Tried Abem for the first time and it was AMAZING! It's hard to know what you're going to get the first time you go somewhere, but everything was exceptional from the service, to the food to the coffee. My friend and I split the Awaze Tibs, and I could not stop exclaiming the whole time, each bite was such an amazing flavor. Then we did the coffee ceremony and it was so neat to see the woman come out and show us her roasting the beans. The flavor was phenomenal and we had plenty of coffee between the two of us. Definitely recommend this place, and I will be back next time I'm in town.

What a wonderful find here in Nashville! Beautiful Ethiopian family run restaurant - great menu and even better service! Their coffee is strong and delicious, the lamb tins are delicious and the baklava is excellent. Don't miss this place if you have an opportunity to stop in - and it's worth going out of your way to try this place.

Went to dinner with a friend here and it was both of our first times trying Ethiopian food. Let me tell you, this was absolutely AMAZING. The food was sooooo good, we also had tons of leftovers after. The service was so good as well, the person serving us was so nice and kind. The restaurant itself is so cute and it's such a vibe to go in and drink tea and just chat. 10/10 will visit again

I'm an out of towner and was so excited to have found an Ethiopian restaurant in the area. The owner welcomes you wholeheartedly with a big smile. I ordered the veggie plate and it really hit the spot after my hike. Everything is homemade and the injera is perfection made with 100% teff. Invite your friends, share some dishes, support this mom and pop. It's well worth it!

Few places check all the boxes but the food, service and ambience at Abem are above average. Staff were so nice and accommodated our 1yo and 2.5yo, helped select non-spicy items for the kids and made us feel reassured that it was no big deal when the 1yo left a mess under his high chair. Also offered to help carry coffee and leftovers to the car with us which was unusually thoughtful. Dining room is clean with nice natural light and plenty of parking. Food is spectacular. We got the samosas, veggie platter and chicken tibs, finished with cappuccinos. Every item was great. Picked up a bag of whole bean Ethiopian coffee to go. Will try the tiramisu next trip! Overall would absolutely recommend this place and feel good supporting such kind business owners.

Locally owned hidden gem. The owner our a wife and husband duo. They are welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. My first time trying Ethiopian food. Didn't know what to expect! I'm glad I stepped out my control zone

Excellent food (samosas, beef tips and the veggie combo) - especially loved the veg dish. Place was fresh and clean and the owners were friendly. Will definitely go back.

I had the pleasure of dining at Abem Ethiopian Coffee on Sunday 7/14/24. The Food was fantastic. The atmosphere was superb. The restaurant was very clean and very well decorated. My guest and I had Kitfo special and the tibs and everything was delicious. We both tried the spiced tea which really didn't require sugar it was that good. We topped off our dining experience with the mango smoothie which was delicious as well. I would recommend all to try this lovely restaurant, it was a great experience with a great staff! Thanks!!

While the food is enjoyable, I must mention that the injera is not fresh and is served cold.

Might be my new favorite restaurant. It's a super authentic, hole in the wall, family owned…read morerestaurant, and you can just tell because when you walk in, the owner and their family is all sitting at one of the tables. I know there's a menu, but when my friend and I walked in, she just asked us if we wanted meat or veggie (probably because we are very white and don't appear like we would know anything about ethiopian food, which is fair). We told her we like both meat and veggie, and she told us she would bring out a plate for us to share. When she brought us our plate, we instantly just smelled absolute deliciousness. The large platter was lined with injera, and then also came with 4 rolls of injera bread on the sides. We were given Tibs, shiro (lentil/chickpea stew), yellow peas, green beans, and some stewed collards. When I tell you EVERYTHING was good, I mean it. Everything was so delicious and flavorful. Dig into the injera bread with your hands and taste all the stews. The injera bread has a perfect fluffy texture with a sour taste, and I genuinely could not tell you which stew was our favorite. I am OBSESSED. It was all so so so good. It is more expensive than I imagined (we EACH paid $27 for the meal plus a waterbottle each), but utterly worth it. The one platter was more than enough for 2 of us, and we still had leftovers.

Delicious, fresh, and flavorful meats, veggies, and injera. All of the dishes were so satisfying. I assume that they're Eritrean (Habesha cousins of Ethiopians) because the names of my favorite dishes seem to be a different language from their Ethiopian counterparts' Amharic. But the flavor was never lost in translation! I ordered Combo # 3 for $18.99. It comes with your choice of 4 vegetables (out of 5 preselected options) and one salad (out of three preselected choices). The side choices are quinoa, injera, or white rice. I confirmed with them that they use teff, meaning the injera is gluten free. They also offer 3 spice levels: regular, spicy, and extra spicy. I love all five vegetable options so it was hard to decide. I ended up choosing the Red Lentils, Yellow Lentils, Tikil Gomen (the cabbage dish), and Collard Greens. Everything was excellent! 10/10! (Everything I ordered was vegan and gluten free.) I ordered spicy because I love spicy food. But let me tell you... I was not prepared for the authentic African spices they hit me with. My bad! I will never underestimate them again. I had to literally sit the injera on my tongue first, then put the food in my mouth in order to finish my meal. LOL Next time I'll be a good little American and order it the normal way. I'll try their fosolia (green beans and carrots) next time. The Shiro also looks good, but it's only available as a full entree. They operate out of a food hall, so it's take out only. I ordered online and my food was ready at the promised time. The customer service was excellent and the lady (whom I'm assuming was the owner) was very nice and helpful. I will definitely order from them again.

But this review is about Ethiopian... for Ethiopian, open the door under the "Open" sign. I don't say "go thru the door," because it's clearly blocked by a table and plexiglass! This Ethiopian restaurant is take-out only! And if you don't see anyone, just want or call out. Someone will come to the (blocking) table. They handed me a laminated menu with only ~4 choices. However, one was a vegan combo, which was just what I wanted. He said it would take 15', so I just waited in my car. When I came back, it was ready to go. $15.99. I paid via Apple Pay with my watch, and Square or whatever emailed my receipt. Easy peasy. The take-out container had nice napkins but no utensils. That's because Ethiopian food is meant to be eaten by hand, with the injera. (Google it.) Thankfully, plenty of injera was included. Food was delish. The middle item was spicy, which I didn't ask for, but I'm not complaining! I should've actually asked for everything that spicy! =) Would totally get again. Might call ahead and order, and ask if they can make everything extra spicy. Mmmm!
