the bartender Jenni is an absolute delight. i like to come on Tuesdays for her superb service. she is also very cute. Food is wonderful.

We placed a takeout order. Everything was packaged nicely, the temperature of the food was perfect, and I was really looking forward to trying their fried fish (not their fish fry, but a fried fish filet). It was salty to the point of inedible. I don't know if the chef had a bad day and messed up the seasoning mix for the fish or if that's their regular spice mix, but I literally could not eat it. I took one bite and thought maybe my taste buds were off. Took a second and that was it. This was a thin filet and it was impossible to scrape any of the seasoning off. I was incredibly disappointed because the rest of our food was good. Our chicken wings were good. (Not great, but good. I have no idea what kind of sauce they gave us because we weren't given an option, but I think it was a ranch/pickle juice combo?) We highly recommend their tomato soup and their mashed potatoes. We would try this place again, but probably would avoid the fish and stick to a sandwich. read more

I don't understand why this place does not rank better. It's was so delicious! At first when we opened up our nicely organized bag it looked like the portions weren't very large. A $10 cheese curds is only half the size of the large Culver's n I only got 2 pieces of Perch for $17 but it was so worth every penny. I had the best potato pancakes I've ever had and I've had a lot in my life and I think their apple sauce was even homemade! All of our dishes were perfectly seasoned. We ordered wings, cheese curds, burgers, wings, regular and waffle fries, perch, white fish and did I mention potato pancakes with their amazing applesauce and I would recommend them all. We've been living here for 3 years and finally found a restaurant that I can't wait to dine at when we reopen our local bar and restaurants. I will start this off by saying I absolutely love the food. When it's made well. My favourite staple is the AJ O Brady burger, and let me tell ya, when it's on it's ON. But when the patty is charred to the point of tasting burned, it kinda kills it. Overall, I will always make my way here a few times a year, but consistency in their food quality and staff attentiveness need an improvement. This was the 1st time we've ever tried A J O'Brady's. I have to say that I had high hopes. We walked in about 6pm on Thursday and they were having an Irish Toast. I thought that was pretty neat and was so excited to try this place. It took quite a while to be acknowledged by our waitress or to get a drink. We drove over an hour to get there so we were ready for a beverage. Jessica K was our waitress and from the beginning, she wasn't very friendly which was a bit off putting. It not only didn't get better but she was also never visable nor did she make sure our glasses were full. We asked for extra napkins and she brought ONE. We started with bowls of the Chicken Dumpling soup which we were excited to try since it's normally our favorite soup at restaurants. When Jessica brought them, we had these big bowls of soup with 1 cracker each. I asked for more crackers for both of us and she brought ONE package and walked away before I could ask for another for my husband... It was really like pulling teeth to get anything. We felt like we were bothering her. The soup- it tasted like canned Progresso Chicken Dumpling soup. My husband was pulling the chicken up out of the soup and said "THIS is canned chicken". I don't know if that is correct...but the whole thing tasted like a can. Next, our dinner- my husband ordered the Galway City Pasta which he felt was just "ok". I ordered the CNC (Corned Beef and Cabbage). I have to say the corned beef was very tender and had a good flavor. HOWEVER, they smothered it in this very salty weird gravy. I'm NOT used to gravy on my corned beef and I don't like it all all! I was digging under the gravy to try to find edible pieces without it. The worst part was that and the bread were the only edible things on the plate. The Cabbage and potatoes weren't cooked through. I had only a butter knife and couldn't get through the cabbage and the red potatoes were actually hard and crisp like they cooked them for 5 minutes to get them hot and put them on the plate. Have you every had raw potatoes? Well I just had a bite and it's not good. I don't know if this was a really off day or what. IF the service was good...or at least friendly, I MAY try it again without the soup, without the gravy on the corned beef....ask them to cook the potatoes and.....never mind. Worst experience I have ever had. I went on a tuesday during $1 burger night. I waited 45 minutes to get a burger that was RAW and the bun was black and burnt. I ordered it with bacon and extra chesse. Neither where included I complained to waiter and she rolled her eyes and walked way. I had to wait 20 extra minutes to flag down the waiter. If your idea of a Friday is being a great mood, going out to dinner and being