Dined in this evening for a casual anniversary dinner. We were sat upstairs and had a great view of the water and Nubble Lighthouse. We were sat just before 2 large parties of 10+ and our waiter was attentive to get our orders in quick. Food came out extremely fast. We barely had time to finish our chowder and calamari when our main dishes came out. Prices are a bit marked up but expectingly so due to its tourist location and views. Despite the inflated prices we left with full bellies and happy hearts! The chowder was good. A little bland in my novice chowder opinion but creamy and warm with lots of clams and potatoes. The lobster roll had a great portion of lobster and the baked potato was hot with all the fixings. My husband enjoyed his lobster salad that also had a great portion of lobster on top. Overall we were pleased so I was surprised to see so many recent low star reviews. Stopped by on our way through town. The service was good and the view was nice, but the food was mediocre at best. The lobster bisque was the worse we ever had. Not sure why they have a lightly fried option. Lightly fried equals fully fried. Don't be fooled. The lightly fried chicken tenders were very dark. The lightly fried fish was standardly fried. Could have been 5 stars. Great food. Prices are a little high, but most things are. The issue is the dog policy. We love that we can bring our dog to their outdoor dining area, which we did on Labor Day. Our dog is well trained, laid down on the ground and that was it. What we didn't love is another dog owner brought their dog and proceeded to place their dog on a chair at their table and then let their dog put their paws up on the table and lick the table and eat from it. Not one employee said anything and plenty of employees saw it. If they let dogs up on chairs and lick off tables, we will not be eating there again. That is a health issue. read more

After doing the research and asking locals the recommended dinner house was Fox's. The lot was full, but we were able to get a window seat in less than 15 minutes. This place looks like it's a seaside restaurant. Just enough decor to make it feel real. We ordered our drinks to give everyone time to scouted menu. Great assortment of seafood dishes and combinations of items. Our table had the fried lobster tails which was the first time I've seen them on a menu and they were tender and tasty. Another person ordered the lobster Mac & cheese. Huge portion of creamy and lobster loaded goodness. We also had a lobster roll which was packed with tender and moist lobster. The restaurant is across from the Nubble Lighthouse (pretty famous spot). All in all great meal and drinks! read more

The views here are really amazing and I wish it had been a nicer day! We both got clam chowder and it was decent, but not the best. The crackers were a little stale but we didn't know until we poured them in! So test one just in case. I got the lobster scampi and was a large pint of lobster and tasted pretty good! Garlic bread was good too. My husband got the lobster roll and it was a little lacking and he did find a small piece of shell. The waitress never came by after she dropped the food so we didn't say anything. Service was very lacking and turned us off. read more

Was very disappointed after the many good comments I've heard over the years about Fox's. First, you cannot place a takeout order via phone. They require all takeout orders be placed at the window. Second, when placing takeout orders at the window, you must place orders from the lunch menu (baskets), as all "plates" are only available for dine-in, even during dinner hours! I need someone from Fox's to explain why larger portion plates are not available as takeout. Lastly, the portion in a basket meal (main dish and fries together) fit in a small cardboard dish like you'd get a hotdog at the golf course in. I will say the quality of the food was good and probably the only thing that kept this from being a 1-2 star rating. read more

