We walked to Abbott's Frozen Custard after enjoying lunch at Pippas Cafe. Any of our group ordered custard while others sat at the tables playing tic-tac-toe or the hook game. The vibe was casual and feared more towards children which is great. The custard was very good. I had a baby cup of their daily special - raspberry truffle. It was very tasty (especially when you got a larger raspberry swirl). It prices were higher than expected but then again I gave not ordered ice cream in a long while. Enjoy! read more

This is our new fav ice cream spot!! It's close by and we actually come here pretty often now for a sweet treat! I've had custard before and didn't like it so I was hesitant to try it again, but I'm so glad I did. Abbott's is pretty tasty and has quickly become my fav sweet treat now. I've only had the vanilla with sprinkles because it's sooooo good. Maybe soon, I'll venture into other flavors but I always enjoy the vanilla. They have a rotating special. I think it's monthly. There's plenty of parking and the staff is always super nice. The pricing isn't bad either and you really get a lot of custard. One scoop looks like 2 and so on. I appreciate that! This is a custard place but it tastes smooth, silky, and like almost regular ice cream. They have amazing flavors to choose from, I'll never forget the peanut butter and jelly I ordered once, it was one of best things I ever had in the ice cream world. My friends ordered cookies and cream and a strawberry shortcake sundae, wow! I saw the chunks of pound cake in the sundae, it was no joke. They also sell cookie ice cream which looks to die for. I stopped here for milkshakes with my daughter and for $18 we were handed two cups barely 2/3 full, see picture. I asked where the rest of our shakes were and was told they weigh the custard and because it was fresh it didn't fill up the cup. I walked in to a simply fantastic frozen custard shop. It smelled absolutely delicious. Their store was spotless and right in front they had a display case with nicely decorated ice cream cakes. The staff was very pleasant and friendly which made me feel welcome. I ordered a small cup with vanilla and chocolate custard. The flavor was heavenly but I really liked the creamy texture. This reminded me of my childhood, such wonderful memories including homemade frozen custard. My mom grew up on Abbott's back in western New York whenever the family was allowed to get frozen custard as a treat. She was amazed to hear that a location opened in NC, and we decided to stop in while I visited over the Labor Day weekend. Parking is fair - we came during the mid to late afternoon so there wasn't too much trouble with parking. The shop has a go-to window you can order from outside the shop and you can make orders inside. There were not many people in there so we walked up and made an order for three custards in waffle cones. The people working there were polite and worked pretty quickly with getting orders out. (Especially when a huge crush of people came in behind us.) The custard tasted exactly the way my mom remembered it. Texture is smooth but thick, unlike ice cream or other frozen treats. Abbott's is a cute local joint with a little walk up window and sweet indoor Café feel with history. The selection is short and sweet. A handful of flavors of the day, cones, 6 sundae varieties, milkshakes. Some toppings. I tried a small chocolate almond cone and it was pretty big. I loved the plopped nature of the cone (see the picture). The ice cream was nicely dense but so so soft. Not too sweet with lots of almond pieces in the custard. I enjoyed it. That said, Abbott's is like the more mature older brother who you can have a family with and Andy's is like the hot and wild younger brother. Andy's can fulfill anyone's wildest custard dream. Abbott's had a walk up window where you could place and receive orders and you could also go inside to order. There was no indoor seating due to COVID but there were a couple table benches outside to use. The cashier worker was very kind and enthusiastic, service was quick, the frozen custard was delicious (strawberry shortcake custard with rainbow sprinkles and whipped cream), prices were reasonable and I appreciated the steps they took to make sure customers were safe during the Covid pandemic (mask requirements, social distancing floor stickers, and shields at the counter). The custard is thick and creamy. There are over five different daily flavors to choose from with assorted toppings/mixins. My favorites are the chocolate peanut butter and fluffernutter. Waffles cones are made fresh. You can watch them making them behind the counter. Your custard is entirely customizable! They have pints and ice cream sandwiches to go.
