I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel others should know. I waited 45 minutes for my food (I understand that it's a busy place), I waited about 20 minutes after my party had received their order to only to find out the staff had forgotten my order and even thrown away my ticket. No one checked up on me the entire time, and when I finally asked what was going on, there was zero empathy. Instead of apologizing or fixing the situation, I was told to go tell the cook myself what I had ordered -- after already waiting almost an hour. That's unacceptable. On top of that, they clearly need a better system for delivering food and drinks. I saw staff walking around with drinks, literally asking every table whose order it was because they didn't know where it belonged. It felt completely disorganized. Mistakes happen, but this has been the second time and what really ruined this experience was the lack of accountability and care from the staff. A simple apology and effort to make it right would have gone a long way. Definitely not a place I'd recommend if you're expecting basic service and respect for your time. read more

I might've found my new fave lunch spot in Hayward! I've passed by this place so many time and always been curious until a friend took me here for a quick lunch. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately by Adan (aka the 9). I told him I was waiting for a friend and needed a few mins. When my friend came - she was telling me what she normally gets and while chatting adan poured us a cup of their cafe de olla and it was love at first sip! I ended up ordering the El Tren sandwich which was very tasty and came w a side salad. I also had a cup of the cafe de olla. My friend got her usual - the chia pudding (which I had a taste of - thanks to the sample!) and ofcourse a cup of cafe de olla. They have a very cute outdoor seating in the back (which makes them dog friendly) w a huge table under the shade and also some tables under the sun. The service that Adan provided was exceptional - he kept checking on us and even learned our names. Came back for breakfast and was not disappointed. Got the lox bagel - peppered smoked salmon with tomatoes capers and cream cheese. 10/10. This portion was huge and came with a side of greens! My husband got a cafe de olla Hot and egg sandwich on wheat with bacon. Today we decided to eat at the back patio and it was real nice. It reminded me of coffee shops in Mexico City. Flowers and plants everywhere. Plenty of seating for single diners and groups. I also noticed they had cajeta but I didn't know what state it was from (this makes a huge difference). I had the tuna melt and a mocha. Tuna had a strong lemon component. Maybe juice and zest? It was definitely tasty and unique. Stronger lemon than I personally would have liked (by the second half of the sandwich it was overwhelming). It's a small place (maybe 10 seats) but friendly and good food/ drink. read more

Unassuming restaurant with welcoming atmosphere from the time you walk in the staff greet you warmly. The menu is extensive and the food is delicious. Okay, I was a little skeptical when I was passing the place outside because it is so tiny. Once inside you will see keepsakes from several Latinx cultures adorning the walls, and a subtle modern cafe hidden away. You will be greeted by the sweetest little old lady waiting to take your order. While this place is a little bit pricey, (especially for Northern Hayward) it is worth it. Treat yourself to a delicious sandwich and or coffee drink. I ordered an egg sandwich with sausage, and a mocha. I waited about 10 minutes and took everything to go. I was more than pleasantly surprised by both the hint of lime in the sandwich and the real cocoa in the mocha. This place is better than most posh downtown Oakland cafes and I would suggest it to anyone looking for a splurge treat. If it were just a bit cheaper I would go here every week. It's really that good. One note if you like your bread more heavily toasted say so when ordering. read more

This place is lightweight hard to find but it's so cute!!! It feels really homey, like everyone was related that worked here and the food we got was really tasty! I felt the love that went into preparing our dishes. Idk how to explain it, it's like a welcoming type of feel restaurant! The inside is small but they have outside seating in the back. Very friendly and easy going spot, noticed menu heavy on drip brews and sugar, I did the Cafe de Olla. It was cocoa heavy, strong clean bitter notes that washed around with the syrup and sugars in a homemade fashion, not the usual brew I'm used to but an interesting alternative take on drip. I stopped by for a quick coffee but I really regret not ordering food. This was seriously the very best coffee I've ever had. It was just a mocha but it was strong but not too strong and the large was 16oz. It was the perfect temp and taste. And the service was lovely. Two sweet ladies and a young man helping from the side. A Romo's Cafe has 5 stars and for good reason! I was looking for a woman owned coffee spot nearby to support for Women's History Month and I'm so glad I went with A Romo's Cafe. I'll admit, the outside isn't really doing the shop any favors. It really doesn't look like much if you're just looking at the storefront. Also, there's not a lot of parking. They have a small lot and there's street parking or you could probably get away with parking at the grocery store next door. However, once you get past that and venture inside, it's a cute shop! It's small, so the inside doesn't have a lot of seating (3 tables, 2 chairs each) but they do have a large outdoor patio where I assume most people would stay and hang out. I stopped by late morning on a Wednesday so it wasn't too busy. I ordered the 20 oz Cafe de Olla (Mexico roast coffee, Mexican chocolate, cinnamon and spices) for $4.25 and the Egg Sandwich with Sausage ($6 + $2 for meat). The coffee was delicious and honestly much larger than I thought - though I prob should've known what 20 oz was tbh lol. So much more bang for your buck than other chain or even local shops would give. It was a good balance of sweet from the chocolate and bitter from the coffee. The sandwich was good as well, though not anything amazing. For $8, it feels on par with breakfast sandwiches I'd get at other shops after price inflation haha. However, I'd prob just go for one of their lunch sandwiches next time to justify the price even if it's more expensive. The egg sandwich just felt like something I could have made at home for cheaper. Though props to them for using (I assume) fresh ingredients and eggs since I had to wait about 10 min for them to make it. This ain't a fast food breakfast sandwich, y'all. Definitely will be back to check their outdoor patio out once it gets warmer! read more

The decor transported me to South America, with the beautiful alebrijes delicately placed throughout the shoppe. The dishes served here, are packed with flavour. The scent of the "cafe de olla" brewing woke me up and were complimented by the sounds of friendly chatter and Spanish music playing in the background. The staff were very helpful & welcoming, every customer that walked in was greeted. I had a caramel latte which was yum & chia bowl with berries. The chia bowl was light & fresh, the chia pudding is made in house & the granola is so good & also made in house. I liked the granola so much that I asked if I could purchase some but the owner said it's not for sale, however she was soooo sweet/generous to gifted me a small container of granola & she didn't allow me to pay for it. Saw this place on yelp and went for the Chia bowl which was sooo good, I feel like there's coconut milk which made it creamy and there was so much strawberries on top which was so worth the price. My cousin had the iced chai and avocado toast both really great as well. We sat outside in the back since it was nice and it's so nice and feels like you're in someone's backyard with cute plants. When I pointed this out to the lady at the counter, she told me that "large means more milk" and that both medium and large have the same two shots of coffee.
