They all know where everything is in the store and if they can't answer your question they get someone who has better knowledge on a project or product. Little things count, like being assured your purchase can be returned if it is defective, whooops not at ACE on THE FAX, I refuse to buy anything from someone who does not put customer first and these people obvioulsy refuse to do so, I am an ACE rewards member and have purchased items from ACE for decades, but now that is over, why go to a company that refuses to offer customer service when Amazon, Lowes and Homedepot are very willing to work with a customer. An item that was purchased several months ago and never used until a few weeks ago broke almost immediately after no more than 20 uses. I called to get the blades sharpened on my "push" lawnmower. It is nearly impossible to find any place that is able to do this. One of the biggest problems is getting the mower to the place of business. Ace was able to take care of everything! Of course, there was a charge for pickup and delivery, but I am so pleased that the blades were sharpened. I am very happy with a job well done. read more

Wow, has this location gone downhill! We had an electrician at our home on Saturday and, to save time, I went to Ace Hardware to pick up an item for him while he stayed and worked. He had written exactly what he needed on a piece of paper. A very nice young man at Ace tried to help when an older man came over, snatched the piece of paper and started walking away. The older guy proceeded to tell me I actually needed something else, which was a lot more expensive, and that the electrician didn't know what he was talking about. The young kid actually mouthed "I'm sorry" behind the guy's back. I told the guy I just needed what was on the paper and he said they didn't have it and again tried to tell me I needed the other item. He was so incredibly arrogant! I ended up just walking away and heading down the street to the True Value. They had the part, made sure it was the correct item and I was out in minutes for under $15. I don't know if the Colfax location has undergone management or an ownership change but this is definitely not the same service we used to get. Sad. read more

Juel and team not only were so helpful in deciding my husband's Christmas present, they set up the entire tool chest and did not charge me any money to do so. I had a complicated problem involving stripped and broken screws for my license plate. Was worried I would need to buy all sorts of tools and possibly even pay a mechanic to fix it for me. Manager Juel Teslow not only advised me expertly but actually took the time to come out and help me solve the problem himself; he took it on as a challenge to resolve. Truly above and beyond the call of duty. His concern was clearly about helping me as a customer over having me spend more money than I needed to. I have been going to true value for decades ie you use to be able to pay utility Bill's there and whole store use to dress up for halloween. The service has been going down lately so tried ace. Super friendly staff. Attentive and helpful. Even got compliment on my shirt from staff. Service between two hardware is day and night. Highly reccomend. read more

Confession: I am not the type of girl to even visit a hardware store, let alone write a review for one. I visited Ace on the Fax in the midst of a bathroom remodel. I was hot, sweaty, exhausted, and needed some help finding a few obscure (to me at least) items. Walking into Ace on the Fax was like walking into heaven (at least compared to the construction zone I hailed from.) It was one of the hottest days of summer and their AC was BLASTING. The store was clean, well-organized, and employees were gracious and attentive. I was immediately greeted upon entering the store and every employee I passed as I walked through the store offered help to me. I happened to be here with my mother and the bathrooms had her full approval- she couldn't stop gushing over their cleanliness. Shout out to the people working at the window/screen counter. I brought in some screens that needed to be re-screened and had no idea what to ask for. They asked the right questions, showed me different screen options, and made a recommendation based on what was the best quality as well as what was most affordable. I think I've found my new go-to for any home improvement projects I take on in the near future. read more

Spotty. I love the independent and community oriented aspect of this store. Most visits are met with very helpful people and a well stocked store. I recently stopped by with some paint to match and was disappointed with the effort put in to actually match the paint. I'm used to efforts that are finished by putting a dab of paint on the sample for a clear side-by-side demonstration of match. This work was delivered with the comment "its a little darker". I was a fool for not staying and fighting for a better match and regret the effort I put in using the paint I was delivered. I should have refused to purchase, shame on me. The store could do better by either working for closer matches, or making the limitations more clear. I'll have to paint the whole room now. Normally not a problem, but this one has walls over 12 ft. high. read more

This is a brand new store located on Colfax, can't you tell by the name. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood, it's right there as you turn off of Quebec, very convenient for me. My Mom is in town and we were just looking for a couple items. First on the list, some soil. We picked up a smaller bag of soil and they did a price check and guy said the bigger bag (same brand) outside is cheaper. We went outside, guy working in tow and looked at the bag and by golly it was cheaper, it had a $5 rebate attached to it. So the guy picked it up and started carrying it for us. Then we needed fertilizer, the guy lead the way to that aisle and pointed out fertilizer selection, we made our pick and then we decided we needed some bleach as well. The guy walked us to that aisle and pointed out the bleach, he is still carrying the 50lb bad of soil. We grab our bleach and head up to the counter. Guy and soil in tow. We pay for the items and he even walks the soil out to my car and loads it in the trunk, now this is great customer service and with a smile no less. *Did I mention this a dog friendly establishment, as long as your dog is on a leash you can walk in with fido and do your shopping. Poor experience. I was already annoyed when I got there, because I couldn't remember exactly where they were, and a Google or Yelp search for "ace hardware" doesn't show this store, because they call themselves Ace on The Fax. Whatever. I finally found them. I needed a lightbulb, and I had a picture of it, with all the identifying info. I was looking in light bulbs and an employee came to ask me if I needed help. I said yes, and said what kind of lightbulb I was looking for, and then I just got a blank stare from the employee. So I awkwardly said "okay, so, since I'm not seeing the lightbulb I guess you don't have it?" And he said "okay." and I left and went to Denver True Value Hardware and got exactly what I needed. read more

