In town for a hot sauce expo, and looked this up on Yelp. We ordered the chicken sandwich and chicken burrito. Had two Fantastic meals! The chicken sandwich is a double decker smeared with beans and my fiance said it was one of the best sandwiches he's had. He ordered it after seeing it made for someone else. I really enjoyed my tostadas here this past weekend. Nothing fancy, just simple, good Mexican food. Also very reasonably priced; my dish was $7 for a large portion. This place was recommended to us by my cousin, who happens to come here often! I gotta say I was not disappointed. It was really good and you can't beat the prices. We had a steak fajita, a carnitas burrito and a Milanesa sandwich along with some beers.it was delicious. Very tasty and satisfying. And the plates are pretty big. Not bad. I've played it safe with quesadillas (yummy shrimp with veggies), tortas (lots of meat, they o k), tacos, and other basic dishes. I like sitting at the diner style bar with a good book, munching my quesadillas while my laundry dries across the street. For being only one block from my pad, great spot for quick, cheap eats. For a while, I was going to Acapulco hungover and couldn't truly enjoy it. Then, I discovered it's better when you're not still drunk. Food is fresh, service is perfunctory. Only drawback is that you have to order tacos by the platter, and can't get tacos a la carte. But, if you go with a friend, you can share -- problem solved. read more

one of my favorite hidden greenpoint restaurants. I love their burritos. Its not really a burrito, just a massive amount of food stuffed in a tortilla for super cheap. And they always throw some veggies in there which I like. I mean, the food isnt spectacular but its always straight forward diner style mexican and I find that delicious/comforting. also the chilled out atmosphere and price cant be beat. Like many of the reviewers below, being from California, I am always searching for good Mexican food. I used to really love Acapulco, especially their guacamole burrito, which they seem to have changed. I am a fan of spicy foods and have a pretty high tolerance, but their guac burrito has become almost unbearably hot. They have also raised the price of the burrito by about a $1 ... it is still pretty inexpensive by New York burrito pricing standards, but considering these two changes I have come to prefer the burritos at Papacitos. I agree with the previous commentators' problems with broccoli served in burritos. It seems that this is just as common in New York as charging around $5 for chips and salsa and I am pleased that Papacitos stays away from including this green in their tortilla. read more

I ordered the chips and guacamole and vegetable burrito. The chips are freshly made and come to the table hot and crunchy, and the guac had a little kick to it. I would come back again just for this. The burrito was gigantic, and the rice and beans were tasty. I wasn't expecting broccoli and carrots in my burrito, so that was a little unexpected. It wasn't bad, it was just a little weird. I just recently moved to NYC and I have yet to find a place that has better value than Acapulco. I work right across the street and I'm in there at least once a week. I can get a giant turkey club with bacon, fries, and a pickle for under $7. I normally can't even finish the meal. A far cry from paying $8 for a skimp sandwich at an un-named deli down the street. The hard shelled tacos were absolutely delicious. We ordered the grilled chicken ones and the ratio of the toppings was perfect.

This place rules. It's cheap and open pretty late -- and you can just get up and grab your own beer. If you're looking for Mexican food around Greenpoint this is probably your best bet. It's not amazing, but it's a great value, and it's a hell of a lot better than Papacitos nearby, which pretty much caters to young hipsters who grew up nowhere near Mexican food. read more

After hearing so much hype about this place, I finally checked it out. I find that unassuming, hole-in-the wall spots typically end up delivering the best mexican fare. However, this theory proved wrong when I came to Acapulco. I devoured the guacamole and chips, which was amazing. However, once our food arrived I was surprisingly disappointed. The vegetable fajitas were tasteless. It appeared as though they simply heated a bag of frozen veggies and plopped them on a plate with rice and beans. The entire dish lacked seasoning (not even salt and pepper!) and was all around unappetizing, even when smothered in hot sauce. We also ordered the Steak Torta and the Chorizo Tostada. The torta was simply "meh", not memorable. The chorizo, however, was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. Definitely recommended. I think I'll give this place another chance. I haven't explored the general "diner" fare, I stuck strictly to the mexican portion of the menu. I'd be curious to sample a few more dishes. Overall, the place was clean, but lacked atmosphere. Service was quick, yet abrupt. I can understand the draw of this place, the cuisine is authentic, yet was lacking the freshness and flavor I desired. You definitely get your money's worth as far as quantity. We ordered 3 dishes between 2 hungry people and we ended up taking home more than half of our meal. Very basic mexican. Acapulco is such a gem. Fast, friendly, great menu, and the food....probably the best Mexican you get can in NYC at the moment. Tacos are fresh and the flavors are done right. Their guacamole rules the roost. Also, they have the cheapest beers on Manhattan Ave and they are served in chilled mugs. Not enough praise for how good they are. No pretensions, just great food. Don't look for artistry on a plate, its all in the food. All the hipster douches that have slammed this place are thoroughly missing the point. read more
