I dropped into the shop to see if my sewing machine could be fixed. It kept jamming the thread. Dragan Terzeu looked at it and explained to me that I was not threading it properly. He took the time to show me how to thread it properly and explained how to keep it from happening again. He was so generous with his time. You don't find service like this anymore. A month ago I bought my wife a Brother sewing machine from Amazon. After a few days of moderate use the machine stopped working. It was the first sewing machine I have ever purchased and i had no idea what do to with it. Return it or get it repaired. So I decided to visit Ace Vacuum & Sewing based on the good reviews on Yelp. I'm really glad i did. Dragan, the owner repaired our sewing machine and explained to us that our purchased model is not suited for heavy fabrics like jeans and my wife used it mainly to do jeans alterations. He suggested we get a model that can handle the workload. He offered us a sewing machine of higher quality (made in Switzerland ) with a 5 year warranty on it. Awesome deal. On top of it, he gave us a 30 minutes intro on how to use the sewing machine. He is a brilliant guy. So we left the store with the new model and my wife is using it now for 2 days doing all her heavy fabrics alterations and she loves the model and the results. I'm updating my review (original below) - when I went in to pick it up I had a conversation with the man who does the sewing machine repairs. He let me know he could have my machine fixed by the end of the day, and that he'd been dealing with a huge backlog. I appreciate that he stepped up to get my repair done. I do still wish they were more upfront with the quantity of repairs and how long it would take. -------- I was excited that I had a vac/sewing machine repair in my neighborhood. I took my sewing machine in for a quick tune up, the man told me service usually runs around $90 and that I would get a call in about a week. Two weeks go by and I call to check in. The man says it hasn't been checked yet and that he would move it ahead in the line for me. Another week goes by and I call again. This time he has a quote ready - $110. The machine was a hand me down, so at this point I'm wondering if I should just buy a new one. But, I ask if it will take long to repair once I ok the cost and he says it shouldn't take long. I hesitantly agree. Another week has gone by and still no word. At this point I'm just hoping they haven't started work on it so I can pick it up and take it elsewhere or purchase a new machine. I wish they were more transparent with how long this would take, if I had been told up front it would be more than a week I would never have left it. I like to support my local businesses but this has been a big disappointment. read more

I had loaned my Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner to a neighbor and when I got it back, it didn't work properly. I gave them a call, brought it in that day, and it was fixed in a few hours! I originally went in to get some bags for my Simplicity vacuum and discovered since the last time I was in the ownership had changed much to my delight. Dragen was so nice that I took my old Singer sewing machine in for service. It had sat for 6 years, they quoted me a price and were upfront about being behind so I would understand not having it back right away. It took about 3 weeks and I could not be happier. They also helped me get my little portable sewing machine bobbin reset as no matter what I did it kept falling out. They also told me about another filter in my vacuum I was unaware about and helped me get it out of the vacuum so I could replace it and boy did it need it. Marty and Dragen are the best!! Although you admit that I had to bring in the vacuum back 2 weeks after your first botched "fix", you claim I was not even a customer of yours so I should not be yelping and that the vacuum was never mine to begin with? You are beginning to sound like a psychopath. Are you now denying that I brought in MY OWN vacuum for you to fix? Are you now denying that I paid you $65 the first time I brought in MY OWN vacuum for you to fix? Perhaps you think I paid you the $65 (for which I still have the receipt) for your pretty eyes? It's interesting, though. If the vacuum was never mine to begin with (like you claim) and if I was never a repair customer in the first place (like you claim), how is it that I have a receipt for a $65 repair on my Kenmore vacuum? And you included a quote in your reply, but I have no idea who you are quoting. You state, "The police did not agree with her"... WHEN DID THE POLICE EVER MAKE SUCH AN EVALUATION? You are just desperate and making things up. You never spoke to the police, because like I described in my previous posts, I was the one to step out of your store after you put your hands on my vacuum and forbade me from taking it without paying you an additional $25. I stepped out of your store and I called the non-emergency police number. The operator told me that police NEVER get involved in civil disputes and that I would have to get an attorney and sue you for your shady practices and unlawful withholding of my property. I told you that exactly when I walked back into your shop to get your name and business card so that I could file a lawsuit against you. You knew you were wrong and you knew you were messing with the wrong person because I had absolutely no hesitation suing you for trying to take advantage of me. Only then, you started to get apologetic and even expressed hope that I would not tell any other potential customers about what you tried to pull on me. Now you're making stuff up to protect yourself. Your story is getting increasingly pathetic. read more

