DON'T BE FOOLED BY AAA BATTERY "WARRANTY" I have been AAA Member for years, using their roadside services primarily upon occasional dead battery situation. I last had their Pete's Mobile of GA install a battery in Mar 2022 that has a full 36 month warranty, and now at month 31 is dead. They came and tested it and said it tests "good" so they didn't honor the warranty. After considerable time and trouble I had a repair shop check out the vehicle, it was in fact a dead cell in the battery, and a new battery was installed without further difficulty. And my mortgage company charged me twice the normal rate for the time I wasn't covered. AAA may be a decent place to take your car, but don't buy insurance from them. I swear to God I hate this place. I have an old car and I get free toes with my triple A membership. So every time something goes wrong this is where I go and they get it wrong every single time. I took it to a real mechanic after taking it there most recently, and learned that it's a problem with my fuel sensor. I had taken it in, had to pay $150 for a diagnostic, and then listen to them tell me how nothing was wrong. They told me they ran $20 worth of gas through the engine and it never died once. They literally looked at me with a straight face and told me I had run out of gas. The audacity. Essentially if you go here you are dealing with the equivalent of The geek squad. These people don't know anything about engines. All they know is how to run a software that tells them if there is a problem or is not a problem. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE IF YOU WANT AN HONEST MECHANIC As a starting point, a bit of background. My kids and I are members of AAA in the state of Missouri. My daughter attends University and lives in Atlanta during the school year. One night her car lights would come on but the engine would not turn over. The next day, she contacted AAA and asked for a call to the parking lot where the car was located. When the tow truck operator appeared, she explained the situation. Without even testing the battery, towed her to a AAA service station, AAA Toco Hills Car Care Plus. While waiting for a call regarding the status of the vehicle, I called my Kia dealership (in St. Louis) , that has serviced our cars in the past. I explained that the engine would not turn over, and was told that there was still a warranty on the motor. Hopeful that the issue was only the battery or something minor, we decided to wait for the diagnostic report on the car. I spoke with Alteis(sic) on the 18th, when he called me and informed me that there was a hole in the oil pan, no oil in the engine, and that the vehicle needed a new engine. Please note that the car had never leaked oil and the check engine light had never came on. No mention of the battery. He offered to put a rebuilt engine in for $6,300, saying that it would take at least two weeks to get parts (during which time, I might add, my daughter would be without a vehicle). He failed to mention the fact that the engine was still under manufacturer warranty, responding, instead, when I said I wanted to have it taken to a Kia dealership because I knew it was still under warranty, "you could do that" and proceeded to tell me how he had seen several customers who had the same issue take their cars to the dealer (WHY didn't he bring that to my attention, instead of trying to get me to agree to PAY $6,300 for a repair I could possibly get for free is suspect). I then told him that I wanted to have the car towed to a Kia dealership and would be making arrangements to get that done. It took several hours of calls to find a dealer who was able to actually see the vehicle in a reasonable time. Much of the delay would be based on the fact that we believed the engine was locked and would need repair, and there would be multiple cars with engine issues before ours (a known issue with this make and model). One Kia dealer, much closer to the TOCO location, had a TWO MONTH wait to diagnose engine issues. Of course, that would never do as my daughter has night classes and needed a vehicle - and we did not have the means to provide her with a rental for two months. In the end, the closest dealership with availability to see the car with reasonable turnaround was over an hour away and I called and made arrangements to have the 2018 Kia towed the next day (11/18/22). The cost of the tow was $269.00. Understandably, the next week we heard nothing from the dealership, as we had been told it was unlikely they would have an answer for us before Thanksgiving. When I finally did talk to dealership, I believe it was Thursday, December 1st, she told me that the first problem was the battery was bad and needed to be replaced (recall that neither the tow truck driver nor TOCO mentioned having tested the battery) and secondly that there was a hole in the oil pan and it needed to be replaced. At this point, there was no mention of any issues with the engine, or it being seized and needing to be replaced. Wanting to avoid the expense of a new battery if the engine needed to be replaced (and not being sure if it was an expense we were going to be able to swing), I asked that they test the engine to be sure it was in good operating condition before moving forward. The tech was able to jump the battery and safely get the engine running; assuring me that there was no damage to the engine - that issue was the battery and hole in the oil pan which was suspect in its symmetry (HMMM). The repairs in this case would be a total of $950.00. It took a couple of days before the parts arrived, and the repairs were completed on December 5th. My daughter picked the car up on the 7th of December and it had absolutely no issues driving it from the dealer's location back to Atlanta. In fact, she drove the car back from Atlanta to St. Louis on Wednesday December 14th without any issues. VERY INTERESTING for a car that needed a completely new engine (OK, he did say he'd put in a rebuilt one for the low price of $6,300). It seems highly suspect that we go from a needed $6,300 at one shop (AAA Toco) to a final bill of $950 at an actual dealership (which, if they had agreed on the necessary repairs, should have been higher). Seems pretty apparent which shop was being honest and not trying to take advantage of my daughter/myself. read more

