Blood soaked chicken bone. I think it's called the 9th Ave Special chicken wings for $15
    Amanda G.

I started going to 9th Ave Rock House about a month ago without issue and always had a good time. I described the karaoke bar as "oddly discrete". However, last weekend I went with my black friend (I say this detail because it's pertinent to the review) and had a terrible experience. We sat at the bar, and from the start the bartender was giving my friend a lot of attitude and spoke to him very rudely. I'm from South Florida and lived in Hawaii for many years, so I know racism when I see or experience it. I asked him if he wanted to move, but he was fine sitting at the bar (he is from Alabama, so he knows racism too). The compromise was that I would order for him to minimize the contact with her. We ordered drinks, sang some songs ($1 per song), and ordered the chicken wings. My friend noticed a couple wings with blood soaked bones, so he mentioned it to the bartender. That was the tipping point for her, I think. The owner came out said that he would comp the wings. However when the bill came the wings were still on the check ($15). I just paid and tipped, since I don't like to make a big deal. As we were standing up to leave the bar, she started saying things to us under her breath. Then spoke a little louder complaining that we complained about the wings (even though we ended up paying for them). She throws her arms in the air, signaling us to leave and says rudely "you should just leave!" - despite the fact we were already leaving. This experience was so upsetting to me, more than my friend. He kept saying, it's okay. But it's not okay. We live at a time that we tolerate people with their individual beliefs and are told to take the higher ground. But the bartender was unprofessional, disrespectful, and rude. I don't know if she was racist, but she definitely came across that way. I will never go here again. Unless, of course, I was able to go with 5 black guys to come sit at the bar with me. After all it is 2019, not 1955.

Had a blast there with a bunch of friends! The joint is small. There's a parking lot. Drinks were pretty cheap. No cover. No direct fee for karaoke but if you tip the karaoke guy your song will be moved closer to the top of the queue. We closed down the place. At the end there was a dude who totally sounded like Steve Perry. I'm not a Journey fan but it was cool.

This place is another little hole in the wall, but this hole has karaoke :) It's not a karaoke room, it's a karaoke bar. Anyone can sing and they have a wide selection of songs. The usual bartender sings amazingly and makes really good drinks. Their food is cheap, but it's well worth it. The buffalo fries are amazing and their fried chicken wings are so good I usually order some to go. Drinks are a little on the cheaper side as well. I'm giving it four stars only because the place is really small, and if you don't know the people who run the place, sometimes you can be forgotten about. But it doesn't hurt to stretch your legs to get up and go to the bar.

I'd tell ya but...well this place is too small for ALL of us to fit in it. :-) This is a home away from home for many regulars. Please do not yell or talk into the microphone...that means you, drunk people!! Or drop it!! LOL Thank you in advance!! If you're having fun, even if you're not the greatest singer, it's ok!! Love the staff and the food is ono!!

You want some? Garlic fry heaven.

BF and I were in the mood for some Karaoke so we found this place on YELP and tried to call but there was no answer so we decided to got to Karaoke Hut instead. Big mistake. We went to Karaoke Hut and were so disappointed (I'll post a review for them next) that we ended up here anyhow. We are glad we tried it out. It's a small bar with parking in the back. Be aware that the parking lot appears as though it is for the apartment building adjacent to the lot but it is not. Do not park in the lot for the businesses across the street. I heard that the WILL and DO tow. Upon entering there were a few people who appeared to be "regulars" at the bar and one bartendress who acknowledged and greeted us immediately. The service was really good, drink prices and selection were decent. No beer on tap which is our favorite but of course not to be expected at this type of smaller establishment. The selection of songs in the song book were good. Not overwhelming in quantity but we didn't have trouble finding any of the songs we were looking for. What I appreciated about this place was the quality of the sound system AND of the actual karaoke system. Having just come from a place which was lame by comparison, we were definitely impressed. Karaoke is 1. a song and we didn't have to write them down. The guy controlling the system was actually in a seat so close to us that we just yelled out the song name and he was on it. He was awesome. The restroom was CLEAN! Nice job for a small bar. Couple of mentionables: 1. The owner is a musician thus has an affinity for good quality "stuff" when it comes to music which would explain the quality of the sound system, microphone, accurate music volumes...etc. 2. The garlic fries were so good and plentiful! It appears that their food prices are very reasonable; we will be back to try different things from the pupu menu. 3. The reason they didn't answer the phone is because they don't have one. The bartendress says that their business is mostly patronized by "regulars". So don't try to call. Overall, the service was EXCELLENT and the entire feeling of the place is really good. Truly a place run by those who give a darned about their business. Aloha in the air. I'm a fan.

Small but nice bar filled with nice people. The karaoke sound system is good with a wonderful selection of songs. The food is good as well.

As soon as we walked in, the staff welcomed us with great energy and were incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night. The karaoke setup was fantastic with a huge song selection and a great sound system that made everyone sound like a star. Whether you're a confident singer or just singing for fun, the crowd and staff make you feel comfortable getting up on stage. One thing that really stood out was the food--it was absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and way better than what you'd normally expect from a bar. The food alone makes this place worth visiting. Between the incredible staff, the fun karaoke atmosphere, and the delicious food, this place is easily one of the best spots for a night out. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to have a great time with good music, great people, and amazing food. I'll definitely be coming back! When you come look for Basa, Hannah, jojo, Brit and Christina they will take good care of you.

