We LOVE A. FUSION!!! We've been coming here for about 3 years now, and my husband loves the red Thai curry chicken. I like it with shrimp. I've had the walnut shrimp.... it's just OK. Egg foo young is great.. and they have some great sushi choices, too!! Last night, we did the DINNER FOR 2. You get egg drop soup, an egg roll, spare ribs( which tasted microwaved, BLEH) a tempura shrimp which was fantastic! You make a chicken choice, and a beef choice.. The room was now 2 rooms and the menu didn't include the ribs, shrimp toast and jumbo shrimp. They seemed real hesitant and unsure of the details. WARNING!!! Before you go for the sushi buffet, they do several things to make sure you don't eat too many pieces of sushi and hence pad their profits. The maki rolls have way too much rice. See attached pictures. It is probably ten times the amount of rice in proportion to the sushi. So, you get full off of the rice and not the sushi. In addition, they will charge you a fee for what you cannot finish. So in essence, it's not really a sushi buffet, it is a rice buffet since you have to eat every piece. You are force-feeding yourself rice. Keep this in mind before you go to this "sushi buffet". There are four things you could go for: Hibachi, Chinese buffet ($7.49), Sushi buffet ($14.99), or regular sit-down. Had we known this prior to our arrival, we would have NOT wasted our time dining here, but because we drove all this way, we went with the sushi buffet with fingers crossed that our one year-old would enjoy the Veggie Tempura, Gyoza and Unagi with vinegared rice. Prior to ordering, my husband had just left the table to go wash his hands. A waitress ran after him asking him (loudly) if he needed help? So he says over another table that he's just going to find the restroom. That was annoying and embarrassing. For a buffet, I thought you get to pick out from a buffet table. Here, you have to order from a menu without photos. So, we were blindly guided into temptation. There were plenty of surprises and disappointments in store. If we had ordered from the regular menu, each Norimaki costs $4-$10. We ordered: Dragon Roll ($10) - Not bad. Flavorful until the third piece. Very crunchy. Mexican Roll ($9) - It was bad. Flavor was lacking. The cilantro tasted like soap. Hey, wasn't cilantro recalled for salmonella this week??? Hmm... Spicy Salmon Roll ($6?) - Very good. Very spicy. Salmon was fresh and tender. Spicy Tuna Rolls ($5?) - It was bland but spicy. Nothing to be happy over, though. Each piece of Nigiri from the regular menu ranged from $2-$3.5). We got: Salmon Sushi - It was perfect. The fish was fresh and tender. Water Eel Sushi - It was OK. My daughter liked it. Tuna Sushi - It was only OK. Nothing to boast about. Home Salad (the Japanese dressing was watered down with a little too much ginger in it and paired with the cheapest of the cheapest... iceburg lettuce). Is this how it's supposed to be? Anyhow, I didn't like it but their salad prices start at $4 on the regular menu and I was really trying to eat my money's worth! Vegetable Tempura ($8) - Really good paired with the usual dipping sauce. Gyoza ($4?) - It wasn't good. Why was it battered up? Shouldn't they be pan-fried? Oh, and there is no dessert on the sushi buffet menu. We ate our worth but it wasn't easy. My biggest problem was how the rolls were "over-riced". You will know this when the Norimaki begins to fall apart when lifted to your mouth. Also, their disclaimer is to not leave anything left over on your plate, otherwise they will charge you. With this on the back of our minds, it took away all the fun from dining at a sushi buffet. We won't be back. We would rather go to some place with extremely friendly staff and lots of food waste. Nagoya in Naperville is similar in price and you can throw away all the food you want and they have desserts. Where do I start with this awfully decorated so called south suburban 'hot spot' ? HA! Exactly, it was a joke. My first and only visit to catch up with a friend I've known since college. The martinis- laughable, the food-bland..the noise -why is it so loud in here? The reason: there was a mystery play dinner going on in the back. Are you kidding me? Now I'm struggling to hear my friend because of the bad and loud overacting going on in the back room. We had an issue with the drinks and the waitress (who could no longer speak English at that point) regardless of the fact we were there communicating 45 mins prior to the "incident". She ushered the bartender to us. Who in the hell sends a bartender to the table telling us, we have to pay for the horrible drinks she created? We took less than a sip before screaming bloody murder and refusing it. Long story short, we were comped the 2 measly drinks. I have been going here for years, since it first opened. At first, wonderful food and service....then complete change in personnel and the food would vary between visits, but for the most part main dishes were still good. The fried rice was poor and the eggrolls were just american cabbage and no spices. I was sad. Just now, i am even sadder. We went in today, sunday, at 6ish. Order crab ragoon which was good, came out hot. Orange chicken, chicken lo mein. The orange chicken came out already cold and too much corn starch so very thick....the lo mein took another 5 minutes but at least it was hot. I wasnt too upset at this but i felt the service was a bit hard to find. Then i got the check, they had tacked on an 18 percent tip onto my credit card when i handed it over (including some take out i ordered). sorry jerks but this is not right, cant do it without warning. I didnt kick up a fuss since the waiter cost himself 2 more dollars but no, they will never get me to eat in again. read more

