In this case, I was definitely late to the party. Got to stop by this past weekend before they shut their doors and I'm actually so glad I did. It seems I'm never in town anymore but running into a random post about Scuffins made me wake my friend up at 6:30am and head down to Kakaako from Mililani. They had opened at 8am, we were there at 7 and there was already a line about 10 people deep. Not sure why I decided to write this review but hopefully if the Owner is a yelper, they can see how much their community is going to feel the impact of their closure. We had noticed their very energetic Employees remembered not only names but orders. In fact, they were cranking out orders before their regulars even made it to the Register. That's impressive and yet pulls at the heartstrings a bit. The Scuffins were every bit of delicious and noteworthy as all the previous reviewers stated. My favorite being the Oreo and of course the bacon, cheddar. I was actually upset that i took a bite outside of the shop and didn't get more. By that time there was an easy 30-35 people in line lol. The black sesame latte was very unique to me and although i don't think i would order it again, I'm glad I got to try it here. Maybe the Owner will do popup's with the Scuffins, one can hope and dream. In the mean time, just wanted to send my love out to the Staff at this beautiful space, and wish them the best in their new Chapter of life. read more

I and my husband decided to have light breakfast. Located in Salt at Kaka'ako, this cozy place is always busy. But staff are friendly, professional, and kind. Order was very smooth at the counter and they serve us to the table. They have both inside and outside tables. We ordered Bacon Cheddar Chive Scone, Strawberry Mango Cream cheese Scone, hot Cafe Latte, and Iced Cafe Latte. Shortly, our order came. Scorns are crumble freaky and yummy!!! I'll sure miss this place when they close next month in July 2026 especially their yummy scuffins which is like a scone/muffin! Scuffins and the other desserts are baked daily and if you're lucky enough to go early in the morning then you get what you want. I just love the cheddar, bacon & chive scuffins and the matcha with white chocolate or the everything scuffin with cream cheese were good too! A lot customers come here for their morning coffee or drink. My work friend was going to treat me a dessert recently for my birthday but I requested this instead since they are closing soon and got to get 2 of my bacon, cheddar & chive scuffins!! HOOOO their bacon cheddar biscuit is da best ever. I always get this one. The matcha biscuit, also slay. Not too sweet, very balanced. HEAT IT UP. The white chocolate becomes ooey gooey and melts into the biscuit while the chips on top stay crispy. I just wish the matcha flavor was stronger. I got a hot black sesame latte and it was so good, I could really taste the black sesame! The drink itself was smooth as well since sometimes when black sesame drinks are made, they can get a bit gritty. They do have a cold option as well. When we went in there, the baristas and cashier were cool and friendly! I asked whether the flavor is strong with hot or cold and they gave a definite answer! My sister got the Cloud 9 trio which is an espresso, cortado and a choice for the third one of either a sparkling drink, cold brew or something else I don't remember. My sister got the cold brew. IT'S A LOT OF CAFFEINE so prepare yourself, coming from the person who got a non-caffeine drink. Atmosphere - Your typical coffee shop vibes with a few tables and the mix of people working on their laptops at a table, some people talking and drinking their drinks and people coming to grab a drink and head out. They do have bar seating when you walk into the right. I don't remember how many people but at least 4 seats. Service - Cool and friendly, they know their drinks. Cost - My black sesame latte was around $7 - 9 and the cloud 9 trio was around $9 - $12. I don't exactly remember so that's the range accounting for if you tip. Parking - It's in SALT so you can park in the structure or do metered street parking. Location - In SALT around the corner from Morning Brew, right under the SALT sign. Every Saturday, my hubby and I have the wonderful decision to make about whether or not to eat breakfast out. There are times we want something hearty but there are other Saturdays when a cup of Joe with pastries is the perfect answer. When pastries tug on us, 9Bar HNL is always a candidate on the list of choices for us. Located in SALT Kakaako, there's lots of parking paid in the lot and in the street. They have limited indoor and outdoor seating. But, there is outdoor seating all over the SALT complex. Service is wonderfully patient, friendly and helpful. What a nice way to start our weekend morning! The ambiance? It's a coffee shop where people are enjoying a delightful start to their day with good food, coffee, and conversation with the sounds and aroma of coffee preparation in the air. We love the scuffin! What's a scuffin? It's the merge of a scone and a muffin! The scuffins are not too sweet. It's just right for us. All of their flavors are wonderful. I typically go for the sweet and hubby likes the savory. So, we get to taste the best of both worlds! Cream cheese you say? I have tried almost all of their scuffins with cream cheese but personally, when I can't make a decision I choose blueberry or mango. I love my scuffin warm. It's soft on the inside but I love the slightly crunchy edges! For my better half, his fav is the bacon scuffin. He truly believes everything is better with bacon. They also have a chocolate sandwich cookie filled with peanut butter. That calls me every time I see it. I have not tried, yet. So tempting but I am trying to be good by limiting myself to one pastry per week. I will have to give in (maybe during Christmas) sometime soon. Every single time I come here I always feel welcomed by the staff and they're always attentive and helping you with a smile. I really appreciate that and it's one of the reasons I enjoy coming here over the other cafe options at SALT (there are many). My go-to is definitely the scuffins, and from my experience their drinks have also been well-made. I have tried their matcha and regular latte and have never been disappointed! I noticed a lot of locals come here as regulars. I definitely also see myself as a regular here as well lol. read more

