This is a great place to buy running shoes. The sales guy comes across as more of a coach than a salesman. He measured my feet (not just size, but wide here, narrow here, etc.) and posture and we talked about shoes, injuries, running styles and habits. He gave me a pair of shoes to try on, and had me run down the block and back while he watched and told me about my running style, then came back with another pair. After taking just four pairs for test-drives, I left with some comfy shoes. I'll be back again next time I need running shoes. read more

Stopped in on the Blackest of Friday's to get a pair of running shoes, and was blown away by the service and prices. THE RUN DOWN: Using a slow mo camera app, their salesman Atticus checked for running style to help pick a shoe best suited for my gf. The run fit is standard at running shoe stores, but he was super knowledgable, and wasn't just trying to push the latest fad or most expensive shoe. He really seemed concerned to find not just the best fit, but the best match for her. Everyone else in the store was super friendly and casual, and when it came time to check out, we wound up getting a pair of shoes and shorts for about 40% less than I would of expected. I have worn Brooks shoes for at least a decade! My Addiction Walkers take a beating and it was time to replace them. I had ordered direct from Brooks but had to return them because they changed their manufacturing and the same size, were now too small. I have been to ARM a few times in the past but never for myself, only as an observer. I decided to take my chance and with a lucky find of a legal parking space, one day took the plunge. Ben was very helpful, informative and patient as I tried on 4 different pair of shoes and with his suggestions and information decided again to stick with a Brooks shoe. I needed a new pair of running shoes and my usual Fleet Feet in the Marina was out of my size of my choice of Mizuno's. I yelped of course and a Runner's Mind pulled up do I paid a visit and saw that it was a neighborhood store. I appreciate the "mom and pop" feel of the store and the staff was quite welcoming. Mike was very helpful in choosing my next pair and gave me options on alternative brands to choose from as well. I was set in a no pressure situation and I was able to freely make up my mind on what I wanted. I went with the latest release of Mizuno's that even Fleet Feet didn't have. I would definitely come back here for my next pair of shoes and would surely make the referral to friends as well. The only thing is if you drive in, finding parking will be a challenge. read more

