I've been coming here since I was in high school. This place has changed a lot from the years. Didn't use to have A&W but now it does. The kitchen staff works pretty fast here. Once they run out of certain things it was done in like 5 minutes. Ordered the 2 small chicken sandwiches this time. Forgot exactly what it was called but it came with a side and a drink for $5! This is really a review for A & W. Haven't been in ages but man, do their burgers suck. I am not against paying $6-7 for a burger and fries at a fast food joint but the burgers were really really bad. Buns were large, dry, not buttered or grilled (which is not always required, but could have definitely made them better in this case). Patties were flavorful but very small in comparison to the rest of the burger fixings and buns. Size is not an issue with burgers ala In and Out, but overall presentation, taste and texture lose out when you have big buns, onions, lettuce and pickles overpowering a tiny patty. This is the 2nd A&W that Cholo and I have been to. There's something about fastfood and Cholo and his cravings, there are days that he hates it and there are days that he feens for it, and this is one of those days. On our way to Mariner's Point to play golf and after playing tennis were starving and since we dont have much time for our tee time, we decided to come here instead. I have eaten at KFC before and additionally, I grew up drinking sodas made by A&W. Wanted to try the food at one of their restaurants for so long. A&W has joint operations with KFC at this location. One facility, two restaurants with their own menus and flexible choices. I have came here for lunch several times during the past summer. Where else can you buy a gallon of A&W root beer? I'm not saying that I have, or ever will, but that's pretty awesome. And A&W root beer is pretty awesome. But I'll get to that in a second. As newcomers, my wife and I have tried random things throughout Millbrae. We've also taken numerous drives up and down 280 and El Camino when we're having a hard time putting out son to sleep. Every now and then one of us will ask, "Wanna get a root beer?" That's all we ever get here. Actual draft root beer that's served on tap as if you you were ordering beer at a pub. The texture of the root beer has a distinctive frothy fizz you can't get out of a can or even a bottle. Sweet. Creamy. Delicious. Came here because my gf used to work in the area, and was craving some good ol' fast food mayhem. I got the bacon cheeseburger, fries and orange cream soda, and the gf got a regular cheeseburger with fries and root beer. Surprisingly, the soda on tap was really good for the orange cream soda, but for her root beer, failed to tantalize her taste buds. Both our burgers were incredibly tasty, and the fries were excellent as well. Although this is also a KFC joint, I would hazard to say that if you want great food, choose the A&W menu, as opposed to the KFC menu. Service is kinda slow, but at least you know they make the food on the spot. (A&W food, not the chicken stuff) As for me, I'm pretty satisfied with the entire trip, even if it was only for this place. read more

The girl working the counter was awesome. The food was good. The dining room, however, was FILTHY. There were two other tables with people eating at them. No one ahead of us when we ordered, yet we couldn't find a clean table to sit at. The floor was also disgusting - littered with bits of food and garbage. Someone needs to keep up with the cleaning of the tables/chairs and sweeping of the floor. There was garbage in the thing where the clean cup lids and straws were stored near the soda fountain. We enjoyed our burgers, but the dining room left a LOT to be desired. Shortly before we left, someone came out and cleaned a couple tables, but most were still dirty. Back in the '60's I had my 1st 'Baby' burger, fries and Root Beer...nothing could compare with the tastes that exploded in me...Love @ 1st bite. as the years past...'70's still Great..now munching on Papa burgers and a Quart of that frosty cold RB...What happened in the '80's..they closed up shops and disappeared so that now these places are far and few between. went to a new place..no drive up, no waiting on the cars like they use to...(where have I been???) and the FOOD is pale by comparison...the burgers are smaller but the tast, the taste is gone...even the fries have no flavor...Thank GOD that the Root Beer is still untouched. Food was about what you'd expect for fast food burger and fries. The restaurant itself looks like it was forgotten in the '90s, and that also appears to be the last time it was cleaned. I went in at about 3 pm, so the dining room wasn't too crowded, but people were coming in and out and using the drive through. The server was very friendly. I had some time to go get a newspaper from my car, etc. while they prepared my food. The bacon cheeseburger I had was fine - fresh lettuce and tomato and everything. The fries were a little weird - not very warm and a bit soggy - not like the ones I'd had at a different A&W. But that was minor. The root beer was fine - I mixed a little of the regular into the diet. The dining room was a little messy; the stainless-steel root beer tap looked like it had leaked onto the floor, and the puddle had not been mopped up, and a lot of the tables really needed to be wiped down. The two staff I saw working were actually working (cooking, taking orders), so I think the place just needs one more person to clean and maintain the dining room. All in all, not a bad option if you're in that area and want fast food other than Burger King or Taco Bell. read more

