Vladimir from A L Affordable Air & Heat Inc came out to our home for an America Home Shield warranty service on our AC. It turned out to be a blown fuse (which I could have replaced myself with). Vladimir could have easily just replaced the 1(of 2) fuse and called it a day, but he didn't, he replaced both fuses since they looked like the original fuses installed from the late1970's. He also opened up the AC unit to make sure there was nothing causing the fuses to blow. He cleaned the condenser coils, turned the unit on, and checked the freon levels. I appreciate the extra work. The other positive was I put in the request through the American Home Shield's online system at 5:40pm on a Thursday, not expecting to get a response from the company until Friday maybe Monday. I received a phone call at 5:50pm the same day, and we scheduled the appointment between 9:00 am and 10:00 am the next day. Amazing! I really appreciate the fast response and great service. I am very disappointed in how I was recently treated by this business. I have been doing business with them for about four years. When I recently called to schedule my annual cleaning the 2nd of June, I could hear the frustration in the owner's voice that I had not called sooner as he was overwhelmed with calls as our temp had soared to over 100 degrees. I mentioned that I knew I was a bit behind, but it was beyond my control, he continued to sound annoyed with me, even suggesting I call another business. My AC was still running but had had a difficult time cooling my house when it was 105 outside so I felt I needed to have it serviced fairly soon. I was quite taken aback by his attitude with me. I have been a loyal customer who has referred them to several of my friends. Since I kept pressing him for an appt, he finally said he would schedule me for Thursday. After I hung up I received a text with an appt. for Wednesday with Danielle. It was my understanding that Danielle would clean the condenser, access the coolant level was appropriate and make sure there wasn't any issues with the unit. When he arrived, he hosed off the outside of the unit which I thought was a bit odd as when they had been out before they had done a very thorough cleaning by removing the sides. I asked if he was going to check the coolant level and he said he would. In the past they've checked this at the unit with a pressure check. He had me turn the unit on inside the house then he was using the breaker to turn it on and off. He told me the compressor was not running, only the fan which is why it wasn't keeping up with the increased outside temperature. He had what appeared to be a smallish metal object in his hand. He said he could use a hard start to start it. He did not explain what that was nor did he mention the cost of it. Although I knew it was an older unit, he did not tell me my compressor was in need of replacing and that it was on it' last leg. I figured it was something he sprayed on the motor to get it going. He asked if I wanted the hard start, I answered if that was the only way to get it going then yes. I then went back into the house. Shortly after he came into the house, asked me where my coolest vent was and proceeded to take the temperature with a probe after noting the temp of the house on the thermostat. He then told me that it was suppose to be a 20 degree difference and it was slightly higher. He said that was an indication that I needed coolant. I told him I thought he was checking that outside and he told me they no longer do it that way, instead they check it at the vents. I asked how much I needed and how much it would cost. he then started added my charges up to that point, outloud. He mentioned $169 and I had no idea what that was for. He said it was for the hard start. I was so shocked, I said "$169 to spray something in there!" He told me he didn't spray anything on it, that it was a part he installed, and I told him I had no idea what it was nor what the cost was as he didn't explain it to me. I then asked him if it only worked that one time and he expalined it works everytime the unit turns on. He also told me that it would extend the life of my condenser for 1-5 years. At that point i decided it was worth the cost. He them told me that I didn't need much coolant, I confirmed it was sold by the pound and he agreed to put in one pound saying that was all it needed and that it would make a large difference in the coolness of the air. He put that in then came back in the house and was going to check another vent to see if the air was cooler, I asked him to check the same vent he had initially. He did but did not tell me what the temp was. I asked if it was a significant increase and he said no, he then said it probably needed more which contradicted what he told me initally. I told him I didn't want him to put in any more at $219 a pound. He then told me that the condenser was making strange noises and that he thought it was on its way out. I was shocked and at this point I didn't want to spend any more that the $469 I now owed him on a unit that may be giving out. He should have told me that to begin with so I could decide what the best course of action for me was. He gave me his father's card and suggested I call him for replacement cost. I did and was told not only was my unit dying, but it could also quit working at any time even with the repairs that were done. In addition, I was told it would be less costly to replace it quickly than to wait because some units with the same coolant requirements were still available but probably wouldn't be for much longer. I don't know if Daniele just wasn't experienced or knowingly mislead me into spending $469 on a unit that now needs replacing ASAP but I do feel like I was taken advantage of. Very disappointed to see they no longer value customers. read more

