacted me for my input and to try to make up for the above experience. It shows they care and are trying to make things better! I will be giving them another chance! One more update. Gave the 99 another try this weekend and it was a totally different experience! The food was good and so was the service! And I didn't need to wear the sweatshirt I brought in with me! Good job turning things around! read more

We love this place one of our favorite places to go for comfort food I love the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes corn and cranberry sauce (not homemade) it would be nice to have the fresh cranberry sauce to be made homemade it's so easy. Honestly, I've been going to the 99's for years; I feel they could be so good yet they are sub par. The menu changes WAY too often, and the food isn't that great. I got the Vermont Cheddar Burger and my boyfriend got the Skins & Wings. It was just ehh, like frozen food just warmed up. What truly set me off today was our waitress. Hello, you are in Customer Service so #1 start smiling ! She was so not pleasant, like who spit in your Cheerios this am? From there, she didn't clear plates or cups, HUGE PET PEEVE ! Then finally, took about 15 minutes to get our check and about another 10 to get it rung up. So yeaaaah, won't be returning due to ehh food and horrible customer service ! read more

A Westerner's view on 99: I expected this place to be like your run of the mill Applebee's, or TGIFriday's or some such. I was pleasantly surprised at my first visit and thought it was actually a good bit better. Something delightfully different is that you get a bowl of popcorn at the beginning of your meal. You New England folk probably don't find this as fascinating as I do, but I have never seen popcorn given pre meal. Chips and salsa? Sure. Bread/rolls? A boring staple. Whole peanuts where you can throw the shells on the floor? Absolutely. But popcorn? A nice, simple, and different treat. I liked it! My wife and I both had salads. I had the tropical chicken and the wife had the fiesta. Both were great, with a good amount of chicken, and around $11 a plate. Very affordable, with some good flavors throughout. I was tempted to go with the lobster roll, but teetering over 1k calories and dozens of grams of fat (the hot buttered roll is just under 100grams... NO JOKE) I decided I had better not. I think I will try the plain cold lobster salad which has much less fat and is a bit healthier next time. Overall please. We had been putting off coming here since we really don't fancy chains such as Applebee's, but I am sure we will come again. Service was friendly and food was fast to boot! read more

Came to the 99 to get some lunch, and it was great. The staff was lovely and everything was nice and neat. The food was delicious everything came out fairly fast. Just an overall great experience only downside the server never appeared after she gave us the bill, we were waiting and just left all cash in the end to leave. read more

Fun place to drink, pretty much always busy. The food is the same as at all of the Nines stores -- solid and dependable, if a little overpriced. The Salem store has always been staffed by competent, somewhat friendly bartenders (they're always on the move, so not a lot of chitchat, which is fine by me). A couple of years ago, I guess, this place knocked down a wall and the renovation has really improved the atmosphere, though it's still a reliable, generally family-friendly, sports-oriented bar and grill. People of any age should feel right at home. Probably more of a 3.5. read more

Was staying at a hotel near by so the guy and I decided we'd stop here for dinner before venturing off to the merrimack outlets. We were sat quickly in a comfortable booth where they provide hooks to hang up your belongings. Major points in my book when little details like that are added to make a guest dine in expierience more comfortable. For apps we started with the bruschetta flatbread and ultimate nachos. The bruschetta flatbread was delish, and the balsamic drizzle they put on top really took that dish all the way. The nachos were alright. Nothing really stood out with those. For entrées I decided on the black bean burger and the guy got the bruschetta chicken dinner with a side of coleslaw. Black bean burger had a nice kick to it. Full a flavor and the guacamole they put on top was a delicious addition. Thumbs up for the vegeterian conscious section to the menu! Guy didn't leave a grain of rice on his plate allowing me to safely assume he enjoyed his food as well. Unfortunately the waitress we had didn't offer us dessert but instead brought us to go boxes and asked if we needed anything else. I felt a bit rushed but that didn't stop me me from ordering there most popular dessert, towering midnight fudge cake. Oreos baked in a brownie served over vanilla bean icecream. just YUM!! YUMMY!!! Food was great, generously portioned, and well priced. Lunch for 3 with an appetizer and sodas was less than $40 and we had a little box to take home. The waitress was attentive, the manager a little loopy when I asked a question about a soup. I don't think they deal with such questions regularly. Overall, a better option than Chili's, TGI Friday's, Uno's, or Friendly's. read more

They are not good at cooking steak tips at this location. They are always undercooked. It has gotten to the point where I go to the Haverhill, MA 99 instead. The taste and seasoning of the steak is great at both locations, but the Salem, NH location never cooks it properly. read more

Being from the New England area, the 99 is one of my favorite restaurants back home. My favorite entrees: cheese and crackers (they are that good), the broiled sirloin tips, and the potato skins (has always been my favorite appetizer). Typical 99 Pub Food...its ok but I would rather go to one of the million middle eastern restaurants around here. Due to its proximity to the malls, its usually pretty packed and you will usually have to wait. The food is average as you know, so obvi if you are in the area just drive up and down 28 til you find something better. read more

This restaurant took my parents debit card and double charged them. Then they used their debit card information and charged someone else's order on their card. They are aware of this and have not reversed the charge as of today. My father is 88 years old and the restaurant staff have treated him horribly and dishonestly. They need to credit his account, pronto, before their 41 dollar 'error' causes him a heart attack. 88 years old and a customer for decades, do the right thing. If I didn't live 3,000 miles away I'd be in front with a sign until you did right by him. The manager should be ashamed of himself. read more

It would appear from our visit tonight that the 99's has increased prices AND reduced portion sizes. Ordered the steak tips and chicken tenders. Had 2 tenders and 2 steak tips cut into 4 pieces and the price was $15. We will be more careful in future to support businesses that aren't taking out their anquish on their customers. 99's would do well to remember they are only reheating food sent to them by corporate. It comes from a box, frozen and almost none of the food is prepared fresh. They should charge accordingly. I lived the management! They were very courteous. But the waitress we had was not tentive to us or people around ys! I had a simple order soup and salad and Was not impressed by the way she TOLD ME rather then letting me know the changes with the specific salad! As said by the waitress! She passed us multiple times and never once asked if we were good or if she could get us anything else! Sorry to say we were super disappointed. We called in for take out and ordered salads with salmon and my husband wanted the gold fever tenders. Omg. The tenders looked horrible and actually already been eaten! You could see the teeth marks! Yuck!!! So gross! The salmon was stinky and obviously had passed its freshness. I gave two stars because I used to really like the 99. It's been a while since going there. Perhaps it's going downhill due to management and/or bad kitchen staff. Food was ok but the place was crowded and loud. Our waitress must have been high. She was acting weird and slammed our plates down onto the table. She was just...weird. I went here and ordered fish and chips. There was something very off about the oil and/or the fish that was used, because the dish smelled awful. The waitress never asked how my meal was, and didn't ask if anything was wrong when I refused a doggy bag for what was essentially a full plate of food.
