There aren't many places in the area for breakfast that aren't massive chains or fast food. Tucked into a shopping center, this little restaurant embodies a good old fashion diner. Went to Able's for breakfast. The wait was about 25-30 minutes-faster than other places around town. Not too bad, we got on the list at 10, and were seated at 10:45, they stop serving breakfast at 10:30. Luckily we were on the list pre breakfast cut off so they still served us, but until we arrived we didn't know the time limitation. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating. I have nothing negative to say about her. We ordered collectively: western omelet, spinach omelette, the two egg breakfast and a side of pancakes. All of our meals had breakfast potatoes but despite being crispy were lacking flavor, and either the oil wasn't hot or it hasn't been changed in a while because the potatoes were saturated. We also were the end of breakfast service so maybe we just got the end of what they fried and they absorbed all of the oil. Coffee had definitely been on the burner too long, also the cups had floaters in it. They were busy for the Fourth of July weekend absolutely but not so much that they couldn't dump the pot after an hour or so and make a fresh one. All the 4 star reviews I read after we left seem to be from 1-2 years ago. Not sure what it was like in the past, but I wish I could've eaten at Able's back then! read more

This place has the privilege of being not only one the sole mom and pop diner in the area, but is also the best diner food you can get while here. I got the Huevos Rancheros and it was delicious. Refried beans were great. Tortillas were warm and large, eggs had a wonderful ranchero sauce, and they gave extra salsa. But honestly, when you come to this place you have to get the potatoes. Wow, place is too nice to be in a strip mall! As soon as we walked in and felt the warmth and smelled the delicious aroma of coffee and breakfast I knew it was going to be good. We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and there were about 20 people waiting for a table. Some were waiting outside. Many of them looked like expectant regulars not at all worried about the wait, like they know it's worth it. We actually only waited about 5 minutes for our table for 2! The place has three dining areas, it is larger inside than it appears. There were many diners so comfortable and happy inside, more than the usual number of families with three generations sitting together. We ordered the spinach omelette which comes with a side of potatoes and a biscuit (or toast, your choice). I also ordered a single pancake and a side of ham. OMG it was ALL delicious! Abel's Diner is a cute little "hometown" restaurant. Everyone was extremely friendly when we entered an we were sat right away. We came for breakfast on a weekday morning. The breakfast menu had a lot of omelet options as well as breakfast tacos, with a handful of other choices. I ordered the two egg breakfast with diner potatoes and bacon. Everything was good. My daughter's pancakes were a bit darker than usual, but she loaded the syrup on and didn't complain. My son ordered breakfast tacos and said they were comparable to any other breakfast taco in town. You'll find Abel's Diner in the corner of the Tri-Country Crossing strip center that features a new restaurant every couple years following the previous restaurant's demise. It's a pizza place, it's a BBQ joint, surprise - now it's a country diner. It's difficult to see the restaurant from the I-35 frontage road so I'm doubtful they'll attract much new business, but I suspect Abel's will likely be the first long-term survivor in this site due to its loyal customer base that will surely follow them down the street to their new location. Abel's claims most of their menu is homemade, and I believe them, but this doesn't mean their soup is much better than Campbell's or their "famous" yeast rolls taste any different than the dough you can purchase from your grocer's freezer. Any visitor from the East Coast who stops by for a meal because they read "Diner" in the name will be disappointed in the lack of variety on the menu which is primarily burgers, a few sandwiches, some Texas staples such as Chicken Fried Steak, a couple fried seafood items, and some salads. Their breakfast items are pretty good, but in my opinion, it's really hard to screw up bacon and eggs or an omelet. The interior design and wall décor are cute and homey with a country feel. The servers aren't particularly professional, but they're still friendly and helpful. The food isn't imaginative or noteworthy, but it's consistent and the quality is at least as good as you'll find at Denny's. My most recent visit was because they offered a Groupon and I probably won't visit again until they offer another. read more

