I can't say enough good things about AAA. We had service with Delta when we moved into our home in Topanga, CA, and we were paying so much for propane, running out, and could never get anyone to come fill our tank. I did some research, and when I called AAA, I got Dave on the phone on the first ring. He was super nice, and AAA's rates turned out to be significantly lower than Delta's, so we switched right over. We've had a great experience with them ever since. Both Dave and Jim, who delivers the propane, are super nice guys with great personalities, and at one point when we were afraid of a scary propane leak, Dave even gave us his personal cell number. I've never gone online to write a review but I felt obligated after experiencing AAA's service and cost. The owner (and son) were very accommodating. They drove to my home, grinded out an in-ground pipe, converted my propane grill into natural gas and hooked up the new system. I could tell they took pride in their work. I was expecting a $500 bill but it was less than half that. Their quality of work and low cost are two things that often do not go together, but in my situation it did. I started using this company about 3 years ago because they are $1 cheaper per gallon than the previous company. They have always been very prompt when I call for a delivery, usually the next day. Just before Christmas I had a propane conversion kit installed in a clothes dryer and it was making funny noises. The installer wouldn't answer my calls, so I called AAA for a reliable repairperson recommendation. Instead, the AAA man came out the same day, checked to make sure the unit was working correctly, and wouldn't charge me. Said it was Christmas. He came from Ojai to Camarillo, quite a trek. New to Propane in a recent move, and according to my plumber, the reason our system wasnt working was likely due to less than 15% volume in my 300 gallon tank. The propane tank had an Amerigas sticker, so I called. The customer service rep said that the system would have to be inspected prior to scheduling a fill up. She said likely 2 week appointment. I asked if she could speak with her manager to expedite the date due to this emergency of no heat or hot water. She returned and said a week at best, then continued with a 2-3 minute lecture about not setting this up ahead of time. I was really surprised about the approach and asked again for a jump in time. Nope, another 2 minute lecture. I called AAA, spoke with one of the owners. That afternoon a tech came out, found a minor leak in the manifold. The tech replaced the manifold, to no avail. He said issue is likely a larger manifold. He returned in the early evening, replaced the manifold, system fixed and then proceeded to fill over 200 gallons of propane. Low 2's $ a gallon. Amerigas quoted me at $3.90 plus likely a service call if expedited service was asked for. read more

I rented a 250 gallon tank to fire my kiln. After a year of unsuccessful firings I decided to return the tank which still contained 50 gallons of propane. I was told i would be reimbursed for the unused gas. The tank was returned to the establishment and my gas was resold to another customer. I was not reimbursed for the gas. My phone calls to JR were not returned. I f I had read the negative reviews of the company, I certainly would never dealt with such a sketchy business. read more

These guys are fantastic. We've been with them now for about 2 years. They promised to keep the price low, and always have. They also recently helped us out with the County of LA, which cited our propane tank for being in the public right of way (despite it having been there for at least 15 years - got to love the County, not!). This was not their fault as I hired them only two years ago, and they simply put it where the previous tank had been placed. Nonetheless they took full responsibility to solve this situation for me. Three guys came out in two trucks and spent a good hour or more moving the propane tank to a different location. It was a good deal of work and required a crane, some tree trimming and the like. At the end of this I asked them for an invoice and they refused - saying it was just a part of their service. As for their regular service, they are quick to come out if your tank is running low and have been happy to fill my small propane tanks for no extra fee. AAA Propane is fantastic! read more

I needed 300 gallons of propane on the 4th of July. I called AAA and they filled my company's propane tank within 3 hours. It really saved the work planned for the weekend. I stayed with AAA for 15 of the 20 years I lived in Ojai, simply because it is so hard to switch companies. Once, a new driver tried to service a tank from a dirt passage the company knew was inaccessible by truck, and they nearly rolled a full truck of propane onto the road. If not for a local heavy equipment operator who pulled them out, they could have burned down the entire mountain I live on. During this debacle, which I photographed (if anyone is interested), JR yelled and cussed and screamed at ME! Now that I have sold my home and was told in person by the other co-owner (John Simpson, JR's brother) that he would reimburse me for the fuel I left behind in my 3 tanks (which he turned around and sold to the new owner) they are refusing to process my refund. It's been 2-1/2 months and all I keep being told is that their "payment center" seems unable or unwilling to cut a check. I will be pursuing this in court and with the better business people and chambers of commerce. read more