I want to start off saying that George and Tammy were incredibly kind and professional. I never leave negative reviews, but this experience really was disappointing. My clutch started sticking on my 20 year old car. It was Saturday and my usual shop was closed so AAA towed out to this location. I called ahead and spoke to George. He was very kind and professional, and said he would get a service report opened and started for me. I arrived before the tow truck and waited in line to check in. There were two customers ahead of me being helped by Tammy, and another gentleman whose name I didn't get. I was happy to wait (they had good music playing in the lobby). The the young man said goodbye to his client and was finishing up paperwork so I waiting until he called me up to approach him. He finally looked up and briskly asked, "what do you need?" I approached the counter and explained that I had called ahead, that my vehicle was being towed to this location and asked if I needed to stick around when it arrived. He then looks to Tammy next to him who is with another customer at this time, points at me, and says, "do you want this? I don't want it." Tammy shoots him a look and continues with her customer. The young man rolled his eyes, took off his mask and proceeded to eat a KitKat, and asked me for my name, phone number, and what was wrong with my car. I gave my name and number, and explained that my clutch was sticking. He interrupts me and says, "okay! Do you have any other information?!" I didn't know what he meant by this so I asked what information he needed. He raised his voice and said, "whatever information you want to give me!" At this point I'm getting frustrated and I told him I would be happy to give him any information he needed, but I wasn't sure what he was asking for. He interrupts me again, and shouts "do you have an email or something? Whatever information you think we're gunna need!" I gave him my email address, and he says that there will be a $120 diagnostic fee and they'll just call me when they're done. He then spun his chair around away from me with a big sigh and eats the rest of his KitKat. I called two days later to check on the status, and speak to Tammy. She was very kind and professional, and apologized for having to deliver bad news. I'm told I need a brand new transmission, clutch, and Master cylinder. I had put a brand new transmission, and clutch in in Jan 2020, so I end up declining the work, paid the diagnostic fee and had the car towed home. My usual mechanic came that evening to look at it, and agreed the diagnostic was wildly exaggerated. My transmission is in perfect order, my clutch and master cylinder are fine. The issue is a very large and obvious hole in the hydraulic line that feeds fluid to my clutch. It's a $50 part, $15 for fluid, $75 for labor. My car is running just fine now. I appreciate George and Tammy for their kindness and professionalism, but the other young man was absurdly rude, and their diagnostic was way off base and misleading. I can't recommend this shop, and definitely don't feel like I can trust them to give an honest and accurate diagnostic. read more

I'm happy to live near a AAA Car Center, as it's a great perk for members to have access to affordable and friendly car services. However, I took my car in for an oil change routine maintenance and was disappointed in how this office works administratively. I had difficulty calling to schedule an appointment - I left multiple voicemails, had to call 4+ times before reaching a person. When I came in for my 9am appointment, I was told it would take 1.5 hours because another car had just gone in. I'm surprised that the wait time for an oil change is so long, that only one mechanic does oil changes, and that other cars were accepted during a scheduled appointment time. I did not receive any call or notification when it was done being serviced. While taking a call outside, I noticed my car was in a different spot, so asked if it was done. The technician told me he was "just about to call me," even though my car had been sitting for 20+ minutes while I was on the phone. It took about 15 minutes to check out because a manager was required to log into the system. There also seemed to be minimal COVID-19 procedures in place (no sanitizing of car keys or pens, passing payment methods back and forth, people sitting close together in the waiting room, etc.) Overall, it was still a good value, the technicians were all friendly, and it's near a shopping mall to help pass the time. However, if you visit, make sure to a lot ample time for your service and be aware of some administrative inefficiencies. Also, the wait on weekends without an appointment can be 3+ hours (!). read more

