The best thing about the visit was that we got our own pod that was separated from outside. So, basically if you make a reservation and request then you get a pod which is basically a plastic bubble that separates you from rest of the place. Its outside, so you get to enjoy outdoors but fully covered and insulated so you can take your masks off. Our pup had a good time since we had our own pod (no way for him to escape). The place is byob and the staff is very friendly. We ordered the cold platter, and cheese rolls for apps and manti and adana kebab for entrees. The food was tasty. No complaints. Everything was well cooked. Loved the cheese rolls. Always wanted to try manti and it was delicous here. I would recommend this place. Also, if you check in via Yelp then you get free Turkish tea. Everything got so tasty. now they have a lunch special menu which is three courses appetizer, main, tea or desert $19.95 I had a lentil soup which was amazing like deserves more than 5 stars. They served with warm bread calls pide. As a entrees I ordered Adana kebab. Even though it's a lunch special, the portion sizes are pretty big. The Adana kebab was so juicy and well cooked. Came here for Valentine's Day with a reservation for 6:30pm. We arrived at 6, and were promptly seated, as there was an empty table for two available. The place was bustling with energy and conversation. Casual surroundings and decor, so this makes a nice setting for a family/friend gathering or a casual date. The tables were filled up until closing hour, so keep in mind that during busy times, you're better off with making a reservation. Not a lot of space, so not the best spot for parties larger than 8. The service was solid. We were checked upon by our waiter despite him being busy with a lot of other customers. We were not rushed to finish our meal and leave to free up the table during a busy evening. We remained until 11pm, when the space was clearing out for the night. When I checked-in on Yelp and asked to redeem the promotional feature of one free turkish tea, our waiter was sweet to give us an additional turkish tea on the house :) The love and appreciation of customers were definitely in the air that Valentine's Day evening! My best friend goes to this restaurant a lot, and she was right--the food and experience are worth returning for. Complementary warm turkish bread and olive oil were a nice touch. We both got the $22 iskender and looooved it! The portion was massive! Two people could easily split it and be full. Gyro-style sliced lamb is mixed with chopped turkish bread and served in a fragrant and well seasoned tomato sauce with real tomato chunks. With a generous side of yogurt. The metal plate [or rather a tub, that's how generous the portion was] comes right out of the oven, so you enjoy the hot food for longer. I cannot enjoy food once it gets cold, but this dish remained warm for sooo long. AND, even once it got cold, it was still shockingly delicious! We pigged out and finished our gigantic portions. We got $8 almond pudding to share for dessert. The cool and calming flavor profile was a welcome contrast to the full, vibrant after-taste of our main dish. This is a wonderful cozy Turkish restaurant a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of midtown! I came here for lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was only about half full. The waitstaff was very quick and responsive. We ordered the lamb shank, grilled whole branzini and grilled dorado. The portions were massive and a very good deal for the price. The lamb shank was extremely tender and melted in my mouth. The fish were wonderful as well--grilled to perfection. For dessert we had the baklava and pudding. The baklava was nice and crispy but I found both desserts a bit cloyingly sweet. Would definitely recommend this place for a lowkey meal around Columbus circle! read more

Last night five of us dined outside at ABA and we all departed after the meal very impressed! It was the first visit for two of us ~ the others in our party were returnees!. As others have written, the service here is extraordinary (thank you Koram (?) the Turkish server who has a wife from Japan and only works at ABA on Saturday nights and is very personable and efficient) and the food was well prepared and excellent tasting. Whereas I am from Brooklyn, I compare all Turkish restaurants to Taci Beyti, my hometown favorite. The food here is just as tasty - the difference being that the food at ABA is a little less seasoned than at Taci, so a little different in flavor but the cuisine at both restaurants is above average! We began with a delicious Greek salad (fantastic stuffed grape leaves) and the always delicious Turkish bread and olive oil combo. Also of mention is the feta cheese on the salad that was far less salty than at most restaurants. For main courses we selected doner kebab, iskender kebab, chicken shish kebab, ali nazik and grilled whole Branzino (sea bass). Each dish was flavorful and plentiful. We decided to be good and not have dessert but instead ended with Turkish coffee and tea. Being a BYOB restaurant allowed us to enjoy (a lot of) wine with our meal without inflating the check! We stayed down the street from this restaurant while in New York. We just had to try it before we laughed, and it did not disappoint! They have a lovely patio and we even met some regulars who let us know you can bring your own bottle of wine or champagne as well with no corkage fee. They have a selection of wines including Turkish wine which I enjoyed very much. They start you with bread and oil which is super yummy. We ordered some hummus for our appetizer and shared it. We had the falafel salad and the Sultans delight. The portions are generous. The puréed at plant was one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted in my life. In speaking with the regulars, they recommended the Turkish coffee, and if we were having a larger dinner, I would've loved to try more of their lamb dishes. This is a great spot for groups, and it looks like they have some pretty amazing desserts. I wish I would've had room to try some. They have excellent and accommodating service. I was in New York visiting for the first time & I ended up needing to go to a random urgent care. I was starving after so I didn't bother yelping anything (as I usually do) I just walked into the very first restaurant I bumped into & thankfully that was ABA! What a nice experience my sister & I had after a chaotic morning. The food was beyond delicious. We did the lunch special & the flavors paired well. I don't recall exactly what I had but there was