Im a huge lover of Hojicha lattes (roasted green tea) whether it's here or in Japan! This is my first review of 9bar but not my first time here and definitely won't be my last! Located at SALT, they changed parking in the structure and outside lot from ticketing to camera monitoring. You'll have to pay online using a QR code and use QR validation as well. They monitor via license plate--but not sure what happens if you don't have one. Service is wonderful, everyone is friendly and seems to know the regulars on a first name basis! They're also so efficient and helpful with the menu if you need suggestions. I just returned last week from Japan and was missing my daily hojicha lattes, so I stopped by here in the morning and ordered it iced with half sweetness and oat milk. Also grabbed a matcha and white chocolate scruffin which was warmed and delicious. Definitely satisfied the cravings. It's a small space with a few tables and counter seating. Good to study, can get a bit chilly, music choice is great but can get a bit loud like any cafe. When you're done, make sure to do your part and take care of your trash while returning any cups to the cart. read more

The person taking our order didn't seem to have any knowledge about the summer flavors. The barista was giving us the description of the flavors. We ordered the Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwich. No depth of flavor with the cookies, but it was soft. The peanut butter was faint. It wasn't worth the mo ey spent. We also got the bacon and Chive scone. This was pretty good, soft and flavor. For our drinks, we ordered the summer specials: orange dreamsicle latte and the blueberry lemon white mocha. Now. This was sad. Not only was it expensive for the 8oz, but the coffee lacked flavor. We couldn't take taste any orange or cream in the dreamscile latter, it tasted like a regular latte. As for the blueberry lemon white mocha, it was a weird combination. When the barista explained, she said the blueberry and lemon were faint flavors. However, the blueberry was nonexistent and the lemon overshadowed the coffee flavor. I love a nerdy coffee shop. You know...serious baristas who are doing things like heating your espresso cup with hot water, measuring the grounds and timing the pull. 9Bar HNL is such a location. Located in the interior courtyard of Salt Kaka'ako these are coffee nerds delivering high quality pour over and espresso drinks in a relaxed and lovely setting. It's a perfect stop before or after brunch/lunch. Don't sleep on their baked goods. I was recently enchanted by an oatmeal raisin cookie that clearly was made by magical beings...probably a coven of benevolent witches working with unicorns. One of my new favorite coffee shops in town, 9Bar has never disappointed. Not only are their scuffins the most wonderful thing that have ever hit my tastebuds, but their drinks are magnificent and the service is wonderful as well. I only ever go for their scuffins (Bacon Cheddar Chive is superior), but on weekends it's now one of my go-to spots to study, since they're open later until 2pm. They have free wifi, outlets, a few tables and a shared bathroom in SALT making it an automatic yes in my book for great places to do work/study from. I was torn between the matcha latte, which my friends said was amazing, or the Black Sesame Latte, and the guy behind the register, Daniel gave great recs and I ultimately decided on the black sesame with oat milk. It was absolutely delicious - it had a strong nutty flavor without being overwhelming, and it was subtly sweet and creamy. They also have day old scuffins sometimes for $3, which is a steal since they're normally $4.50 ($4.75 for the bacon cheddar and everything bagel seasoning). I go on Sundays because street parking is free - otherwise, they have validation in SALT. read more

Located at SALT in Kakaako- there's free 1 hour parking in the SALT garage and I believe that they will validate if you plan on staying in. It can get a bit crowded, but if there isn't any room to sit inside, there's plenty of outdoor seating around SALT. I ordered an iced black sesame latte which normally comes without coffee, but I added a double shot of espresso to it. The black sesame has a rich nutty flavor that is also a bit sweet- balancing out the espresso. I also ordered one of their scuffins, their scone a muffin hybrid. I got their ensaymada scuffin-- I hadn't heard of ensaymada before but they had me at "whipped butter and sugar". So, it's a savory scuffin topped with a whipped butter and sugar icing. It's savory and sweet and reminded me of a scone at high tea with whipped butter! I came into 9Bar for a pick-me-up after an unfortunate miscommunication had me in the area a day earlier than I needed to be. But seriously, all the animosity and stress from my morning melted away the moment I walked in and got such a genuine welcome with eye contact and a "good morning" from the barista. Let this be a testament that you never know what a person is going through and the simplest of kind gestures can really go a long way. We had some time after breakfast and decided to stop by 9Bar for some coffee which is located at SALT at Kaka'ako. We quickly found street parking nearby and made our way to this little coffee shop. The shop is on the smaller side and had a line when we walked in. Good indication of what was to come, perhaps. I walked up to the register and took a photo of the menu, but then realized later that the menu is also pasted on the 'tables' which makes it easier for guests to decide while standing in line. They have a small, but rather interesting menu with unique items I haven't seen elsewhere like espresso tonic and kinako latte. These items fall under their "adventurous" offerings and well, I'm always down. I don't normally get matcha, but their matchagato had me at condensed milk ice cream. Aaaand what the heck, I'm obsessed. The condensed milk gelato was so perfect and flavor came through so well. It paired wonderfully with the match and I loved it so much that I whipped out the ice cream maker and been making my own condensed milk ice cream matchagatos pretty much every night since then. And while I had every intention of getting a "pick-me-up", I ended up also getting the black sesame latte 'cause ya know, why not. It was very nutty and unique and I enjoyed it despite not having caffeine. All in all, we enjoyed this little spot and I would stop by here again next time I'm in town, especially for the matchagato.