Quick review: In short, roadside assistance is great, the staff at this place were mostly friendly, but do not expect accurate information or work to be complete in a timely manner (or even an untimely manner). This ordeal has me considering whether my plus membership offers actual value, or marketing peace of mind, especially with cheaper alternatives. Additional info: It should be posted somewhere, but apparently if you call the number on your member ID card, it is possible you will be provided misinformation-- or as my service rep said, "infeasible corporate policy". My quick and easy drop off has turned into a major ordeal (had another shop ready to Fix today, canceled in order to make the most of my membership. Now I will be forced to rent a car for the weekend at a minimum.) Roadside assistance did a great job communicating, and the driver was a friendly guy, but if you need work done you should take it elsewhere. Fortunately corporate is willing to provide me with one additional tow to somewhere it can be fixed. I can't comment on the pricing or capabilities as my car will not be worked on. read more

CAREFUL -- they sold my car to a used lot short story: I left my car there for too long trying to figure out where to have it towed and sold, so even though they knew how to contact me, they repaired my car without my permission, declared it abandoned, and had it towed to a used lot without telling me. to reclaim it, I'd owe $1323 plus a $600 repair that they quoted to me for $1200, which is why I needed time to figure out what to do. *negligent and terrible customer service* My car had a freak accident with it's car battery. This was clearly not their fault. Being a AAA member I made the unfortunate decision to take my car to AAA Toco Hills auto shop to see what happened and what next steps to take. It took them 5 days for them to replace my battery, give over the keys, and let me drive off. Not a single word about how there was SERIOUS damage to my entire car and ultimately should not have even been driven home. After having serious braking issues with my car (extremely dangerous for myself and others) I took my car into our trusted Express Oil Change where they could not believe AAA Toco Hills Auto shop would let me drive off. It is extremely scary to put your trust in a auto shop and company only to be told "you should have known". My partner went in to get the receipt only to met with extreme unprofessionalism and right out rudeness. The lowest form of customer service and understanding was demonstrated by George at the front desk. What happened to my car to get into their shop is not their fault. Not informing me car was UNSAFE TO DRIVE, to check me out, and let me drive home is 100% inexcusable. read more

