So we drive by this all the time when we're gone or coming back from big Bear. Every time we drive by the wife and I remember how great A&W was. We share our memories and things like that. Well today, the grandkids were in the car coming back with us. And we had to stop to give them an A&W experience. Well, the carhops aren't there anymore or the glass mugs but we did go through drive-through. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were pretty busy on Saturday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We waited in the drive-through before being greeted by an extremely friendly employee. He was very polite, took our order did suggestive selling everything that an employer would want their employee to do. It was a little bit of a wait to get to the window, but it's understandable when the first thing out of their mouth is what can I make fresh for you today. When we got to the window, our primary order was root beer floats. The same order taker that took our money gave us our order. He was still very polite and made sure we had everything we needed. The first thing I noted is they use soft serve ice cream now with the root beer floats and some of you reading. This are probably saying come on grandpa hand scooped ice cream went out years ago. I'm happy to report the root beer floats were very good even with the soft serve ice cream. The grandkids love them. We love them and we will be stopping more often as we drive down. If you're ever coming from big Bear, we're going to big Bear and you get into Mentone I think it is, I highly recommend just stopping to A&W grab yourself something to eat and one of the famous root beer floats. read more

We traveled from Hemet to try out this A & W Root Beer and we are so glad we did! We ordered a triple cheeseburger combo with French fries plus a BLT sandwich and a medium root beer float. The burger was flavorful, cheese melted just right, and it came just as we ordered (no lettuce or onions). The fries were hot and crispy with a hint of seasoning that made them perfect! With BLT sandwiches, sometimes the lettuce is the "main event", but not here! Tons of crispy bacon with shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes on an "inverted" bun so the toasted side was outside - what a great idea! The float was sooooo good! Their soft serve ice cream is so yummy, and the float brought back childhood memories of summer. On top of the great food, we arrived around 1:30 so at the tail end of the lunch rush. They were pretty busy with a large group on the patio and 7 tables filled inside plus steady drive thru traffic. Our food came out within about 6 minutes from ordering it! First and foremost, don't come here expecting gourmet meals. They do the basics, but they do them well. The chicken sliders were lightly breaded. The chicken was juicy, and delicious. The fries were your basic yummy fries. I did order the root beer float, which brought back childhood memories of when the "carhop" would skate to your parked car, tray in hand, with your food and drinks. The taste was the same, even decades later. Such a yummy treat. Just happen to stop here while coming back from a trip. You don't often see A&W Restaurants unless you're out of the city and on a trip. This place is open 24 hours which is nice if you're in the area. I have never written a review for any Fast Food restaraunt , but the crew that works at THIS A&W really are amazing . Stopped on way back from Big Bear twice, and each time the front order staff are smiling, happy, and take the time to explain the menu. They redid an order for us that frankly was our fault for the incorrect order, but they cooked what we wanted super quickly with no drama . I love this place! Best part has got to be that it's open 24/7 !! Food is, ...well, ok. As expected. My absolute favorite thing here is a sweet treat, something called a ROOT BEER FREEZE. Drive thru open 24/7 and inside seating at the diner closes at 10 pm. They have 4 large tables outside to eat your food. I Came through here around 1030 so the diner was closed unfortunately but I got to enjoy my food outside at the tables with the A&W mascot "Rooty" the Great Root Bear! The new French onion double cheeseburger was very fresh and tasty and I paired that with a Reese's Polar Swirl which was good alongside the chili cheese fries. I have to say the Reese's Ice cream and the chili cheese fries Tasted very similar to Weinerschnitzels but more fresh to say. This place is a blast from my past. I haven't been to a real A&W since the 90's back in Michigan. I drove 45 minutes to check this place out. The food was what you expected from A&W. Hot and ready ooey gooey goodness with chile and cheese. Service was fast and with a smile. And they didn't even forget to offer the frosted mugs for our root bear floats The interior was surprisingly clean given the neighboring area. Plenty of outside seating as well Oh and did I mention they are open 24 hours!!!! Well they are. Quick tip: bathroom is located outside so you'll have to ask for a code to get in. Late night gem! Very happy to find this A&W restaurant. Not only for the nostalgic feeling but for those late night cravings. There are a few places opened past 10pm , and even less that are open 24 hour in this area . A&W is true to All American food . My food was very fresh and hot, no one likes cold food. I was looking forward to dining inside but unfortunately missed the chance since they close the inside dining at 10pm. Outdoor dining area is available so after ordering my food through drive thru, I enjoyed my chili cheese fries and Reese's polar swirl on the outdoor tables alongside Rooty the Great Root Bear , A&W's beloved mascot! This is a very quiet area located on a major intersection (mentone Blvd ) so you can't miss it . Place looks very clean and maintained! Although I had a longer than usual wait time for my food I was please to know my food was cooked to order and staff is very welcoming. Their menu has many classic items , you will find something for everyone. Drinks, dessert, burgers, chicken and more . A must try is their made fresh in store Root Beer. Sometimes you have to go old-school and get an A & W Root Beer (now A & W Restaurant). Growing up I had very fond memories of Root Beer floats at these restaurants (sometimes more like soda stand versus a restaurant - but it was another era ....). Today it was hot, and the Root Beer Sassafras flavor was calling me. So I had a Root Beer Cream Freeze. Their saying is that it "Sips like a shake. Tastes like a float." That's basically true - I think it's more vanilla ice cream than Root Beer, but still has the flavor without the carbonation. It didn't miss the mark - it's quite refreshing. Not to leave well enough alone, I had the Coney Cheese Dog. You'll need the container or the fork to eat this. The bun didn't hold up very well with the chili and cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was a disappointment - marginal flavoring. The chili was better than expected but a bit salty. But the hot dog, by itself, was fairly decent - too bad it was masked by all the other flavors. Its casing had a nice snap to each bite, and the dog had the distinctive beefy, rich flavor. To shave a few calories, you can still get that Root Beer flavor with the ice cream mixes by requesting diet Root Beer. read more

We just stopped by here on our way home from Oak Glen, and the service here was amazing! John and the whole team were incredibly kind and accommodating with us while this place was packed. We ordered a diet float and a regular one, and they couldn't remember which one was the diet so they let us keep the original and remade a float for us and upsized it without us even asking for it! The rest of the food came out perfectly. John and the other team members handled this rush of people with such kindness and paid great attention to every customer.
