The AC Hotel Chicago Downtown is the perfect location to access the Mag Mile. It is around the block from the Starbucks Roasterie Reserve and a short walk to the river. The staff was very welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The onsite parking was very convenient with easy access directly into the hotel. I did not use the lounge during my visit, but it is very large with plenty of seating to meet friends or colleagues, get some work done, or just enjoy the street view. The room was very spacious with plenty of furniture to accommodate most any needs. My only complaint is the street noise at night. My room faced south on the 8th floor, and it was still fairly loud with music playing on a spring Friday night till 1:30 AM. The next two nights were decent. It was either not nearly as noisy, or I got used to it. I highly recommend this location for a more boutique hotel experience. read more

Stayed here for ALA Annual Conference (June 25-30). Mixed bag, but the staff saved it. Room issues: Pillows sank flat almost immediately, and the mattress left my back aching by morning. Windows didn't do much to block outside noise either -- you could hear all the traffic from the street, which made for some restless nights. The bar situation: They've got the bartender doing double duty as cook, so if you order food, be ready to wait on drinks while they're back there cooking. Not ideal when the bar's busy. But the staff. Genuinely some of the friendliest people I've dealt with at a hotel. Jesus was great. And Rosemary at the bar -- she treated me like royalty. I actually felt bad ordering food because she'd have to run back and forth to the kitchen while still handling everyone else at the bar, and she never once made me feel like a burden. That kind of hustle and attitude doesn't happen everywhere. If they fixed the mattress/pillow situation and brought in even a part-time cook (a high schooler learning the ropes would do fine) to free up the bartender, this would be a great stay. I stayed here on a recent work trip, and was pretty apprehensive based on our last visit. It was definitely a better experience! My room was clean, there were no smells, no loud assholes and the staff was great. Definitely better during the week. Breakfast - mmmmm not great ($17). I arrived around 11:45am on Christmas Eve for an 8 day stay with my son and my sister. It was our first time visiting Chicago. Check in was smooth & they had a room ready so we were able check in early and go to room, which was on the 7th floor. We had 2 beds & a sofa couch. There are limited overhead lights Room/bathroom was nice & clean. They have free water in the mini fridge that they refilled regularly. There is no microwave in the room but there is one on the 4th floor. I didn't like the bathroom door. There are cracks on both sides so that you could see inside. Additionally, the glass door itself is frosted where you can see inside clearly, but you can see shadows and enough. This really takes away privacy, especially when traveling with children. Additionally, the door doesn't lock. The TV was slow at times & changed brightness all by itself. I found this odd and I didn't see brightness settings. The heated 3ft pool & fitness on the 5th floor. As soon as you enter the area on the 5th floor, you can smell the chlorine. The fitness center & just before the pool area. Parking garage is on floors 3/4. The AC lounge & kitchen is on 4. They have happy hour in AC lounge from 4-6pm daily. I went to the bar several days during my stay, both during happy hour and outside of happy hours. I got a blueberry passion fruit margarita. The bartender (Andrew) used freshly squeezed lime juice which was nice. One evening, I got the bbq wings, and I loved them! For the most part, I got the same drink each time. On NYE, there was a special for 25% off wine bottles and $5 well shots. I got a shot of vodka, which was Amsterdam. Andrew was great and I have no complaints. He was friendly, attentive, and very personable. I watched him constantly clean materials used, including the counters, and the menus. Andrew is the bar manager and he ran the bar solo as best as he could and with haste. We got breakfast on Christmas Day at AC Kitchen. Desiree was one of the breakfast host and she was AMAZING; So friendly & festive. We only got breakfast one day. It is $19 after tax, per person. Breakfast is buffet style with many options, at least the day I went. Another guest said the options were good and very carby the day prior. The elevators were wonky! They would start to close and then open itself and then sound an alarm while closing again. It was odd. Unfortunately, on day 2 of my stay (Christmas Day) at 6:30pm, I was stuck in the elevator for 15 min with another guest. We hit the help button but they couldn't hear us over the alarm. I called the front desk who send someone. Front desk lady called me back and told us that we will be compensated for the experience. I couldn't remember if they said I would be getting a call or that I should stop by the front desk. The next morning (12/26) around 10:30am, I stopped by the front desk to inquire and the guy at the first desk was very nonchalant about it. He basically said he's sorry and that the issue was fixed and shouldn't happen again... lol, what? He legit was shrugging his shoulders and asking what I wanted him to do about it... that's poor customer service and displays insensitivity and lack of genuineness on a serious matter. Hotel guest should not get stuck for 15 minutes in an elevator. I know that nothing is perfect and things happened. When they do, I expect more concern and actions to remedy the situation, as a paying guest. As a mental health therapist, that event can be traumatizing or retraumatizing due to a persons history. This staff's lack of tactfulness was very alarming and potentially harmful to a person's emotional safety. This staff's lack member wasn't wearing a name badge, unfortunately. Should all staff be? I seen this particular staff several more times and he was never wearing a badge. For me, I was concerned as this has happened before, according to other staff I've talked to. One of them reported they got stuck too! Fortunately, there was no more elevator incidents but I was a little worried, especially when I got in that particular elevator. I let the manager know of my concerns with the staff via email, but I got NO RESPONSE, SMH! For 3/4 of my stay, I received daily housekeeping service, which was great. However, the last 3 days I did not as before. My trash had built up and they didn't fix the bed. For 2 days, we didn't get face wash cloths. When I did ask about it one day, i was told they were out... On NYE, I called the front desk to ask about the housekeeping that wasn't happened. Someone did come and do what was needed. I checked out on 1/1/25. Our flight wasn't until almost 6pm. I went to front desk to ask for a late check out that was granted for 1pm. When I woke up on 1/1, I could hear my neighbors so clearly. I couldn't go back to sleep. I could hear them talk, bang, walk, etc. I think many people checked in on NYE as my floor was more packed than it had been. I'm not sure if I would return read more

