Despite its beautiful "light rippling off water" aesthetic, it seems that both the service and the flavor at Abalone Bar & Grill have been washed ashore. The waitstaff occasionally materializes just long enough to deliver disappointing food before vanishing once more, seemingly uninterested in the experience they are meant to provide. Obtaining a simple condiment appears to be an act of open rebellion against the restaurant's values. And should you wish to leave, you may as well rent a room next door, for it will be a fortnight before your bill makes its inevitable appearance. A lovely setting can only carry a meal so far. The service here wasn't great, the servers looked unhappy. There's a lot of space, but the seating area feels awkward. The food was fine, actually better than the Country Grill across the street. My husband and I shared the shrimp & chips and the patty melt. You get six shrimp so it wasn't too filling if that's all you have, but the patty melt was great, good meaty, cheesy goodness. Options in the area are very limited and they were just getting ready reduce their days open so make sure they're open before you stop. read more

Came here for an early dinner, and the place had maybe three tables with people eating. Nevertheless, we sat for half an hour before anybody came over to take our order or give us water. The food itself was pretty good overall, although the fried fish had an actual pool of grease at the bottom of the basket. It seemed like there was only one waiter on staff, and that he would really rather be doing something else. He mostly avoided the tables, walking very slowly when it was time to take the order of the table next to us. He then slowly walked right past our table, as if we didn't exist. At no point did anyone check in on us. Our water was long gone, and there wasn't even anybody to ask to come refill it. They never gave us utensils either, so we had to eat everything with our bare hands. Eventually, the waiter sauntered over, and said "are you guys done?" I pointed out that we never got utensils, and asked for more water. He eventually returned with both, and then disappeared for another 20 minutes. Even when we told the busser that we were ready to pay the check, it took a long time for our wait or to reappear. Waiting tables isn't an easy job. I know that from experience. The food was pretty decent, so it seems like the kitchen has their act together. But the front of the house really seemed like they wanted to be *anywhere* else. read more

Although this place is conveniently next to the holiday inn, the food was rather disappointing and wouldn't recommend. The place did the job to feel full after a long driving day, but if you're looking for great food it'll be difficult if staying in Klamath. Sadly wouldn't come back. read more

