This was on my wife's bucket list for their scuffins; scuffins are a mix between scones and muffins. I chose a bacon and chives masterpiece that was as good as it sounds. Located at Salt Kakaako, right when you exit the parking garage. Cute little coffee shop! Had their Iced Matcha green tea latte.. loved that they ask you if you want it unsweetened or sweet because lots of places automatically sweeten it. I like it unsweetened! Went with my husband after a workout at Orangetheory, and wanted to try their breakfast bowls! So we got the Aloha Bowl and the Cali Bowl. The Aloha bowl had sausage and kimchi in it and my husband cleaned his bowl! I think he liked it . I had the Cali bowl and the bacon was crispy and on point. The guacamole was really good with everything in the bowl. I will definitely come back to have this again and also try more items in their menu. Located in SALT, 9Bar is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops!! Lots of seating inside or out in the courtyard. There is also parking in the SALT structure or street parking. I really like the nitro cold brew and the bacon/cheddar/chives scuffin (scone/muffin)! I have also tried the Aloha bowl, great if you need a larger breakfast or brunch. One of these days, I will try one of the lattes and maybe a sweet scuffin (so hard though, since I LOVE bacon and the savory scuffin lol!) The next thing that i would love for is for this place to start a loyalty program! Maybe a virtual stamp card that keeps track of points by phone number?? Located in SALT of kakaako. This is a good go to for breakfast. I'm a savory kind of breakfast person so I love the Cali bowl! It's a bowl of roasted potatoes, sour cream, guacamole, poached eggs, cilantro, cotija cheese and crispy bacon. It also comes with a side of salsa. Everything is very good all together. They also have the best scuffins (scone/muffins), the texture of them is perfect. It's dense but it's still light at the same time, very soft with a lightly crisp outside. I like the savory one, and the matcha scuffin the best. Go check them out! Update: the forkwich is perfect because it pretty much has everything the Cali bowl includes (no potatoes) but it comes with a savory scuffin. You can also change up the protein. I usually get the bacon, but their homemade sausage patty is very flavorful and I have yet to try their chicken carnitas. If you like kinako get their latte, I usually substitute with oat milk. It's not overly sweet, very creamy from the oat milk and there's a slight nuttiness from the kinako as well. So yummy! read more

I love how coffee culture has really developed over the years in Honolulu and 9Bar HNL is a great example of a small business that offers up a stellar product with great service. Yes, it's pricey, but you really are paying for a quality product that's artfully made. Awesome coffee is not cheap, and this isn't the same as a cup of Joe from 7-11. On my last two visits I enjoyed their Cloud 9 Trio (espresso, cortado, sparkling water) and their Bulletproof coffee (coffee blended with coconut oil and grass fed butter.) Both were caffeine laced heaven and I finished multiple work projects, cleaned my house, and ran a marathon all in an afternoon. Probably the closest I'll ever get to the pill from Limitless, but I'll take it! Great spot to get stuff done, meet-up with friends and simply geek out on coffee. I would have never stopped in this place based on the name. But my friends keep coming back for a quick breakfast, so I had to check it out. A small coffee spot tucked in the block of Salt Kakaako (I don't know why they named it "Salt" either). I mainly come here for the food. There's basically 4 food items on the menu and a bunchy of freshly baked goods on the counter display for your choosing. My go-to is the Aloha Bowl, basically because it's the most Asian one out of the 4. It's a bowl, start with rice, homemade sausage patty, two poached eggs, cucumber kim chee and regular kim chee. And I usually forego the queso. I've also had the other bowl, that one is small potatoes, bacon, poached eggs with queso on top. I've had a sit down meal here twice. And those are the only times I've ordered drinks. Once I had the macha latte almond milk. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. The other time I had a regular coffee. It was pretty good coffee! I don't usually enjoy black coffee unless it's darn good coffee. It took a while for me to have realized that it was just their basic brew. I would return just to chill and enjoy breakfast with coffee here again. My biggest woe about this place is that they use plastic.. plastic bowls, covers, forks, knives, spoons even when dinning in. I understand it's a tiny kitchen and that would mean extra help for cleaning and cost to purchase bowls and cutlery stuff. But can we all hope for more eco friendly material items?! Or even if we bring our own in? Maybe just me? The bake goods are made in-house, fresh. There's a variety of muffins, mochi, cookies. The flavors tend to change based on seasonal ingredients. I'm a sucker for mochi, but they don't always have the macha one. The staff is always friendly, the service isn't slow. And the food is good, but the coffee is excellent! I'm absolutely obsessed with 9Bar HNL. After almost a year of searching for the perfect iced hazelnut latte in Hawaii, I finally found it! And the place serves burritos.... what could be better? I have to admit, I was surprised when a coworker told me about this place. Especially when she told me it was a coffee shop that serves burritos. But my concern was completely unfounded. I had without a doubt the best carnitas on the island here. They were moist yet crispy, flavorful but no spice overpowered each other, and just fatty enough. Unreal! The homemade salsa has a little kick to it and definitely adds something to the flavor profile. Today, I tried the breakfast bowl. It was good, but nothing compared to the burritos. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly. And the bacon was a thick slab and crispy. I also love the roasted potatoes. I think my disappointment with it has more to do with thinking it would be basically a burrito bowl. Now don't get me wrong, I would definitely order it again. But burritos would definitely be my first choice. And last but not least the latte. I am a self professed hazelnut latte snob. I love them iced and hot, but living in Hawaii basically requires me to consume iced. The hazelnut latte here is done perfectly. I've only been here 4 times and every time they deliver. My new favorite go to drink is the "jump start latte" made with almond milk. It's espresso, MCT oil, and grass fed butter. It has a nice rich taste to it and no bite at all. My second favorite is the nitro brew with condensed milk gelato. It's like bougie affogado which reminds me of Korea (of all places) and is all things good. My son likes their chocolate milk with toasted mallow. As for the food, I've had the Aloha bowl the first time I went which is a spin on a Korean rice bowl, like a breakfast bibimbap. The sausage is so yummy. I would be lying if I said the Cali bowl was good, because my son eyeballed it and said he's never tried the Cali bowl. But, he gave it a thumbs up and said "best bacon and avocado and potatoes. Ever. Oh! There's sour cream in here too!" So this is where the granola comes in. I ended up eating his granola bowl. It was good. I really like cinnamon and this definitely had lots of cinnamon and was drizzled with honey over yogurt. I'm not sure if the yogurt is homemade but it was not tangy or sour at all. They also have breakfast bowls and breakfast burritos. They are also known for their various coffee drinks but I'm not a coffee drinker. Came here to to pick up some scones and a small latte. I love scones so much and I am so happy to find this place. I got the blueberry scone and a mango and strawberry scone. The scones were fluffy on the inside but crispy on the edges. They also had the perfect amount of sweetness. My favorite of the two scones was the mango and strawberry. They use actual fruit slices in the scone but it is not dry at all. When I tasted the sweet mango with the fluffy scone in one bite, I was in heaven! The downside is that due to covid there are not many seating but Salt has a lot of tables you can use. Service was great and i would definitely be back for more scones! read more