I typically have no problems with any of the AC hotels I've stayed in and I've stayed in PLENTY! It's usually my go to for a hotel but I must say this location was not really up to my standards. Maybe because it's in the heart of the downtown area but the hallway going to your hotel room seemed rather dated as well as the doors. I went to use the restroom in the lobby and it was a mess-the trash can was overflowing and the toilet looked as if it had not been cleaned. As for our room, we were in 6214 and although I love big spacious room, the darn bathroom was way too small. I was so surprised because I never had a bathroom like the one I had here-there was no counter space at all and the toilet was right next to the shower so it was hard for 2 people to really be in the bathroom comfortably. The sink I also felt like in the corners wasn't clean really, I just tried not to even look at it. The bathrooms I am used to at various AC hotels I stayed at have been very spacious so I was so surprised to see such a big room but a small bathroom-I thought maybe they put us in a wheelchair accessible room but they did not, it was a regular room (king bed) just a small bathroom. I went to the gym and it served its purpose. I was able to get a workout in and sweat on. Overall, it was ok for the 2 nights we stayed in the room but my goodness that would work for 1 person but not 2 people that are not spouses. The room was big, again I just wish they took some of the space and spread it over to the bathroom. The hotel was prefect for walking and shopping (even had a Trader Joe's) so all in all I would stay here again but I am very particular when it comes to space in a bathroom so if given the opportunity again I would definitely ask for a different room if I had to be in this space again with my husband. read more

It's walking distance to a bunch of local businesses and the parking garage connects to the hotel which makes it easy to come in and out if you're heading out further for meetings or adventures. The room was clean when we arrived and the air conditioner worked well, which is always a plus for me. The mini-fridge was a good size as well. The hotel was also really quick when we requested extra pillows and blankets and the staff in the lobby were always nice as well. I would definitely stay here again. read more

