Pictured are the lobster & corn soup and lobster pasta for starters, lamb and filet mignon for mains, and snickerdoodle and strawberry yuzu for dessert. LOVED the lobster coral sorpresine starter 10/10. Both mains were 10/10. The Anderson lamb chop's frenched haricot very were cooked perfectly and the side of Lebanese lamb dumplings added a Mediterranean flare. Filet was a perfect medium rare. Unfortunately the waitress either forgot our added order of deviled eggs or they forgot to make them so we brought it up after we already had our mains brought out to us. The timing made it a little odd for a cold appetizer and they tasted just alright. Overall our waitress wasn't very personable... we were celebrating something so it would've been an overall better experience perhaps if we had a different waiter/waitress. We thought the desserts were alright, preferred the strawberry and yuzu over the snickerdoodle tartlet. Overall we'd still recommend this place. For this price point the food should have been better. I tried almost all the menu and very little made me excited or want more. It was all good... but not interesting or really great. It's an old school upscale restaurant. Beautifully decorated with old architecture and revolving doors. It reminds me of how San Francisco was decades ago. It seems like a place to see and be seen. Most of the patrons dressed up and the staff wore formal attire. They have impeccable service and the wait staff is very experienced. My wife and I had a wonderful time. Very romantic ambience. We started with steak tartare, soft shell crab, and SPOT PRAWNS, LOBSTER MUSHROOM & SWEET CORN SOUP. Our entrees were northern halibut, sea scallops, sweet water pork chop, and Anderson lamb chop. We are a party of 5 and deliberately ordered different starters, mains and dessert for the prix fix menu. I've been here a few times and it's always fun. You step on and it's maximally decorated with mosaic tiles and cool lighting with velvet trim. Food and drinks are always exciting-- balancing new and innovative with traditional. Yesterday we had a thyme and lime (?) cocktail, fabulous and refreshing. We shared beef tartare which is love and that was pretty good-- the waffle fries were fragrant but a little soggy and too oily. I had the seared scallops and they did that very well! So buttery, one sided fry. Sweet. My friend had the pork chop and it was okay. Satisfying but I don't personally like pork chop. Service is excellence per usual! read more

We stayed across the street from this spot and after reading fantastic reviews, I looked forward to stopping in to see the holiday decor and hit the bar for a pre-dinner drink. We did not have dinner reservations here but at another spot so I thought stopping in during the week for a drink could be fun. When walking in, I came up to the host stand to inquire about how the bar worked- first come first serve, or did I need a reservation? The hostess was condescending (yet with a smile), telling me the bar was first come first serve but unless we found a seat, we could not just stand there. I totally understand this concept- its a small, busy bar and we cannot be underfoot the waiters or the drink runners. However there was a large part of people who were standing around drinking and chatting without issue. When I asked if she thought it would be worth waiting a few minutes and perhaps a spot would open up, she said no, don't bother- there won't be a spot anytime soon. I found it really weird that they just openly want you to walk out. I thought I was doing the right thing by asking the staff the "correct" way to do things in their establishment. Regardless, I went up to the bar and found one seat (which turned into 2 open seats one another guest left). Bar staff was friendly but rushed and it took a bit to order drinks. I ordered a dirty martini but got a regular one- wasn't worth it to correct but it was quite tasty. The old fashion was nice as well but nothing special (Hotel one's was better). Once they got a second to breath, bartenders were very personable. I asked them if they knew where they got some of their gorgeous globe decorations and they told me to ask the hostess. When I went back up there as we were leaving, the hostess literally looked me in the face (while holding her laptop) and walked away, seconds after the bartender told me they spoke with her. Not worth me waiting, I left. Cant speak on the food, the bartenders were busy but nice (attention to detail a bit off), and the space is beautiful. Even though I eat out often in well known, nice SF restaurants, I seldom if ever review them because I figure another 5-star review isn't going to make much difference to them. But oh my goodness, I'm making an exception for Boulevard. As background, a dear colleague and friend and I used to treat ourselves at Boulevard regularly. But first Covid hit, then he moved cross-country, and I only went occasionally for special occasions. But then my friend came back for a visit last week, and of course the first thing he wanted to do was go back to Boulevard. Haha, twist my