Came here for brunch and was really excited to try it! I got the jamón serrano benedict. Service was good though we were not asked how our meals were and our waters were not refilled until the end. I really love benedicts but this one unfortunately fell flat. The avocado was mostly brown and I felt they could have done a better job using a better avocado. Very disappointing because it really tainted the meal. The jamón serrano was just okay but I don't think it pairs well with the hollandaise sauce. It was a bit bland for my taste. I also think the dish could have been warmer. Perhaps the hollandaise sauce was also a bit lukewarm. I loved the potatoes though! These were very good with the red peppers and the onions. Very crispy which I liked. I think the eggs were poached well but maybe needed a little more time. Some of mine had a tiny bit of runny egg white. Overall, I really wanted to like this place but was pretty disappointed with the avocado and the combo of the sliced Jamon Serrano and hollandaise. read more

The small plates were so enticing we ended up going with six of them and skipping the main plates! Loved everything we got: Octopus - this is always a go to at Spanish spots, and this one did not disappoint. Came with perfectly seasoned potatoes and some fresh microgreens. Croquetas - who doesn't love fried food? Persimmons - served with burrata and some salad mix - delicious! Finding parking in this area is so difficult and if you come with your own car, remember that everywhere around is downhill/uphill so I recommend you to choose easy to walk shoes. As QPR point, I don't think it worth it. I also recommend you bringing your own wine as wine list wasn't appealing ( especially if you are oenophile). It's a nice ambiance and since my favorite Spanish restaurant changed the ownership, there is not much option at the area. I found this place via Yelp and really wanted to try it out. I live about an hour away from the city so my husband and I decided to try it before a concert on Wednesday. It was really hard finding parking but we were lucky to find one close to the restaurant after looking for about 10 minutes. There were only two people in the restaurant at the time we got there (around 5:30pm) and we were seated. I liked the ambiance, it was quiet and a little dark...perfect for a date. There was a couple sitting at the bar and the owner (at least he looked like the owner) was speaking to them. It seemed like everyone that came in knew the owner and he even hugged one of the ladies that came. I thought it was odd that he never said a word to us although he looked at our table a few times. We ordered the following: Croquets: I liked the crispiness of these but I thought they were quite bland. Chicken-Potato soup: This soup was actually REALLY good. I loved the flavors, the chicken (not too many pieces) and the crispy toast on top. Would love a bowl right now. Paella: I was in Spain in June and in comparison to the Paellas I had there, I wasn't satisfied with this one. Seafood was cooked well, the clams had a splash of wine that I didn't care for. Overall I mostly likely won't be going back. It was a far drive for us and then we didn't get the best customer service. Parking was tough and I know my husband didn't enjoy any of his food. I wanted to try this place over Coqueta which I know is a celeb chefs restaurant. I guess we'll try that place next time! read more

Wow what a delightful neighborhood gem. The food was wonderful, flavorful and a real demonstration of California produce meets Spanish food. We got the bacalhau in a rich tomato broth, patatas bravas the bread, a seasonal salad and the ahi tuna. It was all wonderfully seasoned, beautifully presented and just a treat to eat. I had a g+t and it was lovely and flavorful. The dining room is lovely, the service was awesome (shout out to Amanda who was really attentive and a treat to chat with) and it was all around a wonderful night. The $85 per head option includes 5 small plate items (appetizers) and 4 large plate items (mains). We selected this option for 30 persons in the group, while 1 person selected separate 1 small and 1 large plate as he had special dietary considerations. So, when 30 small plates are served for a group of 30, it actually were 6 plates of each small item, which means 5 people are sharing a small plate. Similarly, when 24 large plates are served for a group of 30, it actually were 6 plates of each large item, which again means 5 people are sharing a large plate. Finally, when 18 dessert plates are served of 3 dessert types, it actually were 6 plates of each dessert item, which again means 5 people are sharing a dessert plate. So, I was accurately reflecting in my initial post that "they serve 1 plate for 5 people". Many people have already posted that portion sizes are small per plate, so sharing it for 5 people is not right while framing the items are family style ... we had a similar group dinner setup this week at Tao in Vegas and they served 1 plate of each option for 3 people. I was not expecting a buffet, but reasonable portions for family style. So, by citing large numbers of plates, please do not try to hide the limited portions that were served. If you can't afford to serve more portions for all the 9 options than limit the options so that the corporate group knows upfront how much value they are getting from the fixed price option vs just each person selecting what they want in a 1 person portion size. Instead of acknowledging the limited portions served, the owner responds with lies ... i did not see a single packed box was taken by anyone from the group. If any food remains (as claimed by the owner) after each plate is being shared by 5 people, then it reflects the quality of the food served and not the portion sizes. And he thinks by posting personal details he can intimidate me into deleting my post so that he can scam other corporate groups ... what a classy way of appreciating the $707 tip for his staff. Finally, by citing that only $500 of refreshments were consumed, the owner seems to indicate that our group did not spend enough at his restaurant. The total bill paid (including taxes and tip) was $4243, which comes to $137 per person for the group of 31. If that is not adequate than it only reflects greed of this owner and how he values customers! So, while I would not wish best of luck to the owner, I would wish it to any customers that still try this restaurant after reading my review and the owners response. read more