Fox's Lobster House is a seasonal lobster shack, seafood restaurant and ice cream parlor that opened in York, Maine in 1966. It was founded by the Fox Family, which included Bob Sr., Tilly, and their son Bob Jr. The land located next to Nubble Lighthouse has been home to a restaurant since 1936. At that time, a small, rustic lobster pound with an inside dining room that seated 40 people was built by Frank and Annie Coupe. It was originally known as "Coupe's Lobster Pound." By 1950, the restaurant had been purchased by Edward and Dorothy Brown who renamed it "Brown's Lobster Pound". More owners would come and go before the Fox family purchased the restaurant. The Foxes made a number of additions and renovations to the property over the years. Bob Jr. later married a waitress at the restaurant named Phyllis. The couple eventually bought the restaurant from Bill Sr. and Tilly. After Bob Jr. and Phyllis divorced in 1986, Phyllis took ownership of the business by herself. Today, Fox's Lobster House is well-known for their delicious lobster rolls, seafood dishes, homemade Maine blueberry pie, and ice cream. The restaurant operates from late April through mid October. My family and I recently visited Fox's Lobster House this summer while we were spending the week in York. After taking some pictures of the beautiful Nubble Lighthouse, we headed over to the restaurant to grab some dinner. We sat at a table outside on the patio. My wife and I both had our own "Fox's Favorite Lobster Roll" (fresh lobster tail and claw meat gently tossed with mayonnaise, served in a toasted New England style sandwich roll) while our sons shared a "Basket of Baby Shrimp, Chicken Tenders & Chips". Everyone was very happy with their meal choices. We were also planning to order some ice cream for dessert, but a bird that landed on a nearby power line caused a blackout to the whole Nubble Lighthouse area. Fox's Lobster House 9-6-25 We had to stop by this Lobster House for the Lobster. The lady that greeted us at the front was very friendly and answered any questions we had about this place as it was our first time there. She stated you want to sit upstairs as the views were much better. The views from upstairs were spectacular with the ocean and Lighthouse in the background just amazing. They do have an outside patio for dining which is rather large with shading for all to enjoy that kind of atmosphere. Now let's get to the food. I ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder, and my wife ordered a cup of Lobster Bisque for appitizers. We both ordered the Fox's Favorite Lighthouse Our Dinner which had 1.5-pound Lobster, Corn on the Cob with Baked Potato. Our soup came out first, it was hot and very tasty, mine was packed with clams. This had to be the best New England Clam Chowder I ever had. In fact, it was so good I did not want to share it with my lovely wife. She stated her Lobster Bisque was fantastic also. The Corn on the Cob and Baked Potato was also good, but the star of the dinner was the Soup and Lobster. Everything was hot, tasty and with the great service provided by Stella we just loved this place, and my bet is you will also. You must stop by here not only for a great dinner but the spectacular views and a visit to the Lighthouse right next door. Decided to try Fox's Lobster House before viewing the Nubble Lighthouse. Very cute restaurant with outdoor dining, but we opted for a window seat inside. Amazing view of the oceanfront. Our meals were delicious. I chose the crab cakes with their homemade onion rings and my husband had fish and chips. The onion rings were some of the best I've ever had. We ordered onion rings and found that they fry them in the same fryer as their fish! They have an insane fish taste and after bringing it to their attention they failed to remake them! I like Fox's. I like to order my food, sit on a picnic bench, and look at the lighthouse. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday and there were plenty of tables and parking. My lobster roll was great. The clam basket was good, but kind of small for $33ish. The onion rings are fabulous. The kids Mac and cheese was super small, probably only enough to feed a toddler with a small appetite. We had to order another to make sure our 5 year old had enough to eat. Everyone else liked their clam chowder. The real star here is the view though. After our meal ($150 with 4 sodas) we headed down to the rocks by the ocean to enjoy the scenery and the sunset. Afterwards, we ordered a blueberry cheesecake, which was not really what I expected (more like a cheesecake flavored pudding layered with blueberries and topped with graham crackers crumbs) but still has great flavor. read more

