We got chicken pot pies because that's the only type of pot pie available out of the 6 or 7 flavors which was DISAPPOINTING. I was trying to understand that it was a weekend lunch and they may be busy but I wish the turnaround for making the potpies and other baked goods were a lot more efficient/ faster with the amount of people visiting grandville island and the long lines which i suspect is reoccuring (based on other reviews) I liked the salad with the vinaigrette. Again, nothing spectacular. Food is pricey but I kinda expected that with Grandville Island being such an awesome tourist spot. They don't bake the full pies there even if it says it's a dollar upcharge for baking it (they should get that scratched up from their menu- again very disappointing) Service was awful- 1/5 Servers and cashier could not understand most of our requests. The one lady forgot my husband's tart (he was upset about this a lot). We tried asking for boba and lady completely ignored us. We just let it go 'cause we were so hungry and we just wanted out food. They were such in a rush , customer service was VERY MUCH LACKING. You can buy unbaked pies and take them home but I have no input with that since we did not try that. Hungry and wanna eat now? I took my lil sister to A la Mode for Yelp Elite sampler a while back. We went there on a Saturday I believe. This little gem is located inside the Granville island market. They make various pies, baked goods, pot pies etc. When I got there they gave me a mini berry pie, mini pot pie, and a small coffee complimentary. The pies were both delicious! However, I liked the pot pie better than the berry one. I would recommend you to try this place out but try not to drive because the parking situation is a nightmare . The only reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5 is because of their lackluster service. The lady who was minding the cash register seemed bothered by my order. We arrived at Granville Island Public Market ready to eat! We were overwhelmed by so many delicious choices, we could do nothing but walk in circles for the first 20 mins. Then I saw someone who had one of these culinary marvels on a tray, and I knew that we would be sharing one. We easily found A La Mode tucked nicely into a corner of the main eating venue. When I saw all of the choice, I'm pretty sure I had to take an active effort to close my mouth. The presentation of these mini pot pies was breathtaking. Each bowl is different depending on the filling inside (which is an adorable touch). I had a hard time deciding between the Corn Chowder and the Clam Chowder. Being from the Midwest, I hold Corn Chowder close to my heart. However, when you visit a city so close to the ocean, you kinda have to go with seafood...so Clam Chowder Pot Pie it was. I actually reeeeally liked everything I ordered from here. I got a mushroom tomato soup/pot pie. I loved the crust on top and the soup was delicious and creamy. Even though it tasted good, it also seemed like something I could easily make at home, by putting soup in a mug and then putting flaky pastry dough on top and baking it in the oven. The portion was also not that big considering the cost. I also ordered a tea with boba, and the boba was good quality, chewy, and soft. Well, one thing I didn't like that much was the rhubarb pie. I thought it was a little too sour, but my boyfriend loved it. So the only reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 4 is the HIGH price of food! My fiancé and I have been visiting A La Mode since we started dating 5 years ago. It's become one of "our places", though I never actually knew the name of this stall until last week. My favourite here is the salmon chowder pot pie. They are generous with the ingredients and the soup is flavourful but not too thick. I love the puff pastry on top because well, who doesn't love puff pastry? Unfortunately, they gave us two clam chowder pot pies instead of salmon chowder pot pies last week. What a line up of people and what a display of pies and cakes. The freezer was full of bowls adorned with lion heads, filled with pie goodies capped with pastry just waiting to go into the oven. Side by side to the meat pies stands rows of cheesecakes, fruit pies, flans, tarts...YUM! Oh what a diabetic nightmare but if you are going to go...well...there are worse ways. The pasty on the pot pie was flaky and golden brown, and the filling was deep in flavour with plenty of chunky goodness. All around me, people were knuckles deep into their pies and faced down as they tried to get every last drop and crumb. Love their treats but the prices are a little steep for what you get. So given that more than half of its original size is completely EMPTY, I definitely didn't think it was worth $10. The inside of the pot pie was alright, nothing special. For me, there wasn't enough crust to balance out the soupy inside. But with this dish, overall, I just felt cheated. My heart sank almost as fast as the pot pie deflated. The gooseberry tart wasn't good either. I had no idea what a gooseberry was until then. The berries themselves were alright, but the crust was severely lacking in flavor. It just tasted like sugar. The custard topping holding the berries to the crust was okay, and if you eat it with the crust, the combination isn't bad. But overall, this was pretty meh. Both the puff pastry and soup were delicious, the soup is more on the watery side for texture but it doesn't taste watered down. I think I'm just used to it being thicker but it could just be more cream or corn starch at other places. I would still suggest it but it doesn't come cheap, about $8 for a small bowl. Don't forget to bring the bowl back to the vendor since they don't use disposable utensils. This is located in the public market and on the side that looks more like where the markets and fresh produce are sold. The bowls are premade and kept in a warmer so you don't need to wait long for it. If you're not a fan of clam chower, they have other soups and desserts to choose from. read more

We stumbled upon A La Mode after walking around trying to figure out whats good to eat. I was drawn by the puffiness of the puff pastries. We've ordered the chicken, salmon, French onion and clam chowder pot pie. These were actually not really pot pies but more like soups with a puff pastries crust. Everything was too watered down. The salmon pot pie was too fishy, the chicken was very bland and the clam chowder did not have enough clams or potatoes. The French onion was the best tasting one out of the four.
