Asking for the corner room so you can have amazing views of the river and bridges. Room can be colder than other hotel rooms because how old this building is, but people were nice and view is unforgettable.

This hotel really grew on me as we stayed here for four nights in late July! At first, it seems kinda just OK, and when we got to our room the AC was making the most obnoxious whining sound (which when you're traveling with two small kids, you're kinda used to but I digress..) OK, the not-so-great: I went out to check on the ice machine on our floor but it was broken. Went to check on the fresh water from the fitness center and it was also broken. I was wondering what I signed up for, but here's where it gets better: My girls and I made "ice missions" where we'd go to a higher floor to fill up the bucket. It became a highlight for them, and they still talk about it. The AC still made the sound, but we got used to it like a weird white noise. I was too tired each day to notice anymore. Now for some highlights: The beds were really comfortable and we all slept great! When we got up, we were all excited for the breakfast that was included. This saved me SO much time and money. My kids need to eat quick when they get up, and sometimes they think they're hungrier than they are. With restaurant prices and wait times, it was so nice to have this all baked in. Some of the breakfast highlights were cheese omlettes, crispy bacon, OJ, and the homemade blueberry waffle maker. Also nice to have pretty good coffee available right when you get down there. It was really busy at breakfast one day, but we shared a table with some nice ladies in for a tradeshow. Oh and I haven't even mentioned the location -- perfection for what we needed. Footsteps from the riverwalk. Accessible to TONS of bus lines. An easy walk to Millenium Park and the bean, or Metra stations, etc. Loved being right in the action here and how easy everything was. So this was worth it 100% for us. We went at peak Chicago tourism season so it was marked up a bit, but again we made it up in food and by having easy access to everything we needed. I'd stay here again for sure.

This is a fun hotel with a glamorous feel. I stayed for two nights and enjoyed the experience. Cons: if you want to buy treats at the hotel store, the selection is limited. The middle elevator is a service elevator, but I didn't find that out until I was already on it because of a small sign inside, and then a staff member scolded us for using it. Pros: everything else. Except for that one staff person on the elevator, everyone was incredibly kind and helpful. The desk staff let us check our luggage at the end of our stay, then offered to watch it a few minutes longer after we retrieved it so we could use the restroom. The atmosphere smacks of a 1920s speakeasy. The breakfast is varied and tasty. The vintage car is cool. Would stay again!

I booked this hotel for my recent 4 night / 5 day stay in the city. Upon arrival, the front desk associate was very friendly. He checked me in right away and gave me my complimentary Diamond member water bottles. He was very friendly and even thanked me for my stay and for my Hilton member status. On the second day of our stay, I requested housekeeping to make a visit on our third day. I texted the app and got a response from the front desk right away and my housekeeping visit was confirmed. Next day rolled around and when we got back to our room late at night, our room had not been cleaned. We needed new towels and trash to be taken out but no one showed up. I texted the app right away and I received an apology and was told they would get me in the next day. The next day our room was finally cleaned. We were so thankful and relieved. We enjoyed the room. The room was spacious and there was enough room for the four of us. We had two queen beds with plenty of room and the beds were super comfy! We had breakfast once and it was decent. They had an assortment of entrees which included: quiche, hard boiled eggs, breads, muffins, sausage, oatmeal, waffles, cereal, juices, fruits, and yogurt. (there might've been more but can't remember) The lobby area is nice and has plenty of seating. One of the nights we had ordered food via Grubhub and so we went downstairs to wait. The overnight associate working the front was very unhelpful and unfriendly when we asked him a question. He left a sour taste in our mouth. Out of all the employees we interacted with, he was the only one that was rude. We loved that the hotel was located in such a good area and so close to everything we had planned to do. It's such a prime spot and you can walk to everything from here! We felt safe in the area as well.

I wish Hilton would put more work into promoting this beautiful, historic building. It housed the Chicago Motor Club and later AAA (triptiks!). The lobby features a promotional mural map of the United States that was restored, and other original features appear restored to match its art deco architecture. Here's some history on it: https://www.chicago.gov/content/dam/city/depts/zlup/Historic_Preservation/Publications/Chicago_Motor_Club_Bldg.pdf We stopped in for a drink on our way to dinner and enjoyed the atmosphere. But we were the only ones there - couldn't Hilton do something to draw crowds into such a special building, especially with its modestly-priced drink menu? Clean things up, dim the lights and get this place going as a cocktail destination!

DO NOT STAY HERE. Standards have dropped and are not worth the price anymore. This hotel and the management are disappointing and highly advise to not book this hotel. The ONLY POSITIVE to this is the individual who checked me in has been great and very accommodating. She was great and Housekeeping: It is not every day, which is fine, but now it's been MULTIPLE DAYS of my trip without a clean room, and I have to ask for more towels consistently. Room appearance: The rooms are small and cramped. There is ample outside noise, and the windows do not open. The room needs renovation as there are stains on the wall, stained tiles (almost mold), a painted ceiling, and windows that need soundproofing. I sent a formal email to the General Manager on 07/23/2024 and have yet to hear back at all. It just shows how much they care about their guests. The only response I got is when I filled out the survey for Hilton and got a standard response but not action as to what is going to happen.

