How do you mop floors? Elbows bent, energetically 'swabbing the deck'? If you are, you're just spreading dirt. Donovan taught me that today. ** I needed a mop and was going to go to a building supply store or go online. I replaced several rooms of laminated floor with wood-look ceramic tile. I'd used disposable wipes on the laminate floor so I didn't have a mop for tiles or tile floor cleaner. And I didn't really know what to use. I'd had cleaning people here before so they used whatever they used. ** Instead I went to Donovan and asked him. He showed me what he uses at home and how to properly clean the floor (Go in one direction!) Did you know there are imprinted arrows on the mop base to prompt the user to mop in the 'right' direction? I'd have missed learning about that if I went to a warehouse store or online shop. ** I was going to use a vinegar/water solution but figured I'd ask Donovan what he recommended. He had a jug of lemon scented concentrated cleaner that professional cleaners buy. My $16 jug should yield 10 years of cleaning solution. I already used the solution - it's highly concentrated (the ratio is 2 ounces to a gallon of water) and smells fresh. More so, it makes the floor and grout look great. Gone are the days of asking Grandma how she cleaned the house - good thing cuz we have different surfaces and products now. So I'm glad I went to A1 and got advice from an expert. And because it's Donovan, he carried my purchase and placed the items in my car trunk - while he's not Grandma, he treats me with love. This is one outstanding company. I purchased a central vacuum unit from this company in 2016 to replace the unit that came with the house I had purchased and was no longer working. The unit worked fine until a week ago and so I called to have them send someone out to service it. They suggested that before sending a service person out, I should trouble shoot it first, and he suggested several things to do to see if a service call was really needed. I tried what he suggested but nothing seemed to work. When I called back to have someone come out, he asked me if I had any work done which required anyone to go into my attic. I told him I did. He again suggested that before he sends someone out, I should go into the attic to see if anyone had tampered with the piping for the Central Vacuum system. So, reluctantly, I went to the attic to look around and sure enough, the clean out cap for the central vacuum system was removed. I put the cap back on and the system immediately started working. I was amazed. Here's a company that was thinking of me and my wallet before their wallet. I cannot speak highly enough for the care and time they took to trouble shoot problem over the phone rather than doing what every other company would have done - namely, send out a service technician to look at the system and do what they did for free over the phone - saving me I am sure a couple of hundred dollars for a service call. I'm 80 years old, in a wheelchair. Sewing is one of my few pleasures, so when the bottom thread started tangling, a friend took it to A-1 for repair. Donovan deburred the bobbin casing, said it was fixed, and charged me $100. When I used it, the bottom thread still tangled. I called and told him. He was rude, harsh, combative and loudly said HE REPAIRED IT! I must have threaded it wrong. I should bring it in, leave it, AND DON'T TOUCH THE THREAD OR BOBBIN. He wanted to see where I made the mistake BECAUSE HE FIXED IT! The machine is ten years old; I know how to thread it. I was so hurt to be talked to like that. I'm not willing to be treated so badly by him again. I'll have it taken to someone else, and let him keep the $100 he didn't earn. read more

I had a terrible experience at A1 Vacuums & sewing. Upon my arrival, Donovan, the store owner asked what brought me to his store. I explained I needed a wellness check, he rudely interrupted me and said " we don't do that, it's your responsibility" when clearly dyson had put that on the summary. Which at that time he also said he was having technical difficulties with his computer so he couldn't see what the summary had said. Then I tried to explain that I needed to remove a screw that had been stripped from the brush bar. I wanted to show him exactly where but he didn't want me to and explained that he would give me a call on Monday. When leaving, I had a bad feeling just by his attitude, leaving my Dyson at his store. Monday he gives me a call and he was extremely rude saying he was not going to remove the screw and that Dyson doesn't allow him to do so.... WHEN I HAD SPOKEN TO DYSON ABOUT MY SITUATION.... he was cutting me off when I was speaking... I'm not one to get easily upset but he was just a rude person from the minute I met him. When I immediately left his store I contacted Dyson and they were extremely helpful and ended up replacing the parts I needed. And explained that what was written in the summary was wrong... they wrote I needed maintenance on the filter... but if Donovan would have let me show him the issue to begin with and didn't have a nasty attitude... things would have turned out differently. I went to A1 Vacuum about 15 years ago when my other vacuum gave out. After an informative conversation with Donovan, I purchased a Sebo vacuum cleaner. He was very thorough with explaining all the features of the vacuum and how to use all the features. I have had this vacuum for 15 years and it works perfectly, unlike most of what is found in a big box store. This vacuum cleaner was not the cheapest, but worth paying a bit more, as it's well made and long lasting. ( unlike the throw away vacuums I owned which lasted 3-5 years) I've also had my sewing machine maintained and repaired here as well and happy with the service. read more

