The blowout with Delphin was amazing, no heat tools just a blow dryer and pins and he made my hair so gorgeous and bouncy. Missing stars because of the girl who shampooed my hair was soooo rough with my hair. First of all it was insanely tangled after she was done shampooing it (not even sure how this happened, that never happens when I wash it) and she was SO rough brushing out the tangles. Starting at the top and trying to brush through and then starting at the middle and trying to brush through and making more knots and finally I said hey if you start at the bottom it's easier and she nodded her head yes and kept doing it how she was doing it. You need to be gentile with wet hair, that is when it is most fragile, even brushing roughly once when it is wet causes so much breakage in the future. I truly wanted to leave during this. Please train your shampoo staff to be gentile on hair. Also the toilet paper seemed like public bathroom toilet paper, I expected better from a decent salon. However, I would still come back for delphin and the rest of the staff who were incredibly friendly and welcoming. As long as I could choose someone else to shampoo my hair, I would even rather brush it out myself. read more

This salon was a lovely surprise. I came into the city for a last-minute formal event and didn't have time to make a hair appointment. I found the salon on yelp near the hotel in walking distance so I made an appointment. I called the same day and the woman who answered, was extremely friendly, and they were able to fit me in. When I arrived, the salon was clean and bright, and everyone was very welcoming. The gentleman who did my hair may have been the owner, he was incredibly polite and talented. Well, I ended up getting my hair recolored when I was overseas not the salon's issue but I just decided that darker hair with highlights looks better for skin tone. I was traveling abroad when I came to this aha moment and so got it done. This update is for a blow out - I never pay for them, I am cheap :) But I had a photo shoot and so decided to splurge for one. I was very happy with both the wash (I forget the girl's name; she was lovely and the wash was heavenly) and the blow dry. It was a humid and rainy day and so I decided to go for some volume and straight blow out so it is not limp by the time I get home for the photographer from the Times. I came here after months of quarantine and brunette outgrowth into my blonde highlights. Thankfully, everyone in the city looked like me, but as soon as I found out hair salons were open - I jumped at the opportunity to get some TLC for my hair. I found Abel's salon by browsing through places in my neighborhood to avoid taking the subway and his salon stood out to me. I liked the fact that it was a boutique salon and all the reviews on yelp were positive. (Much more than I can say for previous salons I've been to in my neighborhood...) Abel and his staff are SO professional and practice safe habits given the current circumstances. My temperature was checked upon arrival. Everyone was wearing a mask. I was seated in a chair away from others and they also had transparent plastic hanging between stations. Upon washing the highlights out - they add an extra barrier of a face shield which I appreciated since that is when they are pretty close to the face. They are also SO swift! I sat down and almost instantly had foils in my hair, which I appreciated! There is nothing better than getting in, getting foils, and getting out in under 4 hours. (This only took 2 hours so it was perfect!) The outcome of my hair was absolutely AMAZING. My blondness plus some had returned and I was stoked! Abel was also able to get super close to the scalp - you could have never known that my hair was indeed another color :P I look forward to returning to Abel's salon for more of my post hibernation hair needs. I am due for a hair cut... so that might be sooner rather than later :) read more

This was my first visit to this salon, and it was an entirely unpleasant experience. The hair wash feels you are getting mauled by an animal. Rather than saying "you can lean back now" like a human, the washer literally poked the back of my head. He then proceeded to give me the roughest shampoo of my life, making no effort to avoid getting soap and water in my ears, scrubbing my ears, etc. You will pay $55 for a cut with Abel, and unless you pay for a blow out, he will send you on your way into the 30degrees with damp hair, where you can't even see your cut properly. Not one star because the cut itself was fine. Genuinely confused how this place has good reviews. read more