Well...there was not a lot of choices in Klamath for dinner. We were staying at IHG next door and read the reviews - so we went in with low expectations. When we arrived for dinner, the restaurant wasn't super busy - we were told to seat ourselves. We sat down. We placed our order in an acceptable amount of time from sitting down. Then things went downhill. Food took forever to come (we saw other patrons that were seated after us receive their food). When we asked about our food, somebody came by our table and asked what our order was? Really? Had to wait a while again for the food to come. We were sharing one dish. Had to ask for extra plate....extra utensils.... The salad dressing was incorrect - needed that fixed. We couldn't get out of this restaurant fast enough. I almost think had I gone to the gift shop at IHG and purchased a frozen meal, then microwaved it in the room, that probably would have been better than our dinner. Just saying.... Well, we are grateful that this was the only place open on Thanksgiving and it's super close to our hotel. We got seated at 5pm right after they opened. Food was actually not too bad, however it took 1 hour before our food arrived... (it took them 30min before telling us that the things we wanted ran out). We spent the night in Klamath and were told this was the only place in town to eat. Upon reading several mixed reviews about the place, we went in open minded. It was great since it was connected to the hotel so we didn't need to travel there. As we walked in we received a friendly greeting right away. We took a booth and someone came over with menus and took our drink order right away. The menu was small and simple, I got the French Dip and my wife ordered the steak. The menu at the restaurant is very different than the menu they advertise. There were only a few options on the actual 1-page menu compared to the multiple offers of their posted menu. My buddy had a burger that he liked. The healthiest choice I could find was a grilled chicken sandwich with a side salad. I really do not understand how management does not take action with the lady at the establishment. The food is ok at best but the service is horrendous and like I said - do not understand why management is not taking any type of action. We were at the bar the first night and we had to basically beg for a refill on our drinks. The second night we thought we would eat at the table to avoid her but we had the same lady again. The service was good but I had to question the food quality. They were not serving anything on plates, it was all in to go boxes, apparently directed by management to save money on a dishwasher and server from what I was told. The place had several tables filled but everyone was eating out of to go boxes, not what I would expect from a restaurant. That made me question how long they were holding food over from previous days. I can say I didn't get sick and the food was decent but it was apparent they were cutting corners. The prices are adequate and the place was clean. I appreciate that they're very serious about their Covid precautions for patrons. However the staff weren't wearing gloves or masks. The day we went there was only one cook, so this is more of a review of management not staffing vs the staff themselves. I don't know if there's always only one cook or not, or if it's always this slow because we don't live in the area. We waited over an hour and 20 minutes for 2 meals. Then when our food was ready, our pager didn't go off and it sat there getting cold for 10 minutes until we went and checked again. This was our first time coming to the Abalone Bar & Grill. We had a great dinner here. Aurelia was our server, and she was super friendly and nice . The food was really good. My husband had the steak special and clam chowder. He added shrimp to the meal. It was all very delicious. I ordered the French dip with tator tots. I highly recommend adding mushrooms and cheese to the French dip. I couldn't finish it; it was so big! I recommend trying the Klamath Mermaid drink. It has Rum, pineapple juice, and Blue curacao. If I could give this place less than one star I would. First we ordered draft beers which came out as bottled and were warmer than room temp. We then ordered a philly cheese steak with side salad and a chicken strip meal with another side salad. This was only because everything else we wanted (and as advertised currently on their website) was missing from the menu. Both salads were warm as in not refrigerated, the "philly" was deli roast beef microwaved on a pre-toasted and cold roll and the chicken strips were tyson freezer strips from Wal-Mart. I also echo the staffing issues in that whoever the main person running the front counter should be fired immediately. I would argue compared to the pics of the food they display this place is a total bait and switch setup which depends on scamming people who are trapped. RUN FAR AWAY AND NEVER GO HERE!!!! For information I was just here yesterday, 5/25/25 and paid $500 for my room next door. We were surrounded in redwood forests with minimal dinner options. So I wasn't expecting much when we walked into Abalone (the most convenient option since it was next to our hotel). However, the food was surprisingly tasty. I got the veggie burger with a side of french fries, which is the only vegetarian choice on the menu. The burger was too spicy but it had a lot of black beans, which helped soothe the tongue. The meal also came with access to their salad bar, so you definitely get your money's worth. The salad bar was not extensive but it had everything you would need: different types of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, croutons, and several dressings. Yes, it's in a casino but the casino is literally one small room. Don't picture the restaurant getting invaded with smoke and gambling stumblers. The service was okay and they offer outdoor seating. We came to eat dinner here on a Friday evening and were seated promptly. The waitresses were friendly, but service was unbelievably slow. I tried some of my boyfriend's clam chowder and it was just awfully grainy. I ordered a seafood pasta dish, which was good. The menu said it came with a side salad so I ordered one with salmon. The waitress brought my salad out first and I started to dig in, avoiding the cold bony pieces of salmon. When my boyfriend's salad arrived, I noticed it was significantly smaller than mine. I asked the waitress if there was a mix up with my salad and she simply said that I had ordered two entrees. I looked at her with a puzzled face. If she could not accommodate the salad as a side, why didn't she tell me that up front? She apologized and just took it back free of charge for the mix up. Oh man. Whatever bartender they had that night was really unequipped to make drinks. First, we wait 30 minutes to get some orange drink they called an old fashioned and when I ordered my mojito I nearly lost it. I don't get upset very often, but I do get irritated if I have to send something back two times because #1 it was first made with mint and club soda...she completely forgot the alcohol and sugar #2 it came back with alcohol, but no sugar, and was not about to give the bartender a third opportunity to mess up so I just sent it back. I mean, honestly! If your waitress is telling you that another waitress can make better drinks for you, it means that your establishment is in need of a more competent bartender. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day with a group of friends for a 8:30PM dinner. Unfortunately, despite the amazing decor... overstaffed waiters and waitresses.. and sweet manager, we didn't get seated until 8:50PM. Oh, and there were like 5 empty tables. I used to work at restaurant and I could tell management needed some work. When we got seated, we got super excited as we were starving and exhausted from a long day of traveling. Guess what? We didn't get our orders in for another 10 minutes. We didn't get our bread for another 10 minutes.. And we even had to ask again for them. Apparently, there was a miscommunication. Oh okay, no problem. To be honest, the bread was the best part of that night's meal! I ordered the Chicken Fettuccini and it was fairly good! They gave a huge portion, which was a plus. My clam chowder, on the other hand.. Tasted super watered down. I was convinced it came out of a can. My friend ordered the steak and it looked dry as heck. He had to even ask for sauce for his entree. It took awhile to get the staff attention as well while his steak started becoming cold. My other friend ordered the salmon salad, which was just "okay" in her opinion. After discussing with the manager, she quickly tried to patch things up. I told her the service was kind of rough. She even offered a free dessert, which was very sweet of her. She said the restaurant is fairly new and the staff is still green. For having been open for four months.. This "new" excuse doesn't work anymore. Overall, I'm not too fond of giving this place another chance again. Did I mention that my server literally leaned in my direction and almost dropped some of my entree's sauce on me? She missed me by an centimeter, but my jacket suffered a few drops. From the reviews it didn't seem like a good option but since we didn't have much of a choice we thought we'd give it a try, especially when you're hungry. We were staying at the hotel next-door and did takeout instead of dining in. I'm so glad we gave the restaurant a chance, I think they took the reviews to heart because they made some great changes. We ordered the fish and chips, I've never tasted better. Fish was fresh and crunchy delicious, we also ordered a burger and fries, burger was a juicy generous size and the fries were so crispy and fresh and lastly we ordered the chicken strips and fries, chicken was all white meat, juicy and tender. We normally don't eat this much fries but I'm glad we had a lot of it because it was really tasty. Overall, we all had a great dining experience in our room thanks to the Abalone Restaurant. It's pub food trying to be a nice restaurant. Showed up in a dress to match the casino ambiance and got .... appetizers served on a Sonic-style paper basket. They were pretty decent, but the "Caesar salad" was literally just a small bowl of iceberg lettuce with some Parmesan thrown on top, dressing on the side, for $12. The wine was cheap swill in my opinion- it might literally have been Franzia. Somehow 3 or more servers working at once were failing to manage exactly 5 small tables at a decent pace, so I'm not sure what might have been going on behind the scenes. I wanted to order a drink but could barely flag someone down to fill my water glass. At one point a drunk guy at the bar starting getting belligerent and nobody bothered to have him escorted out. Overpriced and underwhelming. Unfortunate that its the only place to eat in Klamath if you're touring the Redwoods. read more