arm! If you want to feel special; and you're craving incredible food; an amazing wine list; superlative service; want to feel spoiled; and of course if you like gorgeous decor and soft, warm lighting, Boulevard is for you. Previously, the last time I had been was in October, when I took some friends for a birthday. If you like caviar, order it because it's the most beautiful presentation you can imagine, served in a huuuuge seashell with the condiments in tiny silver octopus bowls. Seriously mind-blowing in its opulence and deliciousness! But back to last week's dinner: As impressive as Boulevard has always been, last week exceeded all expectations. Everything was perfect -- our favorite table; an amazing waiter (Eddie) who could not have been more attentive, nice, and fun; and of course the most sumptuous food imaginable. Every course, a delight! I love seeing our beloved city on the upswing. And with new restaurants opening every day, it's tempting to try the new-new thing. Boulevard has been a San Francisco staple for decades, and for good reason. The food, service and atmosphere are truly second to none. I've been coming to Boulevard since 1997, and every experience has been exceptional. I especially love the Ken Fulk touches from their remodel a few years back, the space now feels even more warmer, inviting, and effortlessly bustling. The staff is consistently kind and hospitable. While I'm a bit bummed that some of my longtime favorite bartenders have moved on, the new team has been fantastic. I find myself enjoying Boulevard even more in the fall during white truffle season as their truffle pastas are wonderful and during the holidays, when the restaurant feels especially festive. If you're in San Francisco, a visit to Boulevard is a must. It remains a true institution and a reminder of what great dining in this city is all about. read more

The service seemed impeccable. Now for the bar, my partner and I had missed our ferry so we found this seemingly intimidating restaurant but with a desperate desire to grab a drink, we decided to check it out and were pleasantly surprised by the ambient bar seating area! As for cocktails I ordered the Thyme cocktail (forgot the name) and it was good, but nothing worth noting imo. I will say, though, my partner really enjoyed his old fashion here so that was definitely a highlight. I think next time I'd probably order wine as it seemed more fitting of the scenery. Eating at Boulevard was one of the best food experiences of my life. Every course landed--I ate well past being full because it felt wrong to leave anything on the table. Each dish had its own identity. Nothing disappointed, and nothing was merely "good." They pitched a perfect game. I've had other fine-dining meals that were solid, but when you're paying an arm and a leg for a three- or five-course menu, you want every plate to hit--and this one did. The only real downside is the price. It's fine dining, so I wasn't shocked by the total--I knew what I was signing up for. Still, it's hard not to feel a little sad that experiences like this are largely reserved for an upper-class slice of life, with the occasional middle or lower-middle class person showing up for something like an anniversary. Boulevard had been on my radar for a while, so I was excited to finally try it out. All in all, I'd say it's a gorgeous restaurant with diverse and yummy bites that's great for a fancier dinner! Emphasis on fancier, do be ready to spend a bit more :) I and a couple of coworkers ordered a ton of dishes. I did not get any photos because we dove straight in, but let me drop the highlights: AHI TARTARE ($26): one of my coworkers said this was the best thing she's had. While I wouldn't go that far, it was certainly delicious. The sourdough scallion focaccia was gorgeous and the fish was well-seasoned. Now, I definitely wish it was a larger portion for the price. That is a consistent point of feedback across dishes. Basically, you just have to accept that it's just that type of place. KUNG PAO BAO ($10): really yummy bao, would definitely recommend this! I loved the bao's slightly misshapen form. It gave the dish a homey charm. The filling was generous and delicious, and the bun was fluffy. And I think the portion size was actually commensurate with the price here! POPCORN SPOT PRAWN PANCAKE ($26): the squash blossom in the pancake surprised me, but overall, this was an interesting and yummy combo. CAULIFLOWER SOUFFLE ($14): weird, small, but fun. I think if you're curious to try a savory, eggy, somewhat cheesy, somewhat cauliflower-y, really mini souffle, then get it. Not for everyone, but I thought it was funky and fun. FRIED GREEN TOMATO, ESCARGOTS & CHORIZO ($18): another interesting choice! It's hard to put it into words, like you've got these meaty, savory escargots, and this fresh-fried, hollowed-out green tomato, and then these sauces, and this tiny, peeled, green tomato... It was good, but, again, not for everyone. If that interests you, get it! HIRAMASA CRUDO ($23): way too small for the price. It was pretty and it was pretty good, but