What a great shop, with equally great staff members and selection. My boyfriend and I stopped in the night before Thanksgiving while visiting San Francisco and Carlos helped us out big time. He took the time to consider my boyfriend's physical problems (wonky arch and weak ligaments) and found 3 different kinds of shoes for him to try on, he ended up liking 2 pairs and decided on a pair of Mizunos. Fantastic customer service, beautifully laid out shop, and open till nice and late (so I can go here after work). I've had problems with shin splints and general leg pain from running, and the first thing Mike did when I came to the store was to video me running so he could see what my gait was like playing the video back in slow-motion, and sure enough as he predicted I was over pronating. He brought out 3 pairs of shoes he thought would help me with this, and all 3 felt great and were perfect fits that I had trouble choosing which pair to take! I discovered this store last fall when I was taking my son to get a haircut across the street so I was compelled to wander in to check it out. I was immediately helped by Mike who asked me a few questions about my running needs and concerns after which he had me try on several pairs and run up and down the sidewalk. Just by analyzing my gait, he fit me in by far the best running shoes I have ever run in, and I've been running for decades! I wore that pair until they started to fall apart. Against my better judgement, I purchased my next pair of running shoes after a complex gait analysis (eg treadmill video, foot print) at Road Runner Sports thinking I could save a few bucks. During my first run in the new pair, I experienced sharp, stabbing foot pain while running on the Golden Gate Bridge. Never again! I have also had numerous injuries from both running and soccer and Mike and Monte have recommended amazing supportive braces/products that have helped me recover from my injuries in record time. This is a great shop. I was visiting SF for work, and decided to take part in a organised run at the last minute and needed some appropriate trainers to do it. The staff were really helpful and patient, and talked me through a number of great options before helping me pick a perfect pair of new shoes. They also helped me try and find out more about the event I was planning to do.. which was amazing: it was totally opaque to someone not from SF and they gave me enough info for me to have the confidence to take part. This is THE BEST RUNNING STORE EVER!!! I have been coming to A Runner's Mind since it originally opened in Burlingame, CA in 2010. They have some of the most knowledgable sales associates and running experts I have ever encountered in a running store. They have fitted me with the best racing and training shoes since I was in high school. My favorite part about this shop is the group runs. Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday they have group runs that run out of both SF and Burlingame shops. A Runner's Mind totally exceeded my expectations. I'm a recreational runner who has recently started running half marathons. For the sake of saving a few bucks, I had always bought on-sale running shoes at department stores--what a mistake! After running a few races, it was clear my previous shoes were going to do more harm than good. My boyfriend and I first heard about A Runner's Mind through friends and decided to go for a fitting. Monte helped us out and it's clear he knows what he's doing. He asked us about how we use our shoes, what problems we currently had and slo-mo filmed us running outside to really understand our form. He walked us through 4 pairs of shoes each, highlighting the differences in brand & technology and had us run with each to feel the comparison. We never felt like he was trying to push any specific model down our throats and he really let us choose the one that felt the best to us. At the end of our purchase, he even threw us a free pair of socks. If you're going for a fitting, budget ~30-45 minutes for a thorough one. He brought out a few options for me to try and and explained the material composition, features and benefits of each shoe and encouraged me to run down the street in them. He asked for specific feedback after each pair. He spoke in simple terms the average person would easily digest and once he realized I was *moderately* knowledgeable, he used more advanced terminology. Once I decided on the perfect shoe, he talked me through insoles and at no point ever made me feel any pressure to purchase. After I paid, he encouraged me to return them if they weren't "perfect." This is a great store! The owners are genuine and helpful. My husband and I stopped by bc they had a Bob stroller in the window and we wanted to see how it felt. They took it out of the window and let us (well my husband) run up and down the street with it. They even volunteered to put their little girl in it so we could see what it would feel like when our little one was in it. A few days late, but I did want to post about my amazing experience at ARM. This probably sounds like a broken record, but the staff, the selection and most importantly the process to find new running shoes was a joy. I had stopped running a few years ago, but recently took it up again. My 2016 Nikes were not cutting it anymore, and I read up on ARM on Yelp and decided to head there. It's right next door to my dry cleaner so I've walked past it hundreds of times. Last week I went in and Brooke couldn't have been nicer. She took time to measure my feet and check my arches and videotaped my running gait so she could pull lots of different options for me to try. She was so patient and knowledgable and after trying on 6-7 options, I found my perfect shoe. But wait, there's more. Then, she recommended inserts for better arch support and cushioning for my plantar fasciitis. I'm so glad she went through the whole search with me. And even better is that I have new shoes that if I have any problems with in the next 30 days can be brought back for exchange/store credit. Does it get any better than that? Came here to get gear for my high school son's track and field season. The staff is SOOOO friendly and knowledgeable that I almost want to start running. They were very attentive and excited to talk to a new runner about all aspects of running. They filmed my son run to analyze his gait. I came here for a trail running session and loved it! There was an Olympic trail runner there giving tips and plenty of goodies and snacks afterwards (beer, hint water, chips, mamma chia, etc.). Marathon Matt took us out to a trail behind the Presidio that ended at Immigration Point and it was beautiful. I bought a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS15 since my new Asics Kayano 21 were giving me blisters (I should have bought another of the 20 when they had my size available). I'd recommend the Brooks for wider, flat feet. They also give one free pair of ARM running socks, which are breathable and lightweight. I would definitely recommend this shop to everyone. read more

I've been in retail, I know when it gets busy it's hard to juggle, I have more patience than most - yet I didn't even need it. I came in for a gait analysis since I've been experiencing some pain during my runs. We went outside where he used his iPad to record my gait and then made recommendations to help make sure I have a shoe that supports my foot and keep me injury free. I got 3 shoe recommendations, was encouraged to try them all on in various combinations and pairs for comparison, run outside, and was not pressured in any way.