My first night when I couldn't get up to the roof, I tried the restaurant downstairs. Also closes at 11pm. 10:20, hostess says they just called last call. I said cool I can order a drink. Then someone else said they close at 11:00pm but will call last call at 10:30 to help with the kitchen. and then confirmed, well they closed a little early that night. The last Hampton inn I got stuck in the elavator and had an off experience with getting help, so I chose to use the stairs. Upon using the stairs we were met with SEVERAL linen boxes blocking our only exit. They were all in different directions and could not be easily rolled out, especially when we were blocked behind them. Instead we had to parkour over it to escape. There was a valet driver sitting at the front and ignored us after I asked for help and continued to say she's just valet she can't do anything. These bins were there for well over an acceptable time, blocking the only stairs and fire safety exit but also for people that didn't enjoy their sketchy elevators. And again, pallets were there days later also blocking the ONLY emergency exit and stairwell exit. Completely unacceptable in a normal city let alone one with history of building fires. Exits should not be blocked and it's clear the building uses this space for "storage" often. Before the fire situation even happened, their breakfast situation was insane. Our first morning was on a Monday. Their service is until 10 am and around 9am we headed down for some fuel. By that time, the dining room was packed, the tiny buffet room was empty of food but packed with people who were waiting for tables, chairs and all of the food to be restocked. One woman was trying to run the whole operation while two men just stood behind the concierge desk and watched the shit show of breakfast service happen in front of them. Someone should have helped her get breakfast together. Even if it wasn't their job, in hospitality, their job as hotel manger or anyone who works in the hotel is to make sure the guest have a pleasant stay, not to look pretty sitting in front of the Hampton inn welcome to Chicago sign. Overall unorganized and not something nice to look at when you first walk into a hotel lobby, chaos. You would think the grievances would stop there. However we were then denied the benefits that we get as gold Hilton members. Previously at hiltons and Hilton branches we have been offered two bottles of water per room per day. Most of the time they would be offered upon check in (which they did not) and given daily throughout our stay. This time the concierge allowed my mom just to go grab them out of the fridge. The next day we did the same and the concierge Robyn gave me immediate backlash even after I said we were previously allowed to take them. She repeatedly said I was wrong and gave no hospitality to hear my side of the story. I didn't want to cause a scene and returned my water. She then slammed them onto our table as I was eating breakfast with my family. Definitely could have been better ways for her to deal with the problem and I did not appreciate the hostility coming from the concierge at 9 am. We were already all crammed at a small table because there are no seating arrangements easily accessible for families or even enough seats in the dining room. One star because housekeeping did great and my room was clean and refreshed when necessary (and because zero is not an option) Otherwise I would hope I never have to stay here again.

The staff were somewhat friendly until different things started to come up... 1st issue: Friday night the elevators completely stopped working. Big problem due to having a small infant and needing to get the stroller down. We were staying on the 10th floor. But an even bigger problem was that we started to notice floods of people come on our floor and notify us that there was not an exit even via the stairs!!!! My husband got on the phone with the front desk and the reply was "you are just going to have to wait for the elevator." This was completely unacceptable and UNSAFE- what if there was a fire? What if something dangerous was happening and we couldn't get out of the building? This itself would have landed this hotel at a 1-2 rating. The elevator issue didn't fill resolve itself for our whole stay- only 2/3 were in service and they took 5-10 minutes to show up each time. Seriously inconvenient. 2nd issue: they put one of our rooms (we had 3 groups) literally next to the pool. Kids were screaming their heads off beginning at 6:30am and it would carry on until 10pm. When SIL called down to the front desk she was told "sorry that's just how it is and it should quiet down soon." Again, completely unacceptable. We had young children and infants who needed to nap and go to bed early. 3rd issue: we asked for a late check out since our flight was later and we needed to get our baby to take a nap- after all of these issues they said they would extend it to 1:00, which was nice. We did then ask if it could be extended another hour and we were told it would cost $25. Fine... what was not fine was when there was banging on our door and someone walked in at 1:25pm to clean the room. It woke up our baby and completely defeated the purpose of us extending our late check out and paying the extra $25. 4th issue: apparently they don't clean the rooms unless you are staying for 3 or more nights? We didn't know about this and assumed we would get new towels since there is a sign in the bathroom saying "hang towels to reuse" or "if you would like new ones, place them on the floor". We needed new towels so we followed what it said and then were told our rooms wouldn't be cleaned or even checked to see if we needed new towels. Good things I will say: - very convenient area - provided a pack n play - Starbucks in the hotel - hotel room was clean Would have love for this stay to have been better since the Marriott is well known and usually a great place to stay.... but the lack of customer service makes it hard to want to book another room at a Marriott hotel.

So the JW seemed affordable within the mix...at $700+ a night... I've stayed at a few JWs across Asia and the US. For whatever reason this one didn't seem to meet JW's normally high standard. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I think it started with the lobby and bar. It was always overcrowded and noisy, and just didn't feel very intimate or elegant. That followed with the fact there's only one restaurant in the hotel and both times we visited it was nearly empty. It's tucked on the second floor back in the corner, and just feels like a standard obligatory hotel restaurant. The food was good but the ambience was just odd. The room was well-appointed, including a comfortable bed and soft sheets. And the bathroom had everything we needed. But the service day-to-day required follow up. They forgot to restock coffee, water and cups a few times, and when I called the front desk they delivered in a trash bag. There is a daily service charge that I believe is $50 a night and provides Wi-Fi, access to gym, and a free class. We went to use the gym to access the sauna and steam room, but learned that's part of the spa not gym so had to pay a separate per person charge. The spa was refreshing but fairly standard. Not like the Seoul Marriott with multiple heated baths and a cold plunge. Call me spoiled. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is very nice but for $700 a night and knowing what I know about most JW's this just seems slightly below their standard. I wouldn't pay that much again, but would come back for a more affordable rate.
