THIS is what you expect from a restaurant that claims to be an Oyster House! Great oysters! Delicious. AND, they were huge! I especially loved the char-grilled oysters, which were the chef's kiss! My partner & I were in town for the wine festival. Our friends come every year and come to ACME as part of their itinerary. I can see why. Aside from the oysters, I had a shrimp platter. Everybody else had the special, which was Red fish. They all loved it! The food was good. Oh yeah, and one of my friends had the wedge salad, which looked very tasty. Lastly, their gumbo was a bit different from what we were used to (more of a soup than a gumbo), but it was still good. But let's get back to the oysters. I've gotta say, you must try them. Well, if you're a local, you may be used to the freshness & perfect brine, but this is something I haven't had in a while. On vacation and after reading numerous great reviews about this place we decided to try it out & it did not disappoint. It's family friendly and casual dining. They have a good selection of food items, from fried seafood items, to New Orleans style dishes. We ordered the fried shrimp platter with a side of hush puppies, the seafood platter and the Boom Boom shrimp. All dishes were very tasty and the portions were filling. Reasonably priced. Every time we come to Destin this place is always a must stop. They have the Best chargrilled oysters! I can get these and nothing else and be completely satisfied! Spent a week in Biloxi, Mobile, and the northwest Florida beaches and these were by far the best chargrilled oysters that I had. I've been to the original location off Bourbon in New Orleans and while this location felt much more chain-like, they know how to chargrill oysters right. Comes with bread and plenty of juice/sauce/butter/seasoning to dip it in. I will say that the oysters here were the most expensive out of the five places we went to this week so I wish they weren't so high, but they tasted the best. Wish I was spending more time in Destin so I could go here again. Came here twice, once during peak dinner time Friday night and again Saturday for lunch but never had to wait for a table which is nice since the Acme in the French Quarter in New Orleans there is always a long wait. read more

My wife and I were in Destin for vacation and decided to visit Acme Oyster house. We started with the Boom Boom Shrimp and they were OK at best. She had a half dozen grilled oysters and they were fabulous. I tried the New Orleans Medley and it was just OK. I think that I should have stuck with ordering one dish instead of trying samples of four different things. Oh, well. We decided to try the brownie sundae for dessert and it was huge, but very good. Our server seemed to have somewhere else that he would rather be, but he did take care of everything. The restaurant is a pretty good sized place with black and white checkerboard floors and kind of noisy. We are willing to go back and try something else. We'll see. read more

Started with some gulf oysters, which were as good as they could be. Service was good, our waiter was courteous and nice. A couple problems came about with the main dishes. They had red fish, but you couldn't get it on a sandwich. Then we tried to order a salad with shrimp for a person with a gluten allergy, and it showed up covered in teryaki sauce (with gluten) on the shrimp that were supposed to be just grilled. They fixed it quickly. I had fried oysters, they were great. The ambience is that of a casual dining restaurant. Convenience is key here, it is in walking distance of a number of condos. They could benefit from an expanded wine selection. Overall I'd go back, particularly for oysters, but not the best option for folks with a gluten allergy. read more

This experience started off rocky from the very beginning. The host seemed very distracted and wasn't sure where to seat us in a mostly empty restaurant. When we were sat it is what I commonly call "the cleanest dirty table", there were empty sugar packets on the table and in the chairs. It seemed like someone had made "swipe" at the table but it was far from clean. It took a while for our server to come over but he was pleasant and helpful, but fairly absent throughout the meal. I had a half dozen chargrilled oysters that were yummy, and there were 8 of them. I don't know if it was the end of the night or if they were small, but the extras were appreciated. Everything was ok, but there are so many other places to eat in the Destin area I think we will skip this one next time. read more

I stay here whenever I go to Destin, and a few weeks ago I visited Acme one night. It was lovely!! The host, my server, everyone was great, and the food was excellent as always. Besides oysters, they've got wings, onion rings, po-boys, platters, and salads. A dozen of raw oysters for $23.99, half dozen for $13.99. The raw oysters were good, however I wished they were a bit cleaner. One of the half-shells looked like some kind of gunk was on the edges...so I mainly used a fork to eat the meat. Our group ordered: * 3 dozens of oysters * 1/2 dozen of chargrilled oysters ($17.99) * Onion rings ($4.99) * 6 Wings ($12.99) * 1/2 and 1/2 shrimp and fish po-boy ($12.99) Service was okay. We came around 6:30pm on a weekday and service started off strong, but slowly declined as 2 large groups came in. One of our beers took forever to arrive, it neared the end of our meal before coming out. Overall, the raw oysters were great. The fried shrimp and fish in my po-boy was fresh and tasty too. The oysters were terrific. I also enjoyed boom boom shrimp. The fried clam po boy was okay, no real seasoning. I didn't get my etoufee until I asked for it at the end of the meal. They were short staffed but we waited for the table, despite several people walking by and plenty of empty tables. We also waited for refills the entire meal. Acme Oyster House is a great environment and a good time to have drinks and dinner. It's perfect if you have a big group of people because the restaurant is so big size. I had the 10 napkin po boy . The sandwich is packed with a lot of roast beef and it was very juicy and big enough to split. I would recommend this sandwich if you want some good comfort food. While in #Destin we went to @acmeoyster for dinner, and honestly I have been missing out, this place is great. we ordered the Chargrilled Oysters, Fried Crab Claws, Boom Boom Shrimp, and the Fried Shrimp and Fish Platter. first off the chargrilled oysters were amazing, the herb butter sauce just went well with the Oysters. next the Fried Crab Claws were perfect aswell specially with the Wasabi sauce. also enjoyed the Boom Boom Shrimp and again the sauce was a perfect compliment to the Shrimp. overall really enjoyed our meal, and definitely will be back. read more

Issue with the food and the server. Went out on Mother's Day and decided to get food here. Got a cheeseburger for my 1 year old daughter. She took one bite of the cheeseburger and didn't like it so she just ate the fries. We asked the waiter if we could only be charged for the fries instead of the whole meal since she didn't eat it, or at least substitute for another main. He said that they couldn't do that. However on the way out my wife asked a manager why we couldn't, and he said we actually could! So the waiter LIED. Another issue was when the check came, and I asked if they did discounts for veterans. The waiter said yes, but only for the veterans specific meal. My question to that was, well if I'm paying the whole bill isn't everything technically my meal? He responded "that's just how we do things". He also forgot to mention the up charges on certain sides for some of my families meals. I believe the waiter's name was Brandon. read more