This hotel has some strong points and some weak points. Pluses: + The location is fantastic. A few blocks away from the Navy pier, directly over top a Trader Joe's, and a relatively easy walk to metro subway lines. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. A safe friendly neighborhood for tourists or people on business. + There's a heated indoor pool. It's not a super warm indoor pool, but it's a good temperature after leaving the gym. + A very nice workout room. Plenty of equipment, and most of it seems to be working well. + Friendly and helpful desk staff. More than happy to split up my 6-night stay on to two different credit cards. + Free bottled water replaced daily during housekeeping. + Housekeeping every night of the week. And you don't have to request housekeeping, it's just part of the deal. Major minuses: + Not a good extended stay hotel. No on-site laundry facilities, but they're willing to charge you $10 to clean a pair of socks. + Although I did not park a car, parking is full-blown extortion prices. I overheard another guest who had to leave their car in the garage for an extra hour or so on checkout day, and the front desk informed them they would be charged by the hour. + At least half of the guest rooms face inward to a empty courtyard, for want of a better word. I was here for six nights. This would have been a good hotel for two nights. I repeat it is not a good extended stay hotel. read more

This is the perfect location if you plan on being a downtown Chicago tourist. The hotel is located just a block off of the heart of Michigan Avenue. You are steps away from the huge Starbucks Reserve Roastery (four floors of cool coffee experimentation, cocktail bar, food, etc), all of the shopping (Zara, Loft, Nike, etc.) and lots of restaurants (Gordon Ramsay's Burger spot, Grand Lux Cafe - owned by The Cheesecake Factory, etc). We did find a few AMAZING, locally-owned restaurants within walking distance too. Our favorites were Etta (Italian food) and True Food Kitchen (healthy, fresh food). Okay, now back to the hotel. We also chose this spot because they had an attached parking garage for a little less than $50 a day and we got a discount on booking.com. Even with paying for parking, it was cheaper than the Airbnbs with parking spots that we were looking at. The parking garage entrance is located about ten feet to the right of the hotel's main entrance. You can just pull in the garage (even before you check in), take the ramp up to the hotel floor, and park. The garage was renovated and felt nice and secure. We then took our luggage through the top floor entrance via the parking garage and took the elevator down to the lobby so we could check in. The hotel staff were very impressive and told us that we would save about $5 a day on parking if we paid it at the front desk at the end of our stay, rather than pay the parking garage machine. Our room was comfy and clean, with everything we needed. The TV was big and the sheets were nice (although almost so tight on the mattress that they were almost coming off in the corners and we had to use all our might to get the sheet from slipping off). There was a bachelorette party going on a few rooms down, but we didn't hear any noise. We enjoyed not having to use our car on this trip and walked or Uber'ed everywhere. I knocked off a star only because at night time, this touristy area isn't the *most* desirable area, so again, I'd stay in this location if you are looking to do the touristy things, mostly during the day. This was the most disappointing Marriott I have ever seen. We were only there one night. Otherwise I would have moved somewhere else. The place is very dark and dingy. Everything is dark brown and beige. The halls are very scuffed up and dark. We had a suite and both rooms only had one piece of art on a wall. The bathroom was tiny. The facility is very tired. Also very loud at night. I was woken up at 1:00AM to loud guests and couldn't really tell where it was coming from. It didn't stop for about an hour. I didn't complain and wondered if others were. It felt like an upgraded transient hotel. Would not go back there. Positives were the staff was very nice and the location is great! The bed was so uncomfortable that it has taken me a week to recover. Additionally something was inhabiting the room.yep critters that left me with multiple bites on my legs...very bad. Although we stayed for two nights, we had an amazing time in Chicago and thats mostly due to this hotel. We arrived early for check in and since our room wasn't ready they allowed us to leave our bags and explore around the area. It is centrally located so it wasn't hard to keep ourselves busy while we waited for our room. Right next to it there's a Trader Joe's, just in case you're staying longer than two nights and want to keep some snacks stored in your room. One block away you have the Starbucks Reserve Roastery , which has FIVE floors. 360 Chicago is only a 10 min walk north and Millennium Park is more or less a 15 min walk south. What more can you ask for? On top of that, the room was very clean, I slept like a baby at night and the service was pleasant. They even upgraded our room to a higher floor with a balcony. I am a long time Marriott 'user', been Platinum for many years and at least Gold Elite in many other years, and have stayed in dozens of Marriott hotels everywhere. I think this AC hotel is very good. Great location for tourists, a walking distance to the Riverwalk, Millenium Park (Home of "The Bean"), Navy Pier, many many restaurants and shops, and is a short block away from Michigan Avenue, right next to the Starbucks Premium Reserve coffee shop. The rooms are ok size, and look nice and clean. The shower works great and the elevators are fast enough. We had breakfast once and it was good, the service at the breakfast lounge was very very good. The service at the front desk is good too, but they did miss cleaning up our room one day and the front desk didn't do a good job fixing it. The lobby is very small, there isn't a lot of place to hang out in the lobby. The gym and pool are ok too, but there is no hot tab which could be a nice addition. Overall, I would recommend this hotel. read more

