My family and I had a 3 week gap between selling our house and moving into our new house. Needless to say, it was a lot of trips to and from! We were looking for a storage close to the freeway, clean, and easily accessible. A-1 was a great choice. Mostly because Grace and Pinky are awesome! Grace was amazing. it was clean and well done. the stairs were wide and accommodating for lifting up bulky items and furniture. only downside I saw was that on the third floor there was no door stops for the doors. had to use boxes to keep open. read more

A-1 experience and service! My roommates and I needed a storage unit for the summer and none of us have ever used a storage facility before, so I called A-1 to get our questions answered. Pinky answered the phone, and she was so helpful and kind! She helped us get set up at our storage unit (showed us to our unit, how to use the lock, and how to arm/disarm the unit). We got a free lock just by checking in on Yelp! The facility was very clean and cool, and the employees are very helpful! Overall, it was a great experience. :) read more

The customer service this self-storage is well below par. Do you remember how you felt when you walked into the front office in high school... same feeling when you walk into this place. This storage unit is way off the beaten path in La Mesa. That's probably why it's ridiculously inexpensive. Pros: -Excellent customer service. The girls in the office are always ridiculously friendly. I've never gotten attitude, no matter what other Yelpers insist. -Super secure, clean, well-lit facility. -It's cheeeeeap. -Yelp check in gets you three free boxes. EVERY SINGLE TIME you check in. It's kind of crazy. Cons: -It's out in the middle of nowhere. Way off the freeway. If you're driving a huge, ungainly UHaul truck, it's, uh, pretty exciting. -The elevators are about two feet too short for the provided carts. Getting loaded carts into the elevator is a feat of physics that generally requires three adults lifting and dragging and aggressively maneuvering said cart into place. Biggest pain in the ass EVER. -There's very little space for loading/unloading...if you go on a Saturday afternoon, be prepared to haul your belongings a considerable distance. I don't know, it's a storage unit. Whatever. It'll keep your stuff safe and money in your bank account. read more

Let me say this to start out! A-1 is Clean, Bright, Affordable, Secure, But did you know: They're Responsive and Knowledgeable I finally met Jenn in person after all the other communication. She' was helpful, courteous and Very Knowledgeable! Getting storage is easy, but try dealing with the staff at some of these other storage places can be a handful and then some! I was not sure what I was going to do after my mother passed and I had the unpleasant chore of cleaning up her belongings from various storage sites. (Why she felt the need to have storage all over the city, I'll never know...it's not like a stock investment portfolio where you need to be diversified, it's Storage for Pete's Sake) This is where I found it to be Night and Day difference from one storage site to another. The on-site manager Jenn politely took my call the first time....Asked my name, relation and pertinent information about my situation and even offered her condolences to my mother's passing...:-) I felt like from the other companies renting out storage in my mother's name, could care less who I was, just that I was bugging them from being on their Iphone or whatever ;-( Jenn knew the issues I was dealing with as she must have dealt with this before. Walked me to my storage location and helped with showing me all the necessary packing material and items displayed neatly inside their office! Friends, if you are going through someone's past storage or you need it for yourself, please consider A-1 in LaMesa off Center Drive. Self-storage ain't cheap but if you gotta go for it this is a VERY nice place to deal with. It's a convenient location to those who live in the area, clean, well-kept, very secure and safe feeling for both your stuff and yourself, and the ladies at the front desk--I'm familiar with Wendy and Jennifer--are cheerful and most helpful. I had looked into a smaller place that was cheaper nearby but it was also more inconvenient to get into and didn't look as weatherproof. Plus there was only one man at the office and he wasn't always in. Here there is always someone to help you when the office is open and you can get to your stuff up till 8pm with your access codes. The ladies even give you a courtesy call if you don't pay on time so you won't get a late fee. read more

Gee, I wish I could say something better about A-1 Storage, because it seems they have great rates and are close by, but unfortunately, I can't. They don't seem to really know the meaning of good customer service when the customer has a question or that they simply would rather not hear about. Instead, they cop an attitude and sound very canned. If you're not happy with this treament, then YOU'RE being unreasonable, so now YOU are the bad guy! Not my idea of "EQ" -- emotional intelligence. Being evasive and spouting a script just doesn't cut it when the customer is annoyed. PS: The comment left below demonstrates precisely what I mean about their attitude: if you don't like it, lump it. WE'RE refuse to change or improve, or even take seriously your feedback. read more

Reserving this unit on line was super easy. After receiving a quote last week they followed up with us reminding us they were there to answer any questions. This let us know they wanted our business. After looking online and comparing rates we chose this location as it is close to our home and had the best rate. Upon arrival it looked very clean and they are very professional. I have to move in three weeks and they definitely took care of me and made my transition into storage a really smooth one!

Please don't take your personal belonging to this storage they ask u to fill out paper work saying what u might put in the storage and then they go into your storage and steal what they want. My thing were only their for about 2 months and many thing were taken when I was asked to get a police report I did and the officer did a interview over the phone I told him what was missing and the officer said that it looked like a inside job all of the employee has their stories together they talk about having camera but the only camera were on the out side of the building and they talk about weekly walk through, out the premises but your stuff can be taken on a Monday but the next walk through won't be until the next Monday even the claims department were in on it and her supervisor beware of A-1 Storage and on Main Street they steal and lie check your storage as often as u can because they will still your thing and get away with it read more

Place is great. Clean. Friendly. Staff is helpful and kind. Easy to get in and out. Inside temp stays cool. Lots of parking near elevator. All and all awesome place! Only thing is that there aren't very many trash cans if any at all on the property. read more

While the staff is nice and helpful the most important part of the equation is the quality of unit that will be housing your stuff.. this place charges yearly for "upgrades" yet is unable to keep water from getting in your storage unit which btw they are not responsible for. Just walk around and look at units before you sign up, guaranteed you will see signs of water damage throughout the premises. Buyer beware. read more
