I love the location at Pensacola and am a regular customer and occasionally stop by the gulf shores location as well. This was my first time at the Destin location and it was not good. I got my usual the ford catfish basket and the fish tasted off. Extremely fishy like it was old. The server was very nice and polite and said he'd remake it and the next batch wasn't much better. I am a little upset because I love shrimp basket but I'm hoping this was just a bad day. Definitely have better spots to eat in Destin. read more

Finding food during shoulder season can sometimes present problems. In this case, the Shrimp Basket resolved our meal query. Our server, Bri, was a delight. She gave us sufficient time to make our choice, answered our questions about the menu choices, gave refills and was a terrific server, an asset to the company. I ordered the shrimp and grits and SO had the seafood platter. For those who like Coke Zero, it is available. S&G is accompanied by what they call a BBQ mayo. I wasn't sure about this so it was brought out on the side. While I was a bit skeptical, it really did add a bit of spice and extra flavor. It did not resemble anything like a BBQ sauce or condiment. SOs platter was so large he had problems finishing his meal. Yes, a nice place to enjoy lunch. Once people arrive in season, I can see their parking lot being quite full. You can eat on the patio or dine in. I found staff to be more than pleasant. Food was good and more than sufficient. Being in town for a short time we may get back for another meal. Wow we really like this place! Ate here 2 days in a row. Reason: the food is fresh, quick and reasonably priced. You can tell that they make things in house not just heating up frozen things. We got several items such as the boil, mani fish dip, catfish basket, boom boom shrimp tacos, and fried oysters. We also tried the local beer and the house margs! Was not a fan! When you walk in, it's more casual dining but with a waiter. Feels like our food would have been more accurate and maybe quicker to come out if we just ordered at the counter. We came in around 8pm and were seated in a pretty tight spot around lots of other people and about 10 mins later a waiter came and got our drink orders and at the same time we placed an order for the firecracker fries. After we waited around 45 mins we just assumed they weren't going to bring them so we just waited for our main entrees. But to our surprise our fries came out. 45 minutes later!! I will say, they were good, but definitely not worth the wait or frustration. About 15 mins later our orders came out. We ordered the gumbo and it was good but luke warm. We ordered the oysters and they were good. We also got the stuffed crab and it was not good. I have never seen big chunks of red bell pepper in stuffed crab but here we are. I also had substituted the coleslaw for okra but never got them. It wasn't worth the hassle or time to wait for our waiter to come back and to have them make me some. We saw our server maybe 3 times come to our table so getting his attention was not easy. After a long day on the beach and in the sun the last thing you want is mediocre food and very slow service. Never a reassurance that our food was coming out soon. This will definitely be our last time here sadly since when we come to Destin we love finding new places to come back to. read more

We visited the destin location on 5-19-26. We were in the restaurant for over 2 1/2 hours. The waitress took our order and then we didnt see her again for over an hour. I had to ask another waitress to check on our food. We had 6 people in our party but only half of our orders come out together. The others in our party had to wait another 15 minutes for their food. My husband ordered the Captains platter, which was missing the osters, hushpuppies, the corn fritter, and the coleslaw. Most of the other orders were missing items or wrong as well. The appetizers were served with the meal, not before. I spoke to the manager and she told me that there was nothing she could do. It wasn't until I said I was going to leave a bad review that she apologized and she could give me a 20% discount. Which we had to wait another 15 minutes. I had seen this place on a previous trip and really wanted to go. I thought it was like seafood fast food. Spoiler, it is not. It is a sit down restaurant though it is casual. This was my least favorite place we ate on our Destin trip. The menu was okay and we had plenty of options. We were starving upon arrival so immediately ordered the seafood queso. It was okay. Not amazing. Barely any seafood in it. Daughter and I shared the boil for 2. I asked if it was spicy and the server said no. I didn't realize that this meant they wouldn't season it at all. No old bay, no nothing. Disappointing. There is a lot of food here though. We both ate it AND shared it with the table and still had leftovers to take home. It was okay but for the money I'd like it to have flavor. We ordered hush puppies and those were really good. I'd recommend. Hubby had a few drinks here and thought they were good not great. Our waitress was truly wonderful. Her and has a "Q" in it- I'm having a hard time remembering... maybe Mystique? She made great menu recommendations, checked in often, and genuinely tried to make our experience enjoyable. I typically drink water so fast. She continued to refill immediately, multiple times, and even asked if I'd like for her to leave a pitcher of water. Of course I did. But I can not tell you how many restaurants I have been to, that I end up waiting so long for more water. Or my husband gives me his water. Or my husband ends up going to the bar to refill my water. Stopped by tonight for a take out order for the hubby. While I had leftovers from last night's dinner that would be sufficient, the call of the Gumbo was enticing. Nothing better than a good bowl of gumbo. Sadly, the Shrimp Basket's version is not good. A thin, runny broth. One tiny piece of sausage. No other discernable pieces of ingredients. Just bland, runny sauce. My homemade chicken soup has more body. And this northern grown home cook can (and has) produced gumbo that would put tonight's version to shame. OTOH, hubby says that the shrimp was good. Nothing special, but far better than my gumbo. This is our only trip to Destin because there are so many places we have yet to explore, so the management can skip the canned reply about trying to reel us in. read more

