This may be the best pizza in Italy.....but I have no idea since we did not eat here. We WILL NOT EVER eat here based on how we were treated by the staff. We walked in to a door that was unlocked and a sign that said open....no one was in sight. I said Ciao and a young man (in his 20s) walked out and I said "Hi, are you open", as there were no people in the restaurant. His reply was "what do you think??? Dripping with sarcasm. I said "well, your door is open and the sign said open (yelp also said they were open) . He continued to say "what do you think". He could have been cordial and we would have happily returned when they are open. We will not return. There are too many great restaurants with welcoming staff to waste our time here. read more

By far, one of the best restaurants in Venice - 5 stars for great food and great service! We tried other restaurants that were said to have good pizza but the the pizza here was the best - soft home made dough with tons of flavor. We had lunch here and then came back the same day for dinner! The cheesecake with the blackberry was also fantastic - it was unique and a really great treat to top off the awesome food. The service - every server had welcoming smiles and a friendly charm. We came to the restaurant as one of the waiters was just about to flip the sign on the door to"Closed" but he saw us walking up and said "For you, I will open again." Simply the best meal for the money in Venice. We arrived and was greeted by who we believe is the owner. Very charming, affable, and energetic and proud of his menu. And rightfully so. Pretty much everything we ordered was great. From the numerous pizzas to select from, we ordered one with mushrooms and one with roasted pork to share as appetizer for our family of 5. We also ordered a fried cheese appetizer (my description does not give it justice) and we were very happy we did so. House wine was inexpensive and well worth it. Cabernet. Simple and complemented our dinner well. Pasta with lobster, another pasta with similar sauce and scampi, black spaghetti, noodles with shrimp and saffron. Again my description does not give it any justice. But we were all blown away by the perfect al dente preparation and the taste that makes you want to go back over and over again. All throughout dinner, the owner stopped by to make sure everything was great. We felt very special to say the least. We don't really remember the desserts because they were gone in about 5 seconds. Pretty good food. Compared to the 3 other places we went it was about average. They spoke good English, and the prices were fair. The bread was just okay and the restaurant was warm (however it was like 90 degrees outside). Service was friendly. I recommend the fettuccini with duck or the calzone. This was the last night in Venice, the only night we were able to make reservations! (Highly recommend reservations for most restaurants). It started out a little crazy, took the wrong waterbus... ended up having to speed walk 1.2 miles lol. We were 10 minutes late... they were understanding. This is a chic adorable restaurant, very local! It had live music playing! The only down fall was we were a little table against the wall by the bathroom. Every time a server needed to wait on the other table, we had to "think skinny" and pull the table close to us. The food though was amazing! I had the lobster pasta. Went by at 6 pm on a Monday night and we were fortunate to get the last reservation for the 7 pm seating when they open. The owner/chef took our reservation and then greeted us upon our return. The restaurant is clean, nice ambiance, friendly staff who understands and speaks English as needed. We ordered two pizzas and a calzone thinking they would be personal size based on price but when they arrived the pizzas were LARGE and the calzone mountain-sized (lots of dough). The pizza had fresh, fresh toppings but could haved used a bit more sauce to my liking. Toppings were generous. As we were dining, we saw many turned away as a walk-in or to make reservations... What an excellent place. Beautifully decorated, wonderful service and entertaining people working there. The head chef is an excellent person and makes sure everyone has a great dinner and will greet you personally. The food is the best I've had while in Venice and was just downright amazing. I got the Lobster Pasta, and I've got to say it was the best Lobster I've ever had as well. The drinks are also at an excellent price, we shared a bottle of prosecco for two people for only 15 euros. In most restaurants you can expect to pay quite a bit more by the bottle, but here it was all very well priced. Pasta plates range mostly from €10-€15, with the exception of the Lobster plate at €20 I believe. Might have been €18, not 100% sure anymore. All in all, this place left me satisfied and I know I will be coming back. Was a great experience in every aspect I can expect from a restaurant. read more

