He was super friendly and very generous. He accommodated our request to add other toppings to the pre-baked slices that were behind the glass. He also added some free garlic knots to our order. I was excited to try this place because of the solid Yelp reviews but to my dismay they seem to have gotten distracted when adding the cheese and ran it through the oven anyway. Everything from his cheese, pepperoni, dough, and his homemade cannoli filling (which you absolutely need to try) is of the highest quality I have seen in my entire life. I visited again recently, and after only one interaction almost a year ago, Joseph recognized me! We talked about how he was doing, how business is going, and about his outstanding products. It is one of my greatest sorrows that I live 500 miles away, or else I would be in multiple times per week, even just to say hi to Joseph. In closing, Joseph has created an unbeatable product of such a high quality that it would be a disservice to yourself not to try. If you're in the San Diego area, you need to try this place! It was one of our little routines, and we genuinely enjoyed supporting this place. Unfortunately, today's experience completely changed that. There was a new employee working -- a young woman with a facial piercing -- who was rude and clearly irritated throughout the interaction. What concerned me even more was the lack of basic food-handling hygiene. She did not wash her hands and was touching food, then the register, then food again, which felt unsanitary and uncomfortable to watch. When it came to Parmesan cheese, she initially gave only two packets for four large slices. When I asked for more, she seemed very annoyed and said they're "not supposed to give any out," before reluctantly handing me two more. It wasn't that she refused -- it was the attitude and irritation over a very reasonable request. This experience was disappointing enough that it honestly makes us not want to come back, which is sad considering how often we used to visit.
