Located near the Market Grill, this spot had a pretty long line when we visited. We ordered the clam chowder and the mac & cheese pie. The clam chowder came out quickly, while the mac & cheese pie took a bit longer. The clam chowder was definitely the highlight. It was creamy, loaded with clams, but the real standout was the buttery, flaky crust. It was so good. Unfortunately, the mac & cheese pie was disappointing. It was dry, bland, and lacked the creamy, cheesy flavor I was hoping for. Overall, I'd come back for the clam chowder, but I'd skip the mac & cheese pie.
The clam chowder puff pot pie was so good! Never had anything like it before. I wish there was more clam in it, but loved the flaky pastry crust. Stabbing it with a spoon and seeing the hot, steamy calm chowder come up with the spoon was glorious. Love how the pastry crust just melted in the soup and added that buttery taste to it. My friend and I inhaled this in minutes.

Seating is first come inside (or there's outside too). So so yummy!!
We ordered the turkey and cheese croissant, disappointed when we noticed the lettuce was unwashed and still had dirt on it. We then noticed a hair in the lettuce! When they remade the croissant for us there was still more dirt and a fly on the lettuce. We also ordered the shepherds pie, but for the price and size it wasn't worth it. 20 dollars for a small pie and a lackluster soggy salad made it a pretty terrible experience.
Service was quick and attentive from the counter. Pie crust was flaky and crispy, stew was nicely cooked through,rich and smelled beefy. Mocha was alright. On par with a Starbucks mocha. Total was 26.00 for both items A bit on the pricier side but you are paying for the Granville island vibe and scenery....
Definitely my favorite bite of the day at Granville Public Market! It's located closest to the entrance by the Aquabus so you can have a great view of the water with your choice of a sweet or savory pie (why not both?) I ordered the clam chowder pot pie ($17.64 CAD) which were selling like hot cakes. In fact the person in front of me ordered the last one on display, so I had to wait for another fresh batch out the oven, which only took about 5-10 minutes. The clam chowder was wonderful, creamy with a distinct oceanic savoriness and chock full of baby clams and potatoes. I have to admit, this was one of the best clam chowders I've ever had, and I've had many from Neptune Oyster to Pike Place Chowder. The golden-brown layer of puff pastry on top was flaky perfection and the cherry on top. I'd really like to return to try their other pot pies, and perhaps a sweet one as well (why not?).
This place is smoking!! It's so smoking that the compost spoon melted/bent a bit when put in the steaming salmon chowder. It's all good. That's why they provide metal spoons! How many metal spoons they got!! Well it's def environmentally friendly. Why this place only got 3.5 stars? Are people complaining about the bread bowl? Are their other warez not up to stuff? For a 'cafe', it's not bad. In fact it's quite good. Tho this review is mostly for the pies. So without further ado... We also got the traditional clam chowder. Everything was quite yummy! Tho it's not served in a bread bowl yet the fluffy pastry on top is legit! Or lit. Or groovy. Whatever generational term you wanna use, it don't matter. It hands down beat the traditional sourdough bread bowl. Also this place might be better than that other place at Pikes Place over in the states. Yah I said it. Come at me bro!! I think the price is worth it. The ambiance/vibe is packing! The salmon chowder sells out quick so make sure you get yours! Maybe even pay ahead of time so that you would get yours when it comes out. I would definitely go back. And it's got more seating than the one in the states. Also they got lemon meringue pies! And other stuff too. It ain't just a one trick pony! Solid A+
I've had some great food visiting Vancouver but after eating this I've officially declared it a food city! Had the delicious chicken pot pie- it was perfect. Crust was flaky and soft but never soggy. The soup was the perfect soup temperature that you could mathematically assign; like a perfect bath but in your mouth. The chicken pieces were full and tender. If I could have canceled my dinner reservation in 90 minutes- I would have gotten a second one. I don't regret the first.

Even at 4pm on a Saturday, the Public Market was pretty packed. No line at this place though. The clam chowder was different than what I'm used to but not bad by any means. Lots of clam meat, subtle smokiness to the chowder, flaky puff pastry pie shell. I prefer my chowder thicker and brinier. It came out lukewarm and thin. Butter tart was just served as-is off the shelf. It might get another star from me if both were piping hot. 3/5 average spot. Probably better food options around the market.
One of the more interesting stands inside the Granville Island Public Market because they sell chowder pot pies with puff pastry on top! We got the salmon chowder and I found it a bit too salty since they use smoked salmon. If I'm ever back I'll probably get the clam chowder instead. Loved breaking the puff pastry into the chowder and forming that delicious combination of flavors! It's a heavy dish so highly recommend sharing with others. Price is ok given the taste, big portions, and ingenuity.