I love the concept of this place, it is an Asian fusion place... no duh. They have a very diverse menu ranging from Chinese to sushi, but when I saw all you can eat sushi, I knew what I was going to order. The place is really big, fairly nice and the waitstaff was efficient and pleasant enough. We ordered the sushi, starting with some salmon, shrimp and tuna. All was very fresh and I enjoyed a ton, very good in my book. We also ordered a few rolls , the spicy scallop which was very spicy, I enjoyed it very much, so very good. The spicy Tuna roll was pretty straight forward, not as spicy and very good. The Unagi roll was a standout, and was as close to greatness as I've had in an Unagi roll. We decided to come here and try the Thai food. The building is an old Chi Chi's and is very big. Great layout inside. Several different dining rooms, a couple bars and a Hibachi grills. Also a sushi bar as well.Wer'e not the sushi type people so I can't comment on that. The menu is huge and includes Japanese, Chinese and Thai. It takes a while to look at it all. We ordered Crab Rangoon, Pad Woon Sen and Ginger shrimp. All were excellent and we had leftovers to take home. Service was also excellent and prompt. Give this place a try. For the last several years, we've done hibachi for my birthday. This year, my fiancee put together a surprise birthday dinner for me to celebrate my big 3-0. After being turned down by a few other places who wouldn't give him a reservation for 30 on a weeknight, he managed to get one at A Fusion which a friend had mentioned a few weeks prior. Unfortunately, despite our reservation, we ended up squeezed at one of the large tables and one of the small tables because the party at the other large table was lingering excessively. Their leftovers had been packed, the table was long cleared, and they were just sitting totally oblivious to the 15 or so people standing around waiting to be seated. That's not really the restaurants fault though. You could tell they were trying to encourage the other party to move on. Our cook was pretty fantastic. He was lively and engaging and had a great personality. He also did a great job manning two grill tops and the 20 or so people seated around them. There really probably should have been two cooks. Our waitress was pretty good about getting drinks. There were some mix ups and delays, but I always have some expectation of that when I'm with a very large group. Maybe I'm too forgiving...I dunno. The food was good. Pretty standard hibachi fare. As usual I only managed to eat half my food. We did encounter one issue that I considered knocking a star off for, but I don't think it's an issue for most people. We had one girl at our table with a shellfish allergy and she did end up getting sick. Thankfully she was mostly okay. I'm not sure if it was because they cooked all of the shellfish right in front of her our if she ended up getting some contaminated food. They did bring her a separate plate from the back, but obviously that didn't make a difference. So if you've got food allergies, be careful. read more