at $23, I would spend the extra $3 to get the Ahi Tartare and just have a more dynamic experience with better value. BERKSHIRE PORK CHOP ($58): this is their specialty, and it was really yummy. But I do have to say, the price is really running away from the portion size on this one. Like, dang. Don't get me wrong, it was good. Pork chop cooked really well. Potatoes gorgeous. Cauliflower and romanesco were really nice too. Just know that you're not getting a whole chop at a whole chop price. PISTACHIO CRUMBLE CAKE & DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE: had to try these lovely sounding desserts and they did not disappoint. Perfect size for a little sweet treat to end the meal, lovely combos, and nice textures. Overall, Boulevard is what you'd expect from a fancy restaurant in terms of value, but they are definitely doing it up in terms of interesting combos. Service is kind and efficient. They add some extra zhuzh with the ambiance: beautiful and elegant interior, and if you sit at the bar, you can see the cooks hard at work at their craft. For me, the ambiance is the star of the show at this restaurant. There are so many beautiful textures, materials and colors with the peacocks, stained glass, lighting touches and a brick ceiling!! There is an insane amount of character with the revolving door enclosed in this absolutely beautiful wood frame with a velvet curtain to surround. The floor is tiled and carpeted with a massive statue in the middle of the restaurant. It was truly a place I loved to look at and watch. The service was also dressed very nicely with management in three piece suits and servers in crisp collared shirts and hosts in jackets with makeup done. It was just lovely for my eyes. The food itself was of course, not bad. I think we just weren't blown away given the history, reputation, etc.. Got the pork chop and seafood one with the mousse. Both were well prepared and were as advertised, we just didnt want to lick our plates like we have at some other restaurants. Overall, 3-3.5. Very disappointed after having read many good reviews. Ambiance: the best thing about this place. The servers were kind, attentive, and quickly brought dishes. They also served a variety of homemade sourdoughs that you were able to select and they brought refills quickly. Drinks: pretty good, nothing mind blowing for a 18-20$ cocktail. Food: needs work. The menu is prefixed ($115) and I got the lobster starter, halibut main, and cannoli dessert. The lobster starter was fine, typical tasting. The halibut was disappointing as the halibut was tough and overcooked, while the Yukon potatoes were completely undercooked. I switched with a friend halfway through to trial her scallops, and they were veery underdone. I like my scallops a little rare, but these were slimy. The cannoli was stuffed with marscapone - my personal preference is ricotta. For how many great reviews and ratings this place had (and it was really packed!) I can say that I am very disappointed and would not recommend this place for a $200 meal. You can definitely find a much better place for that amount. read more

Appetizers - The pasta with truffle - nothing to write home about, and the flavor was quite bland- I equated it to fancy adult macaroni and cheese with the only worthwhile quality being shaved truffles - I am so sorry, Nancy Oakes! Mains - I got the seabass. It was overcooked and rubbery :( The beans (very undercooked) and red sauce were also not a good pair/flavor profile to complement the sea bass. I also tried the pork chop my friend ordered (it was dry/lacked flavor, and my husband shockingly makes a more flavorful/juicy chop than this), and the lamb my friend was ok too (dry/lacked flavor as well). Dessert - the creme brulee cheesecake was average (what I ordered). The only cool thing about it was the concept that it was a creme brulee cheesecake. The upside down apple cake was too sweet and the cake portion of it reminded me of a Safeway cake. The pumpkin tres leches was a nice presentation, but, it was dry - the texture was more akin to cake, not a true, moist, tres leches texture. The mint chocolate chip ice cream with the chocolate cake was outstanding, but you are not paying $150 to only love the mint chip ice cream at a restaurant... Overall, impressed by the vibes, beauty and the exceptional service, however, very disappointed in the food. 4+ or higher. I've been to this landmark several times and it's consistently delicious. I had the scallops, pork chop, and cheesecake. Everything was perfect and delicious. The execution and flavors were spot on. The scallops were nicely seared, tender, and the perfect temperature. The pork chop was moist and flavorful. I wonder if they brine it because it was so juicy. It also had the perfect amount of fat. The dessert was so nice. The cheesecake was light and very nicely paired with the cake and topped with the brûlée. Even the amount of berries and cream was perfect. Amazing attention to detail. Everything was so good, which is how I remember the other visits. This is a complete winner. read more