Was I ever wrong! This place was fantastic!!! I have never had such a tasty salad in my life, I wanted more. from the light dishes to the main course to the desserts. perfectly cooked, amazing taste, the chicken was just out of this world. I was with a large group, so I literally got to sample the entire menu. Just great, I truly have nothing bad to say about this experience. This visit to Abrazo was a long time coming. We've actually lived in the Russian Hill neighborhood since way before Abrazo's opening but somehow, we just never made the journey into this charming, welcoming and delicious establishment. That all changed last night as we made up for lost time and we will be back very soon. From the moment we walked in, we felt we were in the hands of friends as we were offered a stunning table location and guided through one of those incredible menus where you really want to order one of each! Maggie, our server, was so kind and easy going with our decision making through the many menu options...the wine selection was impressive as well. I truly appreciated the kind pacing of our evening--not rushed at all and each of the six dishes we ordered flowed absolutely effortlessly. Do not miss the very tender-grilled octopus along with the croquettes that are simply fried pillows of love with their creamy, crunchy and dreamy texture. Came here on a Saturday night for a birthday celebration for my boyfriend's mom's birthday with a party of 5. My boyfriend's family used to come here before the rebranded, back when they were Zarzuela. They hadn't been here since the reopening, so this was our day. We had a reserved through OpenTable. For starters/apps we got the grilled octopus, tortilla española, grilled persimmon salad, and the ham and cheese board. The tortilla española and the ham and cheese board were okay - not bad, but not memorable and probably wouldn't order again. The app highlights were the grilled octopus, and the grilled persimmon salad. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked - I personally have a hard time with octopus (it's a texture thing) and *hate* when it gets rubbery, but this octopus was so tender - we almost ordered a second. The grilled persimmon salad had a giant ball of burrata. That's all you need to know about that..yes please! For main courses two of us ordered the lamb shank, one ordered the Tortellini, one ordered the pork chop and I ordered the paella. Paella was amazing - crunchy bits of rice below perfectly cooked seafood. Highlight of the Paella seafood was the scallops - the most tender of scallops. I tried my boyfriend's lamb shank and it was tasty as well..pretty rich, so I couldn't eat a full dish, but yummy to sample. Came here with a group for a friend visiting from out of town. Cute lil restaurant at the corner with large glass windows to watch the cable cars go by. Can be good for groups, with extra space in the back. We started off with the winter sangria. For apps, the charred octopus had a decent texture and some nice acid. The Tortilla Española was okay, I would pass. The croquetas were probably my fav and had a little kick. For mains, the roasted chicken was tender, but the flavor was too mild. I personally found the seafood paella too mushy. The pasta was great. Ended with the ricotta churros for dessert. They were basically these delicious donut holes. My husband took me out for date night and surprised me with this place and wow, I feel spoiled! We got three small plates and two entrees and three cocktails and two dessert plates and EVERYTHING was SO GOOD. There was not one dish or cocktail we got that we felt could have been done better. Great drinks and tapas! I went with a large group of 5 and got to try everything on the small plates portion of the menu. The small plates are small, so it's best to split between 2-4 people max so everybody can have a bite. Many of the small plates came in 2 or 4 portions, but Abrazo was very accommodating and would add a piece for our group of 5 (ex. the delicious croquettes). Really a great restaurant. First time there for us, service was great, the gentleman behind the bar was knowledgeable, accommodating and of great spirit, the waitress that took care of us was also really good and she was able to provide any answer we had about the food or wine. We ordered a bit too much food (4 appetizers, bread and 2 entrée) but that is ok since everything was quite delicious, including the paella. While it was really good, one thing we might not re-order is the Bacalao just because we could not find the fish in it but it had a good amount of the other ingredients, most likely we did not understand the menu description properly. We thought it was a chunk of cod with mussels and so on. The dessert was also great, i do not remember the name but they were similar to bigne but really really really great for us. Good job. Intimate and a nice low key date night spot. Definitely didn't feel like we were in sf when we went into the back. We went the past Saturday, we were able to book a reservation easily and were seated immediately. Staff was very friendly but also definitely swamped. Our waitress did a great job checking in and attending to us. The croquets were our favorite of the night, the octopus was also delicious. The paella was OK. Cocktails were about $11-15 and tasted good. The business of the restaurant had us waiting for our apps/dinner for 50min but once it came out, the rest followed quickly and we were paid and out within an hour and 45min. I think Spanish is is pretty underrated. There aren't too many Spanish restaurants in SF compared to Italian so it's always good to get some real, Spanish specialty dishes. We ordered the the croquetas, the tortilla, and the octopus which to me, are very Spanish dishes. Obviously other cuisines do octopus but the Spaniards do it exceptionally well. The octopus was so soft and tender. The croquetas were fried to perfection with cheese and ham inside. The tortilla was soft and delicate, with great texture. We also ordered the paella, lamb, and chicken. The paella is always a must and I'm usually highly critical of it. This one was better than most. Flavorful, light, fluffy rice with properly cooked seafood. Some bits of crispy rice stuck to the pan that you can scrape off for a good textural change. The sauce on the lamb was good and while tender, I still found it a little dry. The chicken was moist and juicy though. The ambiance and decor was really nice. The drinks were properly crafted. While the service was good, the food took a while to come out. Overall, a really good meal. Ambiance is the main attraction. Quaint, cozy, and romantic. It gets busy quick, so I'd recommend reservations. Small plates ordered include: steak tartare, carrots, croquettes and octopus. The octopus was, by far, the most impressive, flavorful, and enjoyable dish. I smiled every time to took a bite. The octopus was tender and the potatoes bits salty and crispy. The croquettes were delish, but a bit on the rich side. Carrots were okay. Presentation was great, but as they say looks can be deceiving, that was the case with this dish. The steak tartare was not enjoyable. Flavor was off and had an awkward after taste. The halibut entree was presented well, a smaller portion (an actual serving size) and the flavors good, but the food was just warm. The pork loin dish was of more abundance and had a bit of spice in the sauce. I'd recommend the pork over the halibut. Nice wine list (by the glass) to choose from.
