I've always wanted to try this place because I've seen the reviews and it seems to be a very authentic Thai and Lao's restaurant. Sure enough it was! When you go into the restaurant, a lot of Asian people are eating and ordering at the counter. I ordered the salted crab papaya salad (mild spicy), and their three entrée platter. We chose the catfish, chicken and bamboo curry along with their chicken larb. We also ordered the Lao sausage. Everything was delicious and nothing disappointed. What an awesome market and restaurant! I learned about this place recently and was excited to visit because normally I venture into Thai Town in LA to get a lot of Thai ingredients. But this little shop has a lot and is so much closer. They've got some premade desserts in the fridge along with lots of drinks. They also have a pretty extensive frozen section with prices clearly labeled (thank you!). They've got pandan leaves as well as other frozen goods like sausages and fish. Very well stocked in terms of seasonings and dry ingredients, and they have a lot of sauces as well! Dried noodles, different types of rice, including a few types of sticky rice, snacks...even cooking equipment. They also have a lot of canned goods and some fresh groceries like long beans and gailan, all at reasonable prices. They only accept cash, so come prepared! An efficient, affordable lunch option in Anaheim. I've stopped here for lunch twice and I would come back more if I worked nearby. I ordered a 3 item combo from the hot food bar and I'm usually in and out in less than 5 minutes. The price is really good considering how pricey thai food can get. I can get at least 1.5 meals out of this plate. I loved the beef red curry, the beef was so soft and tender. The labels on the hot food bar seemed a bit mixed up but you can ask what everything is (they may not be too happy to have to explain every dish to you though). The service is not the friendliest but that's not what i'm here for. I think the food tastes more authentic when the service leaves something to be desired. read more

This spot is a great little find. The market itself is on the smaller side, but it had exactly what I was looking for, which I really appreciated. The restaurant attached to it is where it really shines. The food was absolutely delicious--honestly, the best crying tiger I've ever had. The jerky and sausage were also so flavorful and definitely worth ordering again. My only small complaint is that some of the pre-made items were a bit on the cooler side than I would have liked. Thai - Laos Market is a mini-market that has a restaurant connected to it's store - literally separated by a sliding glass-door. Am a fan of their takeout restaurant next door. The market side has some COOL finds for Thai/Laotian essential cooking needs that one won't find at larger Asian supermarkets; mostly non-perishable items with here and there fresh herbs, snacks, herbal medicine, cooking utensils etc. Service is friendly and parking is available right in front. This is a cash only place but they do have an ATM for you can pull out cash. We were craving some Laos food and this place is so incredibly cheap. You can get three items for 10.99. The combinations are endless. There are so many vegetables and meat options. We got the three combo, it came with rice, curry, mint basil chicken and fried pork ribs. It was sooo good. The lady allowed us to eat first and then pay. I'd say my first initial reaction with her wasn't pleasant. I had asked if the beef jerky being displayed was sweet or spicy which is a valid question because I've had sweet and spicy beef jerky even made from thai/lao people. She was confused by the answer and then gave a little attitude. I just brushed it off and ordered our food. Oh I wanted to give this a higher rating !! OC doesn't have a thai/laos/khmer market - you gotta make the drive to long beach to get the goodies unforunately. I didn't feel like making the drive to long beach & was in need of limestone paste for my hat yai chicken. It's a specialty ingredient used in Thai cooking to aid in crispiness - don't think it's available in chinese, korean or vietnamese stores. I was in luck & had it ! While there I took a look at everything else. They also carry (somewhat) hard to find Pantai Budoo fermented fish sauce. They don't carry holy basil :( or coriander root. They had a fun Thai fruit punch Fanta so gave that a try. The store is cute but I feel has much more potential !! Wish they had more product. Cash only ! read more

Haven't been to the market and restaurant in about a decade. We definitely noted that the flavors weren't the same we were used to. It was clearly evident in the Thai Boat Noodle soup that the hubby ordered. The broth had a very pronounced anise flavor but didn't have the deep, pork flavor that is kuaitiao ruea. The hubby asked for liver but they also didn't have this as an option. Perhaps this was a tactic to appeal to the masses who didn't really prefer offal meat in their soup. I order Kao Piek Sien which is nothing but chicken soup with a homemade noodles made of tapioca starch. The broth was clear and I appreciated that the broth was not thick. A few dashes of black pepper and a scoop of chili garlic oil elevates this dish to the next level. I also ordered Kao Ka Paow with ground pork. The basil leaves really make the dish and with every bite, you just want to keep eating. I got it spicy mild and if you know Laos people, you have to notch down the spice level otherwise you'll be two cups deep drinking that tap water to quench your thirst. The restaurant is immediately attached to the Laos market next door where you can grab you Asian essentials. My friend recommended me this place and it met beyond my expectations. This place is truly a hidden gem. I got the 3 item combo meal with a side of papaya salad and all of my choices were 10/10. I recommend the combo item that comes with variety of options to choose from, all the combo meals comes with a side of rice under $10. Also, I definitely recommend ordering the papaya salad medium spice level. So refreshing and kick of spice, it was one of the best I had. Portions are HUGE and price is CHEAP. One thing to note is it's CASH ONLY here. It's saucey, rich, flavorful, and has everything a good pad thai needs. The papaya salad is to die for. It's extremely fresh and very spicy. That Thai spice is no joke so be prepared. The shrimp pineapple fried rice is the best fried rice I've ever had in my life and I mean it. I don't know what they put it in but it's like heavens gates opened up. I've tried many things from the menu including tom yum soup, drunken noodle/pad kee mao, yellow curry, and dishes from the lunch combo and they are all delicious. The taste to price ratio is unbeatable at Thai Lao! If I'm in Anaheim I have to stop by and get a 3 item combo for $9.50 and always get the mango sticky rice. They also have taro sticky rice and banana sticky rice. My favorites are the bitter melon soup, red curry, and Thai basil eggplant. But they have so many options to choose from. It's a really casual place with several small tables. The waitresses and chefs are all super nice. Thai Lao gets a 5 in my opinion. The only thing that you need to remember is to bring cash. I'm Hmong so every now and then I'm craving papaya salad! They sell it here but I did not buy it, it's a small grocery store connected with a restaurant. The food was so delicious! It was authentic and made me feel at home! The only thing is that when you order the Laos sausage you only get one piece for your plate, so I had to order an extra one. The soups/curry was delicious along with the pork! I bought a Laos mortar and pestle because I've been looking everywhere to buy it and I was finally able to find it here! I bought all the ingredients I needed to make papaya salad here as well! The lady at the register was super attentive and kind, she unraveled the newspaper on the mortar/pestle and had me check it just to make sure it was in good shape before I purchased it.
