Pizzeria Luigi is located on the bustling El Cajon BLVD near the famous Lafayette Hotel. After watching a live music performance at the hotel, we were starving and found our way to Pizzeria Luigi. There is some indoor seating although the seating is mostly large picnic bench style or small two person table but not a lot of in between 4 person seating. Unfortunately, service was not great, the worker gave us a lot of attitude and seemed to not want to be there. The pizza itself was solid, I enjoyed the meat lovers and BBQ chicken but our slices were also not heated sufficiently so some slices were cold in certain spots. The garlic knots had good flavor but had the same heat problem. Perhaps it was the late time we came after 9 pm but I will not likely be back to Pizzeria Luigi. read more

The dude behind the counter was fun and they had about 12 different pizzas to choose from. My only gripe was that the pizzas had what felt like the minimum amount of protein on them. SLICE HEAVEN--yes, that's Pizzeria Luigi. Everything feels thoughtfully done without trying too hard. Whether I'm popping into the Golden Hill spot or making a stop while visiting friends in IB, the result is always the same: consistently great pizza and zero regrets. There's something about walking in, scanning the case, and immediately deciding you need at least two slices--ideally completely different, because why limit yourself? Our go-tos? The White Girl and the OG Crime Scene. Both are standouts for very different reasons, and we somehow convince ourselves every time that adding a "new slice for research purposes" is the right move. It always is. The crust hits that perfect balance--crispy, chewy, and sturdy enough to handle all the goodness on top without falling apart mid-bite (a true art form). One of the few crust I eat from end to end. It's casual, it's reliable, and it delivers every single time. We've been loyal to the slices so far, but the rolls and other menu items are calling our name--so safe to say, we'll be back soon with more "research" and another review. read more

I had this huge craving for pizza BAD. So I stopped by Luigi's. But man...I had a very mid pizza here. Mid as in, the marinara didn't have much to it, the crust was inedible, and overall had lacked in flavor. I got two slices, cheese and pepperoni. They reheat the slices in the oven but it seemed like the pies they had out were old, dried out almost. The cheese melted when they reheated, however it felt tasted somewhat stale and lacked depth. I felt really disappointed that I was let down by two slices of pizza. The moment we opened the door into the restaurant, we were greeted with VERY loud heavy metal music and the Padres game on their TV with the volume set to be louder than the music. It was no wonder why all the customers were sitting outside. No regard for the costumers whatsoever. We walk in to an empty restaurant with a worker standing behind a glass counter featuring some of their pizzas that, I'm assuming you can buy by the slice. On the pizzas were flies! I pointed it out to my husband in hopes he'd get the hint to leave but their employee was standing there staring at us... waiting to take our order. If it would have been up to me, I would have left as I was already disgusted but at this point my husband felt like we were sadly committed with the guy standing there. Reluctantly, we ordered the Crime Scene (the name added to the disgust I was already feeling). The pizza wasn't terrible but slightly burnt on the bottom. Same with their garlic knots. You go up to the pizza display cabinet and order either slices or whole pies. They have about 12 different pies that you can order by the slice. There is no service other than where you order your pie. I had a plain cheese slice. It was the best I have had so far in SD. It is the closest thing to NY pizza, but it falls short. The sauce is good, but it is missing something in the flavor. Overall, it is worth a try. There is on street parking which is not all that plentiful. I was really excited to try this place on the hill In San Diego! Guy Fieri came to this location to check them out for their pizza by the slice. There is definitely a reason why he added this spot to his list. It did not disappoint as they had an array of pizza flavors that was hard to chose when it came to making a decision. I couldn't go with 1 so I went with 2 . I got the Detroit style pizza slice and the Leonardo slide with some garlic knots. There was a line but it went by fast. Was in the mood for a meat lovers pizza, was thinking of going to Bronx Pizza but then I realized there was a Luigi's Pizzeria in North Park. I lived near one in Golden Hills. The closest thing they had was the El Diablo, which was a meat lovers plus garlic, jalapeños, Sriracha, and buffalo sauce. I ordered that and a pepperoni and pesto to balance it out. We bought a $31 pizza from this restaurant today--1/2 pepperoni and mushroom and 1/2 barbeque chicken. I do not like spicy food and asked the server if the barbeque sauce was spicy and he told me no. Got home and the barbeque chicken pizza was so spicy it burned my tongue. I called and spoke to the manager who thought it was sufficient enough to tell me the ingredients in the sauce and inferred that it was just too bad if it was too spicy for me. My husband's pepperoni/mushroom was just OK--definitely have had better for a lower price. Bad enough that their pizzas are so expensive but when it is also inedible because they lied about the spiciness that is a total red flag. I would give them no stars if I could.