I went there on 1/2/21 due to my Bissell warranty. Found out they were closed. It was a Saturday! Not happy. Went back today Saturday 1/9/21 and will never go there again! Owner was extremely rude and condescending to me! Was screaming about his rent being so high! Made me feel so small the way he was talking to me when I asked him questions. I had started to cry also. Said I needed new belts for my vacuum. Asked him if he could show me how to install them and he said-Read Your Manual! Whole ordeal was so upsetting. I stopped by this place for a warranty repair to my Electrolux Ergorapido cordless vacuum. He was working with a commercial customer on a repair. During the repair, he addressed my problem to which I was rudely told: "I don't do warranty work on those anymore. Electrolux is changing hands. It's jammed. Open that clip. Take it home and work on it. Knock yourself out." Then he turned back to the commercial customer. HOW RUDE. Guess he likes the money from the commercial people better. This guy was down the street. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE! I took my Bissell vacuum cleaner in for a new filter and to remove dog hair. I bought my vacuum cleaner 5 months prior- so it was in good shape, no scratches, and had a lot of life left. Donovan (owner) tried to sell me a refurnished vacuum, which I declined since mine was in great condition. He charged me $54 up front to remove the hair and change the filer, which he insisted I pay beforehand since "some customers do not return to pick up their items." I went to pick up my vacuum and I was in shock! Donovan handed me a vacuum cleaner that was NOT mine! We argued for several minutes- and I left the store very upset since he did not return my property. I went home to find a copy of the store receipt where I bought the vacuum and low and behold, the product ID does not match the vacuum cleaner he was trying to give to me. This man is a thief, do not trust his business. He will just take your good vacuum and sell it as refurbished for more money. I will never return nor recommend this place. read more

Purchased an IQAir HealthPro Plus home purifier today from Donovan. His customer service was terrific and he was one of three dealers in the area. When we called him, he ordered the product from California and we had it within the week. This air purifier is a Swiss product and is highly praised by hospitals and Consumer Digest. They only have three dealers in Broward County, so it says a lot that Donovan has one of the three dealerships. Nice guy and he gets 5 stars from us. read more

This small business offers excellent customer service. Although they sell expensive home and commercial brands, they were very eager to satisfy my more meager needs. I required special order vacuum cleaner bags for a cheap Bissell canister vacuum bought at Walmart. They ordered the bags over the phone without even requiring a deposit or prepay. I won't be coming here again. I had been doing business here for quite some time and even bought a Dyson vacuum here. I brought it in yesterday as it was overheating. Donovan told me he wanted $89 to "clean" it. Told him I couldn't afford it so he promptly wrapped the cord up and gave it back to me. At home it took me 5 minutes to clear a clog from the wand. I'm trying to think back of how much money I've spent here over the years. Definitely learned my lesson. YouTube has some great info how to fix/clean vacuums yourself. read more

I called to find out if the store had a pet roller for my bissell vacum. Donovan told me he had one so I asked him if it would be difficult for me to put in on my own. He answered saying depending if I knew what I was doing and he charges $12 to put in this $6.99 roller. So then I asked him if he can show me what to do when I come in to purchase the roller. His answer was NO and that's how he stays in business. I then called bissell and found out that all you need to do is slide a button down and that releases it to put in the new roller. So, when I went to purchase the roller after I paid for it and had it in my hand...I confronted Donovan. I told him SHAME ON YOU....you refused to tell me how to put in the new roller and you want to charge me $12 for a simple thing as taking your finger and sliding down a button!!! Then I stormed out of there. When I got home I called the corporate office of bissell and reported him. The woman I spoke to couldn't believe how he treated me and was going to send the complaint to the department that handles service centers.. SCAM ARTIST'S, will try and charge you money that is not due. Contacted Dyson regarding my vacuum not having any suction, was still under warranty so they advised for me to drop off at one of their certified repair shops. The owner didn't even look at vacuum and after attempting to explain the issue kept insisting that it was clogged and needed maintenance. He then attempted to charge 79.95, which I was specifically told by Dyson there would be no charge. He then lowered it to 49.95. After several attempts to explain the issue the owner kept interrupting me and cutting me off, he then stated "Do you do this for a living?" I then took my vacuum and left the store. I advised I would be contacting Dyson to file complaint, he didn't want me to do that, however I still did. Dyson apologized for the inconvenience and then advised for me to take my vacuum to a UPS location to have it shipped directly to them. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE.