Every time we landed on a new island on our 4 island tour, we checked into the Yelp app to see if there was any good "craft coffee pour over" places. Because if they do pour overs, they probably know how to do a proper cappuccino or something similar. 9Bar HNL came up and we headed there based on the photos of the cloud 9 trio. I was able to get the Cali bowl and it was fantastic. The place isn't huge and it really isn't a "breakfast stop". But it is THE place to go in Hawaii....yes, I said Hawaii, for quality espresso. They only have a a granola bowl, a burrito, and two bowls apart from their pastries and some of the most delicious coffee EVER, but I have got to tell you the eggs were perfectly poached and the kim chi was to die for. The aloha bowl comes with homemade sausage patty, rice with furikake, pickled cucumber and a tiny bit of the most delicious kim chi in the land. I wanted to ask for a vat to take home with me - it was that good! And my breve was amazing. Beautiful foam and a nice deep, rich flavor served in a comfy porcelain mug and with a side of sparkling on a beautiful tray. Free wifi and just the cutest, friendly folks! Noon for lunch and we walked around finally settling at 9Bar. I figured we'd give it a shot as exploring new patrons to SALT at kakaako. Our first experience was a good one at pitch sports bar and grill, so we figured why not try something new. Upon entering the space is comfortable. Not too wide, not too tight of a space, but the ambience and environment of people are chill, friendly, and welcoming. I ordered the burrito with bacon, no cilantro, no red onions; with a yuzu soda (i was given a sample before committing to buy it, which was a bonus). My girlfriend had ordered the bowl with the homemade sausage (which I also recommend checking out). My experience was a 5/5, being the fact they were able to answer our questions without hesitation, and was well knowledgeable of all items on the menu. read more

Honestly super sad that I couldn't rate this place higher because the staff is so nice but this has got to be the worst coffee I have ever tasted in my entire life. Tried for the first time a few months ago, asked for a salted caramel sort of drink and they said they could make something like that. tasted like legit sea water. Undrinkable. I really love coming to this new spot in Salt because 1) It's across the street from where I live so it's super convenient! 2) I'm addicted to their Cali Bowl and their burrito. And 3) These breakfast items are served all day in addition to their yummy coffee beverages. I have yet to try their granola bowl and their pastries, but each time I drop in, I can't resist their Cali bowl. It comes with huge thick slices of really good quality bacon, potatoes that are so yum, poached eggs which always seem to come out perfect (you know, with the runny yolk!), guacamole, sour cream, queso fresco, and a side of salsa. I'll be honest, I never use the salsa, but I hear it's good. It's kind of too spicy for me, so if you're not into heat, watch out! If you dine in and order a coffee beverage, your cup of joe comes on a cute little wooden tray with an equally cute little spoon and a glass of sparkling water. Parking- street or in the parking structure, 1st hour free with validation. Menu is quite extensive. Foods and many drinks. We came here for just a drink. We knew we didn't want coffee. What caught my eye was the matcha green tea latte. It was hot day but I like drinking my matcha hott. 2 sizes offered. I got 12oz. Pretty presentation served on a wooden platter paired with small glass of spritzer water. The water~ I don't get it, but My friend said it's to clean your pallet. I'm like, Ok?!? Matcha was warm room temperature. Can't say I liked it, but I prefer hott. There was some powered tea that wasn't in mixed well, and it was yuck. Hence, temperature wasn't hot enough.. Anyways, staff was ok, I didn't feel welcomed. I don't even recall them greeting us when we entered the shop. As for ambiance.. music good but was a a tad too loud, seating space in shop was too close for comfort. I don't think it's a good place to do studying. Anyways, next visit, I'd try a food item instead. Maybe that redemption could bring up this review to 4 stars. read more