I think what I like about Ace on the Fax is their commitment to finding the part you need. If you need some obscure grill or lawnmower part and they don't carry an analogous brand or part they will take all the info and call you back days later after doing the adequate research to find what you need. "Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks." But for real. The prices are slightly higher than your Home Depot or Lowe's, but it's the customer service that keeps me coming back. People there will take the time to consult you on what you're doing and give you thoughtful suggestions (looking at you Bill!). It's never an up-sell, but a genuine conversation about what they've known to work best. So many spring projects. So many questions. I love hardware stores, but our first visit (we are new in Denver) to Ace on the Fax was, unfortunately, not a success. Clerks seemed sullen and indifferent, showing us, for example, a spray primer that "doesn't stick well," and then shrugging when I asked about other options. Even though this store is close to where we live, we'll choose the Ace in Virginia Village for further shopping. read more

i remember the days you could go to Ace and find hard to find parts. Lately it seems like even basic items are always out of stock or hard to find. For example working on a ball valve replacement on my sprinkler this week and thought I'd rather pay a little more to go close to Ace then drive to Home Depot. Unfortunately they didn't have much of any stock no matter what size I was looking for. Even if I had found the part I was not looking forward to standing in line because they had one person working the front and a long line. Remembered that True Value was a half mile down the road so I went there and they had plenty of selection, no line, and I was back home and part was replaced in no time. I just need to start remember to start with True Value first and using Ace as a back up plan moving forward. Plus half the time (weekends) you would think they would open up earlier then 8am. read more

I moved into Park Hill about a year ago and found this store. They have consistently exceeded my expectations from the knowledgeable and friendly staff, to the beyond cool folks in back. Yesterday was a case in point. I had been struggling with my Honda lawnmower that I bought from Home Depot for weeks. They were supposedly "fixing it" after a winter laid dormant with bad gas, the mower, and not... well, this isn't about me. The MENSAs at Home Depot couldn't get the goddarn thing to run consistenly (took it back twice after humping it in an out of my car). Went to pick it up after it was "fixed" yesterday, and the GD thing was running at half speed. I grabbed the thing, jammed it back in my car and went to Ace on the Fax hoping for deliverance. Deliverance indeed! The folks out back felt my pain over the Home Depot experience. With one pull of the mower, the dude out back (I'm horrible with names, but the big feller) heard the engine and knew, like in a millisecond, what the issue was. There was a GD Honda repair bulletin on it!! Now what happened next is where the Ace on the Fax shines. Bigman was going home, but seeing my state of mental distress, delayed his departure to the beautiful world of non-work, and fixed it on the spot! A quick trip to grab him a twelver of Heineken left smiles all around. And yes, the mower is working perfectly!! I will not set foot in the Home Depot again. AotF is the best! read more

I'm not a hardware store type, so I appreciate help when I get it. Especially when it doesn't cost extra. Last year, an associate here helped me figure out how to hang bamboo blinds on my covered patio. This year, I decided to add some more blinds, and I walked in the store with last year's prototype "hanger." Long story short: The makeshift hanger is a pain to put together, and materials had to be ordered. I was told everything would be ready in two days and they would call me. I was skeptical, but everything happened exactly as promised. Yeah, the store is at a yucky location, but the parking lot feels safe and the store inside and out is always clean and tidy. Upon entering I was immediately asked to leave my backpack at the register. Do they ask every woman to leave her purse, or every mother or father to leave the diaper bag at the register? I refused since I was carrying a computer. Denver is pushing for more bicycles and more mass transit, and people carrying backpacks should not be treated any differently than women (or men) with purses. Then the item I wanted to purchase rang up as $6.99, when it was posted as $3.99. I asked the clerk to walk 10 steps to look at the posted price, but she refused and wouldn't leave her register, although no one else was waiting in line (not surprising). Can't say enough good things about this neighborhood store! Exceptional customer service and all of their employees have been wonderful to work with. Morgan is a great manager who helped get a special window screen fabricated for me as well as being a great all around person to work with! Also took a chain saw which wasn't working to their repair shop in the back and they fixed it while we waited. The blade needed to be replaced. They also cleaned the saw but the only charge was for the new blade. A lot of work was provided for $27!! (Won't ever go back to Denver True Value on Colfax after having a horrible experience being bullied and cussed at by a clerk there named John). read more

WOW, this store is beautiful. Big, new, clean, wide aisles, etc. with large parking lot. The customer service is spotty. About 1/3 of the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, about 1/3 are indifferent, and about 1/3 are basically brain dead. Sadly the other day only the indifferent and brain dead were working. Watch the prices, as many are higher than other Ace stores in the area. They do have a large stock and probably have whatever hardware item you are after. Mike and the gang helped with my wheel barrel tire, which came off the rim. Not only did he find a $7 inner tube for my flat tire, he installed it for free. The place down the street wanted $15 for the inner tube and $8 to install it! I had been dragging that tire around for days. They saved me time and frustration. Besides, the store is huge and brand new. I'll never go anywhere else! read more

Went there on advice of my local (12th Ave) Ace when I had a part from my furnace with a stuck thread. Their shop guy took it, re-threaded it, and I was on my way in 20 minutes. No charge. This store is wonderful! The customer service is as good as it gets and they almost always have everything I need. And the staff goes way beyond what is expected- replacing a battery in a car fob when I was clueless. Most recently Matt fixed our car fob then followed up with the manufacturer to try to figure out why our fob had gone bad.
