Crispy and has that bite that lots of other places don't know how to do or get down. It's very dim in there and while the space runs deep in the back, I do feel it is a bit tight. Went here with a friend and the vibe is very "hipster" and chill late night vibes. Dim lighting, great music, friendly staff. I've been meaning to check this place out, but haven't had a chance to until my friend's birthday. We came around 9:00 PM as a party of 6, so it wasn't too lively yet and we were seated immediately. I tried the asparagus toast and my other friends had the ABV burger and crab meat tacos. I didn't expect the asparagus toast to be good, but it surprisingly came together really well. Everything paired nicely from the crunch of the toast to the freshness of the asparagus and a nice salty aspect from the prosciutto. The drinks were also decent, as I had the atomic bomb and the seven fingers, both of which I would get again, if I wasn't so keen on trying new things. The best Japanese fried chicken sandwich EVER. Perfectly crispy and flavorful. Also the cocktails were incredible. I enjoyed a Japanese Old-Fashioned. 4.5 stars I recently discovered this bar after my friend moved around Mission and it's now become our regular spot for girls night catch ups. They have a lot of bar seating but we prefer sitting in the back area where there's shared high top tables. The cocktail menu is extensive including agave based drinks, whiskey, gin etc. Drinks are within $15 range. Must try cocktails - Mumbai Mule and Tarragon Fix. The Mumbai Mule is my go-to here, the lemon & ginger give it a nice kick, it's minty and refreshing! You won't need more than 2 of them ;) Do not miss out on the bar snacks here. Fellow grilled cheese lovers - do get the Mushroom melt. The sandwich is crispy, cheesy, with well seasoned mushrooms and truly melts in your mouth! I went recently to try their burger which multiple people told me was one of the best they've ever had...this seriously piqued my interest because I'm a simple gal and an in n out to me is superior. with that being said, maybe my tastes aren't "refined" enough however I got the most bland and mushy burger I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing. It didn't even last 2 minutes it just fell apart into a soppy mess. I don't remember a whole lot about the experience except we got there before they closed after a long day of travel and we were so happy with the food, the drinks, and the bartender. Came here for a solo dinner date as I just wanted to get out of the house. I'm so glad I did! The bartenders here are amazing! Collin was the absolute sweetest (I didn't get the name of the other bartender I talked to). The grilled mushrooms were absolutely divine! The octopus was really good too but the fries were too oily so I couldn't really eat them. The drinks were really good too! I've been here a couple of times (for drinks mostly) and had a great experience. Amazing cocktails. I've had the tarragon fix, a gin and celery drink, Mumbai mule, gin fizz and few others I can't recall. They were all potent and yummy. The fried cauliflower and the mushroom melt are delicious accompaniments to the cocktails. Service was decent. A couple of forgotten drinks but good otherwise. This is the late night go-to spot. First of all, they serve food late! We were ordering small plates as of 11:30pm. Secondly, service is phenomenal. Everyone was very happy and attentive, and our waiter even gave us an order of broccolini that had been a kitchen mistake! (Thanks, my dude!) The broccolini came in some sort of salsa that was tart and tasty, a bit slathered in oil but every drop of it was delicious. I never write reviews but this was truly the worse service I've ever experienced. I came here on a Friday night in a group of 5. It started off on a bad note when we were told to wait for a table, and then asked if we could sit at the empty table outside. The security outside said yes, and they pulled a stool out for the 5th person in our party. Our server seemed annoyed and was rude right off the bat when one friend tried to order an espresso martini which they didn't have, and grapefruit juice which they didn't have. No suggestions about an alternative, the server was just annoyed and pointed to the menu. It got much worse after that. Another friend was in the area and stopped by, and since we were eating outside he just stood near our table. This was the only non-white person in the group at this point, and security comes over aggressively saying he needs to check his ID, which would be fine, but no one else's IDs were checked when we came in and he approached us with hostility. He happily provides his ID. Then a minute later a different server comes out and says that our friend (the new 6th person) is blocking the sidewalk, but that she could get him a stool to sit on the other side of the table. There's also a completely empty table inside a patio covering that we could have moved to and been off the sidewalk but they didn't offer it, and we didn't want to make a fuss. A few more minutes pass and no stool, so