It's good but it's not the Abels I remember when they were at their other location down the street. when they were at their other location everything was always great, the food was great, the service was great And everything always came out piping hot. on my most recent visit myself and one other person ordered the meatloaf, the Meatloaf was cold or at best barely warm. I almost sent it back I should have. My wife had the chicken fried steak which was a very large portion and very tasty. For the most part everything was good but they really do need to keep an eye on quality control before bites them in the Keister. Why not five stars: quality control A.k.a. cold meatloaf knocked them down a star, If there Increments I would've dropped another half star For having to hear a member of the waitstaff argue with a member of the kitchen staff. Although one could look at that as dinner and a show lol All in all mostly everything was acceptable and I would still recommend dining at this establishment. What a disappointment compared to my last review of a year or so ago. To use a few words overall, it is dingy and tasteless. Poor lighting from a high ceiling, dark gray cement floors dark brown tables and chairs and a dark green divider wall. Food no better. Their meatloaf is filling but tasteless with a splash of brown gravy on top. A perfect round ball of mashed potatos again with a splash of the same brown gravy on top. Their clam chowder was not particularly good in my last review and worse now. It is so thick that you can literally stack it up with one piece of potato on another making a little tower in your bowl. Being so thick with flour what would you expect the taste to be? White flour of course! I will say that the garden salad with blue cheese dressing was excellent. I don't know why the chef Able's future plans are, but he needs to bring back the diner to its earlier days. read more

Well I dead of waiting at Denny's on sat ( which we did for a piece) we came here and waited. The hostess said it would be a 30-40 wait. But we figured for the reviews we would wait! We did miss breakfast but hey... whatever. We parked our big truck bobtail behind another business and walked over. We sat in front waiting and the hostess came to us and asked if we wanted anything to drink while waiting. Yup we said and thank u!! I got a coffee in styrofoam cup and Bf got iced tea. I not longer had gotten the creamer in my cup and they called us! Breakfast rush is almost over now. Last few people that made it in before 11 were still being served breakfast!! Nice. We decided to get a biscuit each to try cause on yelp people said they were to die for... and they were!! Fresh out of the oven brushed with butter on top. They literally melted in your mouth. They were soooo light!! We got a side dinner salad for a buck each and THAT was really good too! Can't wait till food but I could almost stop already...lol. I ordered chicken fried chicken the sat special. Can't wait. Wow took my first bite of chicken... so tender and breading light n crispy omg. I usually don't like whit meat cause it can be over cooked and dry. But NOT this. Couldn't eat all my potatoes or bread but I ate the good stuff!! So full. Bf ordered pepper steak. Ordered take-out for lunch here the other day. I put my online order in at 8am. My lunch is usually around 11 so that's when I set it for pickup. Around 8:05 I received a call telling me that they were out of fries. Which would have been fine except I ordered a BLT with side of cucumber salad. No fries. Which tells me that they didn't really pay attention to my ticket. I arrived at 11 and my food was ready so I drove it back to work. The BLT was cold, the toast was soft, and cucumber salad was room temperature. Visited this establishment this morning, Jan 20th, 2024 7:45am Ordered breakfast plate: chicken fried steak. Came with 2 eggs and fried potatoes with gravy. It was the worst breakfast I have ever had. No flavor whatsoever . So bland. The steak was greasy! The grease literally was dripping off the steak knife. I tried to soak up-the grease from the steak with a couple napkins just so I could eat some. Was just horrible. My eggs were not even totally cooked. The whites/ clear liquid was so runny/ raw and nasty. The waitress was nice enough. The booth I sat in, behind the cushion- filthy! This one employee was standing at the coffee station complaining to another employee how " someone " didn't clean from the day before, how they took stuff apart and put it back together without cleaning the station. And the coffee cup she picked up was dirty and she swished hot water in it and poured the water out of the coffee cup into the water pitcher behind/ next to her and filled up the coffee cup with coffee and took it to a customer. Waitress saved the day at Abel's diner, as well as the diner filled up quickly & was packed. Fast, efficient, & personable. The diner itself was not that clean, booth bench where I sat had a huge ugly patch on the upholstery, and the food was not overly good. Good variety & selection from the menu. Ordered chicken fried steak, potato, okra and tortilla soup with Texas toast. Plate delivered without the toast. The tortilla soup was thin except it was packed with too much Zucchini squash. Did not taste any seasoning in the breaded chicken fried steak. Good price for around $10.00. read more
