One of the best meals we have had in York. The fresh asparagus with crab sauce was wonderful, as was the fried cheese with an asiago cream sauce. Both a must try from the starter menu. Dinners were the short rib served over cheddar mashed. Replaced the spinach option with the potato and so glad we did. So good. The other entree was the roasted duck with XO sauce. Cooked perfectly and with a crispy skin. Served over fried rice served on a bed of the sauce and yogurt. Perfect compliment. Our entire bill for 2 cocktails, 2 starters, and 2 entrees came to $117 before tax and tip. You cannot find this quality food for that price anywhere else. Service was also excellent. There was constant attention without being overwhelming. Our server Courtney was on the mark. The service from others for water refills, to food delivery, and attention to detail was a very high level of care. All was perfectly choreographed for a full dinning room . So unusual to see such great front of house training for service. Dining room was lively and very cozy. Beautiful fireplace with seating for cocktails. The bar area also has great seating and a cozy fireplace. Overall a must try.

We were here on Monday 7.8.24 on a hot summer day but the air in Inn on the Blues was KICKING so much so I had to run and get sweatshirts (from the multitude of gift shops) for the little ones. Fisherman Basket with fried scallops, cod, shrimp and clams (YES with the bellies pfft I'm a New Englander after all) lightly breaded and so fresh. You'll need to ask for cocktail sauce if you would like to dip your shrimp in some. Little Bit had the philly cheese steak, I think it was good and my Son-in-law had the Atomic burger which he cleaned the plate so that is always a good sign, those onion rings were the bomb-diggity too! The grandkids devoured there food as well Kai especially liked the Pasta with plain butter and Khaleesi kept talking about the brioche bun for her burger A+A+A+. Those Crab Cakes with the Aioli is an ABSOLUTE must! Crust was crunchy and the meat inside was delicate and sweet just the right seasoning. LOVED this dish the most. View is awesome the music was upbeat and there was plenty of room for groups of 8-10 people. Full bar and we ordered shots to begin... because WHY NOT? it was our last full day of vacation! Located right on the main street and parking is across the street (if you are lucky to find it during the summer rush) I believe there is also parking around back towards the Zoo. Cheap it was not however, I wouldn't hesitate to visit again just for those crab cakes. Respectfully Reviewed.

I…read morecalled and made a reservation a couple of weeks ahead of our visit (we were there on a Monday night, and in the restaurant area it was pretty quiet - just us and one other table). First things first - parking is super easy, it's a free valet service (not obvious at first, as there is parking behind the restaurant, but you're greeted right away when you pull in). We walked through the bar area, over to the restaurant area (surprisingly the bar was quite full), and were able to choose a table by one of the two fireplaces. On the restaurant side, it feels very cozy, and homey, exactly where you want to spend a cold night, inside eating dinner. Our server was lovely, greeted us right away and provided menus. I started with a cosmo (they had flavored versions like strawberry, but I elected to go for the classic). For an appetizer, we started with the bacon wrapped scallops - the bacon was maple glazed, and wonderfully crispy, with the scallops cooked perfectly, and some micro-greens scattered on the plate - delicious. For entrees, my mom had the baked seafood stuffed haddock which came with a lobster sherry cream sauce, a massive pile of perfectly cooked green beans, and mashed potatoes (yum). I went with the duck special, which was absolutely delightful. It came with Brussels sprouts, and I subbed out the au gratin (I very strongly dislike sweet potatoes), for mashed potatoes. It was delicious. We were so full, we opted for dessert to go (chocolate cake), which was generously portioned, and decadently delicious. We really enjoyed the meal - this was a wonderful dinner to celebrate my mom's 80th birthday!

The following year, the first electric trains arrived in York via the Portsmouth, Kittery and York Railway. Many travelers on the railway began to frequent the Goldenrod, and its popularity soon boomed. In addition to their fine meals, they became well-known for their delicious 'Goldenrod Kisses': saltwater taffy that Talpey pulled by hand while standing in the front window. Today the Goldenrod is known for its delicious soups, salads, sandwiches, dinner plates, homemade candies, and fountain specialties prepared with their homemade ice cream. The current owner is Dave Peck. My extended family and I visited the Goldenrod this past summer while we were spending the week in York. We stopped for lunch one day after spending the morning at nearby Short Sands Beach. We absolutely loved the nostalgic feel that you get as soon as you walk in. At a place like this, you definitely need to order a specialty fountain drink. I enjoyed a delicious "Old Fashioned Chocolate Egg Cream" while my wife enjoyed a "Root Beer Float". For food, I ordered a "Turkey Salad Triple Decker" (w/ crisp bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle slices & chips), my wife had a "Grilled Cranberry Walnut Chicken Salad Sandwich" (w/ lettuce, tomato, pickel slices & chips), our older son had a "Sliced Turkey Sandwich" (w/ lettuce, tomato, pickel slices & chips), and our younger son had a "Grilled Cheese Sandwich" (w/ lettuce, tomato, pickel slices & chips). We all really enjoyed our meals; our other family members enjoyed their lunch too! Before leaving, we purchased some of the Goldenrod's delicious homemade chocolates as well as their Goldenrod Kisses. We really enjoyed watching them make the fresh taffy in the window with the same copper kettle, taffy pulling hook, and candy shears that have produced countless other candies. If you are planning a visit to York then we highly recommend a visit to the Goldenrod!