pissed off for the rest of the night... this is your place. - 5 min wait actually means 45 minutes (probably not that unusual). - Order a beer from the waitress, get it 30 min later after you reminded her you ordered a beer. - Order water, never get it until you remind her after the bill arrives. - Order soup, never get it. After your dinner is there, ask another waiter for it as your waitress is dodging you. - Order dinner for your daughter, never get it. After everyone else ate and after asking why... "we're out, want a salad?" - Best of all... charging you for everything. Get indigent when you point out you never got everything. Food... OK at best. This place isn't bad, I went here for lunch recently. I had a chicken sandwich with some fries, it was pretty good. They were a little stingy on the fries though and the sandwich was a little on the small side. The service was enjoyable and I got my refills quickly. I had a groupon so I ordered some wings to go which is why I have to dock my score down. I went back to work to put the wings away, but thought I would try one to see how they are fresh. i got one of the thai chili and another of parm garlic. They didn't look great to start, the thai having very little of the sauce on the outside and the parm garlic ones had the same color, but it looked like someone sprinkled a little bit of the powdered parm on them. They tasted like frozen wings and they didn't include ranch or any other veggies which was a bit irritating. To be fair they had the all you can eat wing night later that day, so maybe the quality drops to accommodate that. Either way kind of disappointing, kind of a mixed bag with what I got dine in and what I had received for take out. I would say stick to the sandwiches. Today was the 10th time I have been here for brunch, lunch and dinner, be it with friends or on a date night with the wife over the last six months. 95 percent of the time we have received very prompt service and orders received were correct; but there were a few times that this wasn't the case. However, our visit today was awesome, and our server (I was late arriving so I didn't get her name) was very engaging and upbeat. As a former server in high school and afterwards, off an on for about a total of 6 years even with a full time job, I really do appreciate a server whom is engaging and as such will be tipped well over the standard, today was no different. My friends ordered two dishes that feature AJ O'Brady's corned beef in their breakfast dishes. Always a good call, also the restaurant offers Irish Nachos which are topped with corned beef, delicious! I had ordered biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs, which comes with potatoes as a side. The biscuits were soft and fluffy and the rosemary potatoes are always good. The gravy seemed to be a high quality packaged product, which is a disappointment, as it is not difficult to make a decent gravy from scratch, this could be another signature item! Although the gravy is so much better than another local restaurant just down the road. This is a great local pub/grill with good food and service, and please note the there is a build your own bloody Mary option on Sunday. As an added opinion, as this website is, if you know what from scratch gravy tastes like, you may want to avoid this menu item. It's not bad, give it a try, again it's my opinion. read more

I've visited A.J. O'Brady's and A.J. O'Brady's Live per the request of friends on several occasions. The original A.J. O'Brady's has more of your typical townie bar feel and was packed with patrons of a wide range of ages. Overall, a younger suburban crowd. The service was average and the drink selection was nothing exotic - again, average. It was a Friday and the place smelled VERY strongly of fried food and fish. Someone may have burned said fish on top of that, which made me take several breaks for air. I returned home at the end of the night to wash the food smell out of my clothing. A.J. O'Brady's Live is across the street and a different look and feel. It used to be a coffee shop turned wine bar turned regular bar. They offer live music on a regular basis. The acts tend to be solo artists of small groups varying from acoustic guitar to one-man-keyboard band taking requests. The crowd is more mature but also distinctly suburban. The drink list is a little more varied - some entry craft beers, several wines and signature cocktails. The volume is typically not one that lends well to conversation when the live music is present. It sometimes takes several requests to find a drink that is featured on the menu that they *actually* have available for you to drink. Perhaps a rotating menu would be more customer and server friendly? Some of my friends swear by this place. There is something to be said for a place within walking distance that is comfortable and have the items you consume on a regular basis. For me, it is a bit out of the way and usually does not satisfy. Frankly, it is not my scene and I will just appreciate it