I was in NYC Upper East Side to attend my son's wedding. The hotel nearby recommended Abel Najher Salon and I am so happy that I contacted them. I had booked appointments for hair and makeup nearly a year in advance and remained in contact with Edgar via email. Edgar was always approachable, warm and so accommodating as he assured me all was set up and ready to go when I arrive. On the day of the appointment my mother in law, sister in law and I met with our stylist Delfin who too was just as fabulous as Edgar. Delfin took the time to listen to our needs. After showing Delfin a photo of my gown I did something daring, I gave him carte blanche to create a look for me. Delfin was patient, artistic, and incredibly talented as he made us all look spectacular and I felt so beautiful. My only regret is that I do not live in NYC, otherwise I would visit Abel Najher Salon regularly. The entire staff was incredibly inviting, genuinely caring and fabulously professional. I went to this salon for the first time last weekend and had a wonderful experience. Especially during this strange time of the COVID pandemic, I can't recommend them enough. Starting with my email to the salon inquiring about prices of services that I needed to the final product - every aspect was seamless, professional, and efficient. I had my hair done by Abel with Edgar assisting and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. They were both very friendly and polite. Due to COVID, I was long overdue for color and a cut and they really did a great job. I live in the neighborhood and have walked by this salon countless times and finally found the perfect opportunity to try it out. I'll echo what another reviewer mentioned in that they are extremely professional and put everyone's safety first in their practices at the salon. Upon arrival, you must wait outside the salon until your temperature is checked and you are given the OK to enter, which I think is great. The salon is impeccably clean, very bright, with a fun/hip vibe. They practice social distancing in terms of seating clients and also have clear plastic barriers hanging between chairs. Everyone wears masks - both staff and clients. Plus contactless payment at the end. I felt very safe throughout the entire experience. I had half a head of highlights, haircut/blowout and loved the outcome. The price is very reasonable and affordable for NYC. I will definitely be back and hope they survive these crazy times. I have difficult, very over processed hair I'm trying to be gentle with and let grow out without causing additional damage. At a bare minimum I need routine root fills to cover grey that's creeping in. I scheduled with Abel, having moved nearby and I couldn't be happier. Everyone working in the salon was phenomenally nice. Abel was extremely knowledgeable, provided a lot of information on treating my hair to help me manage it without causing further trauma, AND he color corrected the shoddy work done by a different salon I'd last tried. I've been living in the neighborhood for a year but hadn't found a local hair salon just yet as I'd been waiting until after my wedding to switch over... I found Abel Najher on Yelp, noticing their prices were more reasonable than most other spots in the city (that weren't tiny barber shops). Seeing that they had a special for a cut and hair treatment, I booked an appointment for after work, and I'm so glad I did. Services: I first had my hair shampooed and treated by Danny (not sure on the name, but that's what my husband remembers Abel calling him... he has awesome pink hair at the time of this review). Their treatment smells AMAZING. While the conditioning treatment was in my hair, they sat me under an orbiting hair processor/dryer before washing it out. Throughout the process, Danny was super sweet and made sure I was comfortable, asking me if my neck was alright or the water temperature. After the treatment had been washed out, I sat in Abel's chair. Now, I had a lazy weekend where I didn't brush my hair as much as I should have, and so I ended up with a quarter-sized knot in the back. Abel was patient but super quick in getting the knot out. After that, my haircut didn't take very long (and I have a LOT of hair, as was commented on a few times lol). My hair was so soft afterwards and smelled so good that my husband literally wouldn't stop huffing me (creepy but flattering). It's been a few days and even after another wash, it's STILL amazingly soft and the layers look fantastic. Price: The prices here are affordable for Manhattan, and the haircut + treatment special is a great deal ($45 plus tax and tip), so make sure you take advantage while it lasts! Staff: Everyone here was super nice, and in case it matters to you, it seemed that most of the staff (if not all) spoke Spanish! Abel himself is from Colombia (though of Turkish extraction) and, judging from his skill, clearly is no stranger to thicker hair. Salon: The equipment, design, and overall vibe of this place is very nice. It's definitely a nicer hair salon (without the insane prices!) If you're looking for a higher quality hair experience without the big hit to your wallet that usually accompanies it, this is it. My husband booked his own appointment right after accompanying me on mine, and his hair looks great too... I'll definitely be back for another cut and possibly even a dye job! read more