our friend squats on the other side of the table to get out of the way. He took a sip of someone else's drink while we were waiting. Our original server comes out and yells at him saying, "You can't sit there or have glass on the sidewalk! I see what you're trying to do! Be an adult!" Though they weren't friendly with anyone they were clearly much more hostile to the only non white person there, who was nothing but pleasant to them and tried to appease them. After that we just hurriedly finished our food and drinks, paid and still tipped well, and left. This all happened within less than an hour. It was so incredibly inappropriate, disrespectful, and racist. We'd done nothing wrong except have a chatty dinner and annoy them with questions about the menu. Everyone who came to our table seemed to be absolutely miserable working there and refused to have a pleasant interaction. The food and drinks were good, but I won't be going back. read more

I really enjoyed their terragon absinthe cocktail - I wasn't expecting it to be refreshing but it nailed my flavor profile - with a hint of anise and fruity flavors (and a bit too strong on alcohol content which you can hardly tell). I'm sad we wouldn't just order fries we have to order the octopus in order to get fries. The edamame tasted weird, fermented edamame is not my thing, I ate half though so it's not intolerable. We spent over $100 on food and drinks at this place on Saturday, 4/1. We took our chicken sandwiches to go and started eating them outside at one of their open tables. Almost immediately one of their wannabe bouncers with a backwards baseball cap decides to go on a power trip, walk over to us and ask if we were "okay," because we were "acting weird." We were literally just standing outside around a table on a Saturday night having fun with our friends. Then he tries to tell us there's a "law" that we couldn't vape there. There's no law that says we can't vape outside, more than 15 feet from a store entrance. When I asked why he said we were "weird," he said we weren't eating with plates and napkins and some of us were standing where delivery drivers walk. Yeah dude, we ordered to go from your bar and you have zero signs posted about where people can and can't stand. This guy then proceeds to smirk and chuckle at me like he thinks this whole thing is a big joke. His only apology was "sorry you got upset." Absolutely zero respect for customers, making up rules, insulting people, etc. Honestly he should just go apply to be a cop since that's clearly what he wants to do. He ended by saying "you don't need to come back if you didn't like what I said." ABV is one of my favorite bars in the Mission. It is a fun bar with great vibes, hip music, amazing bartenders and OMG delicious food. Every time I come here, I've had the best time. Although I didn't have any food this time around, the food here is really delicious. We had dinner plans elsewhere so we opted to wait for dinner. But my friend and I ordered drinks! We got the Low Altitude Highball (single malt scotch, genepy, soda) and the Drifter (japanese whisky, vermouth, amaro, bitters). we stuck with the same drinks since we liked it so much. They were both really good! Good enough to get our night started. The bartender was so friendly and excited to share recommendations, it made our decision making process easier. After some bar hopping on a Friday night, my friends and I decided to check this out. It was quite busy so we ordered some drinks while waiting for a table, and then ordered some food afterward when we got seated. I liked their design of this place, especially the menu. I think that the menu is, to an extent, sorted in decreasing proof (% alcohol content), with the exception of the highballs as a mixed drink listed at the very beginning. They sort the drinks quite well, putting one piece of paper for whiskey, gin, agave, etc to make it easier to look at what to get. I tried the Smoked Plum which is a whiskey and it's quite strong. It does have a strong smoked flavor. I also sampled some of the fruitier drinks my friends got and they were pretty solid. While presentation is not apparent, the quality of the drinks themselves are solid. For $15, it's about fair pricing for cocktails in the area. We got a side of chips which is just potato chips stacked in a small plate. We also got the meat and cheese 3 choices in which the portions are quite small, but it is a bar so it's understandable. It's good they still included some fixings, albeit a little non-standard, such as salted butter, and rye bread instead of crackers, but it's nonetheless pretty good. The ABV burger here is easily the best burger I've ever had even though I was served very late night about an hour or so from closing. The beef and sauces combined with avocado are so juicy and savory, and the burgers are served really hot! The garlic fries are perfectly crispy and salty too. The chicken burger is also very good, but falls a bit short compared to the ABV burger because a few spots in the fried chicken were tough and chewy (but the breading is great).