I would LOVE to give this place a great review, I really love small businesses. Unfortunately my review is not great. My vacuum started to make a very loud noise and it made me worried to use it, I thought I would try to fix it rather than purchase another hunk of plastic waste. I was also broke so cheaper is better and another $100+ vacuum is out of the question. I chose this store because I always see it next to Yummy Cupcakes (delish!) and it looked like a cute shop. I'd envisioned a little old man being a wiz at fixing vacuums and I'd rather give my money to him than a large company. This was not the case. I entered and there were two young guys dressed in suits with slicked back hair standing at the entrance, I walked in and mind you, it's a tiny store so I had to walk past them lugging my vacuum cleaner. Neither of them said hello so I assumed they were customers, I walked to the other side of the store and looked for someone. After a minute one of the guys went to the back room and the other one turned and looked at me. After another minute of us looking at each other I finally said "do you work here" and he nodded. Ok. So I dragged my vacuum to him and said "I think there's something wrong with the motor, I'd like to know if I can fix it". I'm not even kidding when I say that he took the vacuum plug it in, turned it on for LESS than 2 seconds, turned it off and said "yup it's the motor, it's busted". I was so taken aback that he gave such little effort to examining my vacuum, he didn't look at the outside or under the vacuum, just a quick plug in. It was obvious he wanted to sell me one of his vacuums. He then said "I can do a trade in for $170 towards one of these". Now I know I paid $100 for that vacuum, it worked well and served its purpose but the trade in seemed like he was just trying to get rid of his stock. He then tried to sell me one of the other vacuums for $250-350. He didn't ask if I was looking to buy a new vacuum or what my price range was. It completely overwhelmed me and I left. Less than 5 minutes in that store and I would never go back. I hope this was a rare occurrence and I hope they are a good store but I'll never know. read more

I can only talk about these guys' sewing machine repair services. It was poor to say the least, and I'm giving two stars only because they gave us a discount to make up for their extremely poor performance. So I had a 1970s Singer sewing machine that needed to be looked at for a threading problem. We called Sears, another local shop, and Ace for quotes and turnaround times. We decided to go with Ace because they gave the cheapest quote ($59-$69 vs. $90-$95 from the other two places) and promised next day service. We took the sewing machine down on a Saturday morning and the guy told us he would call us on Monday or Tuesday with an accurate quote of what it would cost (but stressed it wouldn't be more than $69, or up to $80 if a part was needed). He calls on Tuesday and actually quotes $120 (!!!) but promises a full service and a written 1-year warranty. So we said, what the heck, let's do it even at that price. They already have the machine and a full service doesn't sound like a bad idea either. He said it would be a couple days and he'd call when it would be ready. So much for $69 and so much for next day service!!! What we couldn't possibly imagine is that it would actually take a whole 3 weeks to have the sewing machine back! After the first few days went by without a peep, my husband would call them every 2-3 days for an update, and the sewing machine would always be "with his uncle" and he didn't know when it would be ready, but probably "today or tomorrow". Then another 2-3 days would go by with no word, we would call back and would be given a similar response all over again. Speak of no sense of urgency or customer service! The last time we called the guy promised a discount to make up for the delay. Finally, a whole 3 weeks after we first dropped off the sewing machine, we got the call that it was ready to be picked up, at last! We go, we pick it up, the guy at first doesn't remember about the discount but my husband reminds him, and luckily he gives us $10 off - at least that's something. Then we go home, we open the case, and the manual that we had (perhaps stupidly) left in there is missing!! So we call the guy, of course he has no idea, he says he'll call his uncle to ask, and we haven't heard from him ever since! Luckily, we were able to find the manual online, so not a big deal, but it goes to show even more how disorganized they are, and how customer service is obviously an unknown word to them! Two stars because they had the decency to offer the discount (even though we had to remind them) and because they did a good job with the service. But all in all, a very painful experience, a long delay that had nothing to do with their "next day service" pledge, a price that was far higher than what was promised originally, and a complete inability to follow through their promises. Had we known in advance that it would be like that, we would have gone elsewhere! read more