I truly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic, you are walking distance from several major attractions and in a good, safe area. There are multiple restaurants and stores close by as well. My room was exceptionally clean and had several complimentary items (water bottles, make up wipes, even a shoe sponge!). The service was great as well, we arrived early and although we couldn't check in yet they allowed us to leave our bags so we could enjoy our time in the city. We stayed in this hotel for 4 days and our experience were excellent. The hotel staff were very friendly and met all of our requests. The location of this hotel is very convenient and there is a Trader Joe in the just by its entrance. Restaurants like Giodano, Potillo and Shake Shack is just a short walking distance. The price is very reasonable for its location and condition is very clean. Room is big enough for 4 of us. If you want a place that will ensure you get well rested, avoid this AC by Marriott like the plague. Basically each night the rooms adjoining ours were full of after partying lasting well into the early morning (5 am the first night). The second night, about 1 am, decided to see if the front desk would do anything about it. They said security would get sent up, but to no avail. Partying went on well into the early morning hours. Now, if you want a hotel that will let you go wild with an after party with no thought for the guests who came to actually utilize the hotel for its intended purposes, you're in luck! Consider this party central, and your HQ for getting as loud and raucous as you like. Will definitely be blacklisting this hotel for any future visits and suggest you look elsewhere if you want to stay in downtown Chicago and actually get some sleep while you're here. read more

Great stay at the AC hotel! This is a category 4 Marriott hotel, which means you can use the free night certificate that comes with the Marriott credit card. Can't argue with free, much better than expected! Clean and comfortable. There is a nice outdoor lounge outside the indoor pool, and a decent gym. The best part of this hotel is the location: right next to a Trader Joe's and near awesome restaurants. They also gave me some $10 vouchers for being a Marriott Platinum member, which can be applied toward the $15 breakfast. To be honest, the breakfast didn't look very good to me, plus I had purchased fruit and other food at Trader Joe's, so I used the vouchers for drinks at the bar and snacks at the convenience shop. They need to refill the coffee and hot water at the lounge more often, as it was empty when I went there. read more

Par exemple je cherchais à comprendre le système de bus et où acheter un billet et personne n'a pu me répondre, ni n'a essayé de trouver. Vu la taille de l'hôtel et le prix des chambres, on s'attend à un minimum d'interaction avec l'accueil. La Covid a bon dos quand même. Par ailleurs sur les 4 nuits je n'ai eu aucun service de chambre mais par contre le prix a clairement pas baissé. Donc évidemment ma chambre avait des poubelles pleines et personne ne voulait les vider. La chambre quant à elle n'avait pas été trop maintenue. Relativement propre, il y avait cependant des grosses taches qui ne partent pas sur des équipements tels que la baignoire ou lunette de toilette, qui font un peu limite quand même pour le standing du lieu. Beautiful hotel very well located in the Chicago shopping area. They have their own parking lot (quite expensive though) which is conveniently in the 3rd and 4th floor. They have a nice pool and gym for you to relax and unwind. Also the AC lounge is very warming and welcome for you to unwind as well...and breakfast in the morning is part of the experience....but you have to pay for it. Employees very welcoming and again, very refreshed and modern decor which makes you wonder if you want to leave for shopping or stay and enjoy! Definitely coming back! read more