This is my sushi craving fix go-to place. I've been coming here for the past two years, and the decor has changed as well as what they offer in terms of food. Example, they added a hibachi within the last year. Anyways, I've never ordered from the menu, always here for the sushi buffet. The prices have increased, but currently lunch is $17.99 and dinner is $22.99. I've never had problems with service and I've been here multiple times. I wish I knew the wait staff's names but they for sure know their regulars. They're very kind and mindful. There was only one time when our wait for our food was longer than usual, and our waiter recognized that, apologized, and the manager also came to our table and offered the gentlemen we were eating with discount cards for 15%, which we got to use that night. The hostess didn't seen okay with that, and was directing us to the hibachi seating area. We decided that we wanted to do regular. Service: took the server a while to attend us. She was funny though. At the end she ended up being really nice. Held a conversation with us when we were the last ones left. Food: I had ordered a Thai iced tea with tapioca. I got the tea and no balls. Bf's rice was good. Sushi was good. My pad thai however had HARD noodles. They took it back and made a new one, much better. Overall: I've been to better places. i like to think that my good qualities outweigh my bad, but the worst quality about me is the fact that i hate trying new things. don't get me wrong, i love to try new restaurants but i'll only order things that are familiar or that i've had somewhere else. my husband hates that about me and usually forces me to try whatever new/outrageous that he's ordered. so when we found this restaurant after going to the movies down the street, i was super stoked. a cool restaurant in matteson? who woulda thunk?! i was all set to order what i normally order at chinese food places- fried rice or chow mein with some crab rangoons. my husband decides he wants to order some "rolls" (i really had no idea what the heck they were and was ridiculously scared of what was going to appear in front of us.) he ordered the crunchy crab roll and the spicy tuna maki and so we decided that we'd split them as an appetizer. i have to say that stepping outside of the box really paid off this time. i preferred the crunchy crab to the spicy tuna mainly just because of the texture. i almost wish we would have ordered another one for the road. both rolls were pretty filling so we ordered the shrimp pad thai to split. i wasn't really a fan of that, but my husband loved it. when we got the bill and found it was only $27, i was elated. i've already told a few friends about it and will definitely come back soon-- actually i plan on going back later this week. maybe next time, i'll try the hibachi grill. read more

I was really shocked how much I enjoyed this place. My friend suggested it for dinner one night. I wouldn't of ever given it a second thought, but I'm glad she told me about it. I ended up beating her by about 30 minutes so I sat at the bar and had a glass of wine first. The wine was on sale for $4 a glass that night. I think it was a Thursday. They had several other drink specials too. The service was very friendly. We were not easy to deal with this particular night and they were patient. We just had lots of special requests and then another friend join us much later in the evening. They handled everything well. We started with crab rangoon. It was cooked and filled perfectly. My friends ordered some Chinese dishes and sushi. They ate everything up. The food was all presented nicely. I ordered a teriyaki steak. It was so good. The steak was tender and had an excellent flavor. I was shocked at the quality given the low prices. The only negative I can say is the hibachi tables were pretty noisy. The noise did travel through the restaurant. It didn't bother me, but I could see how it would bother some people. read more

Went for lunch wih a party of 17. The place has a great vibe! They have a sushi buffet ($18.99) and a chinese buffet ($9.99) on the weekends. You order the sushi from a huge menu and they make it fresh (it is not sitting out on a buffet table). All the food was great! Some of us had sushi, chinese, thai - portions were large, but the quality of the ingrediants were great. Service was seriously lacking - we had 2 servers dedicated to our party, but they still couldn't get the orders straight. It took a vey long time for them to make the sushi & bring it out. She gave us our menus, then came back .00563 secs later & TOLD US (yes told), are we ready to order. She talked over us the entire time. I am on a special meat diet so anytime I can find a Chinese buffet for a good price with plenty of options, I am happy. I used to go to another Chinese buffet that was a cuple of miles from my office. It went out of business around Thanksgiving so I found another Chinese hole in the wall place that was more expensive and nowhere near as good. By chance, a lady in my office was leaving and we had a going away party for her at this place. It is only like 200 yards from my office. The buffet was really good and had tons of options. The food was good, hot, and fresh. I have gone back on two other occasions (today in fact) and had the same experience. This places does other things than a buffet, but that is all I have used so that is all I can write about. read more