Great job! Replaced the motor on my condenser during the same visit and recharged my refrigerant. They had everything they need to get the job done with them. Daniel was very honest and he checked my coils and ensured I didn't need anything extra. It's hard finding honest businesses these days. My unit is over 20 years old and any other air conditioning company would push to replace it. If it's not broken, don't replace it. If I could leave 10 stars out of 5 I would!! HVAC system stopped working. Filed a a claim with my insurance and this is who they appointed. Service was AMAZING. Vlad was very communicative. Gave me expectations and even learned a thing or two while on site. He swapped out two items for me, motor was bad so had to be placed on order. Daniel came to do the install, I had messaged the main person ahead of time saying I could remotely unlock doors if needed, everything was swapped quickly and left the ac running as I asked! One thing I'd like to add, I filed a claim at 9a. Messaged the company by 11a explaining I needed the job expedited because we have a 2 year old in the house. Company communicated everyone was in the field at the moment but he'd look at his schedule for the first available associate. By 2p I was messaged that someone was coming in at 3p. I called these guys last night off of a recommendation from a friend. Our A/C wasn't blowing any air out of the vents but was still turning on. They showed up first thing this morning and had me fixed in about an hour. Vladimir took the time to take photo and video of the issues happening in the unit and explained to me what was needed to fix it. Our unit is SO OLD so I was nervous it would need to be replaced all together. But just some new parts and he even cleaned it up and topped off the fluids. Great company! I seem to have problems with my a/c every year. Through the years my home warranty company has sent multiple companies "fix" the problem...only to get me through another summer. Fortunately I requested A L Affordable out of the list of their vendors because I hadn't tried this company yet. I'm so glad I did. Technician came out and advised me my AC unit was fine even though I explained it wasn't cooling down and was extremely hot in my house. He put a hard start and left, but I could tell he was new bc he didn't seem to know what he was doing. He left and within an hour the unit stopped running outside, so I called the office and told them your tech didn't fix my unit left and it's not running. The office sent the same guy. I showed him it's not working. So he changed a part and it came on. And I asked him what about antifreeze so he said he'd add some. A few minutes later he said he'd have to come back tomorrow bc he didn't have the tool to add it. A few days later my AC unit wasn't working and it was 104 outside. I called the office and they couldn't get anyone out for several days which wasn't fair bc it wasn't my fault it wasn't working. Bottom line I called another company and surprise the 2 parts previously changed weren't the problem. The new guy fixed it and so far so good. read more

Great experience overall. Originally I had another company in town come out and take a look at my unit and he basically gave me no hope, said I need to just replace the whole HVAC unit. Was gonna cost me $5,500 through that company. I decided to call and get a second opinion with AL affordable which is a business owned and operated by 2 brothers, the technician sent over to my house gave me hope again. He told me the system I have is a bit old but still a quality unit and didn't need replacing just some more freon and battery. Went through my insurance company. Fireplace gas unit went out. Notify my insurance company it was a wall unit heating system as I figure it will be the same setup otherwise maybe they would of not cover it. When I met the tech I explain to him what the problem was and he was up for the challenge. Not very many companies would do that. After taking the unit apart he found what the problem was. Before he started to put the unit and wires together he spent a little extra time vacuuming out the system and removing dust that has built up over the years. Horrible service and compliance with CDPH requirements. Heater was working intermittently so we used our home owners warranty someone came out which took 5-6 days after initially calling. Service tech came to our house and walked in no mask, no booties, and my wife asked him to put a mask on since we have young children and both work with covid patients almost daily. The service tech threw his bag down went out got his mask and stomped back in with his ladder (current CDPH guidelines was for mask wearing indoors) tech was here for a few minutes told the wife just needed to wipe a sensor and left. Few days go by and heater is working intermittently again. So problem not fixed meanwhile it's been getting into the mid 30's at night. Called them back left a detailed message and request for work completed from previous "fix" on a service form. No call back no response and no heater working. Next call to the insurance company to make sure they aren't changing for something that has never been done. Wouldn't put it past them to beef up numbers/work done. If only negative star rating existed I would give -5star. read more

Wow, is the word that sums it up. This is a father and son crew. Their customer service is phenomenal. My home warranty company dispatched AL Affordable for my AC unit. I left two messages within one hour (impatient). Leonard called back with in two hours, very nice, and stated he could get me in the next day with a three hour window. Leonard came to my home today as the assigned contractor for a home warranty service call. He arrived early and went straight to work after talking about the problem I was having. After replacing a part he noticed some other work that could be done to improve the functionality of the unit. He took it upon himself to call my home warranty company and found out that maintenance on the unit was covered. Instead of replacing the unit and getting the unit to a working state he spent an additional hour and a half getting the unit to its optimal working condition.