Great option for tourists and locals alike in Venice. Came here on an early December Saturday around noon and didn't need a lunch reservation. I ordered the squid ink pasta, a glass of the house white wine, and the tiramisu and all were incredibly well done. I wish the pasta absorbed a bit more flavor, but it was cooked perfectly and paired with just the right amount of cheese and mushroom. We had a fabulous meal here during our honeymoon. The decor was fairly modern, and the menu had a lot of variety, in terms of different pasta/sauce choices. There must have been close to 30 different pizza choices! The pasta choices included a few different spaghettis, three macaronis, gnocchi with your choice of 4 sauces - four cheese, bolognese, a marinara and something else - I can't remember! We both had gnocchi - mine was with bolognese and my wife had the four cheese. They were both delicious - perfectly sized dinner portions. My only complaint would be that it was quite warm inside. Rarely do I so strongly disagree with fellow yelpers, but the meal I had here was extremely disappointing. I could not in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. My boyfriend and I tried two of their pastas and neither of us could believe how poor they were. Apologies for the long review, but bear with me as I explain why everything was so poor. I had one chance to have dinner in Venice, since I wouldn't be in the city for long, and did my due diligence to find an affordance Italian restaurant with great reviews. I'll be the first to admit I came to A Le Tole with high hopes and an expectation for delicious food. We ordered the ravioli and the black spaghetti. The ricotta in the ravioli had a horrible gritty texture, the sauce was flavorless, and the pasta itself was poor because the edges of the ravioli were too thick to cook evenly. Yes, the portion is generous, but I'd rather have a small portion of scrumptious ravioli. The black spaghetti was flavorless (not mildly flavored to complement the seafood, just flavorless), the scallops were small bits that had to be chewed for minutes because they were so rubbery, and the sauce was gritty with no flavor. I slightly preferred the black spaghetti because at least the slices of asparagus were good and pasta itself was cooked properly. I was so disappointed to eat two dishes that somehow both had gritty textures as if there was sand in the ricotta cheese and in the sauce. There service was okay, but they forgot our bread basket and, in general, they were neither attentive nor prompt. We had to ask for the check a couple times and decline dessert multiple times. In the U.S., I would have brought my concerns directly to the restaurant and asked them to try my dish to see why I felt it was not good. However, because I don't speak Italian, I didn't do this and was worried that I would not be able to explain why I found the food disappointing. In conclusion, don't be lured in by the fresh pasta in the window. I am not sure how other yelpers had such an amazing experience. I can only hope we ended up their on a bad night, but if you have one meal to eat in Venice, I would not make it this place. The only redeeming quality was that the house red was delicious. I know 1 star is harsh, but both myself and my boyfriend have never walked away from a meal so disappointed. My boyfriend asked me multiple times if I was sure I had looked this place up and it had good reviews, because he couldn't believe the meal we had. read more

This restaurant was at the top of our list for Venice. A little warning though - either go early or later otherwise you will probably have a wait. Most importantly, the staff was amazing and didn't disappoint even if we had a lot of questions about what is good, what's not, etc. We enjoyed the duck fettuccine, ink pasta with scallops and cuddlefish, an amazingly fresh salad and the world's best tiramisu. A little piece of advice if you're about that Parmesan cheese: try the ink pasta without it first as it's not recommended. If it's still not to your liking then go ahead and add it but not before trying it out first. This restaurant is not hard to locate either as it is within a center/square. read more

We've eaten at a lot of fantastic and not so fantastic restaurants in our two weeks in Italy. This was the shining star of all pasta restaurants we ate at and it is worth seeking out. The pastas are homemade, their texture is perfect, and the taste is fantastic. Service is fast by Italian standards, regular by American standards. I had a squid ink spaghetti neri with scallops that was fantastic. My husband had the duck tagliatelle that was not only a generous portion but also had a substantial amount of duck in the succulent sauce. We also shared a pizza, which was far superior to any pizza we had in Venice and up the standards in Napoli. This place is off the main drag about a ten minute walk from Piazza San Marco but is the best restaurant we found in Venice. Tip: make a reservation because it is popular. read more

This was probably the best meal we had in Italy during our trip! We found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to check it out. While the location is not very easy to find (all the pins on the map are attached to some other buildings) it is worth the trip. The place was very busy, but the guy at the door was able to find us a little table by the kitchen entrance. They had a live music on Monday night and the ambience of the whole place was very fun and lively. We ordered a fried cheese appetizer with mushroom and honey. It was pretty good, maybe a bit too sweet for my taste. For the main course we shared lobster pasta and a pizza with a wild boar! Both dishes were outstanding! Pasta was homemade and cooked perfectly, the sauce was very balanced and the lobster was very delicious! Pizza had a red sauce (just like most of the pizza options on their menu). The wild boar meat was cured and sliced very thin and was accompanied by some other spicy cured meat and biggest chunks of fresh mozzarella! The service was very attentive from our waiter and everyone else in the restaurant. I will definitely recommend this place to any of my friends who come to Venice! read more

We were drawn in by the pastas display outside.. So we reserved our dinner at 2030.. We had to wait a bit more which was understandable because the restaurant was absolutely full. We ordered 5 pastas and 2 pizzas. Pizzas were okay, nothing too fancy or special. The pastas were REALLY BAD! Our two squid ink pasta were undercooked and was way too salty. The duck in our duck pasta was the worst duck we've ever had! Again, the dish was way too salty! Veal was okay, but the pasta was again WAY TOO SALTY! Lastly the clams and muscles pasta.. Many clams and muscles were unopened (either dead/not fresh or undercooked).. Then the dish is again WAY TOO BLOODY SALTY! It feels like they dump a whole chunk of salt into the noodles and didn't even bother to stir it or mix it well.. We were VERY disappointed!! Looking for a place that's good for kids and adults? This is a good choice. A nice, but not formal environment. The pasta is grownup, fresh made and mainly involving seafood. The pizza is good for kids - lots of options, including several kid friendly ones (ours loved the Viennese, which was a pizza with hot dog like sausages). We came for lunch and had no problems getting a table. We tried to eat there for dinner one night right when it opened but the pizza oven wasn't going to be ready to make pizzas for another hour and we couldn't wait. read more