Took my 20+ year old sewing machine to JoAnns and they jerked me around for a month and gave it back to me unfixed and said it was the motor and that part was no longer available. So I went on ebay and ordered a new motor. I took my old sewing machine and my new motor in to Ace and one day later it was fixed and they said they didn't even use my new motor. He said I had a good machine, it only needed a major cleaning, lubricating and adjustment. I was so happy, I love my machine not like these new plastic machines. I inherited a Kenmore Sewing Machine several years ago. It must be over 40 years old but it is all metal, not plastic. I moved here last year from the Midwest and the machine was hurt badly in the move. I read Ace's reviews on Yelp and they convinced me to bring my machine to Dragan. He repaired and serviced it. Now it sparkles and hums. Dragan also spent time with me offering helpful hints of what I should and should not do with the machine. These were simple instructions, but news to me. While carrying my sewing machine to the car he offered, "if you ever have a question or problem, call me". In addition, the price I paid for my beautiful, renovated machine was definitely affordable. I have a really expensive vacuum that's worth actually repairing as opposed to replacing, and it was reaching the point where it was basically just pushing around debris instead of actually cleaning. Dragan was friendly, helpful, and to the point, recognizing that I was in a rush but also giving me all of the information I needed. He immediately recognized the model, and immediately asked "is the hinge broken? That happens a lot on this model, but it's an easy repair!" The hinge WAS broken, and I felt reassured in my decision to go to Ace Vacuum Cleaners. After talking with Dragan, I decided to do a complete service and also repair the broken hinge, less than a week later, my vacuum runs like new! He even offered me to bring it in in 3 months so he could service the filters - for free! - when I mentioned that my allergies make it impossible for me to clean the filters myself. While I wouldn't call the service cheap, the price was more than fair, and I know my vacuum is set for awhile, and I am always willing to pay fair money for quality work and support small businesses. I highly recommend this small shop for all of your vacuum needs - he not only does servicing, but also has a variety of models available for purchase. I have had two occasions to use the services of Ace Vacuum & Sewing. Both were as 5-Star as it's possible to be. I had a Kitchen Aid Mixer, with a broken gear after years of service. NO ONE in LA would fix it! I actually got laughed at by some appliance repair people, and was almost reconciled to buying a new one - until I happened to walk by Ace Vacuum & Sewing and, on a whim, walked in and asked if they could fix it. Well yes they could! It being too heavy for me to bring to the store, Marty came and picked it up, and fixed it to perfection, for an amazingly good price. He also brought it back. More recently, my through-the-wall air conditioner broke down, just at the start of the big heat wave. Again, Marty and Dragan came, completely uninstalled the old one, and after they had spent hours trying to fix it, and found it unfixable, they went to the store and found a good one at a good price and brought it back and installed it. They worked for hours, going back and forth to the store getting wood and other things, to make sure that it was not only installed and working, but also had an aesthetically pleasing installation that required no small bit of carpentry-none of which they charged extra for, beyond the first estimate. I was bowled over by their work ethic and their kindness. (They also completely cleaned up, inside and outside!) If you have any kind of fix needed, try them before you exhaust yourself calling every appliance repair number in greater LA. Ace Vacuum & Sewing - at least ten stars!!! read more

Excellent Customer Service. Dragan was welcoming upon entering his store, looked at my sewing machine immediately and diagnosed a fairly simple repair (for him!). It was less than 15 minutes! It was a broken piece, which was still in the machine (not that I would have known that) and he epoxied it back in place. Found a new (okay used, but new to me) cover to match the machine too. And did I mention, the price was outrageously low? I've taken my machine to the brand name stores in the past, and had to pay $98 just to have them send it out to be looked at. They never actually tell you what was wrong. Dragan explains the problem and how he's fixing it. AND did I mention he carried the machine out to my car for me too. That's customer service!! My Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner looked like a sorry mess: the hose was held together with duct tape, the chord was held together with duct tape, other parts were held together by duct tape... lol... it wasn't picking up dirt/dust but blowing it out instead...plus the front rubber piece was coming off... Johnny at Ace was very friendly & knowledgable over the phone and since I'd taken it there before to be serviced, I figured I'd take it back there again. After getting the estimate (which was very fair), Johnny promised to have it done by the time I needed it and voila, it was done, ready, cleaned on the inside AND out, new filters, bells and whistles. The acid test: does it work when I get it home? Better than before! I HIGHLY recommend this place if you need vacuum repair - and apparently they're awesome at sewing machine repair as well. I bought a new vacuum for a gym. The owner sold me the Miele for $600 convincing me how it is the best sweeper out there especially for the fine dust particles(like chalk) in the gym. The sweeper lasted 13months and the handle broke. I went back in and said obviously this was not built for a gym. He said it was obviously dropped or misused. No it was used to sweep the floor... I said I want to trade it in for something else more "solid" "stronger" "commercial" for my environment. He wouldn't take it back and said it wasn't worth anything to him. That it needed a $50 HEPA filter and a $120 service. So it would cost him $170 just to service it. Sure it needs a new $50 HEPA filter but $120 to service it? wtf! This guy knows sweepers but he will try to sell you anything w/o considering the application it will be used in. Sure I should have known better myself, but I was extremely busy with a lot of things to do when I bought it and I thought I could trust an expert. Don't trust him to help you with your best interests....He sold me a replacement part for $40 and I kept it.. read more

So freaking happy! I was terrified to take my embroidery machine to any shop. I looked at yelp and saw that this shop had great reviews so I took the leap and left my baby to get some love and care. That is what she got. Before she sounded like machine gun fire and would get stuck it was awful. Now she is soooooo quiet and stitches smoothly. What I was really happy about was how fast I got my machine back, I was told once Dragan started on my machine he didn't stop until he was done, which happened to be at 4 in the morning. I dropped my machine off on Tuesday I had it back Sunday! It was really refreshing to walk into a shop and not feel like the person on the other side is going to swindle you or do a half ass job.
