It was pretty dry and flavorless. The tuna tostada was...interesting. A little fishy and quite messy to eat, it was basically a huge chip the size of a cutting board with tubs, sauce, veggies on top. But unfortunately it was difficult to share as everything you tried to cut off a portion, the chip would crumble into small bits. The baklava and soft serve were so so good. Ambiance: Good for a date night. There's inside and outside seating, but we chose inside. Even if it's nice outside, dinner time is when the wind tunnels blow through SF and I wouldn't want my food getting cold. It's pretty dimly lit inside with plenty of couch-like booth seating, as well as regular tables. The noise levels were pretty standard. The bathrooms are hidden behind a curtain. Service: This is where I docked a star. The server we had was so unfriendly. He was trying to rush us to make a decision about food and when we asked him about certain items, he didn't really describe the items at all. He just reiterated the menu, as if we're supposed to know what that meant. We asked about the Tagine and had no idea what it was and he just repeated tagine, which, wasn't helpful at all. We had to keep asking for water because they didn't have someone coming by with water, and when we did, it was like we were asking for the moon. It was so much trouble. Food: Trio of Spreads - very flavorful and served with pita bread. There wasn't enough bread for all the dips, but we basically used other dishes we had to dip. I wanted to clear everything and lick the bowls. Spanish Octopus - one single tentacle, charred and perfectly cooked, however for $26, would I order this again? Likely not. Our waiter checked in on us regularly, kept our waters filled and was happy to answer questions. Food also came out quickly, around 15 minutes after ordering which was impressive given how full the restaurant was. We started with the spiced beef dumplings and shrimp skewers for appetizers and both were really good. The epitome of a five star experience. Not only are you transported by the interior design, but the food will portal you to another world. We arrived during happy hour and nearly sampled the entire happy hour menu. Of the outstanding dishes, two stood above the others, the short rib skewer and the original hummus plate. The hummus plate was a taste of absolute mastery and the sauce for the short rib skewer was nothing shy of perfection. If not for the hummus being so good, the pita would simply exist to help you sop up that sauce. On top of the excellent food, the service was extraordinary. Prompt and attentive and exuding kindness; from the head chef to the runners, those that work there are devoted to providing an experience of fine and comfortable dining. I've been to Barcha for dinner about two years ago and my team and I all shared a bunch of tapas. It was a positive experience and everything we ate was delicious. But my visit recently left me a bit disappointed. I tried the Persian Saffron Rice with chicken shawarma and it was delicious! It tasted fresh and the yogurt tahini blended really well with the protein and veggies. But the portion was quite small and for $31 for a rice plate, I was expecting a bit more. There was a small amount of chicken and honestly I was at least expecting more rice. The service was great though, my server was attentive and checked in on us despite the restaurant getting busy during the lunch hour on a Wednesday. We decided to host our Office Holiday Party at Barcha and it was a great experience. From the very beginning, Sarah the event coordinator was very communicative and answered all our questions and helped make the planning super easy. We originally were booked for the front patio, but since it was raining, they moved us inside to the Medina Space, which was a cute semi private area. But since they blocked it off, it felt very private. We ordered 5 different appetizers: roasted Brussels sprouts, beef dumplings, Morrocan cigars, chicken and speck ham croquette, and hummus with Turkish flatbreads. We had the fattoush salad as one of our four courses. For entrees, we ordered 4 to share family style: rack of lamb, seared prime rib steak, vegan kofta lamb, and falafel plate. And for dessert, we had the Meyer Lemon Meringue Tart. Overall, our experience here was amazing. The service was top notch. Everyone was so accommodating to our needs. The food was really good too! The standout for me was the rack of lamb and the vegan lamb kofta. The rack of lamb was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The vegan lamb kofta was a surprise. If you didn't know it was vegan, you wouldn't be able to tell. It had the texture of sausage and flavor was just so good. This place is phenomenal. I came here 2x in one week. The first time was Monday and I came with a friend. We got beets, croquettes, spicy beef dumplings, octopus, and barcha hummus. The croquettes literally surprised me because they were so good. I had no idea what was about to hit me. The honey on top was unique and made it all work so well. The spicy beef dumplings again shocked me because it was so good. It's perfection. Octopus was a little tough especially at the end where it's thinner. The hummus was not special either. It had been years since I've been to Barcha, but I went back relatively recently for a work dinner. This was actually my first time here for dinner since I've only come for lunch before, and I had forgotten how beautiful the decor is inside, especially at night. Barcha definitely draws an after-work crowd (it is in FiDi, after all). It was already busy when we arrived and it just got busier from there. Good thing we had a reservation since we needed several tables put together. We shared several appetizers and desserts and everyone ordered their own drink/main. The dishes we ordered included the trio of spreads, Moroccan cigars, falafel, beets, blistered peppers, Persian tahdig (so good!), and the pistachio tiramisu. The prices feel in line with this area of SF. One downside: someone in our group was vegetarian and the main options for them felt pretty limited. We love sharing so we got a bunch of tapas and small plates to share. For food, we decided to order a bunch of the mezze to share between the 7 of us. We got the Spiced Beef Dumplings (Manti), Moroccan Cigars, Salmon Tartare, Halloumi Cheese, Barcha's Hummus, Crispy Falafel, Blistered Peppers, and Trio of Spreads. All the food was top-notch, but some items definitely stood out. The Spiced Beef Dumplings were my ultimate favorite - I've had Manti before, but the flavor of these was phenomenal. The Moroccan Cigars took second place for me, and we ended up ordering second servings of both items. We also ordered another round of Halloumi Cheese (always so good) and Salmon Tartare (this one wasn't anything special, the serving size was just small). Our server was good about making sure the mezze came out with the proper number of items, since they typically come in sets of four. For dessert, my friend got the the Vanilla Soft-Serve (they brought it out with a candle for her birthday) and some of us shared the Barcha Napoleon. The Napoleon was nothing like I expected. The rice is so buttery and crispy and pairs perfectly with the tender and moist duck. The only sad part is that the portions are fairly small here -- but I guess that's expected for a restaurant nestled in downtown. The service was a bit strange too. He did eventually come back with a cake, which we appreciated. However, when I asked him to record us singing happy birthday. He took the phone, we sang happy birthday, and we I received the phone back. He didn't record at all....especially given that it was a birthday celebration?! I really wish we had gotten his name; he was a younger guy with a beard. Overall, the food and atmosphere were great, but the service left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Really enjoyed Barcha. The only thing is the time was it was a bit busy so food was taking some time to take out. Also the octopus was a small portion for $26. It should've had two pieces to share. The beef dumplings were delicious. Also the shrimp skewer were to die for I also enjoyed my steak with chimichurri and roasted root vegetables. The drinks were also top-notch, including my sangria picture, which was unforgettable should come here if you're looking for a trendy spot in SF and are ready to dish out some serious Dinero. read more

Came here for dinner on a weekend without reservations and got seated outside. It was a nice day out so no complaints. We ordered several hot appetizers to try, one entree to share and a drink each. The bill was quite pricey for two people. Likely won't come back again. read more