A gem hidden in plain sight…read more My friends and I spontaneously wanted to sing karaoke on a Saturday night. I obviously didn't plan this lol So we called a few places and I remembered seeing Hawaii Voice on the news and I was always inteigued about the experience of this place. We called and they could accommodate us right away. We headed there and they had the beautiful room all ready to go. The room was huge and clean! Decorations were colorful and bright. The couches were very comfortable and clean. The TVs were HUGE! They were the biggest screens I've ever had for karaoke. The system has plenty of features, and for some, it may be "too much". They offer they're own karaoke catalog system, an older karaoke system (no videos, just lyrics), and YouTube was also integrated. One of the karaoke systems was cool cause you could see the music videos and can sing along. The only thing we noticed for some songs, the synchronization of music and lyrics were off so just make sure you know the song, otherwise, you're gonna be a beat behind. Also, the YouTube system didn't allow ANY song to be sung. The system didn't support some well-known karaoke channels because of the video formats. Lastly, the choice of Japanese songs was bare, but that's not really a problem if you don't sing Japanese songs. They have drinks and food, but we only ordered drinks because we already ate...and we like alcohol. They had a fairly good selection for hards and beers. Sorry, I cannot give an opinion on food. Staff is awesome. We met the owner and he treated us so well. To squeeze us in on a Saturday was a treat, and also a lesson to us on better planning (well, my friends, not me because this wouldn't have happened lol). If you wanna sing karaoke with friends and let out some energy, give this place a try! It's beautiful and will make any karaoke experience fun!

A hidden secret…read more Our plans for private karaoke room at our usual spot was filled so this is the reason we are here at Cafe Den Mau. I've been here twice and my opinion it was fun but very interesting place. Recommended by my older brother who frequents Cafe Den Mau often. Located at the Yee Hop Plaza on North King Street, same building as Hawaii Dim Sum & Seafood, (after our dinner there) we went straight up to the 2nd floor. Note getting to Cafe Den Mau is a little sketchy, scary in the building but once you arrive its not as bad after all. hehe. You will enter a long corridor, the 2nd floor looks abandoned, old, but there are other businesses in this plaza. The size of Cafe Den Mau is small but perfect, there are a few tables, even a stage with disco lights, drums, and piano. Kind of like in Vietnam although I haven't been but this is what I heard from another customer. husband Jimmy and wife team runs the karaoke spot from 9-2 am nightly. ( best to call if you plan to visit, have questions, or would like to reserve a table or private party.) limited drinks, mostly beer and wine are available, free to bring wine with a fee. ( $20.-30) per bottle. We brought 3 bottles during my first visit with my siblings. You can also bring pupus. Selecting songs are easy, all digital. All songs are available, both our visits, seems like we all were happy with selecting our song choices. We all enjoyed ourselves, first time experience. We even went up to the stage to sing, dance and receiving fake colorful flowers with $1.tip. Fyi, If you do receive flowers with tip, that will belong to the owners. It goes back in the bucket for the owners. hehe. We visited the 2nd time with friends ( 2 Fridays in a row) the same impression, getting to the Karaoke spot, seeing the impression on their faces ( sketchy) but they actually had a great time singing, hanging out, observing the other party that was there. We bought 4 bottles of beer this time, didn't BYOB but I brought chips, dips and some desserts to snack on. The Heineken were $6. and Corona were $8. All in all, first time visiting a Vietnamese Karaoke bar and we will def. be back! Parking available in the back of building's private lot, after hours no need to pay the meter or street parking I know you wouldn't want to park on the street due to the homeless situation at Chinatown.

I actually had no idea that they had karaoke here-- I thought it was just a Korean restaurant, but the "Báng" here I am guessing corresponds to 방 in 노래방. We ordered the Seafood Pancake, Old-Fashioned KFC (Korean fried chicken), Mochiko Chicken, Jja Jang Ramen, and Cream Kimchi Udon for food. All were tasty and paired well with whatever drinks we ordered, which included flavored soju. Servers were quick to check in on us and bring our orders. The mechanic of karaoke here is that you pay for each song, which forces one to be more intentional with singing, but at the same time makes on less stressed about cramming in music within a set amount of time. I left before the rest of my group did, but it was the perfect venue for them to say goodbye to each other and share a moment as friends.

I have nothing but great things to say about this place…read more My daughter was here from college and my sister wanted to take her to eat Korean food and sing some karaoke. We decided to go to this place because they had a pretty stunner menu and my daughter and my sister like to drink soju. I called well in advance because I did have my baby and at that time she was 10 months old so I asked how was the volume level and they said it should be OK because we're going there pretty early but if it gets louder, they will turn the music down for us And I thought that was pretty cool of them Little that I know that when we got there they gave us a private room for free and we ordered a bunch of food and the songs were two dollars apiece, which was fine with me because we could control the volume and we could enjoy a small room as we had 6 of us there. We ordered a bunch of food and everything was delicious and we ordered a few different sojus and that was also delicious. I also got a few Korean beers which was super cold and I enjoyed that. All in all, it ended up being a great time and the staff was very accommodating and super kind and help us out a lot with the karaoke machine and with the choosing of songs.