I visited Ala mode cafe again to try Kool fest limited item! What I tried: Nanaimo to Saskatoon Berry Bar Blast Trip A refreshing iced Saskatoon mint lemonade featuring vibrant Purple berry layers in an Arnold Palmer - style gradient . Finished with Fluffy Salty cream cloud, whipped cream top and Maple leaf shaped Nanaimo Bar garnish for distinctly Canadian touch. with delicate rose shaped puff pastry filled with sweet tart saskatoon berries and silky custard cream. Iced lemonade had a lot of berry at the bottom. It was very sweet side, paired well with light lemonade. It was surprisingly good with whipped cream on the top. Rose shaped pastry had berry filling which was just ok. Maple leaf shaped nanaimo bar was very good. It was another very sweet item, but this item stood out. I liked subtle balance of salty and sweet flavor. Overall, presentation was great as usual. Their idea, creativity was outstanding. And I found they displayed world cup themed soccer ball pastries which were so attractive! Highly recommend to try their limited item, world cup themed items and also regular items. read more
There was a line at 1:00pm on a Sunday but it moved pretty quickly. We got the chicken pot pie and the beef shepherd's pie. The chicken pot pie came out immediately and was piping hot & delicious - I loved the flaky crust. The shepherd's pie had good flavor, but unfortunately it came out cold despite waiting about 10mins for it. It's quite difficult to find seating inside the market, but we managed to snag a table by the window. read more

We ordered the turkey and cheese croissant, disappointed when we noticed the lettuce was unwashed and still had dirt on it. We then noticed a hair in the lettuce! When they remade the croissant for us there was still more dirt and a fly on the lettuce. Solid clam chowder. Soup was balanced, not too rich. Potatoes and clams were properly cooked inside. Pastry top was crispy, flaky, and soft. No issues with service. Decent amount of seating with a nice view of the harbor. read more

Clam chowder is thinner than normal, but filled with flavor. The breading on top is flakes and firm enough that ot doesn't get soggy when dipping. Be carefull, they serve the chowder inappropriately too hot. My wife literally had burn marks on her lips when trying the first bite. It takes minutes to cool down because the cups are kept in some oven for long periods of time. Located in the marketplace so find seating anywhere you can. read more
Chicken pot pie is one of my fav food. The pastry on top elevated the dish quite nicely! Loved the soupy chicken pot pie. Perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Side note: friend ordered the clam chowder pastry one and we both agreed that chicken pot pie was the winner. read more
We are pretty mind blowned with how good this was! As tourist we were told to try this place when visiting Vancouver. It is located right in the market. I love the different choices of pies they have. It being baked in a mug was so eye pleasing. The salmon chowder was sooooo fricking bomb. I'm not even being dramatic, it was probably my favorite chowder I've ever eaten (and we're from WA)... from the puff pastry on the top to the thickness and creaminess of the chowder. I love that there was good size chunks of salmon in there. My bf got the chicken pot pie but I think she accidentally gave us the clam chowder. We didn't notice it until the last two bites, when we saw the clams in it. We were still really satisfied with it. The only complaints we have is that it looks like there's going to be a lot of chowder, but you break past the pastry and it has the smallest amount... for the price you pay I think they should fill the chowder much more. Also the mix up of chowders. read more

Chicken pot pie was delicious and piping hot! The crust was crumbly on top and fought inside. Need a bit more veggies and there was a lot of slurry but overall quite good. Would order again next time I'm here. read more
A large selection of sweet and savoury pies, with helpful, friendly service. I had a beef stew pot pie and enjoyed the flavour and warmth, but thought the texture was a little thin and there was not a lot of beef. The top was flaky and delicious. Not a huge portion. I would try here again but likely make a different selection. read more