I feel like they just let a bunch of teenagers loose in the wild without any supervision. They were nice, but very disorganized. Nearby In and Out had a huge line so I said forget that and headed to my next favorite burger place A&W. Actually I go for the root beer floats and dont mind their food. Brought my kids, hoping to delight them. I immediately didn't like their menu which only lists full meal deals. What if I am trying to be a little health conscious and want to avoid fries and soda? Obviously i don't belong here. Single burgers by themselves are not offered. I never liked businesses that manipulate you but ok. No big deal. We waited and finally got the drink and bacon burger. But i didn't see any bacon in my burger so I went back. The food tasted off. My son loves burgers but said it was the worst he ever had. We finished and left, disappointed by the unsatisfying experience. Later we all started to feel bad. Meh. My first impression walking in to this place was messy. There is so much trash and food scraps on the seats and floor that I wonder if people are even swallowing. "Fast food" - Yeah, right. We went through the drive-thru and ordered four burgers, two root beer floats, and large fries. The lady at the counter we pulled up to gave us our floats and told us that the wait for the burgers would be 5 minutes, for the patties. She asked us to go ahead and park in the front of the restaurant. Everyone in the car thought that was a little weird, but we did it anyway, since we had our floats, which were great, by the way. However, as we sat in the car, five minutes quickly turned into ten and we still didn't get our food. The floats we were drinking were close to empty. We decided to go through the drive-thru again, this time ignoring the lady speaking through the mic. We pulled up to the window, where she told us that this time it was our fries that we had to wait for. She the called to the kitchen for large fries. When we finally got our "fast food," the large fries we got turned out to be small fries. Like, the kid's size. This past Sunday the dood and I got a little too hungry after our trip to OSH and fell for the fried-meat-and-flour smell coming from the A&W/KFC. I have never eaten here before and wanted to try it. Walk in pretty ok was greeted and my order was taken in little time. Not bad so far, I was looking for a seat when I walked into the dinning area and all I seen was dirty tables that nobody was sitting at. After looking around the dinning area few mins I seen a table and to my surprise it was right next to a worker that was on a break. I kindly asked him if anyone was able to clean the tables and he her looked at me and ignored my comment. I guess his break was too important. This is probably the one and only time that I eat here. I lost my appetite with all the left over fast food all over the tables, grease you can see on the tables from the KFC chicken. If the dinning hall is that dirty how are they keeping the back where all the food is prepared?! The root-beer floats were good but I probably will make them at home instead. I want to start by saying I hate writing negative reviews. It's a shame this establishment compels me do do so. The absolute worst customer service I have ever witnessed. After a very long day of work, the wife and I decided to swing into A&W of Millbrea for a couple of burgers and root beer floats. Had to look for the place, kinda knew where it was, as they had no outside lights on at all, including their signage. It was dark - 8:20 at night. That should've been our first clue. Okay, we go in, passing a couple of "partying employees" in the garbage area behind the restaurant. Okay, whatever. Our order is taken and are promptly served our floats. (Great floats). There's a lot of joking and yelling about missing or late orders. We learn one family had been waiting for their order for 45 minutes. Guess we should be a little greatful ours only took 25 minutes. I'm still not sure why we waited. Turns out our burgers had been sitting on the counter for most of that time. This is the 2nd time the manager has thrown away food, as it was probably cold. Seems he had no control over his employees and had to go back in the kitchen and fill orders himself. We watch a guy with no shirt on fill the ice cream maker with a bag of cream. All the customers see this. We all shake our heads in disgust. Manager is told and yells out, "LITO, PUT A SHIRT ON!! I'M ABOUT TO GET KILLED OUT HERE!!" As people slowly get their orders filled, we finally get ours, with extra fries, cookies and apologies. Nice try A&W. It's now 9:05pm and we can't wait to get the Hell out of there. There is no excuse for a business to run this way. Tables were dirty. Floors were dirty. Trash cans were full. Major failure. Reading past reviews, I can't understand how this place stays in business. It's an absolute shame. Back in the day A&W was a great place to go.