We used a Travel Zoo deal and that made our 2nd stay here very affordable. There are street noises and the beds aren't the most comfy but I definitely think the pros outweigh the cons for staying here. Stan's & Rosebud on Rush were a few blocks away as well as Niketown & the huge Starbucks. We enjoyed shopping @ Eataly to bring great food back home with us after checking out (you don't have to be out of the parking garage till 3pm). Stay here so you have more money to spend on fun stuff, it's all around! read more

I visited this hotel as I was in town for the Dodger game. Our flight came in late so we arrived to the hotel around 3:00 am. We came in exhausted and although our room was held the lady at the front counter was the most unfriendly hotel staff member I'd ever seen. She had no greeting for us on arriving just can I see your ID. She checked us in at the front desk and quickly left us and went through a door out of our site. The security guard didn't even say hello and he walked behind us to the elevator and rode it up with us. Is every hotel like this in Chicago? There were stains on our bed and a toe nail on the floor. I looked out on the balcony and it was dirty. I was disappointed. The good experience was the fourth floor lounge. The waiters were super friendly and it was clean and inviting. There was good service and the manager seemed very kind as he came to check on us. I was impressed by the friendly service. This keeps me from not giving a star at all. read more

Solid no frills hotel. My husband and I were stuck an extra night in Chicago due to the ATL airport power outage. We were across the street having dinner at the Grand Lux and found a GREAT geo rate on hotels tonight for this place ( I'm talking like motel 6 rates) so we booked it! Check in was easy. The room was modern, functional, and had everything we needed. It's not luxurious or plush (we came from the Marriott Blackstone in the loop--great place also) but we were tired and got a good nights sleep. The shower was large and had two shower heads with great water pressure. Bed was firm but comfortable, and the mini fridge even comes with two complimentary bottles of water. Wifi was also included (I think checking emails--not downloading large files); I didn't take advantage of that though. This place is just a block off of the Magnificent Mile, and is walking distance or a short Uber ride to most other activities in the city. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would not hesitate to stay here again next time I am in the Windy City! read more

Three of us stayed here before going to a New Years Eve party at Navy Pier. The hotel appears to have been updated within the last few years, so everything was in great condition. I loved that the room had wood flooring instead of carpet like most hotels have. We stayed in a room with 2 double beds and a pull out couch. The room was spacious and clean. There is a lounge on the 4th floor where you can hang out at. I did not get a moment to check out the pool, but there is one inside this hotel. Honestly, I feel like this hotel is a great value for the location. There are so many different restaurants, stores, and attractions nearby. Navy Pier was about a 20 minute walk from the hotel. There are several closer hotels to Navy Pier than this one, but 20 minutes still isn't horrible. There are so many walkable attractions near this hotel to check out. 2 negatives: 1. The walls in the room are a little bit thin. Our neighbors weren't obnoxiously loud, but I could still hear them talking. This isn't an issue I've had at too many other hotels. 2. The design of the bathroom door is a bit weird. It doesn't fully close. There is always a slight gap between the door and the wall when the door is closed. read more

Where do I start!!! Well, they do not practice Covid 19 procedures. Some of the hotel staff wear their mask just on their chin or around their necks. I never seen anyone cleaning the common areas. I was there 3 nights. Upon arriving Thursday I asked for extra pillows and towels (which is also on my profile) I was told they can not accommodate us with that. Got our keys and went to explore the city. Came back that night to go to the room it had a sticker on the door saying it has been cleaned and sanatized, only to find it dirty. There was hair all in the bathroom, tub was running which was leaving a brown ring around the drain, the comforter had blood stains on it. Went to the front desk (employee had no mask on), she moved us to anther room. Go to that room there was no sticker on the door I immediately called the front desk she assured us that it was cleaned and sanitized but forgot the sticker. Well wrong! The bathroom wasn't even restocked with toiletries, again hair in the shower. Its was 2:30am, so the next morning we went to talk to the manager and all she had was excuses. Oooo we only have 16 staff, we are limiting with Covid. Well don't open if you can't keep up with the new guidelines. I was moved again with the manager and housekeeping manager holding the door open staring at us while we were packing up our things, it felt like we did something wrong the way they were treating us. I finally asked what was going to be done, she said she was gonna give us a discount, instead I said just give me free parking she said she couldn't do that for 2 nights. Eventuality spoke to the general manager who also pretty much blamed Covid. But did give me 2 nights of parking which was a value of $106. I paid over$400 for the 3 nights. This is not a good representation of a Marriot. I will never stay at an AC again Also, beds were extremely uncomfortable. read more