I pointed to bacon in the chowder and asked why he hadn't informed me. He said, "You should have known." I then ordered grilled cheese. The server came back and asked, "Fries or Tater Tots? The restaurant was pristine! The servers were very friendly and sincere, and the food was excellent (I had the Salmon fettuccine and it was possibly the best salmon & pasta dish I've ever had). The restaurant is nice but with a casual atmosphere on a Monday night. I gave 4 stars because my glass sat empty for almost 10 min after we ordered and before we got our food. And, while we were waiting for our entrees after finishing our salads, the mood felt more like the meloncholy that sets in after eating a heavy meal than excitement and anticipation for the meal to come. The atmosphere of the restaurant could definitely use some spicing up! While the service was fine, there were multiple disappointments, starting with the fact that the casino and restaurant don't share the working Wi-Fi with the next door Holiday Inn...while developed together on one property, they run as separate businesses (even though Abalone is the hotel restaurant, and the Holiday Inn is the hotel for the casino/restaurant). Anyway, the Wi-Fi network can't be found in the restaurant, you have to walk around the casino until you find it...but it's so weak that it's as good as useless. The menu is very limited (you can't get a steak or chicken dinner for example). Our grilled cheese was made with Velveeta, and the soup (clam chowder) hadn't been thinned in hours. The salad bar was relatively fresh, but the dressings were unappetizing as presented, and who does salad bars anymore? My hamburger was big and cooked correctly, but seemed excessively greasy. The iced tea (in plastic glasses) tasted like it was either stale or made in the same machine as the coffee maker. The ambiance was pleasant and the outdoor deck was nice. read more

I spent a few days in the Klamath area, trying clam chowder from restaurants along the Northern coast. The clam chowder here was the best out of five that I tried, which was a big surprise for me because I figured I couldn't get much better than one of the little seafood places that are famous for their clam chowder. I actually came to the Abalone for steak and, OH MY GOODNESS!!!! The absolute BEST steak ever! And the cheese burger was amazing! So, three wonderful surprises in one!! Salina was our server, and among all the restaurants we visited on our trip she was the most memorable as well, not because she tried drawing attention to herself, because she didn't. She was professional, efficient, sharp, and at the same time, she was friendly and showed just enough of her charming personality and warm spirit, letting us know she really enjoys what she does. read more