It started out not so well from the moment we were seated at the hibatchi grill. We were told to hurry and order because the group that was already seated had been waiting a long time for us. I told the waitress Jenny that we were not with them and she said she knows but hurry and order since they've been waiting so long. The grilling area was freezing cold and even the other patrons asked her if she could turn up the heat. Some people were eating with their coats on. I ordered steak and chicken Hibatchi style. The steak was bland the fried rice was just okay. The worse was the chicken, the chef poured teriyaki sauce all over my chicken and cooked it that way. Gross I hate anything with teriyaki sauce! I don't what those two sauces were because they weren't good. We spent $125 for 4 adults and one kid. Definitely not worth it. And we had to ask Jenny about our dessert. She wasn't going to give it to us because she had brought me the check even though my hubby was sitting right next to me! The scoops of ice cream was so small even my 8 year old asked was this a joke! Will never go back, I'd rather drive to Indiana to Lincoln Highway and Route 41. read more

Wow. Where do I begin? First impressions are everything and A Fusion left a HORRIBLE initial impression on me. Even though the food was decent (nothing spectacular) I'll never return. I went to A Fusion as part of a group of eleven. We had a reservation for 6pm but most of the party arrived at 5:45pm. We were told that we couldn't be seated until everyone arrived. Fine. Many restaurants have that policy so that wasn't an issue. By 6:05pm everyone had arrived and we were told it'd be a 5 minute wait. At 6:30pm we were still waiting to be seated. The excuse was that they were waiting for a particular table for us. Huh? Isn't that the purpose of making a reservation? The restaurant's staff claimed that there was only one table to accommodate such a large party. Umm.. ok.. that means you should be extra vigilant ensuring that the table is available for the party that reserved it! Otherwise what's the point of even taking reservations? Anyway, we finally get seated around 6:45pm after resisting the urge to leave. The habachi station sits about 18 people but there were only 14 of us so we were only afforded one chef. That meant that the meal took forever to make it to the plate. We started with fried rice and nearly 30 minutes later with the good stuff (meat). By that point I had filled up on rice. I was starving and found it hard to hold out until my entire plate was full with rice, veggies and meat. There should be two chef's at all time in my opinion to prevent stagnation. When you sit down to eat you want to eat proportionally, not one dish at a time. The food was decent but nothing spectacular. I've had better habachi at both Ron of Japan & Hamada of Japan. A Fusion is like a watered down moderately cheaper version of those restaurants. The rice was good but I didn't really care for the veggies. There wasn't enough broccoli in my opinion. I didn't have the noodles but more than a few people in my party didn't care for them. The one thing I will say is that the meat seemed to be good quality. I ordered the chicken and steak but had some shrimp off someone else's plate. The steak was much too salty but otherwise delicious. If I had the choice I'd order all steak in retrospect. It was that good. Tender, juicy and seasoned well. Again, they could use alot less salt. The chicken was good too but not as tasty as the steak. I liked the shrimp too. I'm always skeptical of eating seafood in unfamiliar establishments but it turned out to be fine. The portion size was so large that I was able to eat leftovers for two days straight. Ice cream is also included in the price of the meal. The service ended up being ok after we were seated but there's no excuse for the staff dropping the ball at the start of our experience at A Fusion. The waitress was pleasant, attentive and effective. The chef wasn't overly social but he was nice enough. Not everyone is meant to be a chatty cathy. The bill had to be paid either on one check or it could be split 3 ways. There were 3 people on my bill and it was $92. YIKES! For that kind of money A Fusion needs to tighten up their operations in my opinion. There's no excuse for customers having poor experiences when you're shelling out $100 for 3 people. A 15% tip is included for large parties. Too bad for the waitress because she would've gotten a 20% tip if the choice hadn't been made for us. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated but dated. It didn't look like the photos I saw online. I doubt I'll ever return to A Fusion. It struck me more as an acceptable option rather than a desired destination. read more

Honestly some of the best sushi I've had. The Mexican Roll and the Kiss of Fire roll are my favorites. The unlimited sushi is awesome because it's not like a buffet where it is all prepared ahead of time (which would creep me out with sushi) but it's made to order. For some reason, I think it was the texture, I didn't like the spicy tuna roll there which is one of my usual go-to sushi rolls. But everything else more than made up for it. I really liked the amount of options for the all you can eat menu. Most sushi places only have special prices on certain items and they are usually just classic rolls. Their menu is enormous and you can even get soup or edamame(sp?) with the all you can eat! The service is hit or miss.