There is a reason this place only have 2.5 stars, which frankly is generous. My car was towed here after the engine died while driving. I had to call every time to get an update. They said they would call within an hour - no call and I had to call the next day. They response I got on the diagnosis of my car had no detail at all on the cause, except that I had to pay over $5K for a new engine. Clearly not close to the price if you look anywhere online. The worst part about this experience is that when I went to get my things out of my car later into my rental before it would be towed elsewhere, I found my car sitting there in the parking lot unlocked!!! Overnight or possibly even for days, with my personal belongings there for anyone to take. I was naturally furious that my personal things had not been handled with any care at all. I said something to the manager who just looked at me blankly and literally walked away. Guess the typical mid-aged car shop manager doesn't like dealing with females? Oh and by the way, when I was emptying my car, I saw a AAA associate checking someone else's car while smoking a cigarette. Received a quote for water pump thermostat housing and thermostat replacement for over $1100 on a domestic suv with easy access to pump. Google any-major city and any honest competent shop can do this for $400-700, and well within 2 hours depending on area. For $125 parts retail ( who knows what the wholesale discount is) they wanted to charge about $1000 .....for what amounts to a 2 hour job with $100 parts cost. No one should work for free, and the salesman and mechanic must eat too....I get it; however, the pricing seems way out of line. ______________________________ UPDATE: changed from 1 star to 3 stars. Received a call from management with a reduction in an effort to compromise. Not completely happy with pricing still; but, Iaccepted the resolution as it showed they did care about not losing a sale. I'm really sorry, Tires Plus on Dekalb Industrial Way, where I've been getting my car serviced for the past three years. You had your cons, but the pros always outweighed them and the dudes always treated me and my 1999 Concorde right. But now I have a fancypants hand-me-down vehicle rather than a relatively-falling-apart hand-me-down, and I'm trying to love on it like my little brother did before he gave it to me. I received a coupon in the mail for the new AAA Car Care Plus in the Toco Hills shopping plaza, and they had me convinced of its superiority within two minutes of me walking in. The location is great: the plaza is at the intersection of Lavista Rd and North Druid Hills Rd, and the car center is located directly across from the Kroger, just south of the Outback. As might be expected from a brand-new location, the inside of the waiting area as well as the actual service center is spotless. The amenities are ample (two kinds of coffee! tea bags! hot chocolate WITH MINI-MARSHMELLOWS! splenda and regular sugar! two kinds of liquid coffee creamer! bottled water!) and I love that they have free wi-fi and three desktop computers in their waiting area. The children's play area is adorable, too. I ended up going over to Dunkin' for breakfast, but I wouldn't have minded waiting there at all. One can also see one's car being worked on while one waits through the glass windows: a feature I appreciate. The desk service was phenomenal: the dudes (3!) were friendly and each had their own computer, so when I returned to pick up my car at 9:30 am (exactly 45 minutes after I handed over the keys, which is how long they told me to expect my $19.99 oil change and tire rotation to take) they were able to effectively handle the increased traffic in the store. They were also really friendly to me, to each other, and to the mechanics who were returning keys or walking through the back area. Getting my oil changed here was a completely pain-free experience. I've never been so happy about Blockbuster's demise as when I realized its old site is now Atlanta's first AAA Car Care Plus. That's the American Automobile Association, of course; they do operate garages like this elsewhere in the country, but the South is finally getting one location (with more planned). They were happy to honor a coupon for a $19.99 oil change even though I didn't actually have that coupon, and they gave me a very competitive quote on four tires with installation (under $400). And they've got Windows thin clients (which means less risk of password-stealing viruses, though USB keyloggers would still succeed) for web surfing on IE while you wait, as well as a children's playroom with toy vehicles and a carpet with roads on it. AAA Car Care Plus also has a vending machine selling snacks *and* drinks (85 cents to $1.25, depending on your choice), but the coffee's free and the single-seat restrooms, although inefficiently gendered, are well-designed for wheelchair users. It's conveniently located, too; you're within walking distance of the Kosher Kroger and Kosher Publix and about a dozen restaurants in the Toco Hills Promenade plaza, and directly on MARTA route 30, served by route 8, and very close to route 19. A recent experience with an Approved Auto Repair service has damaged our trust is AAA. When I put my car into reverse it shifted hard and then the transmission light came on. This was the first time I had any signal of anything wrong with my car, but I was not going to take any chances. I pulled the car back in and called my husband and AAA. We wanted to have the car towed to our mechanic, which was 30 miles away, but the AAA representative convinced me to tow it to an Approved Auto repair shop at (AAA Toco Hills in ATL). My husband was not convinced but I sold him on the idea by saying AAA is a trustworthy brand and we can trust them. I told him he needed to learn to trust people more. The tow truck driver told us we did not need to follow him to the shop, that they would call us after they looked at the car. My husband insisted that we go to the shop and check it out. I am glad that he did. We walked in and talked to a representative and told him what happened. His immediate response was, "sounds like you will need a new transmission." This was without him looking at the car. As my husband put it, that is like telling a doctor your symptoms and the doctor saying "sounds like you have cancer" without doing any tests or an examination. We left the car there for them to look at and the next day I received a call saying we needed a new engine computer (exact words) and a new transmission. I asked a couple of questions about what would cause the transmission to go out and they could not answer those questions. I called my husband and told him to call our mechanic to go pick up the car and bring it to his shop. My husband called the AAA shop and also asked questions about why the light would not have come on prior and why we would not have noticed other issues before the transmission went totally bad, and again, no answers. WE PAID the $99 diagnostic fee so that the car could be released to our mechanic. Our mechanic showed up the next day to pick up the car and was told the car was not there, that it had been towed away. He called my husband who described the car, and the mechanic was able to spot the car in the lot. That in itself shows the incompetence of this shop. Our mechanic got the car to his shop and looked at it. Our car has a transmission control module that went bad (not an engine computer). When that control module goes bad the transmission goes into limp mode so that you can get the car to the mechanic without damaging it too much, which is why the transmission is not performing properly. A mechanic would have to replace the control module before ever diagnosing if the transmission was bad. This shop was ready to charge us $5,300 for a new transmission that was not needed. I don't know if that is because of incompetence or malintent, but I do know I cannot put trust in a AAA referral as readily as I wanted to ever again. read more