We come here every weekend for breakfast. Their green tea scuffins are perfection. They are sweet, crispy, and just perfect! We also generally share a Cali bowl with sausage or carnitas which is big enough to share and topped well with a generous helping of mildly spicy salsa. Now for the reason I'm writing: My son loves rainbow everything, and was very disappointed one morning when his birthday cake scuffin was unavailable. He cried (as four year olds do). Tracy (the owner I presume) heard him crying and personally made him a small scuffin. His face was priceless when he saw it. I hope this business lasts a very long time and brings Tracy and her family as much joy as our family breakfasts at 9 bar have brought us. We will return as always next week for more. read more

This is a great spot for brunch and a place to catch up with friends. When I first passed by and read the sign I assumed it was a late night joint with the word "bar" in it. I have been meaning to try the place but what prompted me was that my friend wanted brunch food and it popped up on Yelp as one of the top selections nearby. Seeing the picture of the bowls and lattes was the deciding factor. 9Bar HNL is located in Salt at Kakaako right across from the elevators/bathrooms on the first floor. They offer a selection of pastries such as scones and flavored mochi as well as tons of drinks such as lattes, teas, and even chocolate milk. I got the chocolate milk with toasted marshmallows for how pretty the drink looked and the nostalgia. It tasted liked the Yoo-hoo drink with nicely torched mallows. My friend enjoyed her latte which came with a side of sparkling water. I was eyeing out the Aloha Bowl just because the fish patty sounded good along with the various sides. The fish party tasted great along with the sides of cabbage and cucumber kimchee. Everything was on top a bed of furikake rice. The poached eggs were good as well but the yolks was a bit overwhelming in flavor. My friend ordered ordered the CA bowl and they were out of bacon at the time so she got sausage instead. Their guacamole was great. 9 bar also offers weekend specials such as coffee brews and brunch bowls. Next time I'll definitely stop by to grab a pastry because they all looked delicious. SCUFFIN. WHAT IS IT? MAGIC? I love scones but not when they're SUPER hard and I love muffins but not when they're too squishy - this is the magic middle. Like a muffin top but with a crunchy toasted outside. Every flavor I've tried has been amazing - Matcha White chocolate being my favorite. And ALOHA PALMER - It's simple, iced tea, pog and sparkling soda but it's so perfect. The iced tea they use is amazing and that's why I can't make it the same at home. My boyfriend is a fan of the housemade sausage in the burrito, the burrito comes with a GIANT TAMAGO LOG inside it which is amazing, and okinawan sweet potatoes and it works. The salsa makes it imo. Scuffins, oh my god the scuffins. SCONE MUFFINS!!! Literally, I ate one (strawberry mango TO DIE FOR!), and came back the next day and bought one of every flavor... then came back again for just 1. The space itself is cozy and perfect for a little getaway from work. Breakfast burritos r excellent especially with the sauce. There was a line to order even though I called in my order. This tiny place in Kakaako was packed which is proof of their popularity. We also bought a couple of scones which were equally as good. It's not cheap but u get good value. They have an assortment of day old scones at a discount which I did not try but will get those next time. Once I got to the head of the line, it was fast and I got my entire order. The other people waiting on the side must not have called in their order. There is metered parking on the auahi street that is closer to this business than the paid lot off of Nimitz. As I was driving on Auahi Street recently, the sign to this new business piqued my interest as I was on my way to my usual stop around the corner for coffee. I took advantage of one of the many available metered parking stalls out front, and went in for my daily dose of caffeine, and something to eat. 9Bar HNL is located in the SALT complex in Kakaako, across the street from the Coral Commercial Center. When I walked in, I liked how everything was so new and clean. There is a small showcase of baked goods sitting atop the main counter, and a big menu board behind the baristas. The area is spacious, with a TV mounted above the front door. A little odd to have it mounted there, but it works. I had a simple cup of black coffee, and a matcha and white chocolate scruffin. The coffee was a super smooth medium blend with no bitterness whatsoever. As for the scruffin, I honestly couldn't taste the matcha tea in it the same way I could the white chocolate. Not to say this is bad. I just would have preferred it to be the other way around. I enjoyed the coffee, so I'm definitely going back to try one of their other drinks. read more