I was looking for somewhere quick to have lunch and not many options were available. I had originally been looking at another place but ended up changing my mind last minute. I was driving down the street and happened to spot this place so I thought I'd give it a try. Upon entering, we were seated fairly quickly. We had opted to sit outside as the inside was cold but the tables outside were dirty and so we moved back in. The restaurant was pretty dead when we arrived (around 11AM). The inside wasn't bad but the floors were dirty. Thankfully the table was decently clean. I signed up for their rewards program after seeing an ad on the door when we entered and got a free coconut shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was fried golden and very good. We also ordered some kind of cajun pasta as well as a fried seafood platter. The cajun pasta was surprisingly good and I would definitely come back again for this dish. The fried platter was also good but I will say that some of the pieces were more breading than meat. However, for the price it was very reasonable. It's a tradition for my husband and I to visit a Shrimp Basket location each time we visit the gulf coast. This was our first time at the Destin location and we were pleased. After just getting into town, we needed a quick bite to eat and saw this restaurant that said oyster Tuesday 85 cents each. We love oysters so this was the place. There was ample parking in the lot and because it was in the afternoon the place wasn't crowded. The hostess was very friendly and immediately seated us. Our server came over and we ordered cocktails. A glass of wine was around $4.50 and this wasn't a happy happy hour price. We also ordered some oysters as our appetizer. The oysters were okay but who can complain for 85 cents a piece. I had a broiled shrimp platter and my husband a fried shrimp basket. The portions were very large. I had a minimum of two dozen shrimp and my husband about the same on his meal. My shrimp were nicely seasoned. The potatoes could have used a little more love. My husband's meal was very good crunchy and well seasoned. Overall, the shrimp for both meals was fresh, nice size and plentiful. This restaurant seemed like a locals spot because patrons knew one another and were extremely friendly offering us a lot of good conversation. Our server was attentive and quite pleasant. The restaurant was clean but decor was minimal. We were awed by the bill...$45! With all the food and drink we had this was definitely a steal! Plus we had leftovers to take with us. So, first time trying this place and I tried the seafood basket and my family tried the half shrimp basket. It was alright except for the misleading facts about the shrimp coleslaw which has no shrimp in it at all and the 1 teeny tiny nickel sized corn nugget, which was explained to me as a garnish. However, I did enjoy the shrimp and the fish along with the stuffed crab. I spoke to manager Alyssa M. about why the coleslaw had no shrimp and her answer was, " it's a hit or miss".She also stated that it is prepared in one big batch and some cups get it and some don't‍. When I asked her then why is it charged at $25, if we are not getting what the menu says. Her reply was, "well the coleslaw does not help make up the price of the seafood basket". I then asked well what portion of the shrimp is in the coleslaw, the juice from the shrimp? She responded by making a dime size shape using her index finger and thumb to show how big the pieces should be in the shrimp coleslaw. I explained to her me nor my family member found any of that in our "shrimp coleslaw" and I think the meals should be discounted based on that and the nickel sized 1 corn nugget we received. She continued to make excuses and further explain that the corn nugget is only a garnish. I believe this is ridiculous, false advisement and unfortunate to those paying for what they see as stated in the menu. Unfortunately, my family nor I will be returning to this establishment but our waiter CJ and his coworker Alex are exceptionally nice and professional people . Note to the owners; the coleslaw was not great at all and I was still going to pay for my meal without any complaints until I over heard one of the waiters tell another customer about the shrimp coleslaw. I asked to re-read the menu because apparently I missed the part about the "shrimp coleslaw". I honestly just thought I was supposed to be served this basic coleslaw that only contained cabbage.