Really cute place inside Granville island. It was our first stop for food. I loved all the available flavors including chicken pot pie and clam chowder. They ask if it's for here which mine was so curious how the takeout are packaged. Service was fast. The chowder was hot the top was flaky. Would recommend! read more
$16 flaky warm pot pie that serves abt one person to count as a full meal! the stand smelled AMAZING. i was a little confused bc they handed me a receipt after ordering but no number. i sat around for a little bit waiting. ended up approaching the pickup stand and telling them directly i ordered to immediately get one from the oven. very warm fresh soup, savoury broth. i loved breaking into the puff pastry top into a pot of soup with strings of cheese! read more
Stopped by to get a couple of slices of banana cream pie. I was #3 in line but they are pretty fast. Portion size was good. I felt this was a tad too sweet while my hubby felt it was just fine. I was hoping for more banana flavor but this didn't happen. Since this is at the public market, finding a table can be challenging during peak times. Their soups do look delicious, but I will come back for my soup fix next time. read more
Located in a 'farmers market' setting on Granville Island is super cute. This also means you're fighting for seats among other tourists. There is a large selection of pies. The savoury one are all topped with puff pastry! Clam chowder - My favourite clam chowder so far. Very creamy but also has plenty of seafood flavour. The pastry was super buttery a perfect pairing for the chowder. Very little potatoes at the bottom and lots of clams. Would get again. Pecan Pie - Very buttery and sweet filling, almost too sweet for me. Candied pecan was nice and crunchy. Crust was okay, but the edges of the crust was very think and uneven... Nice to try, might get another one next time. read more
i'm very surprised at how low this place is rated because honestly, this was one of the best and most memorable meal we ate on our vancouver trip. we both got the classic clam chowder pot pie bc you can't go wrong with that and was blown away. i loved the crispy yet thin texture on top and mixing it in with the chowder was perfect!! adds a new twist to the usual clam chowder that you'd get at piers. the chowder itself was also very hearty and warm. but then again, it's kind of hard to mess up clam chowder LOL. only downside is that the area it's in the market gets a bit cramped if you're there on a weekend or busy day but definitely worth lining up!!! we'll be back here first thing next time we go back to vancouver. read more
When there's constantly a long line (that somehow still moves at a good clip), you know you're in for good things. A La Mode specializes in ready-made soups and pies in handmade crust "bowls", with their French Onion soup being arguably the most popular. I was going to try out the Shepherd's Pie, but after having been told it would be a five minute wait, and I had to get back to the rest of my party, I went with the aforementioned perennial favorite, and I was not disappointed. A flaky, buttery layer of crust concealed the salty, cheesy, onion-y goodness within, hot and fresh. Most excellent! Having sampled this masterpiece, I can only assume that the Shepherd's Pie is as good or better, so I look forward to my next visit to the Granville Island Public Market, where I will correct the error forced by my own impatience! read more
Lovely pot pie store, always a line to order but it moves quickly due to the staffs are quick and friendly. I had the French onion soup and it was delicious, so far the best I've ever had, the pot pie crust was crispy and flaky, the soup was amazingly tasty, not too salty like the normal version I had elsewhere, it's just my type of soup. Delicius pies. A staple on every visit to granville market. One thing you will otice when visiting the farmers market is the large amount of people eating little pies on the pier here. They have all types of pies from savory to sweet available. The clam chowder is probably the most popular and honestly after trying them all. I do agree it is one of the best things here. The sauce is rich and creamy with chucnks of chicken and vegetables cooked perfectly tender. I just love the pies here and you can also buy some frozen ones at a fraction of the coat of buying one freshly cooked! read more
This was the perfect meal coming off the plane on a cloudy cold day. It came out piping hot - be aware it takes a few minutes to cool down. The crust is so yummy and crispy. As for the pie itself I thought it was good, but not great. A little too soupy for my liking. Overall it's a great spot in the market that'll warm you up! read more

We were at Granville Island, looking for a quick and tasty lunch. It was St. Patrick's Day so I was hoping to find some of the St. Patrick's Day specials that I had seen on Instagram but it turned out those were items that needed to be ordered in advance. No matter. Their pot pies looked yummy and as I didn't care to spend more time looking around for lunch, I decided I would still stick with A La Mode Pie for my lunch. Good thing I'm Pescatarian because they had completely run out of any Vegan or Vegetarian options that day, so I ended up ordering their Salmon Chowder Pot Pie. Mmm...it was so delicious! From the golden pastry topping, to the creamy soup, and the chunks of salmon inside. No regrets whatsoever with this dish. Would happily recommend it. All the same, I really do hope they will have some Vegan or Vegetarian options next time I'm there! Ordered the salmon chowder pot pie. Soup was creamy, had pieces of salmon and covered with the pie crust which was crispy and fresh. Soup was warm and delicious for a cold day. Must try! If salmon isn't your fancy, they have a variety of other pot pies or quiches available. Little pricey but it's located in the heart of the Granville public market. read more
They have sweet and savory pies! I tried the corn chowder! It was a perfect snack for a 45 F day! The corn was a little sweet and had some crunch to it. The pastry on top was flakey and chewy. Perfectly sized for a mid morning snack. Add a salad or a slice of savory pie for a full meal. read more

This place looked cute and all the dishes look tasty. Decided to try the chicken pot pie and the corn chowder. The corn chowder soup was delicious and the flaky crust was very soft and yummy. A great culinary experience. The public market is a must stop when visiting Vancouver. read more
This is probably the busiest place in the market since it is a well-known must-try restaurant. The clams are large and the puff pastry is crispy. When the pastry is dipped into the creamy chowder, it soaks up the creamy sauce and makes it even more enjoyable. Even though there's a long line, but the wait is still bearable. We waited for about 7 minutes. The staffs are quick, but not super friendly and patient (which I understand since they're busy all the time). There's not much indoor tables and chairs, so we had it outside. Be aware of the seagulls if you are eating outside! The seagulls and birds are not scared of human, they can get very aggressive for food. This place is worth a try if you enjoy clam chowder, or seek a place for food. read more

Freshly made and tasty. Not too heavy. Taste of the sea. What more does one want? Came here on a trip and we made a pit stop at Granville Island. Coming here, of course gotta have seafood! We grabbed the salmon chowder. And this didn't disappoint at all. read more