for what it is. They may be able to elevate to three stars if I could hear the person sitting next to me, order something "in stock" on the first try off the menu I was given and not leave smelling like a frier. Looking for lunch while out of town on a weekend, we happened into A J O'Brady's. The decor was simple - no collectibles from Ireland lining shelves and walls, just a cozy Wisconsin tavern with a wall o' large TVs. I selected the Limerick sandwich - mixed greens on juicy chicken breast topped with Irish cheddar cheese and Guinness mustard on a soft pretzel bun. I couldn't taste the mustard sauce, I wonder if it was forgotten, or just soaked in so I ordered a side of that, which was good. The sandwich was served with homemade chips. I noticed that the bar did have appropriate logoed beer glasses for the beer they served: Smithwick, Guinness and Miller Lite, but didn't appear to be particular about which glass they served the beer in as both of our Miller Lites were served in other branded glasses. No worries, the beer tasted fine! The bartender who waited on us was friendly and checked in with us often enough to keep us happy but not so much as to be bothersome. I did notice some good specials posted on the wall for various nights. If I was nearby, I'm sure I would be back to take advantage of those! read more

This is my second visit there I went there for a fish fry I have to say it was the worst fish fry that I've ever had I was there with my family from out of town While we were sitting here having cocktails and spending money. Great for what it is, a local suburban bar. Given this is so close to home I get here more often than I would if I had to travel. In the Falls its hard to find a bar that's clean and doesn't give off that terrible townie feel to it. Most nights AJs avoids this; and that alone makes them the best place in the area. The crowds vary greatly in age and a few nights a week Tues/Fri/Sat this place can be jam packed around dinner time giving a wait for seating. They have daily specials (Tues is $1 burgers) that are a pretty good deal with the food being slightly elevated bar fare with an Irish twist to it. The Friday fish fry is solid and I drop in for it frequently. The burgers are large and typically good. The ruebens are good, but don't hold a candle to McBob's. The biggest issue I have here is the inconsistency in the service. They've gone through a few management changes and staff churn with it. Sometimes the service is great, sometimes a bit slow and inattentive. The main bar has a sports bar theme with flat screens lining the walls. They play most local football and baseball games as well as a soccer following. Parking is available on street as well as in a private lot behind the building. On the busy nights these will fill up and additional parking is available in a city lot behind the bank across the street. read more

Ah yes, home cooking. My Ma's a great Italian cook. pasta, sauce, lasagna, garlic beans or broccoli, pizza. Only thing is... she couldn't cook steak (sorry Ma), always tough, choosing a poor cut of meat, lots of grizzle, in her defense she bought what we could afford. My steak at O'Brady's reminded me of Ma's home cooked steak. Went to AJ's for Fathers Day. Was there a month ago and had a really great burger. thought I'd try the steak, their 12 oz. Black and Blue ($17.49 + $1.00 for mushrooms and onions) certified Angus beef New York strip. My daughter ordered the Drunken Irishman ($18.49), also a NY strip (med. rare). Both were tough, not tasty, complete with grizzle and fat. Her's was ¼ fat and grizzle. When she was done her plate looked like she didn't finish her meal. The waitress paused when she took the plate away but did not want to ask, "how was the steak". I will go back to AJ's but never for steak. I should have known better, it's a local bar/restaurant, not known for their steak. So even though this is not a flattering review I would still recommend for hamburgers... just don't order a steak! read more

I've been searching for a really good fish fry within a short distance from home. (Any good fish fry I've found in my travels, so far, is in Upnorth, Wisconsin.) This week was A.J. O'Brady's turn in my crucible. This is a bar/restaurant right in town, in fact, right across the street from the dammed Menomonee River "Falls" that makes the name of the town. There is some street parking but there is also a private lot immediately behind the building and a large municipal lot adjacent to Lime Kiln Park. I was unable to check into Yelp as there is virtually no cell reception inside the building. There is available WiFi but I had no clue of how to get into it, and my less than tech-savvy waitress was no help, so I just gave up. One shouldn't be on a cell phone in a restaurant, anyway! The front door is your entree to the bar, with dollar bills stuck to the ceiling and a wall of large televisions that had every available sporting event on them. A long tapper is worth studying to see what popular brands are on tap. We