soup, veggies, meat & a cute little tea cup at the end of the meal. When you date someone who is Turkish, you get to try all of the Turkish restaurants in the neighborhood so after a decent but unspectacular meal at Turkuaz, the next place we tried was ABA. We came on a Saturday night and it was packed, but we were able to get a table without too much waiting. We started with cheese rolls and zucchini pancakes. The cheese rolls were great...pastry was crisp. The zucchini pancakes were good as was the sauce they came with. I will say that the appetizers were also filling. By the time I got to my entree, Sultan's delight, I was getting full. I enjoyed the flavors and textures in the Sultan's delight and ended up taking half it home (it was delicious as leftovers too!) They have a "4-course special" until 7pm for $29 per person and I suggest you do it, though it's more like 3 courses considering one is tea/coffee and that isn't exactly a "course" but whatever, poe-tay-toe poe-tot-oh. The hummus was good and the shepherd salad was very fresh. We also had the lamb adana kebab and the grilled trout. Both were very good and it's a nice portion of meat/fish. For the trout you can either get the entire fish as a whole or the kitchen can filet it for you which is a nice option. For dessert we got one chocolate pudding and one almond pudding. The chocolate tasted like a snack pack but I really liked the almond pudding. Service was good, you can tell they're trying hard with Covid. Overall great experience. read more

But I must mention the reviews before this one were all correct. In that, the food is fresh and tasty but the service is horrible and inconsistent. For that, I couldn't rate it with 5 stars. That's something this establishment has to work on seriously. There was one waitress for seven tables on the sidewalk. She was very pleasant in attitude and helpful with recommending dishes. But once the food came out, it was a challenge to get her assistance. Let's talk food....the salmon had this crust on both sides that was sooooooo good! You could taste the salt and herbs. It was well seasoned. Ohhhh my goodness! Fresh bread was served with the meal that was the perfect combination of taste, softness and crispy. The other reason I took away another star, is because the chairs and tables weren't properly sanitized after every party. That was really horrible. Especially during this pandemic. I was a big fan of this place, located very close to the southwest corner of Central Park. They've added some outdoor seating to the area, so you can do that if it's nice outside, which it was on the day we went. Authentic Turkish cooking and typical regional dishes are on the menu here. The bread is more like a focaccia than a pita, which might surprise some people, but either way it was really good. You get a giant plate of food here, so come hungry. I must have had almost a pound of meat on my entree, but I dutifully plowed through it because it was so tasty. My cousin and I ordered take out from here last night. She lives across the street and we both decided it was a good place to try. I ordered a small shepherd's salad and chicken shish kebab. She ordered a Mediterranean salad. Together, we shared the hummus and red lentil balls. When we had called to place the order, we asked the person how the lentil balls were cooked. He told us they were fried, like a falafel. However, when we got them they were flat like a pancake and 100% not fried. They looked more like the ingredients were mixed together and then shaped. They did not appear to be cooked at all. The hummus was on the thinner side, but it was good. My chicken shish kebab was very juicy. To be honest, I was expecting it to be dry like chicken usually is. The tzatziki sauce on the other hand, was something I did not care fore. It was extremely watery and lacked any flavor. The shepherd's salad was excellent. The cucumbers and tomatoes were fresh and still had a crunch to them. The Turkish food was superb, the restaurant has a cozy feel to it and the staff all around was highly attentive and even came back to check on us at several touch points to ensure we didn't need anything else. My long-time college friend is a regular here, but I was very impressed by the lamb shank with eggplant and rice I ordered plus the smoked rice pudding. I've honestly never had rice pudding like that, even being half Persian and half Indian, I've had my share of kheer, firni, even my Hispanic friends have turned me into arroz con leche, but this one came in a little clay bowl, was toasted on the top and had great smoke flavor, it was like it was caramelized at the top and creamy on the inside. I didn't choose this place to eat so I didn't know what to expect, but it sounded good and what we ordered piqued my interest. Everything looked pretty good - we ordered a variety of shish kebab wraps filled with different proteins as well as a large salad. I went with a chicken selection and took some of the salad as a side. The wrap was good, it wasn't exploding with flavor but the seasonings were nice and it had a decent amount of chicken. The salad was really fresh - it was filled with lots of goodies and dressed nicely. A highlight was the big chunks of feta in it - I'm a sucker for cheese mmmm. Picked by the birthday boy, a group of us came here on a Friday evening for a joint birthday celebration. I know for a fact this place was picked for the simple fact that it's BYOB and my friends love indulging in some wine and are a bit picky with their beers. We had a reservation which was a good move since it was pretty busy that evening. Luckily for us one of our friends is Turkish so she pretty much did the bulk of the organizing for whatever was needed for the table besides our main course. Since we enjoy sharing our food with one another i was able to try the various dishes on the table from salads to calf's liver. I decided to be the least adventurous of us all and ordered the Chicken shish kebab which was a bit bland and lacking flavor. I did enjoy the kofte and the musakka dish that my friends ordered. The branzino was a too boney and probably not a dish any of us would order again. The chicken chops was a pleasant surprised and a dish with some good flavor. We then ended with two desert dishes; one of which I'm still unclear as to what it was but it was definitely delicious. The other was different flavored baklava which was a nice dish to end the evening. The service was amazing and all dishes were served with a smile. I probably picked the least exciting dish of the evening but would love to come back to try many of the other dishes on the menu.
