This place had great food but their service was terrible. My husband and I ordered steaks. He ordered a medium rare ribeye and I ordered a medium strip. They brought it out and didn't check to see if it was cooked correctly. My husband's steak was medium and mine was medium rare and way too bloody for me to eat. We ended up switching steaks because our waitress was nowhere to be found during our meal. We were about halfway through it already when she came to check on us. I explained what happened and she didn't do anything about it and didn't apologize. The ribeye was very tasty, however it wasn't what I ordered and my husband wasn't too happy about eating a strip. The food never failed me it really was good food. Pricey but quality. We stayed at the Holiday Inn attached for 2 nights and ate here for both dinners. Really don't have an option much for dinners unless you want to drive 40+ min to Crescent City. We actually were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. Steak fantastic! Wild caught salmon delicious! Really the Sweet Potato fries were really the star, perfectly cooked! They honestly were the best I've ever had and I've had a lot! ORDER THE SWEET POTATO FRIES! Clam chowder was good not the best but good. Spinach salad was fresh, but no real balsamic dressing. They just give you oil and balsamic vinegar. Please get real balsamic dressing! The service was kinda slow but no wait for a table on a weekend and once we got the blonde waitress with the resting b face. Com'on smile once in a while, friendly service adds to your tip and don't be annoyed that you have customers and that they ask questions about the menu. That's kinda your job. Food here is excellent. Top sirloin was cooked medium rate exactly as we ordered. The salmon was cooked perfectly, pink in the middle. The side dishes of vegetables and mashed potato were average, nothing special. The clan chowder was excellent, tasted unique, like it was a home made recipe, and not like canned. Wait staff either needs more training or the restaurant is understaffed. It took a long time to get our drinks delivered, and a long time to get them refilled. My sandwich was great, loved the fries too, but my poor hubby had the smallest sandwich I have ever seen!! It looked like it was made for the kids menu. Seriously, would not fill up any adult. Absolutely incredible birthday dinner at Abalone grill last night. First off, stop what you're doing and order the clam chowder. Best I've had in my life, EVER. You're doing yourself a disservice if you only get a cup of it. Next, get the seafood dip, because it kicks ass. Fresh, creamy, cheesy, and served piping hot. Cannot recommend those two dishes enough! Entrees of Pacific salmon and spicy salmon fettuccini we're good, very fresh, and with a unique flavor from the local Klamath river. Ate everything on my plate with a local ipa brewed by one of the Yurok tribe members and the Steelhead extra pale from mad river. All around excellent, highly recommended if you're in the area. We were staying at the hotel next door and our choices for restaurants were the Abalone Bar & Grill or the smoke filled Country Club Bar & Grill across the street. We sat at the bar, were greeted and served promptly. Service was excellent and food was very good. The restaurant is connected to the casino and they are both non smoking facilities so you don't have to worry about smoke coming in from the casino. It's also posted on the doors that they are smoke free. When I inquired as to why the place across the street was filled with smoke, I was told because it's on reservation land and they can smoke there if they want. My sister and had a long day hiking in the Redwoods. We were staying at the Holiday Inn connected to the casino. Went down for dinner, this was the only thing open in town. We waited almost 10 minutes to be seated when there were plenty of open tables. Everyone was getting the salad bar with their meal so you know it was fresh. Not much to it though, LOL! All in all it took almost an hour and a half to get food. Horribly slow kitchen staff. Apparently it is really hard to get people to work since it's such a small kind of remote town. Once we finally got our food it was delicious! Our server was accommodating and the manager was nice to deal with. They say this is just a problem on Mondays. Maybe we'll try it again since the food was great though. We ordered a chicken burger and an angus burger both with mashed potatoes. Everything had great flavor. read more

It's very mediocre but there aren't many choices in Klamath. Clam chowder is amped up with bacon, partially to hide the fact that there's not much clam. Bread was decent but they add raw green onions to their butter - very odd and somewhat offputting. Penne and seafood were drowning in a cream sauce but the overall flavor was good. While visiting the Redwoods, my boyfriend and I wanted to grab a bite to eat. Even though it was only half after 8 o'clock on a weekend night, there wasn't much of a restaurant selection in this small town, so we didn't have much of a choice but to check out Abalone Bar & Grill despite the not-so-hot reviews. We were seated right away in the unique looking dining room that played off of the aesthetic of an abalone shell. Even though there were only about 3 other groups seated in the dining room, our waitress took well over 5 minutes to make it to our table. While we were waiting, we looked over the small menu, which offered pretty standard casino food, with an emphasis on seafood, considering the restaurant is so close to the ocean. Even though the menu was small, it did offer soup and a choice of potato with all entrées and a soup with the pasta dishes, along with bread and butter. I ordered the Yurok'd seafood penne with clam chowder, and my boyfriend ordered the salmon burger, also with the clam chowder; can't deny that on the coast! The chowder came out with the bread, and was pretty tasty. Very rich and creamy, and of course delicious when dipping in a slice of bread. Next came our entrees. Our waitress recommended that my boyfriend supplement his burger with a Thai sauce and basil, which was a great suggestion. However, the slice of salmon was almost laughingly small. But the bun was buttered, toasted and yummy! The sweet potato fries that came on the side were good, but nothing to write home about. The seafood pasta had a yummy spicy cream sauce, which didn't have too much of a bite; just right for my taste. But the seafood portioning was quite the let down. Rather than being displayed on top of the pasta, the dinky seafood selection was buried. A so-so dish overall. The waitress came to see if we had finished up after not checking on us during the meal, afterwards bringing the check and not offering to box the remainder of the seafood pasta. She was, however, very kind about splitting the check after we forgot to ask her earlier in the meal. Tl;dr- Nice enough waitress with slow service, solid soup, very subpar entrees. read more