had a very short wait for a table, in fact, hardly enough time to order a beer for an aperitif. The dining room is cozy and inviting, the walls are not lined with Irish memorabilia, it's more like your favorite uncle's living room. We ordered the cod fish fry, which comes with Guinness battered fish. We also order potato pancakes, a requirement for a good fish fry, IMHO. I ordered French Onion Soup, my dining mate ordered a salad. She consumed her salad quickly. Meanwhile, I waded through a thick platform of croutons, covered with a bit of cheese, into a canned beef broth with fresh onions. The onions were good, the rest of it was average. Dinner came quickly and the Guinness batter makes for a very interesting texture and taste that I enjoyed. The fish seemed dry to my taste, my dinner mate said hers was fine. The potato pancakes were too thick and as a result, slightly underdone. Not to my taste, mind you, but some people do seem to like them that way. The portions were just right, I wound up taking about half of mine home (but I don't eat much, either.) I intend to revisit to sample other items on the menu as A.J. I recently had a business lunch here, and this is quite a nice option to have in Menomonee Falls. My partners had the soup and salad and rueben, and they both enjoyed their meals. I, however, opted for a salad and wasn't so impressed. For eight bucks (and four more to add chicken! jeez!), I expected more. It was good and all, especially the fried green beans, but it was just way too small to be eight dollars' worth of food, especially compared with the prices for other items on their menu. Then, about a year later I am asking for some advice on a good fish fry in the Falls and someone recommends this place. I mention my forgettable meal and they encourage me to give it another shot. the place is not fancy or super nice. kind of like a bowling alley bar vibe. a lot of tv's and dollar bills taped to the ceiling and loads and loads of beer signage. I was really ready to be unimpressed again. The place was packed so our waitress was busy, but she still did a decent job. I asked her what to get and she said (without missing a beat) "Pan fried all you can eat and potato pancakes." Done. Others at the table made different choices, but the Pan fried was the best. Absolutely perfectly cooked and seasoned. The traditional beer battered was serviceable (B-/C+) but certainly not close to what I had. Three of the four in our party had the fish fry, the other is a meat eater and had the burger. From all accounts the burger looked great and the report was that it was very good. Unfortunately cant say the same for the fish, to the point where I asked to speak to the manager. I conveyed my concern that I actually bit into a piece of raw fish, not to mention that the french onion soup was luke warm and returned to the kitchen. My wife and I have been here before for the $1 burger night where as long as you buy a drink your burger is 1$ and then $0.50 or so per topping. This is a phenomenal deal and though the burgers aren't great, you get what you pay for and the cost benefit totally is worth it. Today I had the fish fry and my wife the corned beef. The corned beef was nicely cooked and you could taste the beer it had been cooked in. It fell apart a little too much for my taste into tiny chunks. The cabbage was cooked beautifully and tasted very fresh. My fish was saithe which according to the web is another term for pollack. They serve it 3 ways, pan fried, deep fried, and baked. I tried the pan fried first and the crust was nice a thin, but the fish was kind of mushy and I couldn't describe the taste. I next tried the deep fried and the crust was much thicker. The fish was cooked beautifully, firm, moist. Unfortunately though I still couldn't taste the fish because the deep fried coating was too salty. Not unpleasant salty but just salty enough to cover up the taste of the fish. For $10 for auce though I was happy enough. Overall, the price point for the deals is just right for filling, good grub. The reuben is really where it's at with this place. For that I would say five stars. I've had the bacon grilled cheese sandwich and the bacon was inedible. So greasy, not cooked and honestly gross. I'm giving this two stars instead of one simply because the food I've gotten here is not what they specialize in. I've been burned here twice since I moved here. Their chicken appetizers are horrible. I've gotten the chicken tenders and the wings on separate occasions. The chicken tenders are supposedly "hand battered" but I don't believe it. The chicken is rubbery and I think frozen and nothing about the batter tastes or looks hands bartered. They seem like Tyson chicken tenders. The wings are equally horrible. I got the fried bone in and believe they were also frozen. They were exactly like the ones I used to get at my high school cafeteria. Had a thick layer of soggy batter and the chicken was full of fat and grizzle. Not much meat. Sauces were ok. I'd stay away from the chicken here.