I have been a member of AAA for years! I have always loved their quick service and when I found out they had an actual service center, I was so excited! My tire seemed to have a nail or some sort of sharp object in it. Took it over to the car center about 20min before they closed, but unfortunately they didn't have anyone to work on it that close to closing and we decided to bring it back this morning. We took the car this morning and got it serviced. The tire had to be replaced, the nail was way too close to the edge of the tire. Well the guy servicing, removed the nail which caused the tire to go completely flat after saying he couldn't fix it. Newer cars do not come with spares nowadays so we were going to have them tow it to the closest tire shop to replace it. The manager fixed the problem! He apologized for any inconvenience and was able to give us a tire so we didn't have to go to another place or have our car towed. I dropped off my car for rear brake work one morning at this location as it's next to my work. I get a call quoting me 400 plus dollars for rear brake pads and I told them to proceed. I get another call 10 minutes later and I'm told "oh you got a problem now." I was told that the caliper piston is "stuck" and that now I needed new calipers, brake pads and rotors on BOTH sides for $1,200. I told him to put the old brakes back on the car and I'll pay him for the 'inspection'. I go to pick up the car and I'm told by the manager that they cannot release the car to me because it is now undrivable-it has no rear brakes. I pointed out that I dropped off a perfectly drivable car in the morning. They essentially would not admit to any wrongdoing or fault or even give an explanation for the stuck pistons on both sides. All they told me was that it's an old car and it needs to have this work done at their shop. The manager told me to call the police if I didn't like it..so I called her bluff. She was shocked when a police officer arrived and she then admitted that one bolt that mounts the caliper was broken off- one on EACH side. Of course they did not call me after they sheared off the first side to tell me. I believe they were excessively rough with the car and broke off what they needed in order to make some extra money. In the end, I had to pay AAA $90 to tow the car to my house and I had a mobile mechanic finish the job. It was funny because when they gave me the car back, they just gave me the key and zero paperwork-a true sign of their shadiness. When the car arrived in my driveway, it was missing the $40 or so in quarters I had in the console--every single quarter was stolen- such a classy outfit. I called the Georgia corporate office to complain about the two above issues and all they offered was to mail me a check for $40. They also said that they would roll back the cameras and see who stole the money. I declined their offer and told them I would rather write this review. I would avoid this location at all costs. I called ahead because my AAA battery kept dying everytime I shut off my engine. I didn't want to call Roadside Assistance and burn up another service call on my membership, so I stopped into AAA Toco Hills. While it was busy, they were able to run the battery test on my battery. While I didn't have my battery receipt AND my old battery was out of warranty by a few months, they did me a solid and replaced it free of charge. Not sure if this type of service is an outlier, but I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. I will be bringing my car back here for future AAA related service needs. read more

I lived next to this Lavista so I went for my oil changes for 2-3 years. During this time, I had multiple issues that were ignored and overlooked with condescending tones about how nothing was wrong. If my car is signaling issues, then its either an issue with the electrical or the actual issue. Now after I was told it was a fluke (Toyota dealer and AAA Lavista), AAA East Cobb tested the sensors and all but 1 works totaling over $500. I don't how this store could overlook the issue outside of laziness. The only positive is the shuttle. read more

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. They replaced my clutch several months ago. It went out. I had the car towed to their shop several weeks ago. They called me several days later and said that the hose attached to the clutch had to be replaced, but they had to find it because it was an older vehicle. I called the Shop several days later. I was told that my car would be sent to a mechanic who could replace the hose. That was on a Friday. I called the next Tuesday, assuming my car had been repaired. To my shock and horror, my car was still parked outside, untouched. I called to find out what was going on. Unbelievably, I was told the person responsible for my car was on vacation. Really? So I was expected to wait another week for him to return. I, immediately, had my car, which hadn't been repaired l, towed back to my house. They were unapologetic about the incident. I am still waiting for a call and apology, a week later. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and filing a complaint and of course their main AAA location. read more

Man, I love these guys! They have been awesome to me for years now. They are quick, courteous, and very kind. When I had my car towed in for catastrophic engine failure, it was so bad they were nice enough to not charge me for the diagnostics! They have my new car today...had it towed in last night, they checked it in at 8:00, diagnosed by 9:30, parts ordered, and I'll have it back by the end of the day. They are expensive but worth it. Took my car in for a standard service and they gave me a quote for several other repairs that my regular mechanic verified I didn't need. On the way to the other shop, the underbody trim piece came loose and started dragging on the ground, so they didn't even do the regular service right (or maybe intentionally left it loose). Either way, I'd stay away from this place. read more

Had my Jeep taken there because the north side AAA did very well but I wasn't close to them. I was expecting that the battery was bad and needed to be changed. I had tested the alternator before having it towed and it was charging at 14V. But when I jumped off the Jeep it would just shut off on its own. Got a call back that not only the battery was bad but so was the alternator. And I could have it all fixed for $1000. Being a little suspicious I told them to just replace the battery and I would take it somewhere else to check the alternator. They argued with me and said I would not get far but I insisted. The next phone I got was the shop saying the new battery was installed and magically the alternator was working. Imagine that. Anyways if you can make sure you check your equipment before trusting a for-profit shop. read more