This place was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. It was my son's 4th birthday and we were staying at the hotel adjacent. After a long day hiking in the redwoods we were starved and wanted to take him somewhere special. It was a very slow night at the restaurant, (three other groups) but we might have seen our waitress twice and she made it obvious she didn't care about our presence. It took 20 minutes just to get water and we didn't get refills. We ordered chicken picatta, a burger, and two kids meals. The salad situation was weird and we had to walk across the restaurant to serve our own. Most of the items at the salad bar were out. When we were brought our food it wasn't cooked. Even the burger was almost raw despite ordering it medium well. Because our waitress never returned we walked out with three out of four plates of our food uneaten (my youngest ate some pasta, he was starved). We stopped to pay at the hostess station because she was the only person we could find. I stewed for about an hour before going to the front desk of the hotel and complaining. I will say the hotel offered us a refund (which we took) and ended up sending the cook out to talk to us. He was apologetic, but we never got an apology for the wait service and we were still hungry. My fishing pals had dinner here and I have to say it was A-OK. I had the prime rib and while it did not look appealing, it tasted pretty darn good. It came with decently cooked fries and an all you can eat salad bar. The salad bar was simple but the ingredients were fresh. We had our own wine and they charged a nominal corkage fee. The service was friendly and attentive. There aren't many great dining options in Klamath but this restaurant and bar were just the ticket for a great fishing weekend. If I fish the salmon next year, I certainly will stay at the Holiday Inn Express and dine at their Abalone Bar and Grill. read more

I love this place, I've only been there once. I had the ribeye steak and potatoes. It was delicious. I didn't see much of a dessert menu, one should be added. It's really the only good restaurant within a 20 mile radius. It's rather small but they accommodated a large party for us. It was about 15 of us who attended. I can't wait to go back. The casino is pretty small, but I don't gamble anyway. It's a small tribe but they have a beautiful area. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews but I also hate paying for bad food. I can't recommend. It was all out of a bag, not freshly made. The carrots on my salad were prepackaged not freshly grated and tasted awful. The blue cheese dressing was bad. The steak was cooked fine, but I had to season it myself as it tasted like it had little or none. The shrimp were not edible, precooked, not sautéd in garlic butter as you were lead to believe. Abalone Bar & Grill does fantastic food at an incredibly reasonable price, with a very friendly wait staff. It's a hotel restaurant inside a casino, and basically in the middle of nowhere with little competition, but we were so pleasantly surprised. The casino is small, nonsmoking and slots only, so inside the restaurant you completely forget it's there. The restaurant itself is clean and well-decorated, with a nice view onto a pretty back patio. We had the calamari, clam chowder and seafood penne one night, and the daily special cioppino and smoked salmon salad another night. All the items were delicious, with tons of fresh seafood (including abalone) in the penne and cioppino, and delicious house-smoked salmon in the salad. Both nights our total for two people came to less than $40. We will definitely stop by every time we're in the area, and you should too! read more

The food is good. Most items we've ordered have been tasty. That's not the problem. The service is slow, they seem extremely under staffed. We went on December 29th which was a Friday. They were about 2/3 full and the lady told us "it's gonna be a while" as she sat us and handed us the menus. She wasn't lying. Honestly I think the ladies are doing their best, they were going back and forth all night. But it took way too long to get our food, and we didn't get our drinks until the end of the meal. Everything we ate was delicious - we had Clam Chowder (amazing!), steak and prawns (well cooked and delicious) and Dungeness Mac&Cheese (sooo tasty). Then our waiter recommended a carrot cake and we took it to go since we were full. We decided to taste it when we got back to our motel room and could not stop eating it. This place is great because it's pretty much the only dinner option in the town of Klamath. And if you are staying at the motel, it's super convenient. The menu isn't large, so you can't expect to be picky. We ate there two nights, each night there were a few things on things on the menu they were out of, so our options were limited. They had a kids menu which was convenient. We had one nice waitress, one not nice waitress. You can make your own dinner salad, which is great. Except the waitress didn't tell us that so we didn't know till after our food had arrived that we were suppose to make our own. The smoked salmon salad was great. The burgers were good. I thought it would be crowded since it's the only place, but it wasn't and service was prompt. Reasonable prices. Plus if you don't have kids you can play slot machines after dinner. read more