We throughly enjoyed our five day stay! The hotel is very clean! Cannot find a better location with Michigan Ave just a couple of blocks over. So many nice restaurant choices nearby plus the Trader Joe's in the same building made it nice to buy some water and snacks for our stay. Highly recommend! read more

This is easily one of my favorite hotels that I've stayed in. I highly recommend staying here, and look forward to staying here again when business brings me to Chicago. Building: The hotel is a very new and modern building, that is beautifully decorated. My room had a lovely wood floor, lots of extra space, a private balcony, and the amazingly comfortable Marriott mattress. Customer Service: Everyone I spoke to was incredibly friendly and helpful - even when I couldn't find the building initially. Additionally, the management left me a very kind note and provided me with three plates of delicious desserts. Location: If you're a tourist in Chicago, and want to explore downtown, there is no better location than this. You're a 10 minute walk to the Hancock Center, 25 minute walk to Sears Tower, 3 minute walk to Michigan Avenue, 5 minute walk to the red line, 2 minute walk to Trader Joes, 15-20 minute walk to Millennium Park, and close to many museums. read more

The room I was assigned stank of weed. Hostile and condescending receptionist refused to move me. No management on site or available on the phone, only other employee on site was a delusional teenage security guard who threatened me, while I waited 15 minutes for a refund. Don't let the Marriott name fool you. This is a substandard hotel. Dirty sheets and holes in them. No cups for coffee. Unresponsive front desk despite calls to ask for things. Rude / inhospitable front desk. I gave it two stars because it is close to so much in Chicago. No breakfast /coffee in lobby. I only now read all the reviews. Seems dirty sheets, cold/rude staff and "no frills" is the standard. And the man sleeping off whatever drug he took lying by the pool outside our bedroom took the cake. I'm sorry, but Marriott but you are seriously trying to hard to segment out your brands. The "image" and product that you are trying to sell is missed in the execution in the AC. Pro's : + Location - Half a block from Michigan, 2 blocks from the 'L', multiple bus stops around, plenty of food options, and somehow smack dab near 3 Starbucks + Shower- Nice height. I'd say if your 6'2 and under you should be good. + Power Plugs- plentiful and conveniently located +Room size - the rooms are huge. I'd say they are double the size of what I would expect for a downtown hotel. + Elites received a $10 voucher for the mini-store Con's: - Let's be real, there is nothing boutique charm about this hotel. It's not a small hotel, the design is a mimic of the new Marriott design, the lobby is really just that, there really isn't anything unique to the hotel design that stands out. If you want boutique, I'd go to the new Autograph Collection Hotel, Hotel EMC2 about 1.5 blocks away or a Kimpton or other hotel in the area. - Bed - You can put all of the bells and whistles in a hotel, but if the bed isn't comfortable, you've lost me. - Furniture/ design - At quick glance, it looks clean and modern, but it is just a really cheap imitation of the new Marriott design. The desk chair and couch are not comfortable and therefore not really functional to me. - Bathroom design- it's the little details that are important, such as the toilet paper holder that can easily be accessed and a toilet seat that is the correct size of the toilet. - Microwave- While there is a fridge in the room, trying to track down a microwave is a bit tricky. There isn't one in the lobby by the little store or one that sits out on the 4th floor in the breakfast/bar area. You have to hope to find someone on the 4th floor to nuke stuff for you. - It seems a bit odd, but there is no clock in the room, which is somewhat of an inconvenience if your phone magically dies - Noise travels. Try and avoid getting an adjoining room. - No breakfast is offered for elites. You have to pay for it. Overall, for the price and experience for a multi-day stay, I'd find myself elsewhere. For a one day stay, it's fine. read more