It came with a bib , hot butter and a side of corn and fries. The dessert was to die for which is the Maine blueberry pie with a side of huge scoop of blueberry ice cream. This was our second visit this season. We arrived at a busy time but were seated on the second level quickly. We were given menus and that was the last time we talked to anyone for 30 minutes. We grab a waitress and ask where our waitress was and she said someone would be over immediately, 15 minutes later just another no show. Finally we went downstairs and said we were leaving since no one care about serving us. No sorry, no we would make it right and just no care at all. Always a "must go" when we are in the York/Ogunquit/Wells area. Spectacular views to go with your meal. One of the few restaurants where I was able to order a Portuguese wine. Steamed clams were sweet & delicious--no butter needed. Fried lobster tails--5 on my plate--were a great value. And, among the very best blueberry pies I have ever had. As a New Englander and seafood eater for 55+ years it's difficult to be impressed with a dinner out. I've been coming to York Beach since 1989 and never took the opportunity to eat here after thinking it was overpriced and touristy. Boy, I was completely wrong, amazing chowder, large portioned cup, classic baked haddock with a Ritz cracker crust like mom used to make on Friday nights along with some tasty pasta Alfredos and scampis. Service was prompt and on point from a young but seasoned staff. I'd recommend it to my friends visiting town taking in the Nubble looking for a special view and a special dinner. Visited this restaurant on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Drove from Connecticut to visit York Beach in Maine and decided to stop to eat at this restaurant. Location: Great location with water views, near the Nubble Lighthouse. Due to the location, prices are high, which is to be expected. We were able to be seated in a table with views to the ocean, which was a very nice touch. We saw tour boats as well as fishing boats. We also saw parents playing with their kids on large rocks, and some people were even fishing from the rocks. Food: I shared a plate with my partner. We shared a half and half golden plate dinner of scallops and Haddock. It came with French fries and Corn on the cob because we wanted to save room for the Blueberry Pie. With a price of $39.95, we thought we would get a good portion. But that was not the case. Small portions for the price and definitely not sharable. We found the scallops and haddock very tasty indeed, and the fries were fine. However, as mentioned, we found the portions too small to share. I eat out quite a bit for reviews and because I like good food. My partner and I share an entree and dessert and in some cases an appetizer and it works great for us. But not in this case. The blueberry pie with ice cream, well, all I can say I was a bit disappointed. The crust was not to my liking. I found it tasteless. The blueberries and whipped cream were fine. It seems that many people come to this restaurant just for the blueberry pie, as the hostess asked us if we were having dinner or just having blueberry pie. I was looking forward to eating fresh blueberry pie from Maine. But this restaurant did not meet my expectations in the dessert dept. during this visit. I did not try the lobster, but they ranged in price from $35.95 to $73.90, if you want a stuffed lobster. Service: Both the hostess and the server were nice, friendly and accommodating. Plenty of free parking, close to the Nubble Lighthouse. Seating in the main level with many tables with ocean views. Additional seating in front of the restaurant under the tent, and on the second floor. There is a bar as well. I was surprised that they only had one (1) women's bathroom with the number of tables that they have and the number of people that can be seated. Would I visit this place again? Maybe, as the food was tasty, although the portions were small and the price was high for what we had. We ended up paying almost $70 (including tip) for 1 shared entree (not lobster) and 1 piece of blueberry pie with ice cream. No drinks just water and lemon. A bit pricey for my taste. But if you like the view, and everything else that I mentioned that was good, then this restaurant may work for you. Buen provecho - bon Appetit! Great view of the ocean and Nubble Light! Had a fantastic bloody Marty for starters, then a cup of clam chowder and the Lobster Dinner with corn on the cob, fries, shrimp cocktail. Don't skip the dessert either had some of the best apple cobbler I have ever had. Soooo good. One of my favorite lobster houses to go to when visiting the East Coast!! Service was also very friendly. Located next to the Nubble Lighthouse, you'll get really beautiful views, even inside with large windows. This place can get busy and we were lucky to stop by before the rush. There's parking next to the restaurant or across the street on Nubble Road. Due to the location, the prices are on the high end, but that's to be expected. The Seafood Lover's Platter had a good amount of food. It came with one fried haddock, plenty of small shrimp, and a decent amount of whole belly clams and scallops. What better way to experience the Nubble Lighthouse and the park at Cape Neddick than by having a meal first at Fox's Lobster House, overlooking the lighthouse? This family-run restaurant serves solid seafood fare, including sandwiches, lunch baskets, burgers, and whole lobsters. Since I wanted something light, as we had a planned big dinner, my eye caught the two mini fried fish tacos: fresh haddock bites in flour tortillas with Baja slaw, cheddar cheese, and house salsa. When the tacos came, they were huge; I almost didn't finish them. (The term "mini" is not entirely accurate.) They were prepared fresh, filling, and flavorful. I enjoyed them together with a glass of house Rosé. We finished our lunch with their famous homemade Maine blueberry pie, which was so delicious.