Probably one of the worst dining experiences, especially for the price vs quality. We arrived at 11am, it took 5 minutes to be seated, another 5 for our drinks to arrive, and then another 15 (yes, 15) for our order to be taken. No one else was even there! They were "out" of three different things that we tried to order...but said they were rolling out a brand new menu today. The soup had NO flavor, I had to cut my Hog Wings with a knife, and the kids' cheese sandwich was mostly missing cheese. We had to ask for our check and eventually gave up asking for a box (the fries were pretty good...the house made ranch tasted like tarter sauce) before leaving. Beautiful design, awful service, and yet strangely overstaffed...at least a 2:1 ratio. Weird place! read more

This is a new place in Klamath, and it is inside the small casino they have there. Right next to Holiday Inn Express. Beautiful art work in the restaurant too as well as great places to sit on the patio. This is my second time there for lunch. This time, I had the pulled pork sandwich - yum. My mom ordered the pastrami sandwich. Two yums!! Fresh fries, too. I also liked the potato salad. Very nice waitress and comfortable, peaceful setting. I also want to highly recommend the small gift shop inside the Holiday Inn Express. Great local items at affordable prices. Some travel books too. read more

This restaurant is so good. We weren't expecting much and were so pleasantly surprised that it was so great. We ate lunch there one day and dinner the next. Everything my family ordered was awesome. We ordered the Salmon, the Pork Shank, and the Chicken Picatta. The desserts were amazing too. We had the Chocolate Cake and the Carrot Cake. The staff is friendly and the manager is awesome. Let me tell you my story of this awful place...we were seated quite quickly and then willfully ignored not once but three times!!! And what I mean by willfully ignored is that the waitress made eye contact with my husband and myself and then looked way and kept walking... After 15 mins of not even having drinks I strolled up to the bar to see if maybe I could get some drinks... Nope I stood up there for 5-7 mins when our waitress finally daned to come by our table... She took our drink orders, she didn't even know what they had in the way of wine, she said she was new and then handed me her cheat sheet and thank God for that cause god only knows how long it would have taken for her to get back to me with an answer... She then asked if we where ready to order... Um yeah honey after sitting here for 20 mins with nothing else to do of course we are ready to order... After that our drinks and food came quickly...however it was not made to request, my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and asked for no coleslaw and guess what his sandwich had on it... That's right coleslaw... So she took it back to the kitchen where apparently they just scraped the slaw off and not even very well... I got a steak with mashed potatoes... The menu said nothing about gravy of any kind and yet they came smothered in a terrible brown gravy, the steak was great and cooked how I asked and our friends burger was fine but nothing to make us want to make a return trip... Asked for a blue moon to drink with my steak she went off to get it and they where out.. So I asked for a shock top she didn't know what that was, so I settled for a Budweiser... Not bad but not what I wanted..We came here to get some food and then hang out in the casino... This review is mostly on the service although the food was nothing spectacular and was cold and not made to my order. When we got there we got seated pretty quickly there was only 4 other tables with people sitting down eating at them already there. The waitress was there to take our order in decent time about 5mins but she never told us the specials and I had to ask what their soup even was then when I ordered she forgot it . Our food took over 45mins to come out . My angus beef burger with American cheese tomato and lettuce came out cold and so were my sweet potato fries and as always even tho I said no mayo or onion I got a huge heaping serving of mayo all over my bun and lettuce and she forgot to bring the ketchup and mustard which I asked for twice. When I said I'll need a new bun because after it now being almost an hour and me having an infant I wasn't sending all the food back she took awhile and brought me a new one but never took away the old one or the in needed plates on such a tiny table we had to put then and the bread basket on a chair . The burger itself wasn't bad but cooked more than I asked and cold again, the fries were good although not salted cold and had too much oil soaked up in them. I'll regret eating them later but after a long day traveling we were hungry . My husband got the boneless chicken wings which came out hot and he said tasted good nothing special but fine, his coconut shrimp on the other hand had bad tasting batter and it would slip right off the shrimp and was over greasy... the waitress never noticed the plates or asked if she could take anything for us or even to top off our water . Wish their was more in the area but we would be willing to drive next time for a better meal And experience . I couldn't even pay my bill as she just handed me a little piece of paper as the bill and never came back !! So I had my husband take our son out and I looked for someone and waited for 10mins no one at the front and my waitress didn't come finally she saw me standing at our table in the middle of the room and cashed me out . Only open for less than a year. Very new and nice decor. The spinach salmon salad with honey mustard dressing (salmon from the area and the dressing is made in house) is a winner. The fries are also outstanding. Nice serving size with a nice aioli. The Kalamath seafood dip is so so. The seafood mix of crab, calamari and abalone is different than anything I've ever had. Thankfully the seafood was kind of placed on top of the cheese sauce which was gloppy and overbearing. My hubby has the grilled chicken sandwich with the coleslaw. He reported it to be very good. The ingredients looked very fresh. Not many places along this stretch of the highway to eat. Service is slow. Although we were there in the late lunch period. read more
